Description
Lizard tribes from the Wetwood Swamp have been raiding trade caravans between Ormath, Assam, and Nathlekh. Ormath blames Surkh. Surkh claims innocence. Lheshayl is trying not to get involved. Nathlekh has been helping Assam defend against the raids. Assam wants someone to get to the bottom of it all. Can you find out what is behind the raids? Will you prevent war between Ormath and Surkh or choose to profit from it instead? READ THE README FILE! It has hints and tips to help you enjoy the game, not useless technical jargon. It also has a walk through, in case you get stuck. Click on the picture above to get a map. The setting and NPCs are faithful to the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide which is where I got the idea for the mod.

mod is broken: the first conversation with tempest in the first town is also the last one - I report him about the quest which I din not even start. Sadly it was the main quest. Also too big areas makes the mod boring.

-.25: Out of context scripting - you can talk to the Lizard Chief even without the notes from the druid.

-.25 - I think Mara should show herself even with a good character for a showdown. A level 40 powergamed character should be able to defeat her.

-.25 Outdated scripting needs updating.

Unplayable due to bugs (conversations errors).

I agree with Riona and Astero.

I tried it without looking at the hints and got a bizarre dialogue about a NPC's wife I had never met. I started the game over, spoke to all the people in the inn and went to speak to Honlinar Tempest who gave the module completion conversation (or something similar).

Posted by Astero at 2007-08-07 01:26:17
I'm sorry I can't help any further. I don't know what could possibly trigger this. I"ll try to play the module again and see if the same thing happens.

Posted by Astero at 2007-06-29 05:29:42
I've played for about 15 minutes and stopped. When I first arrived at the inn and learned about the raids and Honlinar Tempest I exited and went to visit him in the court house. But upon talking to him I said everything there was to be said about the raids and who was behind all of this. I reloaded, same thing happened. Of course, that spoiled the fun. I don't know if the same thing happened to anyone else. I decided to play a little more. I exited the town, saw the caravan, defeated the lizards and told everyone to go back to Assam. I talked to Honlinar and he updated my quest, telling me to travel to Lheshay to meet with the Chief but I decided there was no meaning to continue playing. After all, I already knew what was going to happen. So, I can't vote. On a side note, Assam could have been smaller. It was way too empty.

Very buggy quest content and many scripts were far too awkward. (IE: Skipping ahead in quest content early by accident)

Hello,

Apology accepted (and I appreciate it).

As for my module recommendations, I defintely recommend the Saleron's Gambit series, The Prophet series, Cormyrean Nights, Dragon's Edge, Crimson Tides of Tethyr, Mountain of Mirrors...those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. :) I could think of more, given time. I've played a lot of HoF modules myself, and I certainly recommend the overlooked module list (yes, I've seen it, and it's a valuable reference).

Take care,

Riona

Somehow plaed my comment in voting area. Changed score as well. Could you please reply back especially on recommended mods.

I was just thinking that I have actually voted on a mod and gave it a 4. Can't remember exact mod but it was prob the biggest based on haks. This may be me contradicting myself but what I could remember was thta there was no plot, no storyline, no idea about what level to start off with and npcs/monsters would turn from neutral to hostile with no reason whatsoever. In hindsight I should not have voted as that was a long time ago and I was still beginning but should have made comments and waited for the mod to be playtested and possibly for it to be finished.

As now I have downloaded 150mods and prob played 120-140 of these. Inc most of HOF (single player)

Just for your ref Guild War, Bloodright-Blood Royal?, Salerons Gambit 1to4, Darrow's maiden voyage, The Prophet, Rogues of Quinn are prob my all time faves. Oh yeah Tortured Hearts and A Tangled Web, Cormyrean Nights, Blackguard I to III. Check out overlooked files.

Cheers

OK point taken. My remarks are not meant to be rude or to insult anybody. Prob based on being a little bit angry over somebody casting a vote of 4 on any mod.

Out of curiosity I am wondering what mods you have played and or would recommend.

However you are right on some of your comments hopefully I have helped other players who wish to play this with my comments.

And by the way...

I did talk to everybody. I did just about every possible quest. You are speaking as if I totally missed a big chunk of the game, but that is certainly not the case. I played with an open-mind, and I kept on hoping it would get better, but it did not.

This module is bug-ridden (as you admit) and overall not well done. The actual story is OK but not a stand-out. Why play this module when there are many, MANY better ones out there? I've played many modules so far, so I think I know what I am talking about.

Take care,

Riona

I don't care whether you think it is terrible or not. I voted honestly. I don't usually give a module that low of a score, but I didn't give it a 4 just on a whim. The review I wrote for this module was the longest I've ever written. My vote will not be changed.

Feel free to ignore me, but there is no more reason to take in to consideration a vote of 10 (with far less detailed comments) than there is to "believe" my own vote. And frankly, it's bad form to exhort people to "ignore" a vote and review. That's rude, and I have never done that to anyone else's vote.

Having seen the most recent vote and stats. I have to make a comment due to my vote and suggesting that this mod is VG, hence inc in "overlooked mods etc"

So I went through it again, this time with a sorceror? (I'm afraid I got the bug from playing TOM 1 +2)

Yes there are some problems with dialogue when talking to NPCs BUT you must follow the journal entry. Also it is well worth saving and reloading and then figuring out what to do.

Minor spoiler when you go to Lizard's camp just before Chedarspoke and meet up with the chieftain, Tiamora and Roosad. Do not let Roosad leave the tent continue clicking on him until you then have the chance to speak with the chieftain and with Tiamora. Allow her to leave, follow and continue when she reaches the tent.

There are more role playing possibilities in this game than most. Ormath is a little town with a number of options.

Most of the time you will not receive gold or xp for completing a quest. Sometimes you do (Blackmail/Partnership a clue). However this is compensated with xp for killing monsters etc. I reckon xp is 50-100% more than normal.

Wherever you go talk to everybody. OK you will not receive any help but that's the idea of role play. You do not have an arrow pointing at the right NPC.

The storyline is VG. There are raids, the lizardmen are responsible but why?

I have now gone down as evil and good characters both reached level 10 and it gives you numerous option. I have come to help, rob you, kill you etc. Started 4th lvl with each, first character was a 2/2 rgr/rg

Combat is predominantly non quest related and will give you the xp you require. Even so they are quite tough. As mentioned thaere is a rogue henchman. Also a paladin (more a ftr though). When you reach Ormath, just talk to everybody (there are doors marked? etc obviously meant for the player to investigate). Anyway you will be sent to collect some Krenshar cubs. You meet the paladin (you can fight him if you are evil but he is tough, as you will prob be 5th lvl. If you go with him to temple and you kill "x" you will prob gain a level. Talk to him again and he will become a henchperson.

As I have mentioned there is quite a bit of roleplay. If you don't ask you will not get.

So forget the 4 vote (I think that is terrible mind you, I will normally give an author a min of 7 just based on them doing all of this for free for us as players to enjoy)

Once again ignore the most recent comment/vote, be open minded a good frame of mind and play this one

Cheers

I was hoping this module would be a hidden gem, but once I actually played it I woke up. :( I *wish* it had been Hall of Fame material. See my review.

Take care,

This is without a doubt the most unsatisfying module I've played thus far...and I've played quite a lot. Yes, the story has the potential to be good, but the execution totally ruins it.

The scripting is, as some others have noted, egregiously buggy in some places, or just below average in others. Looking back, it is hard to tell which complaints I have have to do with bad scripting, and which have to do with bad game design. There are numerous side quests to complete, but I only recall two of them actually giving me any experience points, which is highly atypical. As a result, most of my exp points came from combat. Unfortunately, the module is also poorly paced--for the first few hours of the game I experienced very little combat, and played through side quests that not only gave no experience points, but also weren't very interesting or well done. I discover that a woman wants to have her husband murdered, tell her I will turn her over to the law, and...there is no actual option to turn her into the authorities. And that is only one quest out of many that feels incomplete. Throughout the module, the PC's dialogue is not only railroaded (which can be tolerated, if it's good), but also inconsistent. My PC was forced to speak lines ranging in tone from compassionate bleeding-heart to cynical, money-grubbing mercenary. I never felt like I could really get into character. That was sad for me, because I had been dying to try this character out. To add insult to injury, much of the writing is riddled with spelling mistakes.

After finishing up in the first couple towns or so, the PC finally has a chance to do some real fighting and cleaning out dungeons. The exp was welcome (you could argue that combat exp is more generous than it should be), but I also found that much of the combat had little to do with the main plot. If you are expecting this module to have you plowing through lizardmen, think again--most of the enemies in this game actually have little to do with the lizard raids and who is behind them. Not a huge deal, I guess, but it felt "off" to me, and the main plot just wasn't substantial enough to make up for it. Many maps in the game are vast and mostly empty, too, which is a big pet peeve of mine. I don't mind exploring, but how much fun can it be if there is nothing to explore? Why make such huge maps if you actually only need less than a quarter of the area?

Since I love the Forgotten Realms setting, I was really excited to play this module, and I am honestly very disappointed that this was such a letdown. Heck, even some of the Realmslore was way off. I give the builder credit for knowing about the Rotting War, but where did "Mara, lesser goddess of Death and Destruction" come from??? I've been a serious FR fan for about 6 years now, and as far as I know there was never any such goddess. I am positive that if this Mara existed, I would have heard or read about her by now. I realize some deities masquerade as other entities, but nothing of that sort was mentioned in the game.

Even the *denouement* was unsatisfying. I tried two different endings--one in which I assassinate the main villain, and one in which I headed back to Assam to inform Holinar of what was going on. In the former ending, I dryly recite what occured, and am unceremoniously handed 2000 exp and 2000 gp. Great. In the latter, Holinar takes me to the Lord of Ormath, and the ending there is...incredibly anti-climatic. And I didn't get any reward (!?).

So, in short, there are far, far better modules at there than this one, and you would be better off playing them. This one is badly scripted, feels dated, and just isn't well done. I am happy it is all over. Not recommended.

This is a brilliant mod. Another hidden gem. Started as a 2/2 ranger/rogue finished 4/3/3 r/r/assassin. Combats, storyline, dialoge, main quest sub quests all tops.

Had same problems as Cosmo excep no elf went hostile. One did offer his services as a henchman. But did not apear on screen as henchman, even though he'd follow me and fight by my side. One combat only.

Had a number of different endings prison, assassin soneth and reaching Lord Qwen. This is definitely HOF material if only these issues were sorted.

A well-crafted story, gameplay gets a bit linear towards the end, but multiple endings are very well done-- actual roleplaying!

Cool and well developed story. The first section of the mod is much more fully realized than the second, in terms of city complexity and depth. Very fun overall.

An unusual set of villains, I really dug it (tired of all the evil wizards or crazy clerics).
