This is the first module in the 'Legacy of Daggerdale' campaign which is a plot-driven story based around the Daggerdale area of the FR. Each module is designed to be a relatively short, self-contained 'episode' that string together over the entire series. The tale opens in the small village of White Chalk Hollow which lies about a day's ride west of Dagger Falls. A strange sickness is affecting the village's animals, something that is of grave concern to a village whose whole economy is based upon farming. As a citizen of the town, you are asked to investigate the illness. Takes characters from 1st to 2nd level. Please read the 'READ ME' for more details. Version 1.20 FINAL

I had fun. Usually a hack and slasher, but I really enjoyed this story mod. I like the actual searching instead of just the open every barrel/crate etc. in the usual fare.

I found this to be an interesting mod, in spite of my below average rating. Why 4,75 then? Unfortunately, you only just get started before you are done. But this is still a good starting point for a new character.

Dialogue is well-done, although I found a number of minor problems/peculiarities.

Dad "needs to speak with me" even after I had spoken to him.

A "completed" Jendra Miller quest was added to journal the moment I met her.

Bat quest was completed, but for some reason stayed in the non-completed section.

The Genar dialogue had a path with repetition that was probably not intended.

"Wow...walk way out here" even when going in the other direction is a bit silly...

Is it Dusty Road or Dusty Roads Inn? Depends on where you check.

The XP I got when informing the mayor about discoveries was enough to give me a level. I focused on levelling up and accidentally broke off the conversation. When I went back to speak with him I got the XP reward for a second time. Not sure if this is a general bug or a module-related one, though.

After levelling I lost my familiar. I intended to summon it and rest, but accidentally did it in the wrong order. Even though I had almost immediately broken off my rest when I realized I hadn't summoned the familiar first, I was told I couldn't rest for another 8 minutes.

Overall a reasonably starting module, that can just give you enough XP to reach level 2. Too bad there was only a semi-complete DD2 and nothing beyond that. I'd certainly have been interested in following my characters adventures in the Dalelands.

Worked very well with a fresh character (half-orc). This vintage module could be a showcase for those author trying to make a well balanced lvl 1 module. Here combats are kept to the minimum and the challenge is right (some monsters are weak, others are slow...). Thumbs up for that.

Completed everything within 2-3 hours. Almost died at one point due to AI making my character step on a known trap. Luckily my character slowly recovered (thanks to the TTRV system) eventually walking away with 1 HP.

For the rest I mostly agree with JuJu and Lariam.

On the other hand they are tons of good level 1 modules around and not much replay value with one. Also the campaign was never completed.

I agree with the above poster. I really felt like I was a part of the town. The story was intriguing but the module shows its age. Nevertheless, it's a fun way to spend some time.

From the very first entry, you really feel like you are a part of this town and grew up here. The dialogue is wonderful. The sidequests are fun. I really, REALLY wish the authors had finished the series.

I loved the low magic/low treasure feeling of the module. There is such a think as being more or less realistic within a fiction, and the authors managed to achieve some of the valuable realism here.

The module seems to be an excellent starting point for a character. The dialogue with the other inhabitants of the village in question nicely makes the player feel that his or her character has his or her home in this particular village.

There is a nice background story given in the readme. The situation in Daggerdale is there to be felt in the module. One thing that I haven't yet seen very well executed is done pretty well here: the folks in this village in Daggerdale really seem to be divided on the question of the Zhent invasion. All the sides to the debate get their voice heard (the Zhent rule is obviously very bad, but then it has brought some stability in the face of goblinoid attacks).

The story is appropriate for a first-level character, and I'm intrigued to see how the story unfolds in the sequel. I'm already disappointed and sad about the fact that there won't be a third (and the fourth, and...) module in the series. :(

The module seems quite dated, though. And the dialogues sometimes work in funny ways. This very nice module could have used some more polish. But I think there's no point in going to the details.

Thanks to the authors for making the module. I do recommend this module as a starting point for a character (although there is no real ending to the story here in the first episode, at least, at all)! Once again we've been shown that low magic Forgotten Realm works perfectly. :)

Cheers,

Lariam

Interesting mod. Most of the combat is not too difficult for lvl 1 PC. Although some combat may be hard, it could be done by planning carefully. The shortcoming are 1) lack of map pin and 2) some of the dialouge options (quest related) disappear forever it the PC doesn't choose it at the first time.

This module is exceptional. The creators have obviously paid considerable attention to details often ignored, examples of this being that my dwarvenb characters father was a dwarf, but my human characters father was a human. The areas are well designed, and the town is beleivably large, but not unnessecarily so.
The dialouge is somewhat limited, however. I played through initially as a dwarven character, and I found that I did not seem to receive and additional conversation options, either when talking to dwarves, or when someone was bad-mouthing the dwarves. In fact, I still had the option to agree with them. Whilst I can appreciate that module is geared to make the character feel a part of the town, this did seem somewhat lacking to me.
Also, I had the option to tell people I was looking on the behalf of Father Fryar before I had spoken with him. This did not seem intentional.
Nevertheless, I consider this an excellent use of the toolkit, to create a module that is well defined and interesting. Making an interesting game that involves little combat and is centered around low level characters is quite an acheivement as too many people seem to believe that a boring module can be made more interesting by upping the power levels.

This is the kind of module that really makes me enjoy being first level. I mean, there's a lot of 1st level mods out there, but this one really makes me feel like I'm a starting adventurer who is struggling to do good in his own little part of the world.

Great dialogue, and despite the lack of action, quite entertaining. THanks for the good time :)
