Description
You can't remember much of your childhood, although your parents said you had a terrible sickness as a child. One day, your family strangely vanished. Your life hasn't been easy so far--you've had to earn everything the hard way. You heard that the High Councilor of Ashabenford was looking for adventurers and was giving good rewards. You saw it as a chance to earn a living and some respect. At first glance, everything looked so simple. After traveling so long, you reached Ashabenford. However, in your first night, you were awakened by a nightmare. But the real nightmare was waiting for you when you awoke...
Highly enjoyable mod, great atmosphere, quite interesting quests as well.

This is an absolutely wonderful module... I know Capulcu hasn't been replying to the comments lately, could this mean that there's no sequel in sight? I hope that's not the case! Anyway, I'm stuck... I cannot find the white dragon egg. I've looked in the cave where the dead dragon and dead adventurers are, apart from picking up other plot-related items, no egg. I've also search around the northern part of the Beast forest, no such luck. I resorted to the walkthrough, which told me it was in the Northwest, so I'm assuming the author means the cave? Am I missing a secret door or something? Thanks for any help forthcoming.

Had to change this as I am about 9000xp short of next lvl, before I said 2000. VG mod with vg subquests and main quest for this mod. The real reason for you being here is explained in the end. VG storyline, history of area through books. Some roleplay but many challenging combats (so save regularly). Started as a 3/1 ftr/rg finished as a 4/3/3 ftr/rg/assassin. As with many mods the eqpt you receive or find is important and I guess this mod could be played by any class as magical items are available to everybody. Sorcerors/Wizards possibly bards will have a prob as there are no henchmen Deserves HOF status

Just noticed Baldecaran gave this a 10 ie the genius behind The Prophet and Honour Among thieves ENOUGH SAID.

Thoroughly enjoyed this mod. I startrd as a 3/1 ftr/rg and have just finished as a 4/3/3 ftr/rg/ass. Combats are very challenging but doable as it was mentioned to save a lot. But my charcter was amb/2wft so I used Kaga to and feyduster when I had the money and of course these with sneak death attck is quite nasty. As with many combats you do not attempt to charge in and take evrybody on ie the gem. Managed to pick off one or two at atime and as I was wearing the electrical robe and ? amulet (-5 bludge/pierc/slas). The lightning creatures did not affect me so much (this was pre kaga to and feyduster). If necessary you run and shoot until you've whittled down the NME. The trolls at 6th lvl were very tough and had to use 2 dire3 spiders to take out chief. But still managed to take on one troll at atime. The drow priestess was a tough cookie. I was expecting the whip to be much better due to the damage she was doing. Quite a bit of running around but in some areas once you had finished easy exits which was nice. I am just wondering as I did die once and respwaned. Do you have more insight into the major reason you are doing what you are doing? Actually I went back to a saved game. Always worry about the xp I lose will prevent me from reaching another level a bit quicker. Finally I have prob played most of the HOF games and so I can't beleive how I missed this one. Deserves HOF status Any news on Part 2? I constantly used high druids armour throughout and fought with two weapons so my overall ac was not good but the staff of defence with mage armour is a huge assist. As for the major reason behind the mod this does not come to fruition until the end but the mod is slightly non linear with a good story plot at the beginning. I didn't use the walkthrough just the 4 jobs available (cockatrice very lucky in a way, ran and shot then wondered where it was, luckilt it was attacking a pertrified creature so one sneak attck and bye bye, minor spoiler, the winter wolf was very tough though). You can then carry on with high councils quest or take a wander. That is how I found the bounty hunter, the caravan job was well done though something completely different) As a hint go and see the bounty hunter. Magical items given were good/rgr/druid orientated but I could still get away with using some. My UMD was 8 and so the spellcract armour +2 on UMD enabled me to use staff of defence (Nice touch with different armours). The armour from the 4 skins would be very good for a high dex character, possibly better if it was hide/studded or given an option what would you prefer? The malar beast was very easy as was that whole area due to at that time kaga to and feyduster. Also used high druids armour with wounding whispers (my character originally was S16/D16/CON12/INT14/WIS8/CHA8) and I now use configure package eg 1st lvl ftr power attck/cleave and wpn focus grt sword eg. Int very useful for skill points so all my ftrs will have dis traps, search and open lock nothing on parry)

This module could be perfect if it did not have two major flaws (well one depend on the other): It is called non linear but the problem is that after having played half or perhaps 2/3 of the module (hard to tell really since we don't know what is your level at the end) my character still does not know why he is there or what is the big picture (I have no clue either so metagaming won't help). It was not so much of a problem for an evil character who can just wander around and fight whatever hostiles he might find. Yet at this stage some combats are really over the top. * SPOILERS * The beast in the cave was one of them (due to high regeneration) had to summon a dire spider to survive the encounter. Had some problems with the drows soldiers (tough but not impossible to beat). The really nasties ones are the dominated soldiers as you have to fight a bunch of them together when you meet the NPC with the gem. My character is level six and I think I have visited everything already (except the doors that you cannot open no matter what). If this area was designed for level 7-9 then fair enough but in that case, what are the related quests that would allow my character to reach the right level. If not then it is a matter of unbalanced uncounters. Puzzled.

Dwayne - I see I may have written a bit misleadingly earlier. I should add, perhaps, that the story does, indeed, suck the character in, and is not complete as it stands. I, for one, have not continued with this character elsewhere. Either he'll continue his adventures in the sequel, or he won't do that at all. Nevertheless, the mod is really great! And if you don't care very much about continuing the story, it is certainly worth giving a go. _________________________ Forgotten Realms Weave
