Description
You have spent most of your life within the walls of Candlekeep, a library fortress on the Sword Coast. You know little of your true parents, but have been told that they are both dead. Instead you were raised by Gorion, a kind old mage who was as good a father as anyone could wish for. Life's quiet for about 20 years, until one day when Gorion suddenly tells you to prepare for a journey, but refuses to say where you are going and why. You stand outside the Candlekeep Inn with what money Gorion could spare, about to equip yourself for the travel. And you had better pick your gear carefully - all hell is about to break loose... This is a remake of Bioware's excellent RPG Baldur's Gate. So far it's only the prologue, but if there's enough interest I might do the rest too. I have taken the basic storyline from Baldur's Gate, as well as characters, subquests, portraits, etc, but dialogues are heavily edited. See ReadMe for more info.

I thought this mod was quite fun! I really liked the end cutscene. I felt it was done very well.

"I'll try to upload it ASAP"

hm... ;-)

I did a major overhaul of this mod, rebuilt some areas (made them smaller, since there's been some complaints about them being too big, and used another tileset), fixed the store prices and a few other little things. However, the end cutscene suddenly won't work anymore, so I'll have to try and fix that somehow before uploading the new version. I _hate_ cutscenes. =P Anyway, I'll try to upload it ASAP and then we'll see if I can get some serious work done on Chapter 1.

Don't you dare giving up this project, Tiggs!! And if you need any help you know you can ask ;)...

Posted by Tyrcian ( 80.45.xxx.xxx ) at 2005-01-23 03:14:00
In your mod you need to adjust the prices in shops, everything is too expensive! it would be good to either lower the price or remove the objects that characters will not be able to afford

Posted by Tiggs Without Her Password ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2005-01-20 03:28:00
Heh, thanks for those encouraging words. =) Work on the mod has been down for a while - I've been home for Christmas and generally been lazy. But don't consider the project dead just yet. Some help wouldn't hurt, but I still want to make as much as possible of it on my own (ambitious, I know =P). My plan for now is to make and release one chapter at the time, and then update the mod when the next chapter is done, so in the end (around year 2010) there'll be one huge BG mod. But like I said, we'll see what happens. Don't give up hope completely, though - I haven't. ;)

A little tip... GET SOME STAFF ON THIS! NOW!!! this would be one hell of a mod, especially if you incorporated everything from bg into it and then added your own stuff. When I say everything from bg, I mean all the sound files, the music, the items, the dialog the lot:D would be soooooo coool

Minor update. I've fixed the rat-killing quest, so now it should acknowledge that the rats are dead even if they've been killed by a summoned creature (I hope). Also, the treasures have been toned down. Thanks to draco_knight for bringing this to my attention.

Excellent reproduction.
But some tiny bugs, evrything is perfect.
Here some problem i saw on this module :
-Withrope's Inn is too Big.
-The rat quest has a problem if one of the rats is killed by a summoned monster
-The chests can contain too powerfull items (invocation wands, moderate cure potion...)
-The guards and the nobles don't react when stealing in their chests.
-What about adding Baldur's Gate's real sounds and music ?
-What are elle those buildings i never saw in Baldur's Gate's Candlekeep ?
I think that's all. Still quite a good game though it's short for now !

Hey Tiggs,

I would encourage you to keep going, what I have seen so far looks great. My offer to help the person working on Phoenix's mod is only as a tester. My own version of this is a long way from finished and I do not plan to release it till it is. I think you will have a fairly clear run on this. You can always add to the original game as well, as you already have with your conversations, giving it a unique touch.

Vance - not sure if you're referring to me or to Phoenix, but if it's me, thanks, but I'll politely decline your offer. If I will even continue working on the rest of BG, I want to do it my own way (and area constructing happens to be one of my favorite things to do). Right now, though, I'm not even sure if I want to do the rest, seeing as there are at least two others working on the same thing and will probably be able to do a better work than me. So, we'll see. =)

Posted by Vance ( 68.59.xxx.xxx ) at 2004-08-27 02:30:00
why don't you ask for volunteers to make the areas you need. i'll make one.....just tell me which one.

Phoenix,

I think saying your scripts are a mess is being harsh on yourself. They are not and have some good ideas in them. As you said it was incomplete so no one can complain about this. If I took up your mod for completion I would probably remove all the scripts and redo them, which in itself is a big task, but not impossible. I have said to the person who is interested in completing your module that I would help him.

Ok sorry misunderstood you. Having looked at the scripts properly I can see what you mean now.

I don't mean to say hcr itself is flawed, just that the scripts Phoenix adapted to his needs are at least look pretty fishy and flawed to me.

Posted by Faendalimas at 2004-08-08 18:29:00    Voted 7.25 on 08/11/04
This is an excellent start to a very large project. Having done some of this myself and a lot of game modding I realise just how big a task this will be.

I congratulate you on your approach to the conversations, the Infinity Engine (BG1 version) had limitations that the Aurora Engine does not so it makes sense to take advantage of that.

I have not used HCR and I see someone mentions it is flawed, I do not know, but my understanding is it is about creating Hard Core D&D rulesets, I would agree to avoid it then.

Watch your area sizes, they are too big, need to cut them back a bit. Probably my only real criticism.

Cheers, Faen

Hm, I wouldn't touch Phoenix mod - it might take ages to correct the flawed hcr scripts :-/

I would definately say to finish this, phoenix put up an incomplete one, maybe you could use it, and save some time????the choices you make today, you will sleep with tonight and then deel with consquences tommorow.

Posted by Squire ( 82.36.xxx.xxx ) at 2004-07-31 07:32:00
I think I prefer yours...the conversations are much more interesting. The original dialogue, which Phoenix has decided to use, feels dry in comparison.

btw I'd just found out that it was unzipping your module to a sub-folder so I was still running the first version before you updated it, which is why I couldn't see the changes.

Posted by Mystoffelees at 2004-07-31 07:04:00
Hey, Tiggs.. ..the person who just released the other BG module says it's unfinished, and would someone please finish it..? (See his mod description..)

..I think you did a very good job on this one overall.. the only thing I found not to my liking was that the building interiors seem ed a bit oversized..they could do with being MUCH smaller.

..Otherwise, I think this is an excellent start, IMO. Gave me the feel of BG all over agin.

Posted by Tiggs at 2004-07-31 04:12:00
I separated the hak and the mod into two separate downloads and it took a while for the Vault to upload the hak, but now everything's in place, so you can go nuts playing this little mod over and over again. Apparently someone else has made a BG mod, so I'm not sure if I'll bother completing mine. Depends on how good the other one is, I suppose. Anyways, my little prologue is up for anyone to download and enjoy.

Squire - yep, pretty sure. Could be that the Vault hasn't updated yet or something. Or it could be me, obviously, but I'm fairly certain it's the right version I uploaded.

The assassins just have perfectly common daggers. In the original BG they're fighters, but it might be a good idea to turn them into rogues here. I'll wait for a few more opinions on that.

Glad you like the Fuller dialogue - I'm quite satisfied with the other option to solve the quest myself if I'm allowed to say so. =)

As for the six party members - that's one of my huge grievances. I have seen the Dragonlance mod, and I think I've seen other mods having more henchmen too (obviously I can't recall which =P) so I'll do some research and see what I can do about it. I'll leave that for later however - for now I'm writing dialogues and building areas.

The Bogeyman - You might be right - but I'm not a man. ;) I'm not pretending to believe that I'll be able to finish this on my own, but I'll work on it for as long as I'm enjoying it and for as long as I'm able to, and we'll see what'll become of it. As for help - no thanks. I'm an independent one, and as I've mentioned further down I'm not nice enough to work with others (I get mad at people if they don't think my ideas are the best and so on =P).

Psycho_Drake_AD - At least in BGII it's possible to force locks with your fist or weapon - honestly I'm not sure if it's the same in BGI. But in any case I don't think it's worth making all chests and doors unbashable. It actually makes more sense to be able to smash a chest open, so I'll leave all doors and chests bashable (unless they're plot, of course).

Thanks for the comments again - keep 'em coming. =)
