The Kingdom of Arboril once was a peaceful and beautiful place. 100 years ago, King Edgar the Wise ruled the land and was loved by the people for bringing peace, prosperity and freedom to the land. But that all changed when King lost both his children, leaving the Throne of Arboril without a heir. Full of grief, the King laid the power into the hands of his advisor, the young Lord Gaeldorn. But, full of lust for power, Lord Gaeldorn's first and only intention wasn't to do good for his people. Since after King Edgar died, Lord Gaeldorn ruled the lands with an iron fist. The people's rights were taken away, replaced by a system of oppressive laws getting harsher each day. The more dissatisfied the citizens became with their new rulers, the more oppressive Gaeldorn's laws became. Decades later, it's a day like any other when you start to go shopping on Arboril City's Grand Plaza market. It is a day which will become the last normal day in your life...
I cannot get the module to work. I noticed in an earlier post something about "Lisa's Hakpak" and checking in the "log file". Where is this hakpak? How do I access this log file to figure out what haks I"m missing? I'ved dl'd and installed everything twice that is included on the Lord of Darkness 1-4 pages, but still get the message of a missing hak pak.

A fun, well-designed hack & slash module that kept me challenged and immersed. The opening - a prison break - was interesting and well done, and it set the tone well for the rest of the module. Although the plot is simple, the story itself hints at much bigger things going on, and so it kept me interested. Alayna, with her mysterious past, your ability to choose her class, and your ability to affect how she feels about you, is one of the more interesting henchmen I can remember. All of this together created a great sense of immersion, and put this a notch above the average H&S module. As for the combat itself, it's nicely varied, with a variety of opponents, settings, and tactics. That, and the very limited resources available, made the combats challenging but well-balanced. That said, playing a spellcaster or non-combat oriented character might push it over into frustrating. I did have a few minor quibbles: the opening cutscene is a bit too long, you lose all your items when you're thrown into prison, but not your gold, and it seems odd to me that the prison storage area would be infested so many giant spiders and dire rats, since it becomes apparent that people do travel through there. Similarly, there were a few places where the author ignored "dungeon ecology" and had groups of monsters that realistically would have killed each other living side by side. Also, the author mentions how much he detests resting restrictions, but I think putting them in a few areas - like the Arborin military base - would have actually improved the module, both in terms of making it more realistic and more challenging. Finally, although I can cut the author some slack for not being a native English speaker, the module would have been greatly improved if he had asked a native English speaker to edit the dialogue.

Excellent game.... Loved the combination of story and fighting.... I never felt too overwhelmed with either, which I think is the perfect balance for any great module... On to part 2....

An excellent adventure in four parts, and I hope more follow! The story is good, character and relationship development is good. I loved it! My wife accused me of game addiction while I played this! _________________________ Myth: we have to save the earth. Frankly, the earth doesn't need to be saved. Nature doesn't give a hoot if human beings are here or not. The planet has survived cataclysmic and catastrophic changes for millions upon millions of years. Over that time, it is widely believed, 99 percent of all species have come and gone while the planet has remained. Saving the environment is really about saving our environment - making it safe for ourselves, our children, and the world as we know it. If more people saw the issue as one of saving themselves, we would probably see increased motivation and commitment to actually do so. - Robert M. Lilienfeld, management consultant and William L. the problem is also evident with LOD 2-4

weremensh, got the same problem...my theory is that the module has not been updated to CEP2. if i'm not mistaken, the module is set for CEP 1.5

A possible answer to my own question: has this module been tested with CEP 2?

The module looks interesting; but it won't load. It seems to be missing a 'custom talk table'; which didn't magically appear when I reinstalled both module and hakpack. Any ideas?

Excellent for the intended public and purpose. A stylish hack n slash adventure that reminds me of old console action adventures like Terranigma, Final fantasy adventure and the likes. The areas show the designer's skill with the toolset: Refreshing, never dull, really good pace between exploring, action and advancing the story. The plot is solid, but manages to get one involved. Combat is never dull, but mage loot is a bit scarce. Oh well, nothing a true spellslinger cannot contend with :) The whole series is very good, and this starting module should not be missed by any who enjoys a linear, action driven story with memorable characters. Middle european modules kick ass!
