Description
It is less than a year until the War of the Ring. The Stewards rule the kingdom of Gondor from their fortress city of Minas Tirith. It is their charge to safeguard all that they can until the return of the king, but that charge is proving more difficult with each passing day. From the Dark Lands of the East encroach the armies of Sauron, Enemy of all Free Peoples of Middle-Earth. In recent months they have drawn heavily from Gondor, stealing the forests of Ithilien and putting to the lance all of the Stewards old allies. The people look past their Steward now to his sons: Boromir and Faramir, Captains of Gondor; the former, a heroic and brazen soldier; the latter a reluctant and thoughtful young lordling. It will fall to these two brothers to stave off the Enemys invasion, salvage what they can, and, in time, be shuffled off the field to make room for the greater players of Middle-Earth -and their greater games.

Outstanding visuals and sounds but the rest is terrible.
Could the brothers be any weaker than that? They get easily killed the first day they go out to rescue a guy. Rescue? Unlikely due to the number of dogs hunting in the area (and we have lousy weapons and armors) and rising water level (so the guy can't float if not swim?) and you need the rope before that. Next you get to few a few orcs, that should be easy but wait we still have 2 HP or so since there is no way to rest before taking the boat. The catapult is cool but we don't need that to dispatch a few orcs do we? OK may be I got it all wrong but in that case hints and clues should be provided. Just my 2 cents.
Was this ever tested?
3-4: It is clear the author tried to make something interesting, but still fell short. With more work it might be worth the download.

Awesome module, especially recommended for Middle-Earth purists (like me).

okay... you started this module years ago and I understand that... and I know the comments are old... and I realize that this module is not the most popular module. I haven't played it yet really but I was surfing on the vault and I looked through the popular ones. I thought to myself "none of these are good enough" so being a fan of Lord of the Rings, I decided I would make my own. Ah the tragedy. I couldn't do it. I got as far as half of the Shire and gave up. Didn't have the patience. So I came back on here and searched for a Lord of the Rings Module. And I found yours. I read through the reviews and after I read them all (half of them being hilarious) I decided I would take the time to download it. So even though you probably won't get this, I want to say thank you for making this LotR module and keeping my horrible skills of module making at rest. Thanks.
BTW: About the internet. Yeah they are all right. 56k does in fact suck. The ratio between 56k and dsl or high speed has changed since these arguments came up as there are alot more high speed and DSL owners out there now. But still inevitably, people are using 56k because they don't have the service and/or can't really afford High Speed.

Lord of the Rings: Sons of the Steward v1.06 FINAL
can this mod be mad to hold more than one person,
I would love to see this mod hold 30 people and lvl's up
to 40.
I would pay to have this mod to pay with more people

Nearly perfect, couldn't stop playing it, to bad its over that quick. Mapping is excellent, writing is top and visuals are unbelievable. One of the best!

Hadn't checked back in awhile, but thank you guys for the posts.
And given the module's point is largely story, drama, and ambiance, I'm unlikely to poke around too much to update henchmen code, as it is functional if not practical.
Thanks again,
Archaic

"4. Not sure if this can easily be fixed, but whenever I have multiple henchmen, I can only interact with the first one. I worked around that, but it involved considerable dropping and rejoining from the party (or fellowship). "
uh, all you have to do is rt-click on an associate, then click on the "talk" option to get the same dialogues.
However, at some point the author might want to update the 69meh69 henchman script in the mod; the new one fixes that issue and many others.

not bad; a lot of fun strategic battles, decent storyline, well written.

ack! major bug:
- i tied up my pack-pony to graze as soon as i entered the deep pelenor.
- killed all the wargs and saved the lost guard.
now everybody (including the pony) is hostile to me!
here's what i think is going on:
I attacked the wargs as soon as i could see them (they weren't hostile yet).
this must have set all factions hostile.
if what i suspect is true, then the author needs to amend his factions to exclude wargs (and most likely all other enemy factions) from affection faction relationships among the other factions (especially those who are supposed to be your allies!)

does faramir gain levels or no? he seems stuck at level 2 (i am assuming this is intentional, but could be wrong).

Just thought I'd paste my feedback from the stats view...heh, it certainly helped that I'd just watched Fellowship again before I started playing this - put me in a very Boromirish mood!

Archaic, I thought it was a top quality module. The atmosphere, the dialogue, the portrayal of the major characters; all were excellent, and I loved the references to the Lord of the Rings appendices. It was very easy to imagine this tale having occurred in the course of Tolkien's stories of Middle Earth. A couple of problems that I did have with the module (none related to the narrative):
SPOILERS
1. The main bug I encountered was in the battle with the orcs across the Anduin, where the player has to deploy his troops. I saved the game just after talking to Mithrandir and when the orc column was approaching. I sounded the horn and began the battle, but since it was going badly I loaded the game. This time, I waited for the column to progress a little further, but then try as I might to sound the attack, I would receive that message about using the horn frivolously (I remained on the hill while doing so). Reloading multiple times didn't help, until I loaded from an earlier saved game, just before I'd deployed my troops. After that the horn worked normally.
2. In the same battle, my henchmen would sometimes start fighting with Mithrandir and the other guards. Not sure why that happens; perhaps the wizard did AOE damage to them? (though I was playing on normal difficulty).
3. Boromir seems to make the comment about his warg hunter being missing every time he passes through the gate.
4. Not sure if this can easily be fixed, but whenever I have multiple henchmen, I can only interact with the first one. I worked around that, but it involved considerable dropping and rejoining from the party (or fellowship).
These issues aside, it was a great module! I hope you make more LotR tales in the same vein in the future...perhaps one dealing with Dale, the Lonely Mountain and those lands (with a guest appearance by Beorn?) after the events of The Hobbit and before the battle related in the LotR appendices.
Cheers!

While I think "Cable Modem Club" is an arrogant, unintelligent, narrow minded idiot who knows nothing about how much of the continental US is covered by High Speed Internet, as a 56k user who can't get access, I have no problems downloading a 100, 200 or 300 meg hak file.
It's called: Leave your computer on overnight and use GetRight so the download gets to you in one piece if you have to resume.
Having said that, this module is a brilliant piece of art, the dialogue writing is near that of Tolkien's himself.
It was a blast to play as Boromir in Tolkien's Middle Earth, brought to us accurately and as a labour of love by Archaic.
I wish you would do The Hobbit :)

Bloo'y 'ell! The haks are large! But, large means good. *grins*
Hehe, pretty dumb comment back there. You have EXCELLENT Module making talent. I played both Son of the Steward and the Dunedain, and I must say, that the Dunedain, though good, is
(no offense) FAR from Son of the Steward. It is, by far, the BEST module that I have played in The Neverwinter Vault. Truly a spectacular masterpiece.
Especially the ambush scene, I had a chance to demonstrate tactics. ;D

I loved your mod. The music and the atmosphere was brilliant! I look forward to the next of your works!
O, and btw, there's this music bmu called mus_bat_reqlong. I was wondering do you know what the actual piece is called because it seriously is vexing me.

I'm enjoying your mod, especially its novel approach. However, I really HATE the long grass environments, especially in the dark. And the areas in the mod are very dark, overall.
I had a nasty glitch just now when fighting the Watcher in the bogs. Its tentacles grabbed me, and I got stuck in Pause mode. Had to bail out.
Otherwise, good job overall.

Well it looks like you pulled it off. I must say I had my doubts after the first mod. Excellent mod. Better than the first by far.
Now I do not know how accurate it is even though I've read this trilogy 3 times in my life and the Silmarillion as well (once). That includes the rather extensive appendices in the back. But after playing this one has the feel that they have filled in a few blanks in the story.
Look forward to more.
