Description
This is part 4 of The Light Reborn (TLR) series, but is playable stand alone. A shadow has fallen across the world of Harthe. The arrival of a man, named Samuel, claiming to be a Veranite - the lost race of kings blessed by the Creator of Harthe with divine power - causes a stir in the country of Anvid. Could he really be a Veranite? Does he serve the Light, or is he a deceiver? Samuel gathers heroes across the land to do the will of the Virtues - the spirits of good that he claims to talk to. You are one such hero. But the power of the Dark does not stand still. On your way to Anvid city to hunt down a Servant of Solanor named Tarnn Samuel has some heroes take a detour. The Virtues (Spirits of the Light) have contacted Samuel and say that Solanor is planning an attack near the border of Seradez. But what form will this attack take? Does Seradez, Anvid's old enemy, have anything to do with it? Could Samuel's suspicion that King Kalyl of Seradez is a Servant of Solanor be true?

2003-07-02J'Dai7.05This module plays very quickly, is pretty fun and can be played without the entire series (aka stand alone). The module is a bit short (hate to see it end!) and the quests are linear in nature - but don't let that stop you!

Pretty fun, fairly easy for paladin/cleric. The first in the serie with adequate reward (magic items) much needed later on. Lost the two companions so I played most of it solo. Took the paladin to complete the "chess game".

7: A good module with some issues, but worth the download for almost anyone.

Breathtakingly short, I don't consider myself a fast player and it only took about an hour. An hour well spent! The beginning was an unique experience. A real feel of "they're coming".

At this point, it's starting to chafe that I'm still using a +1 greatsword I got at part 1(?) while all others of the party have +2 stuff. Oh, I have a +2 dagger, but with greatsword specialization it's small consolation. I'm quite poor as well.

But hey, it's weekend and I'm about to find out if part 5 has a decent shop innit. Hope so, 'cause I'm heavily encumbered. Didn't even get a chance to sell the extra +1 half plate I snatched at the end of "the children" :)

Thought that this episode was the best. Brief but the best. Would have liked the Chess game to be tougher. Playing a 7th lvl Fighter 1st lvl Ch. of Torn

Hi All,

I am nearing completion of a beta version of TLR 5. Stay tuned.

@ Kenrae
Yeah, I'm still working on the fifth part. I can't tell you how slow progress is. I actually completed an alpha version that I'm not yet pleased with enough to even send out to testers. My life is just a lot more complicated then it was a few years ago. But I still spend an hour here and there on it. It would be a real shame for me to not finish what I started, even if no one is around to play it by the time I get it out. Guess I can always play it online.

A fifth part would be sweet ;)

A groovy section in the series. I had quite a bit of fun playing through with a ranger (started in Part 1) and then played through a second time as a female paladin to see what Kalyl would do.
(Both runs were with one PC at level 9)

====== SPOILERS AHOY =======
Other than some really bad luck with my ranger I really enjoyed the family in the farmhouse. Even though my ranger had a strength score of 19, it took more than 30 tries to move the bookcase, and more than a dozen to move that crate. DOH!
I was still able to save the family both times (7 members?).

When SharLet was wisked away I was completely surprised and upset, but then immediately happy that I would be able to rescue her. But when I found her, she didn't have any equipment and ran away.
I stuck out my lower lip and held it there until the end. Nice bit of work on the story, but I didn't have to like it. *wink*

The second time through, my paladin was wisked away to the top of the tower. Attacking Kalyl before he flies off will get you a quick trip back to the starting area.
(-- If you attack him *before* he changes your clothes, you will get a 'cannot change armor in combat' message thereby keeping your stuff after respawning --)

I also did try continuing play after having my only PC kidnapped. Basically, once I remembered the "empty" chests in my earlier run, the rest of the module was smooth sailing.
Again, it only created an oddity in the journal and in the dialog with Darian: He gives the same info about assaulting the tower. Not a big deal by any means, just thought I'd throw that in.

It may be better to leave single-player PCs alone out of deference to weaker classes. *shrug* Personally I liked the "survival" mode that my paladin was put into.

Thanks for a thoroughly enjoyable module (and series).

ChaironDeCeleste,

I think I know what the problem is... maybe. The module was meant for multiplayer and I believe I never took into consideration the fact that possibly the player would get kidnapped and then they'd be the only ones to receive the "rescue" message. That would be a little wierd. If you are playing multiplayer, it would make more sense. Your companions would see the "rescue Eve" journal entry and so would Eve. But Eve would naturally know it was for the rest of the party.

Actually, it sounds like possibly the bug is worse than that. If in fact SharLet was kidnapped and the journal entry said Eve was kidnapped, then that's something else altogether and I don't know what it is. I'll take a look at the code.

Yes, the female player char was abducted by Kalyl.

Assuming a femal player with the elven hench from Glitterdale in tow has the name eve, she wil get missing companion journal entry with her own player char name Eve - 'your henchman Eve was abducted by Kalyl.'

ChaironDeCeleste,
Okay, I got the part of the bug about you finding Uncle after being in the tower. Can I assume that you were kidnapped by Kalyl? I'm not sure I understand the rest of the bug report.

Odd Bug: female player chars (played a female elf paladin with the female elf druid from Glitterdale in tow) will be referred to as the "missing companion" in journal entries. "Uncle" isn't aware that the player char *left* the tower and warns her about the dangers inside.
SharSet (?) waits in the area where the player char was abducted.

@ laisee

I am working on the conclusion now. Due to the birth of additional children, it's coming slowly. But I'm consistently plugging away on it now.

I am with Lebowski here, don't forget us single players. I enjoyed the whole series and am looking forward to a conclusion.

darthiera27,

There is a secret door at the top of the tower in the center of the area.

Posted by darthiera27 ( 65.13.xxx.xxx ) at 2005-10-03 08:54:54
Ok I liked it until I got kidnaped and then when I left the tower there was nothing left to do. Whats up with that?

I found it a tad mediocre, especially after the previous module. Still, it is not bad, it's just not great either.

lebowski, I am still planning on continuing the series. I a) had a baby (4th), b) switched jobs again, c) bought guild wars (DARN THEM!), d) decided to play through my mods with an on-line group first (almost done). After that, I will really get serious about continuing the series. I am hoping to get in one last mod before NWN 2 comes out. That or else I'll make it for NWN 2.

DaNippers. The secret door off the tower is in the middle somewhere. Walk around slowly and you'll find it.

Posted by DaNippers at 2005-07-12 08:08:55
I Can't rate this one, lol I was playing a female character, Boss man Spirited me away to his castle in the sky and I couldn't get down, lol Walked around hopeing to find a secret trapdoor, found none, And I lit the Signal fire, But Otherwise was stuck, The cutscene mentioned in an Earlier post was also a Bit annoying It made it difficult to run for the house, lol But I'd susspect by the other modules it's a fare module..

Sadly, this one was just average. Saving the house by moving big furniture pieces was unique as was locking the cellar.
But a rescue of 2 captives in a dungeon makes this just another average module.

See my review for additional details, but I want to give a strong thumbs-up for this as part of The Light Reborn series. Small in scope, but very effective and added some interesting aspects to the campaign story. I have both played through it in single-player and DM'd it as part of my ongoing Light Reborn campaign.

This isn't an easy module, however, and you'd better have a cleric along and a party (in multiplayer) that can think fast. There's a cleric henchman, so take her along if there's no PC available.

I have to give a very high rating (for me) to TLR 4. I've been DMing The Light Reborn series as a campaign and this module ran very smoothly and enjoyably as a DM. The documentation is excellent and the adventure itself is relatively small in scope and simple, but effective, in execution. I particularly liked the various side quests and individual possibilities presented by splitting the party. I also enjoyed playing this in SP, but it really shone in multiplayer.

Dwayne,
I'm afraid I'm not that far into part 5. I'm working on a DM only version right now because I and Carlo One are running DMed campaigns using the modules. Once that is finished, I'll flesh it out into a single player module. Don't forget to checkout TLR Rescue in the mean time as that is my latest module.

Great series overall. I liked the world you created and the characters. In this module I think my favorite thing was the farmhouse. Any idea when part 5 may be released?
