Very enjoyable,, though the romances could have been better. Areas are very large so time running around gets tiresome. Needs more loot pickups.
Cant wait for Ronin 2 please :) _________________________ Dalethfc

Superb module. Where is Ronin 2? (I'm hopeless)
Some typos I found:
- "rougue" - in the readme
- "whom"(should be "whim"?) - module description in game(other modules menu)
- bon sai large description and name is messed up, some other placeables as well
- "seppeku" - Harumi
- "Becareful" - Shogunate Samurai
- "you"(should be "your") - Etsuga description
- "banned"(should be "banded") - Noboru
- "rouge" - News from Midori journal entry and her letter
- "assasins" - Elite ninja description _________________________ Thanks Rolo:)

Played this mod for the 8th or 9th time. Sorry Avi seems to have left the community. After five years, I'm giving up hope for a sequel.

Not a bad little module. It's not perfect, but what really is in this world? What appealed to me the most was that it was -different-. Asian setting, low magic, low fantasy, it was just a change from the same old orc and dwarf modules. The romances were well done, but I was a little disappointed by how similar all the female ones were to one another. The girls were different, but the romances were basically the same.
That being said, if there's a part two, I'd play it.

Dear Avi, thanks a lot for making this awesome module. Made just I like it. Not excessive combat, interesting romance and great plot.
I am no fun to "japan style" but your work was exception in rule for me. Thanks again for making it.
Good Luck

Good story, great atmosphere and beautiful scenery. Music is good too. I feel like playing a new game and not just another NWN module.

A truely enjoyable experience! I was suck in from start to finish and I enjoyed the optional romance greatly(to me its not optional but a must!) so a 10 from me

A nice little mod; however, there are numerous issues I had with the mod. I'll tell you what I liked first:
The storyline/plot was very good - a nice little plot within a plot within a plot. The flashbacks were done quite nicely as were other aspects of the game. The areas, although huge, were visually pleasing and it is obvious the author is well acquainted with Japanese hierachy, layout, customs, etc. (mayhaps the author is Japanese? I dunno). I liked the NPCs that would become friends/lover of the PC, even the antognists were done nicely, ahm, I mean well (they weren't nice after all).
Now, the cons:
First and most importantly, there were spelling and grammar issues/mistakes galore. These really took me out of the roleplay aspect of the game more than once. I understand the author is not a native English speaker, however there are tools and such that can and are used by others whose first language is not English.
Next, the areas were way too large and empty. I know she had implemented a handy tourist tool for the player, however, the areas were still way too large and much too empty. I don't mind a low treasure mod in the least, however I do mind nothingness.
Beware - spoilers
The main reason I played was for the Sho romance (I am looking for romance mods to play - they are usually the most fun). I had to play through twice - the first time as a paladin, the second as a rogue. I got the romance with Sho with the rogue as, well, being a rogue there really aren't many things she wouldn't say. However, many of the dialogue options just didn't seem right for a paladin. So, I missed out on the romance, although my paladin was a much nicer girl than my rogue. *shrugs* go figure. I had chosen a paladin the first go round based upon the author's own suggestion in her readme. Instead of pursuade being a good choice in points, I'd strongly suggest the bluff, intimidate and taunt points. Believe it or not, for the female romance option, you'll need it.
There were many polish issues in the mod as well - items were not renamed but carried their NW item label. Harumi (sp?) would tell you to come talk to her, but then would either ask you to go away or thank you again for saving her. Not normally a big issue for me, however with the area sizes in this mod, it was a big issue. Plus all the extra running around (finish this task, go talk to so and so, need to do another, go there, then go back to talk to so and so...) was tiring and boring.
All that said, I'm hoping for a part two. One that you get to state if you took the romance, and who you romanced, etc. One that will tie up the loose ends left by the first part.

Its a great mode. The music was unexpected but just GREAT.The buildings and landscapes were both beautiful. The conversations were also very good. The main npcs pictures were a good way to make the mode a bit more fun. Also the way the character and the npcs stand when they fight is awesome.I enjoyed this mode very much i don't think there will a Ronin 2 but just this alone is enjoyable you should all just play it .

A flawed but enjoyable mod, with good story flow and a personal approach to the PC that should keep anyone interested until the end. A few criticisms:
-Quite a few grammatical and spelling errors. Nothing that grated on me too badly (but then, I'm used to playing translated games), but the mod could do with a little polishing up.
-(Slight spoilers)The final confrontation felt a bit off due to two reasons; the vocal song seemed rather out of place, and the fact that the battle was right out in the open and nobody took any notice was an immersion-breaker. Would suggest moving it to a more secluded area.

Great mod! It did have quite a few grammatical errors but at times they reminded me of how it sounds when my Japanese family members attempt to speak English, and therefore it worked for me on a roleplay level. Very well put together and very engaging. I just finished my third play through and am very much looking forward to Dusk of the Samurai.

Disappointing, particularly when playing the mod with a female pc. The vast amount of grammar, typographical and pronoun errors and the bugs with the romance completely detracted from my ability to enjoy this module.
I have a question where is Sho so i can ask him to help with the Nishio people i've looked all over the dojo and can't find him it bugs me. _________________________ Dying's easy Living's hard

Great atmosphere and flow of story. Still, there are some bugs that left me reloading quite some time until it worked.

Encountered a few minor bugs and grammar issues but all in all the plot and the characters were great.

Yes, she did an outstanding job on the atmospere. That's in part where custom music and tile sets come in. I'm so tired of the OC music that I often just turn it down.

The story is very well written and emotionally moving. The atmosphere is absolutely incredible and it really feels like you're in a fantasy version of Feudal Japan.
How I wish Avi had made a sequel (though the mod is complete enough on its own). If you haven't yet, do yourself a favor and DL this amazing Samurai adventure.

About all I can say is wow. Avi is decent story teller. It was the story that kept driving me to finish the module. Not that I had not guessed how it would end but rather the way inwhich the story unfolded. The story over rode any minor complaints I had. Enjoyed the romance options and the fact that you kind of had to persue them rather than the other way around.
To bad it looks like there won't be a Ronin 2, I sure would have loved to play another module by avi -- did I say she's good story teller. :)

I played this mod a number of months ago and thought I'd give it a vote. I liked it quite a bit and would also have liked to see the author make more mods, though that seems a little unlikely now.
Posted by Storm_Shadow at 2008-03-27 08:05:03 Voted 10.00 on 03/27/08
I played this along time ago and really liked it.. So I decided to re-play it, and Im stil in awe of the atmosphere in Ronin. The animation HAK makes the women neckless due to some updates since then I guess? But it didn't bother me much as it's not affecting the gameplay and story.
One of the best. To bad Avi seems to have lost her intresst in NWN, but I wish her luck and give her my thanks for creating such nice gaming memories.

I've just downloaded and played this through, and I cannot praise it highly enough... It was vast amounts of fun gettin' my Ronin on, the visuals were stunning, and it was the first module I've played from the vault that really made me feel the scale of a city properly (and the handy tourist guides saved too much aimless trekking around). I really can't say enough nice things about this module, and the story was superb - a proper feudal Japanese melodrama, with lashings of intrigue and a lovely relationship system with some really well-drawn NPCs...
Forgive me babbling, but I'm really impressed, and hoping that you'll eventually find time to release Ronin 2 - if you need any help proofreading, playtesting or whatever then I'd be glad to volunteer.
I'm off to play Dusk of a Samurai now. Many thanks for a superb module.

Excellent game for many, my entire family had fun. Thank you Avi. Your module is different from the run-of-the-mill stuff out there, a true delight.
My only regret, I have yet to find Ronin 2.
Wonderful characters and story, an enjoyable shifting in the plot. The intro warns that you need a katana wielding character, and this game restriction works as advertised.

Wow, this one is a must-play.
A beautiful scenery, an enthralling story and great NPCs. I really enjoyed the variety of dialogue options (lots of roleplaying) and the overall visual style of this module.
But some of the areas are too huge. That's why i always used these "tourist guides" instead of walking to an area myself. I think it would contribute to the atmosphere if the maps were smaller and you had to walk all by yourself. Just my opinion.
I'll give you a 9.75. Please keep on working, i'd really like to see another piece of work from you.

I have just finished your module, and let me say this, if you do not continue with Ronin 2; it will bring tears to my eyes.I escpecially liked the relationship/flirt options as it brought about the old pnp honor system in a way. Oriental Adventures has always been my flavor favorite. Being a practicioner of the arts does hold sway itself. Please keep up the fabulous work if at all permitted.

Entranced for nearly six hours in one of the saddest times in Japans' history. None of the romantic intrests took the slightest intrest in my character but I loved every minute of it and hope Ronin 2 is out soon. _________________________ Trying to learn NWN scripting in an attempt to stave off approaching senility.
