Note: the latest version of this module is available only in the Trilogy download. Click here.
It is said that you ascended to the throne of Cania, the great archdevil Mephistopheles bound to your service by your use of his True Name. News from the depths of the Nine Hells is ever unreliable, but some claim that he served you faithfully, bowing and scraping before you even as he longed for your mortal life to expire. Some tales relate that Mephistopheles would attempt to trick you as he did the Valsharess. Other tales relate that the gods themselves would intervene and alter your fate. Intended for an evil PC that finished HotU; requires SoU + HotU + 1.66.

Cool little mod, if a bit short. I didn't have a character from the end of HOTU so I used my character from the Blackguard trilogy, and he did just fine.

As others have said: rather something short and good than endless annoyance. This is dense and compact, and very well written. No complaints whatsoever, apart from that fact that its cruelness made me cringe. (I'm a whimp; but my PC loved it.)
I'm currently playing the module as a lvl 27 cleric, and I can't seem to beat Ellistraee. Some of my spells damage her, but I haven't got nearly enough of them to hope to kill her, and 99% of my melee attacks miss her (and those that don't do very little harm). Is it even possible to beat her as a cleric?

I wish you could have kept the paladin alive. My character loves corrupting paladins, and given that he knew her true name, he could have easily ordered her to love and obey him.

I've just finished playing the trilogy. I really enjoyed it. My favorite is the War of Cania. I will vote each one separately. Well done!
The final battle is much easier if you choose not to accept the "boon". Reload from a save and reject it. The follow up, War for Cania, also has an easier quest path (combat-wise) if you make your goal "escape" rather than "revenge" at the end of ths module.

Liked the story, enjoyed the continuation of the Hotu storyline, but felt let down by the ending. I don't know if anyone else managed to kill Ellistrae, but my character (Druid 15 Shifter 13) couldn't even scratch her (no matter what form I took). I'm pretty convinced that unless you're an uber-fighter type who scores a crit every hit for at least 100 damage, then its pointless even trying. Don't mind tough fights but at least give us a chance of winning. Can't see the point of continuing with the follow up mods - if I'm not competitive in this one, the boss fights in the rest are probably even more impossible...

Brilliant module, but, like all post-OC modules, it makes assumptions about what the player did in the campaign. For example, my Blackguard becmae ruler of Cania, but didn't want to destroy Toril, and destroyed Mephistopheles when he got there. Oh, well, still a great module. _________________________ I hold it to be of great prudence for men to abstain from threats and insulting words towards any one, for neither the one nor the other in any way diminishes the strength of the enemy; but the one makes him more cautious, and the other increases his hatred of you, and makes him more persevering in his efforts to injure you.
Libita, you may be correct that there is no rapier in the armory at the beginning of the module. I'll add one in a future release. However, your character should already have the best rapier in the game from HotU, Radiant Death.
Is it possible to get a hold of a Rapier? I had to create a new character for this who is pretty Rapier-reliant (Dev. Crit.). _________________________ One feels inclined to say that the idea that man should be "happy" is not included in the plan of "creation". - Sigmund Freud

A superb module that continue HoU, I found this module by the search engine, type the key word "the Valsharess". And play by chance. "Mephistopheles" is real the most tricky opponent for PC... I know he might be killed in the next module, but hope this is not the end of him.
Though, personally, I would like a "chaotic neutral" PC... but this module is still good enough to be given 10/10.
Now I am playing "War for Cania", that continues from the gods themselves, I am playing a powerful fighter(for deadly critical hit) mix 10 level pale master(immune to critical hit). The info from dialogs says PC is toward immortal, will this come true?
Also, I expect "the Valsharess" is able to appear in the future module...
This is a fine module and keep good work to the continuous series

Short and sweet - with the emphasis on the latter.
This series of modules seems to develop a story that really is appropriate for a character of post-HotU levels.
Good writing; beatiful cut-scenes. A lot of skill checks. Nice role-play opportunities.
And being able to pick one's favorite version of the Doom song is pretty cool. : )

Most excellent. Too bad it was short.

Well , being a supreme lazybones, I am just getting around to voting for the hundred or so worthy mods I think warrant votes.
This module is top notch.
I went through a Campaign, starting with Shadows of Undrentide, then TomG's SQ1, then Hordes ,becoming a PaleMaster and using Messy's True Name in the end, then onto your post hordes gems.
Your post Hordes series has a great story, immpressive dialogue, no bugs.My PaleMaster hated fighting Mystra though.8)
I will be waiting for your next work.
Thx for the great fun.

Very high quality and fun to play. I recommend anyone who plays this one to immediately begin playing "The War for Cania" followed by "Monastery of the Flaming Star".
Although this mod is short, the quality of the content within more than makes up for that.
SPOILERS:
The only complaint story wise that I have with the module is just how easily the player character is pushed around by Mystra and Eilistraee when they did what they did... I just think it would have been better to have made it seem more challenging for them. My character took a massive ego blow as a result, but slaying Eilistraee provided some satisfaction.
However, that raises an interesting question... having killed the Goddess what does that mean for my character? Is he technically harboring her essence now... could he potentially become a god similar in the way Cyric did?
All that being said looking forward in the series... being back in Faerun and Mystra's meddling has cost my character much. He now has a base of operations now - is it possible that he could kill the Chosen or do something to lure Mystra into battle... thereby killing her as well? My character is desperate for vengeance. *laughs*

An appropriate post-HOTU "evil" scenerio, when combined with excellent writing and a compelling story, all contribute to my high vote. While some may complain about it's "shortness", I personally feel as if these short mods. fill a niche' for those of us without alot of time to play an epic scale game.

Brilliant! I'm absolutely impressed with how the causes for conflict fits so perfectly without having to distort any of the original story.
Steve, nothing prevents you from playing the module with a good PC, but doing so makes no logical sense. The module assumes you chose evil quest options in HotU, and the module dialog and quests assume your PC is evil.
As to why the module is mature, there are some sexual comments that your PC can make to one of the henchmen that are derogatory. The module includes no foul language and much of the evil is "cartoon evil".

Haildodge - excellent work. I think it's nuts that people praise you up and down and then subtract 1-4 points just because it is short. Does EVERY mod have to be 10+ hours? Hasn't anyone ever heard of a fun single session adventure?? Jeez.
Anyway - I thought you captured my assassin's post-HOTU exploits perfectly. I'll definitely look for more mods by you - starting with the sequal. Awesome module! Great story, fun roleplaying, technically very sophisticated, and challenging fights. It's also nice to see something for the villains. Truly an awesome mod. Everything was perfect, atmosphere, dialogs, scripting, though the stuff in the armory was a bit overwhelming. ;)
