At last - an opportunity to avert the threat to the little town of Saltmarsh! The real enemies have been identified - evil, cruel creatures, massed in force and viciously organized. Can the brave adventurers thwart this evil and ensure the safety of Saltmarsh? This module is a pencil and paper conversion of the original module U3.
If anybody who has played this module is still around, here is my problem:
The door to the sahuagin lair won't open. Period. My Barbarian hench won't bash it, my Rogue hench won't pick it, my Wizard PC's Knock spell won't open it, and there is no key to be found anywhere. What is the deal???
I enjoyed U1 and U2, but this one is really frustrating me. These are the first community modules I've played in a long time, and would really like to complete the Saltmarsh campaign.

Thanks for the good trilogy. Like others have stated, this was the weak one. Underwater element was the bright spot, but the lack of sufficient lighting and spartan surroundings were a disappointment.
I also experienced several bugs, probably because I was using the 1.69 patch. They involved a faction issue with the captain of the ship which prevented me from finishing the mod and an inventory issue which kept loosing my items, among others. My rating did not include these problems.
Oraweb, if you are still out there, thanks again for the series.
Couldn't figure out the riddle. Am i really that dumb? Can someone give me the answers.

Lame. While with a few more party members, and/or players of the correct class (Thief, Wizard) this could have been good, there where lots of areas that where a complete waste of time. Large rooms with 50-100 empty (or near empty) coffers. Areas where I started to go blind in RL because thy where too dark for too long. I could not light a torch due to being underwater and naked (no armor/very limited weapons). Because of this I am extremely wary of modules marked as a pen and paper transfer.

I didn't really like the Sahuagin lair area. There were way too many enemies for our party and the swimming around without armor made it worse. But, most of all, it was very slow getting back to town in between. We wasted a lot of time because we didn't find the mayor easily. Also, there were a lot of empty areas. In the end we gave up on this module, partially because there were only 2 5th level chars in our party and we could not hack through the combat. Make sure you have a large group that can carry a lot before playing this.

Not nearly as good as the first two. I never finished this. The gameplay seemed to be, stumble around and click on boxes until you run out of waterbreathing, then reload and try again. The tiles were too dark to see much. I would have liked actual riddles, and not algebra problems. I lost the first objective when I left and re-entered the water, and the second objective wasn't where it should have been.
The new music was nice, and the shark was cleverly done. I loved the mechanics of the ship and how you handled swimming underwater. Unfortunately, the module wasn't very fun for me.

I supposedly need a specific key, but I have not found a single one, and I've been to the Oracle and defeated the dragon... I cannot go any further since I cannot pick the lock, nor can I seem to damage the door (I've done up to 20 points of damage in a single attack and it still does not exceed the door's damage reduction...)
I have had a blast with this series and it is a real shame I cannot go any further because of a seemingly impassable door... :o(

I too cannot find the key required to enter the Sahuigin lair. Can anyone help me out?
Thanks!

Loved the whole series, but feel like the last two held my attention, and were not as dependent on finding secret doors and such to have the plot continue. In this last part the custom additions, though not 'perfect', added such depth (visually) to the underwater experience. Two thumbs up for your many hours of work clocked to let us players and builders enjoy your creation. This was one of the best PnP series, I have played. For those who like this, you must try Jayare's 'Slavers' Conversions. Those are AMAZING. Thanks Oraweb for your contributions to the vault! Twar.
Hi. I have finished U1 and U2, then trying to play this mod. But something is strange. My PC is a multiclass Paladin/Sorcerer. He knew 2 1st-level sorcerer spells, Identify and True Strike. Now True Strike is removed from his spells known in this module. Also, Bless Weapon is removed from Paladin spell list. What is going on?

Loved the first two of the series but this one felt rushed as a single player game. I can certainly see where a DM would make this a lot more interesting. What happened to Saltmarsh? The dialogue of the NPCs is minimal at best.

Underwater fighting and water breathing items were great. I wasn't fond of the numerous doors/chests requiring specific keys. Also, riddles would have been better if they were handled through multiple choice in dialogue. Fantastic work and a great end to the series!

I just finished the U1-3 series. It was awesome. The atmosphere and the music selection was point on perfect. I don't know if oraweb still monitors these threads, but...great job! I hope he still does b/c I would like to see and play more of his work!
Hi, I have searched and not found a similar circumstance however, I am hoping someone out there can help.
I have played U1&U2 without problem. All files, updates and expansions are up to date. I have played a dozen other mods and several PW's without incident.
I have searched for anyone else having this issue and found none.
In U3 I have found a possible BUG?
After speaking with the Oracle, I turn to go through the first door, and crash - Every Time. I have tried approaching from multiple different angles, stealthed, etc... crash every time.
Closest I got was trying a reverse camera angle, but as soon as the door comes into the picture - you guessed it - crash.
I have re-updated the dungeon haks, any other suggestions please?
Blessings,
Richard

Hi,
When I try to play the module it keeps saying I am missing the hakpak. But I downloaded both that were listed. We both really liked the first two modules!
Thanks,

The best of the trilogy and probably the best use of custom content I have seen. Great work Oraweb -- thanks! _________________________ El Dano Black Thorn -- a Forgotten Realms mystery adventure for levels 23-27. Mountain of Mirrors -- a classic PnP conversion for levels 4-7.

Definitely better than the 2nd, but still, the ending was bland. I was hoping to fight a final enemy or something.
The first is still the best. _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them.

I loved this trilogy--so faithful to the modules from which they came, so much great detail. I don't know if oraweb still checks these boards, but if you do, man, my sincere thanks for your work!
(minor spoilers below)
My only suggestion for future work would be to change some details that seem bad game-design choices...having a fairly empty level one in PnP can be fairly painless, but having to backtrack all the way through it gets to be a pain. And could one of the two exits to the surface on Level 3 actually leave you someplace (one-way, of course) where you could get to your ship? Again, trudging back through the whole dungeon was a bad way to end an otherwise great mod.
As for the encounters being too tough, the readme file explicitly says that players might be better off sneaking and using stealth rather than just hacking through. Still, that said, I ran a half-orc fighter (barely became a Champion of Torm right at the end!) up to Level 8 (7 Fighter, 1 Champion) running from Secret of Saltmarsh to this module. I did it alone (and yes, I died a few times, and had to reload...and used a lot of healing potions, too!), and managed to completely clear out the Sahuagin level. It was tough, at times, sure, and I used a lot of healing potions, and more than a couple of bless, barkskin, and bulls strength potions, but I made it through. The only brutal fight was the one at the end, against the mass hordes of sahuagin. But after a couple of tries, I made it through.
All in all, lots of fun. Thanks!

Such a good mod, but so hard to finish....
In order to know my belief about U3, just have a look on the comments of Jess, one of the guys I've played with this mod...
Posted by Jess_ at 2004-12-02 09:39:00 Voted 8.50 on 12/02/04
This mod is technically perfect and beautiful with the LOK tileset. The underwater environment is realistic by some special scripts : armors and weapons limited, water breathing and drowning.
But the difficulty seems badly evaluated. My group of 4 levels 4 or 5 were absolutely unable to complete the mission. The big problem is that we must complete all 3 objectives to be victorious. No partial victory !!! It is a great problem.
We lack the clues to find the informations we need and there are too many guards to fight our way through ! We have explored all levels but not all rooms ! We had to flee each time there were more than 5 Sahuagins in one room to avoid extermination.
I lose my fun in the 2 final sessions of play where we have to reload because of too many deaths. And we decided to abandon. I vote a "8,5" for the quality and the work done.
