Description
NOTE: This module is a sequel to 'Tale of a Mage, Chapter 1 - The Uvudry Threat', and unless you have played Chapter 1, Chapter 2 won't make much sense at all.

Summary/Description:

You find yourself emprisoned in a Planar Pocket by your arch-nemesis Avitar, after having defeated the Nya'tar Tyman Uvudry and his army of undead. Avitar now has control of the Soul-link that Uvudry had originally used to link your soul to his own.

Your first priority is to find a way to escape this place; afterwards, you must find a way to remove the soul-link. Luckily, Askyba Moriano, your close friend and mentor back on Ciarria so long ago, is trapped here as well, and is ready and willing to help you...

What to Expect:

'Tale of a Mage, Chapter 2 - The Ceremony of Souls' is a module designed exclusively for high-level arcane spellcasters that have finished Chapter One of the series. While there are many opportunities for roleplaying and there is lots of detailed and involved dialogue, this module is also very combat-intensive. If you don't relish the idea of getting your hands dirty and becoming a battle-mage, this module is probably not for you.

On the other hand, if you're looking for epic spellduels, intelligent enemies that will dispel, buff, and trade spell for spell in combat, exhilarating boss fights that will require strategy and skill to emerge victorious from, and a strong central story/plot, then look no further!

Prepare for the ultimate NWN spell-slinging experience; welcome to 'Tale of a Mage, Chapter 2 - The Ceremony of Souls'!

FEATURES Custom Music as well as many High-Level Custom Spells such as Teleport, Volcanic Eruption, Tidal Wave, Chaos Blast, Lightning Storm, Chain Negativity, and more!

NOTE: This module uses the same 3 NanoSky Hi-Res Haks that were used in Chapter 1. If you still have them, there's no need to download them again (duh).

NEW as of 3/12/06 :: Thanks to community member Taellosse, the 11 Custom spells now have non-color icons (which look like BioWare ones, with dark purple and white) ! Huge thank-you to Taellosse! :)

Cheers,

Hugie

Though it's not a sequel per-se, you may want to check out The Island, a twisted/dark exploration adventure for PC's of level 26-28, after completing the 'Tale of a Mage' series--after all, the level range makes sense. ;)

Ok ok, I got it. It was just very hard to see, even with TAB held down 1 down 3 to go!

This might be a stupid question but.. SPOILERS Just killed the mage-killer. How do I get the fire rune? what do i do, there's nothing beyond it... tried to deposit the beast's head on the floor (always a good idea..) Don't know what to do now

Great little tale indicating that there is no place like home! Not a bad place to start any FRPG story. This Grand Escape from a planar prison is quite a gem. Only flaw that mars the complete storyline for me is having to break out of character and murder one of my prison guards. If another good and/or moral option becomes available, I will upgrade my vote on this Epic Mage tester accordingly. Well done!

Clarification - I realize that Slow spells could have been learned by anyone over the past 20+ lvls. I simply noticed that this was the only 3rd lvl spell or less not available in scroll form in either mod. This tweaks my O/C nature a little....

I do see many improvements in this mod over the Prequel. The storyline is kept taught, the opponents are challenging, and the feel of the game is less linear but still has direction and purpose. *SPOILERS* Some notes thus far: * Major flaw for myself is the not so clear way to gain entrance into the Time quest. I could not discover a way past the door, so I had to read spoilers here. Sorry, but intimidation leading to murder should not be the main or only option to gain the key needed. This is when the story ceases to be about the Player's character and choices, and becomes another NPC to finish the tale. * XP awards very greatly; Only gaining 20 XP for foes frequently tossing 9th lvl spells, but get 1000 XP for speaking to a Very Large Squirrel, etc. This pacing gets confusing, as it took nearly 3 key quests to gain a single Lvl Up, but got another with just the remaining one. Personally, I do not mind lesser awards for kills and major awards for Quests, but it should remain consistant. * Excellent cutscene in the death of the Lord of Souls is somewhat spoiled by our inability to do anything but watch. Pls Petrify us first or something, as I wanted to kill the attackers or offer help to the victim. * Slow spell scrolls are missing; my only unlearned 3rd lvl spell. And you may wish to add some scrolls of your own spells in order to learn those, too. Lvl Up additions are not nearly as frequent in this sequel. * Dwarven mage inventory still cannot be accessed, which only really becomes an issue if he needs healing. Pls add some Greater Restoration or Heal potions to his battle kit, and/or Regeneration. * I am using a +5 heavy mace purchased in the first mod. It seems a bit strange that I have failed to discover such enhancement upon the weapons of my foes. And Epic treasure drops may wish to delete FR based literature, alcohol, mundane sling bullets a.k.a. rocks, etc. from the menu. * Is resting always such an issue for Arcanists? It makes me appreciate my other classes a little more, though I do enjoy tossing such powerful spells for a change. Back to the grand escape....

Awesome! Just finished Tale of a Mage 2 in one sitting and, man, I'm exhausted! Heh! What an awesome ride! My hat is off to you for balancing this thing as well as you did. (combat, items, etc...) What an absolute blast (pardon the pun) being a fully locked and loaded mage that can just kick most things butts! I learned alot about what I'm afraid to say is my new favorite calss from your 'Mage' series. It certainly wasn't easy. Can't count how many times I reloaded, heh. But once you figure out the enemy's weakness man, just hit the gas and fry 'em, heh! I love it! ***Spoilers Follow*** -The maps were superb! I think the underwater part was my fav as far as eye candy/coolness etc... -The music was perfect! Oh man, nothin like rockin out while your smokin the badguys! lol -I agree that the ending was abrupt, but hey, the conclusion was in there...Perhaps you are leaving room for a Chapter 3?? *please* -I read a few posts up where someone was whining about the large battle near the end and am now kicking myself for not using the cool draggy summon tool I'd found. I played with all three of those items but somehow forgot to use them in combat. I fought all those dudes near the end with just my buffs (including extended-haste I cast on myself right before I shifted into a dragon). Once they all started drinking potions, I did slide the difficulty down to easy, I'll admit it :+) but other than that, the fight was deffinitely do-able. If there was one thing I'd gripe about it would be that they had like three pots a piece. Just made it rather frustrating and prolonged the inevitable. I think I used 3-5 heal potions as well as 2-3 greater stoneskins and haste pots and never had to unshift. My character ended just a hair over level 28 pure wizard from playing both modules and prelude. ***End Spoilers*** Anyway, thanks a ton for making this great series! ! I think now my mage needs a nice long rest. Perhaps she will go relax on that lovely island I keep hearing about? :+) Cheers! MM

@Fangorn: Thanks--glad you figured it out. :) In general, *never* attack anything that isn't hostile to you; in all mods, not just my own, doing that is just asking for faction issues. :) _________________________ Alex "Hugie" Hugon Writer - Ossian Studios NWN2: Mysteries of Westgate - NWN2's first Adventure Pack Moonshadows - An Action-Packed, Story-Driven Adventure in the Forgotten Realms [Development Blog] The Third Sign - A Novel-to-NWN2-Module conversion of Gregory A. Very Good module, like the custom spells and the custom music. The guitar riff was excellent for boss battles. My only complain are a few bugs that make finishing the game completely impossible (like being able to kill the priest outside of conversation, changing the faction scripts to make all neutral turn hostile instead of just priests). All in All, a good mod with a great story and excellent concept.
