Description
This is a much revised and expanded version of my prior "The New Prelude", and maintains its underlying Christian worldview. You begin as an American war veteran suddenly in Faerun, and the adventures begin from there. There is much more than what the OC Prelude gives you in story, adventures, relationships, and module affecting choices. Ver 3.5.1 fixes bugs reported by players.

ack! I am a very patient with these mods as I can imagine timing is everything. I've had to start this mod over 4 x's to get the timing down right and walk and talk in the correct sequence. If you do not follow the written path to a "T" it will mess this mod up easily. I highly recommend to anyone about to play this "Save Often" Back tracking is hardly possible and no one that I know of likes starting over and over. Having said this. I truly liked the mod. It is very buggy though. It is also scatterred and direction is a bit confusing. As far as making comments on the religious content. IT IS A GAME! Nothing else, nothing more. An opinion of another is just the same. I come from a very Christian home and up bringing. As my husband grew up in the church. His father is a minister (of 25 years) and has his Doctorate if Theology as well as 2 Master's degree's. Even he felt critiquing the game on it's religious content was rediculous. Enough of my ranting. lol I give this mod a vote of 9.0, It lost a full point b/c it is so buggy and there is no way to back track and fix things you miss. Otherwise it was very well written. Though I think making referance to old English, maybe more should have been used. As for weapons being over powered. Well he was sent by God himself and seems only right that the equipment given by God would be "godly" Although it did make the fighting very easy. I look forward to any new mods you may decide to make. Best wishes Liso _________________________ Michele O'Sullivan Ossian Forum Admin Link Liso NWNPodcast Staff Link

Greetings Poltava (Spoilers Below) Maybe bugs? I just found your mod early this morning while browzing the NWN vault. I downloaded the AribethsDilemma3.5.1.zip. The 2 are the same zip file correct? One is just revised/updated? Having asked that I am having a dilemme of my own. I started the mod this evening. Feeling a bit out of sorts here. Nothing seems to be going in the order of your play guide. I do not like even reading thoughs. In this case I needed to make reference. Got to the Inn and talked to the man outside. Got inside and the next thing I know I'm leaving? Also the man asking me to go to Neverwinter reuqest of Aribeth. He was not in the room after I was told I had a visiter. I ran upstairs and then back down. Poof, he finally shows. The Forest. I speak to the Inn Keepers and go clear out there Inn. I try the cave and find the door is locked. I go back and tell the Inn Keepers that there Inn is clear etc etc. I go back and enter the store. After a bit of back and forth chatting I learn of the cave and the Nymph's request. Great! I go in there and wipe it out. I find the key and open the store with the skellie shop keeper. Am I supossed to be able to leave out of that dungeon/cave at the other end or back track out the main enterance? I ask this b/c The Nymph is still with me and I can not figure out how to shake her. I am missing something here? I got the book from the alter as well. Any help would be great. I'm interested in finishing this mod. I am pretty sure I like it so far LOL Regards Liso _________________________ Michele O'Sullivan Ossian Forum Admin Link Liso NWNPodcast Staff Link

As much as I liked this module I am forced to concur that the equipment available is a little overblown. I understand that it is optional but it also seems necessary early in the game when you are thrown up against demons and such as a first or second level character... Just a thought.

SilverStar333: What is your source for the manuscript report? Would like to check it out. Paladins get their spells/abilities from the diety they serve, a Christian one would be no exception. Ao, or delegate is not needed. On conversions, Acts ch 2 tells us 3000 converted in Jerusalem after 1 sermon, and that "The Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved." In ch 5 the priests of the Sanhedrin, hardly fans of the new faith, stated to the apostles "You have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine." Since Jerusalem was the seat of orthodox Judiasm that is no mean feat. The Holy Spirit is quite able to do as He jolly well pleases. It is His job to produce the harvest, the believer's job to get the word out. And, there is not the remotest hint in Scripture that there will be wholesale conversions. Jesus Himself did not get them, and God's people have been described as a 'remnant' from at least the days of the Prophets. Neither published Corinthians ch 1:1-11 refers to what you say, First going to greetings, Christ's work, and the beginning of the section on unity, and Second on comfort. Only the PC is shown in game as using tracts, and his source is indicated in the Portal scene. Even if locals were to use them, a J for J type can be done by hand in about 20 minutes, or less. Ao people can be anywhere they choose; the WotC sources do not indicate a significant presence in Neverwinter. When one is dealing with a fantasy setting, realism is hardly a solid term. Very little in the DD universe is, strictly speaking, realistic. Knight25 has the right idea on all this, enjoy the game, and do not parse overmuch. Cegli: Thanks for the comments, tried to make it more of a story with developed characters, rather than a mere dungeon crawl with cardboard 'characters'. Have read various gripes in the forums along those lines, and am determined to make both story and characters as interesting as I can. As for weapons and armor the guide states they are present for the allegory, and that their use is optional. _________________________ My dear friend C.S. I thought I had already voted for this mod? Maybe it was the first version.

Story is good and the characters are interesting. Combat is too easy with the weapons and armor availabe right at the start.

Just a thought here. I believe it best not to over-analyze the module and simply enjoy it for what it is. You're not required to agree with everything in it. (Though as a Christian I do...) I hardly think it really matters where the pamphlets come from or what version of the Bible is being used. Just my $0.02.

Okay, even for the first 6 or 7, that might be a bit high for a NEW belief, 3 or 4 is more believable. On the original manuscripts, yes, they DO exist. Last I heard, someone was trying to do a direct translation to english on all of them. I'd love to see what they come up with :) Tyr is the God of Justice, and sealed away evil because of the bond of trust by the Fenris wolf eating his hand (that is the gist of the story, there is more). Also, how does a Chistian Paladin get spells there? The only reasonable explanation is that Lord AO would be the one to grant such powers in the realms to Christian Paladins (or he would delegate that to one of the good gods there). I played a monk myself, so spells weren't a concern, but I thought I'd mention that point. And my whole point with all the information I put out to you is to keep your background realistic, nothing more really when you read through it :) It's kind of like the old mentality that you'd be okay if you cast a fireball into a 10 by 10 by 10 room, not! Of course, it would blow the door, and go up the passage way to where the PC's are *laughs* As for as the Holy Spirit helping to spread the word, you would NOT convert the realms, or even a sick city, that fast, old beliefs die hard. Consider this real life thing: I've told Christians that the Qabalah is actually a part of their heritage, but because the Qabalah has magick and ritual in it, they can't believe it *laughs* Yet I am right, and even Corinthians I, verses 1 thru 11, calls all such things gifts of the spirits :) You'd be amazed at ppl who can't accept that, and even though their own bible says these things from the Holy Spirit, they still ask where you get these abilities from *LOL* Now, considering such resistance, even among Christians when you present a logical viewpoint, just imagine a new religion in the realms, no matter how good, how right, how nice, how beautiful, it will still take time to grow and be accepted by more than just a few. Also, consider the worship of Brigid in Ireland; the Catholic church did their best to put an end to it, but in the end, they couldn't, so they made her a saint ;) Just some things to consider :) That brings me back to the pamphlets/scrolls :) If only 6 or 7 at the Inn are involved in the new belief, it would take all of them to produce a number of scrolls needed to hand them out so freely (referring to what I said in my first post about all this). And once again ,this goes back to realism in your adventuring world :) AO in Neverwinter, why not? :) He appeared where everyone could see him in Waterdeep, and Neverwinter is not that far away. Surely a few of those who saw him are in Neverwinter, but as to whether or not they have a temple there to AO, who knows? That would really be up to each individual DM and Module writer in all honesty :) Technical things: I'll try the mod again, ignoring most of the Christian things as I did the first time through ;) I'll see what happens :) _________________________ Never pass up a good opportunity!

SilverStar333: Not sure where you see 'great numbers' as the group at the Wayside likely is around 6-7, and in Fern there is 1 convert and 1 enquirer (not counting Marita). While the 'kehelah' in Neverwinter is larger, in comparison to a city with about 40,000 (including refugees), 24 or so members doesn't even show on the radar. Speed of growth depends on local hunger and the working of the Holy Spirit, so with the plague situation in the city and the Spirit's working, word may well spread quickly. Since the stated greatest interest is among the plague-sick, the congretation's actual working size will likely remain small. As for the Bible version, that is deliberately vague as that is hardly the main issue of the module. On a practical side, it would be whatever would both be readily understandable by the literate part of the population and a clear presenting of the message. The liklihood of the original manuscripts even existing now, let alone being found is pretty much nil. While hardly an expert, have read enough of both the Hebrew and Greek texts to be comfortable with the job the scholars have done. As for phamphlets, they need not be either wordy or complex, as their main job is to initiate conversation, stimulate thought, and refer the recipient to a congregation where details may be obtained if desired. The model I have in mind is those by 'Jews for Jesus' which are simple, direct, and easy to both write and print. WotC source materials on Neverwinter do not mention AO as a presence in the city, though it is an interesting idea, particularly when the PC gets outside the city. At present, there is a close association with the followers of Tyr, as indicated in both Arianne's conversation when the PC gets to Neverwinter, and in the one he has with Oleff near the end. Technical problems: It seems you did not read the included strategy guide, nor follow Nymphe's indications to return to the store. Will make that more clear in a future update. Fern: Neither I nor my severl testers have ever had the mayor keep speaking about his son after getting the ring in several test runs each during a multi year process. What did you do so I can try to replicate the problem? Once he gets the ring he goes into the next quest. Why in the world did you kill Veran in town? There was neither need to, nor indication he was the villain. You go to the Mayor to get the first part of the mine quest, he sends you to Veran, who completes the deal then walks off. You then have the mine to clear, ring to return, Veran to find, a mayor to report to again, and then leave town to go to Neverwinter. Quit? Nothing else to do? You have the whole time in Neverwinter ahead of you. Depending on your choices, about 4-5 hours of it. _________________________ My dear friend C.S.
