An epic quest for the Lost Treasure of Kaldric the Foul on the remote island kingdom of Varota.
On the brink of civil war, a divided Royal Family vies with the noble dynasties of Bloodaxe and Valiant for control of the island, as the Temple of the Goddess Tanja seeks to purge witchcraft from the countryside. The emerging merchant houses of Bratik, Augustus and Lupin compete for influence through liasions with the nobility and the powerful city guilds.
As your ship docks, it seems that you will be drawn into this maelstrom. Yet at that very moment, another ship is ploughing its way through an unnatural storm to bear a far more sinister cargo to the island. Eldritch forces are unleashed, which threaten the very fabric of existence.
Are you the One Foretold, who will unlock the deadly secrets of the enigmatic Treasure?
ADULT CONTENT WARNING
If easily offended by explicit language, nudity, cartoon violence, fantasy magic or fictional religions, this is not for you. May you live in peace, and allow others to do likewise.
IMPORTANT - WHICH VERSION?
1.69 users are advised to download the latest version of the module and hakpaks.
THE VERSIONS ON THIS PAGE ARE OUT-OF-DATE AND UNSUPPORTED.
If you do decide to download these obsolete versions, be sure to download the right hakpak - Enigma2 for the 1.68 version 1.22, Enigma3 for the 1.69 version 1.23 (ACAG102 is required in both cases).
HORSE TUTORIAL
There is a tutorial and FAQ for horses at the 1.69 Riding Academy. Enigma Island assumes that you're familiar with that material, though it provides a simpler interface that you'll probable use most of the time.
COMPATIBILITY
It's advisable to move all custom content out of your override folder while playing Enigma Island.
There are known issues with "Necromancy 101" and "Tony K's Henchman AI". It's very likely that other custom extensions will cause problems, too.
I understand that the 1.69 version works with PRC, but this is not supported.
SERIES STATUS
Part 1 is a complete game in its own right.
Part 2 is a higher-level adventure based on the same scenario.

Great module by an obviously erudite author. I really value realism in games, and here it is prevalent in both day to day situations and the in-game politics/history. The depicted world is basically what late middle ages with magic could be like.
Since there was nothing I did not like, I will keep this review short - as we all know, complaints are much more interesting a subject than praise. ;)
Ah, just a note from my player character. She was absolutely revolted by the taste and texture of Miggins' pies. _________________________ Voting my black heart out.
@Steve_Savicki - the Read Me explicitly warns you about the sexual content and item strip. If that's not for you, don't play.
There is no door between Andersham Castle and the Well of Souls - they are connected by the Dark Tower. The walkthrough describes how to open the latter.

-.25: item strip
-.25: used hak that won't allow my custom person
-.25: couldn't do well of souls by opening Amderstam castle... all doors were open... I had to use the console "Jump to point" in order to continue.
-.25: some sexual inappropriateness (you could tell the story without the explicitness) _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them.
@JettaJoe - it's not essential to enter Holy College, but there are two ways of obtaining a pass.
You can give Asteron's Shield to Sir Patrick in Templar Hall, or accept the Kill The King quest from Prince Penric.
P.S. You'll get a faster response if you use the official support site at proleric.com - I only monitor NWVault occasionally, as the versions here are out-of-date.
But how the heck do you get into the Holy College? Have no clue how I can do this. I need some sort of Royal Warrant or permission from the leader of the Templars (supposedly). How do I get said permission? Have no freaking clue.
Thanks!

One of the more exceptional MODS I have played since rediscovering NWN1!

Normally games that start with a level 1 character are not quite entertaining. But this one is an exception! Can't work to proceed to Chapter 2!
QuoVadisNation - there is a fix for that bug on the support site.

I'm still playing the game.
I guess all I wanted to say so far really is that the decision to turn hench men into dwarves literally for helping Penric is pretty retarded. And I don't have a save to get rid of it. Oh well.
Proleric, Chaba isn't a Shaman. She definitely is a Shawoman.
I just found that flaw more than important enough to be reported.
Beside? Fun!

Proleric,
Finished, what can I say, aah wow, what a trip. A very gruelling exercise in testing the limits of frustration with a lot, maybe too many, very tricky doors to get open. That in my humble opinion is the mods only fault.
Dunrobins door drove me insane, it would say it was open then the nosy watchman would come running in and it would lock again, then my unlock would be unsuccessful , grr, if i had not known by capitulating and reading the walkthrough I would have been led to to believe (which I was) that door was very much locked and there was no point trying to get when it was and is plot critical to do so.
Apart from the door issue there were no problems with the game , no lags that seem to have plagued some and I do not have a dual core machine.
The horses were great, just you never got to ride them very far before dismounting, but they worked very well.
I'm not one to get hung up over semantics especially in the names and actually found this to be extremely funny, especially the equine ones.
I was also highly amused at one liaison that occurred and just a little chagrined that the lights went out!
Best Regards

OK, legitimate problem now. After I kill Kalia, speak to everyone, and leave the building, nothing happens. The walkthrough says that there is supposed to be some sort of cutscene at Andersham, but I can't get that to trigger. I just walk outside to the Iron Palace.
Any help?
Thanks!
In any case - great mod. I really enjoyed it. While it's not really a role-playing mod per se, as the dialogue is often lacking and your companions aren't too interesting, it is a fantastic adventure and puzzle mod. Bravo!

Hmm. Fixed it now.
I tried reloading, but that didn't work either. Eventually I rested and tried again, and that seemed to do the trick. I suspect that the presence of Fantina's summoned badger somehow prevented her from mounting.
In any case, all better now. :)

I've decided to give this mod another go, and I'm really enjoying it this time. I've just run into a slight problem, however, and I was wondering if I could get some help.
I've just come out of King Asteron's tomb to mount up our horses and return to Koberg, but Fantina refuses to mount her horse. I've tried freeing the horse and then reassigning it to her, removing her from my party and then re-adding her, everything...I just can't get her to get up on that horse. It's frustrating.
Callimachus - it sounds like you have something else installed which is over-riding the standard NWN 1.69 files. Do you have any custom content in your override folder, or any other non-standard game modifications?
I finished the mod and started the second, and I've had some very odd visuals in both, and wondered if there was something I didn't install correctly, or something.
First of all, my PC seems to be literally blowing fire out of his behind. Second, all the horses are invisible once mounted or appear as spinning dice. Third, the halberdiers and Templars seem to have strange blue skeletal wings. Fourth, after the battle between Penric and Morgan and Penric's assumption all the henchpeople appear as dwarves. The worst thing was with Fenetra, whenever I discovered one of the 4 temples she seemed to literally lose her head. Few things are as scary as a nude headless dwarf dancing around...
I am totally with you on the religion issue Proleric. When you're an atheist (I am one also) basically there are two choices: outright hostility in regards to religion or tolerance of it. And once people think that you feel one way or another you are 'stuck with it' as you said. It's way better to just leave it alone, especially in a story that takes place in a fantasy world. So if your writing in regards to the cult members doesn't quite live up to the high writing standards of the rest of the mod (I didn't notice), I totally understand why and don't blame you one bit.
I'm sorry EI3 doesn't appear as though it will work out. I was really looking forward to it, but I understand that these things happen. I'll keep checking your website in hopes of future work from you. Thanks so much for all of your hard work on EI! _________________________ The less you know, the more you believe.
Sorry for delayed response, I've been away. If you didn't already find the solution, the clue is "maybe we need to find out more about this place". Try the back door or the cellar of Greystone Manor (there are two ways in).

Flippin hell.. there is Always someone having moan about a name or a meaning. It's a game,, a fantasy world,, if you dont like it dont play.
macabroid is just like the PC muppets who sit there and watch a film, then moan that they were offended.
Top mod,, the odd bug but still excellent.
Post Card humour to :) Love it, Another thing that is rare because of the PC pillocks. _________________________ Dalethfc

I'm Russian, and honestly the name given to the templar goddess never bothered me at all. I always thought it was pronounced with a 'Norwegian' J rather than the Russian pronunciation.
One thing, and one thing only bothered me in EI was the one-time deterrence from the witty tongue-in-cheek humour it has with those childish Master Baits and Seaman Stains gags at the start of the 2nd module.
I liked EI because it combined hearty laughs (like the street performance and george bush reference) with a serious storyline and created a perfect blend between the two, and that one little thing made me wrinkle my nose... nitpickiness, but hey.

> goddamned BRITISH, if you please!
Sorry, I should have guessed by the pythonesque flavor in your humor :) Unfortunately, wasn't able to find any info about your native country on the Web.
> I'd be interested to know if other Russian speakers had the same reaction to the name Tanja.
Yes, I understand. And surely no offence taken - I was just clarifing that liberal usage of other culure's names may often lead to unpredictable consequences. As for me, I'm quite liberal in my social and political views, so I suspect my reaction was the weakest of possible. But OK, I'll try to ask my friends about their possible reactions...
> It doesn't have a very strong connotation in Britain. It might suggest a slightly pretentious girl to some
In Russia, Tanja is not a name at all. All "Tanjas" are actually Tatjanas. And there's absolutely nothing pretentious about it: it's a diminutive, addressing to a respected person by the name of Tanja is commonly regarded as an almost offensive familiarity.
> If I'm either sympathetic or hostile to Christianity, I'm stuck with it. Freedom comes when I move away, and it becomes less important. So, I don't want to write about it.
That's just the point. You don't want to think or write about religion, and as a result the whole cult of Tanja looks somehow flat: it's just a decoration, they don't even look like actual believers.
PS On the second thought, I don't see anything post-modern about the ending. It's just a set of artificially "invented" puzzles, that has nothing to do with the EI world, be it post-modern or not. Quite a pity, especially because King Asteron's tomb was a perfect example of a good puzzle, fun and seamlessly integrated into the Enigma Island world.
