Blue dragons rule the lands with an iron grip, subjugating all the free folk into abject slavery. Their leader is the legendary and ominous Barados Nemlight, an ancient blue dragon endowed with thick armor, enormous strength, merciless cunning, and, perhaps, some quality more than natural. Despite this, one slave dares to defy his masters and escape, plotting to some day, somehow, overthrow the Blue Dragon empire.

This file is large (271 MB) - due to a large array of new voice acting. The current version (v16) was posted 7 February, 2007. It uses CEP v2.
Dragon Dominant player characters go from level 1 to level 13 or 14.

The player begins by joining a band of outlaws who seek to disrupt draconic operations in a relatively petty way, but soon the player is released to find greater opportunities and travelling companions in and around River City, a town situated north of blue dragon territory that is protected by a benevolent gold wyrm. The player attempts to assemble the ingredients for a magical weapon with which to inflict real damage on the blue dragons and their orc and lizardfolk servants. As the adventure draws to its climax, the player must run a desperate gauntlet toward either triumphant victory or permanent ignominy.

Found one minor bug - if you ask for a Greatsword when you get the special weapon, it doesn't work because the script that gives you the weapon is looking for avengerofikar26 and the actual item is avengerofikar026.

That said, this is still one my my all time favorite mods; excellent story, a great world with plenty of detail. I for one enjoyed the voice acting, and appreciate the effort that went into it.

Really liked this module, remember excellent dialogue and in particular general creativity in the storyline. (I should have voted when I played it a few months ago!) I don't recall any major bugs...

I was very disappointed in this module, which I thought was largely mediocre. It was basically a series of old-fashioned dungeon crawls based around a couple of go-fetch quests. While that isnt bad in and of itself, there were a lot of other elements that were lacking. Visually, a few areas were nicely done, such as the engineers shop in River City, but most were just average, and some were poor. The orc caverns, for instance, featured a bunch of small, identical caves connected inexplicably - by wooden doors. The Elf Haven was simply a woodland area with all of two elves. The in-game explanation is that the elves were all hiding in the trees, but quite frankly, thats weak. The one inn in River City features a bartender, one merchant, and a bunch of henchman all standing facing each other. There are no other patrons in the bar, and no one is moving or talking to each other. I cant recall seeing any random people walking around in the city or in any other buildings as well, and the main gate of the city looks like it opens up into a cul-de-sac, rather than leading to the outside world. These are all little things, but they all add up.

Area design was often poor as well. For instance, the palace is made up of a few odd merchants, a few random rooms and hallways, and one main room in a layout that comes off as random and unrealistic (and again, there are no servants or courtiers or anything wandering around). The temple in River City featured one main room and a hallway leading off to another room with a merchant. Not only does this not match up with the exterior at all, but it also meant that every time I wanted to shop there, I had to waste time walking down this hallway. Again, minor things like this add up.

The worst element, however, was the sound. Whereas good voice acting adds a nice touch to a module, bad voice acting can really detract from it, and the voice acting in this module was terrible. At best, the voice acting was stiff and awkward. At worst such as in the case of the dwarf henchman it felt completely out of place and was so grating that it made me actively dislike the module (never mind the fact that his various quips and jokes were unfunny and irritating). I know that opinions are always going to vary among players, but in this case, the praise thats been showered on the voice acting seems so at odds with how obviously awful it was to me that Im actually experiencing some cognitive dissonance.

As it is, I couldnt finish the module: when I found all the gems and went back to the palace, I discovered the gold dragon had inexplicably turned hostile. I used dm_setfactiondefender to fix that, but then the next conversation wouldnt work properly. As it was, I was kind of relieved. While the module wasnt bad enough to make me quit outright on my own, it wasnt much fun to play, and so I was glad for the excuse to move onto something else.

It has been over 3 years since I played this mod and so I coud not remember most of it. Finished as an elf wiz 2/ ftr 5/ AA 6 but found combats a lot challenging this time.

Played hardcore so attacks of opportunity on my archer makes a difference. Shame that there was no +3 attack and mighty +3 or better bow but hey ho. Once I was hasted it made a difference.

Couple of things Persimmon is still wearing scale mail she does not have any light armour so she can dual wield with no penalties.

After killing X dragon return to Wing Village meet Mossy (Half orc priest) and we enter a dialogue of disccussing our time in a desert? what desert hadn't used him until early on.

The attack of the dragons after new ballista. Had to reload that a few times as Givren? the wizard was hurling spells that were actually killing Cholley and I.

Managed to pick up xp for 2 dragons but Cholley had been killed. Meteor storm folowed byhorrid wilting. Although did pick up a few ironskin rings from defenders. This meant that Cholley was now impervious to most physical damage as he was alos wearing a Grt X belt depending on the opponent.

Unfortunately it looks as if there is no sequel. Should change the name to Dragon Dormant?

I seem to have run into a bit of a problem during my playthrough:
(Warning: Spoilers)

I am attempting to fulfill the quest to expose Mechna as a traitor. I, have tricked Mechna into believing I'm on his side, have retrieved the ring from the Rakshasa, but I encounter problems every time I try to return and expose the gnome. I've tried it a few times, and I can only get one of two possible scenarios:

1. I follow the conversation to the end, and the Blue Dragon kills me.

2. I engage Mechna in combat before the conversation comes to an end, and kill him. But, as a result, all of the named NPCs in the town try to kill me.

Thank you for your time.

Thanks, all! This is Gwindor of Nargothrond. I've moved on to a NWN2 persistent world, but I'll always remember having great good times making DD, struggling with scripting, writing the stories, inviting a series of folks into my basement studio and handing them scripts . . . what a blast! Hugs and kisses to all who played! Apologies for those who found bugs! Best wishes to all!

A Delightful trip with everything that makes it fun. Amusing friends, tough enemies and a love interest. I particularly enjoyed the great vocalizations. It has always amazed me that the creators of this wonderful stuff do so only for the fun and challenge. Thanks.

Saw some really nice work put on this module, like the voice-acting, but falls short on the story and the end of the module is just plain, irritating hack&slash

Posted by bolero at 2008-11-17 21:19:04    Voted 9.50 on 11/17/08
Very nice mod. Seemed a little heavy on the combat side, which does keep you on your toes--you've got to use some time consuming strategerie.
I, being a sucker for romances, would have liked to see the interactions fleshed out a little bit. But, it is a medium role play. You did warn us... (I didn't vote you down on that!)
I like the voicings-gives the mod a bit more charm and personality than those without.
Very nice details on rings, weapons, and armor. It keeps things, um... "fresh" looking. Otherwise, it gets a little stale in the fashion department.
Overall, a good story with a great presentation!

i so stuck, i've gotten all stone/gems and i go to the gold dragon. she summons the drider. but nothing else happens. i waited awhile, sat on the cushion, even talked to both again. it just repeats where she summons the drider. is this a bug or am i supose to do something? the mods good, if i can finish it. i hate ones that dont let me finish.

Couldn't get around the game-breaking bug I mentioned previously and the Mod is just not interesting enough to play over from the start.
Combat moves from impossible to easy in a clunky way, but the henchmen are a big plus and there were some interesting side-quests.

I'm having a bug with the Mod's main quest.
I've returned to Saraband with all 4 Gems, but can not initiate a conversation!
When I left-click on Saraband, nothing. When I open the radial menu on Saraband and click on "Talk To" also nothing. This is a pretty big game-stopper.
Any help?

Posted by Picaro at 2008-08-25 08:55:09    Voted 9.75 on 08/25/08
An excellent and very enjoyable mod. Good story and the henchmen/women are all very interesting individuals which makes replaying with different parties a possibility. Refreshing too to have a new talkset and pretty well voice acted too. I played as Bard/F/RDD and found the combat didn't present any real frustrations depending on the makeup of the party, strategy is essential though as the enemies can be overwhelming if you just rely on rushing them into melee. Great variety of weapons, armour, rings, belts, scrolls etc that should help whatever class that you go with. Also a comprehensive walkthrough that helps you get everything out of the mod if required. My only negative is that the game starts off a bit slowly with a couple of mundane looking quests, but otherwise everything ticks the right boxes, and a deserved HOF.

Thanks for your all your work and time on the mod Gwindor!

Excellent! Best henches ever in a mod! All the dialog is well done and the voice acting adds a lot to the game. Good cut scenes, too. Professionally done. I didn't encounter any bugs or problems.

I played this one a couple of years ago, and just decided to run through it again. This is, in my opinion, one of the most professional looking, well-crafted mods out there. The story is original and well written, the combat is very well balanced, and the voice acting really adds to the game.

I like this module very much, but I agree that there seem to be some strings dangling.

*****SPOILERS************

I read in the documentation that the Romances had been re-worked. Odd, that. I didn't see very much there TO re-work. The PC got one chance to mention his crush, then he was summarily sent away to the city. The next time he sees the ranger girl, she is a prisoner being rescued. If he tries to mention romance, she is too focused on the present situation to have tiem for that sort of thing.

SO where is the romance? At the very end he has a chance to grovel shamelessly. But otherwise, what is there? Besides, i wouldn't trade that cute little halfling rogue girl for three of the ranger :) I don't know how feasible a romance between a half-elven and a hlafling would be, but if I had to pick one, she is the one I would be interested in. She is half the size, but three times the woman that the ranger is. Lol.

Overall, a fine module even if it is a but rough around the edges. Well worth the time spent playing. Thanks.

I for one would like to see this completed in either NWN1 or NWN2! As it stands, it seems unfinished. Sort of like leaving a lot(!) of untied strings.

Please finish it???!!

Gwindor! You're not a ghost! =-)

Firstly, welcome back form your long hiatus.

Secondly, thanks for keeping us apprised about Demon Dominant. I was hoping for a NWN release, but perhaps I should just "break down" and get NWN2. I expect my newish laptop (2 mos. old) should play it... and should it come down to it, and Demon D. is never released, well thanks for Dragon D.! I've never had so much fun with a mod before or since.

Thirdly, perhaps deleting the "LITE" version is not necessary. You may only need to add something like "Frozen at v.x (whichever), current version is v.y (whichever). Many bug fixes not included". Annnnd on the other hand, you could just delete it. At least you have options. ;-)

Finally, well, youre welcome. You made me blush!

Hi, all!
Bless you, DS! Wow, you're like my guardian angel or something!

And thanks, all, for the bug reports and votes and so forth. I may indeed get back to polishing those awesomely valid points in the near future. Cross your fingers.

Should I just delete the LITE version, do you think? It became too much of a hassle to continue to refresh so it is out of date compared with the full version.

When my life when "whoops!" a year ago, Demon Dominant was maybe 1/3 done. I got Threecastles 100% done, Evendim Vale set, the Netherese Ruin sketched out, some intermediate areas made, and had made a good start on Pazunia and Azzagrat (damn! ambitious!) but the Boorish Bard plot and the Woodsman plot weren't started at all. This is all preamble to saying that I don't think it will get done in nwn1 for sure. Maybe nwn2, but I'm involved in a persistent world that's pretty rewarding so the whole sequel idea may have to slide away.

Anyway, THANKS and best regards to all. I hope to comb over some of your comments and bulletproof the mod more, and maybe even enhance things a bit.

Yours,
Gwindor

Help please! SPOILER ALERT

I'm stuck. I got to River City just fine, and got my fire gem stolen appropriately. The problem: I went to look for it off in the crossroads area. Yes, there's the floating text telling me I should visit River City first, but I'd already been there, so I ignored it. And I stumbled on the other three gems. Now my journal says I have all four, but I'm missing the fire gem and can't find it anywhere! I tried to go back toward the beginning (to Twilight camp) but I can only get as far back as the Kobold mine. Where is the fire gem?! I also tried talking to the Gold Dragon to see if it too thought I had all four gems (like my journal does), but my only conversation option was "oops, I dropped one, let me put it in my pack and I'll come talk to you again" (something like that)... where can I get the fire gem?

1. The "Lite" version is a much older version of the game. I think those scripting errors with Mossthistle were fixed in what is the current version of the game (v 16) and is dowlaodable now in the larger .zip/.rar or self-execuatable files. Again, the "Lite" version was frozen several updates ago.
2. You're not supposed to defeat the dragon this early in the game.... look for another way out! =)

Is there a walkthrough for this? I'm playing the lite version and it's good. My henchman, the cleric guy who's the second henchman you meet, has a script problem where he asks if he should leave the party, and it doesn't give me an option to keep him, but he stays anyway. It's popped up like 3 times but it isn't game breaking. Anyway, I'm stuck at the kobold cave with the blue dragon who's way too powerful to beat, but apparently there's something I still need to do in there because I can't continue on to River City.

*** SPOILER ALERT :-D ! ! ! ***

1) Celdor should be " immortal " in some ways, as this character is directly related to a side quest. And with so many spiders around, and Celdor set as an enemy to them, there is no way you could be sure the elf would still be alive when you returned... if you forgot a couple of spiders. I came back to be able to watch the fight which took him down, and only 2 spiders were involved. Pretty weak ranger.
This is the kind of situation that makes me feel uneasy with this module.
2) Along with the Robo traitor's dialogs, which aren't sharp enough, since the common answer as you said to either the truth or lie choice could make you feel you didn't choose the Dragons side, and let you keep playing with the feeling you only tried to trick Robo, but you will end up with the end of the game. If you say I wanna join the Dragons, by choosing the (Truth) option one, the problem is, in your journal it keeps saying the traitor bought your lies!!! You think you're safe... as a tricker, ( the module knows you lied )... but you're not.
3) The Earth Speakers now. I understand your point, but as they offering you to do a quest for them, those passed the 3 " quest " golems should be at least neutral, or the way behind them blocked. If you keep going, everyone turns enemy, even 2 of the former 3 Earth Speakers, and only one of them, I suppose the one you talked to, join even with you in the fight... 'kind of weird.
4) Last, about the long grey hair dwarf, why is that this is actually the only plot character you should ask the same question over and over until you win the WIS check, without even knowing you're maybe just about to launch something! There is nothing in the so short dialog with the dwarf to tell you there might be something going on around this guy... beside what you know from the Earth Speaker conversation. This is the only place in the entire module you have to talk to the guy many times. And nothing at this moment in the shorter dialog ever advise you to ask again. Why would you do it? I got the quest answer on my fifth attempt. Only... I knew the guy was too carefully detailed, too " special " somehow, long grey hair and so on... There was something about him... to investigate. But, at least his second, or even first, answer for instance could offer some hint.
Now about the SPOILERS WARNING, I totally agree with you!
This module I just finished leaves me with a really uneasy feeling. Some is amazing, especially by the end, when you're actually going for the dragons, but it could be sometimes kind of heavy, with hundreds of tiny rooms filled with tones of enemies, very repetitive situations. But I loved some great ideas and many bouncing situations, true surprises which took me most of the time... flat footed. That module would have been amazing ... beside a couple of unclear situations and some heavy repetitive constructions. Which is really understandable talking about such a huge and beautiful module. So, as one of the most intersting modules around, I shall give it a well deserved 10, to push players to give it a go... only knowing it could drive you insane sometimes. :-D
But definitely worth the try. Nice clothing... Good test, all along the way.

Hello, just a few comments that I hope will be helpful:

SPOILER ALERT ! ! !

|
|
|
|
|

Jml: (1)In spider valley, there are no respawns, so killing the spiders should take care of the problem. Ive played this mod through with every class (not including prestige) and Ive never run into this before. It must be very unusual. (2)With the traitor in River City (Robo Mechna) there are 2 dialogue choices and they are both the SAME, saying in essence, that you wish to join the cause of the Blue Dragon Empire. The difference is that one option states that you are telling the truth and want to join the Blue Dragon Empire. That would make the other option lying to deceive the Blue Dragon Empire by default. (3) With regard to the Earth Speakers (elementals), you need to talk with them and pick up a quest. With the completion of the quest they will let you pass (to some pretty decent loot). Which brings us to (4) The long grey hair Dwarf I think you are referring to is in the Dwarven Delving area and is the object of the Earth Speakers quest. Catching him in his deception (requires WIS check, but talking to him enough will finally get him to fess up even with a low WIS) will trigger a fight and get you what they want. Also, please, in the future, if youre going to write about things that give a modules plot away, at the top of your message write SPOILERS or SPOILER ALERT or somesuch. Its a convention the whole community subscribes to and I think would be much appreciated. Thanks! =)

Zedee: I know the small bug you are talking about, but in no way does this break the module. Just use the best greatsword you can find. The Avenger of Ikarion (usually a +4) isnt necessary to the completion of the mod. In fact, I still dont know what the special power of it is (please dont tell me either! ;-) ) Ive never used it. Once the power has been used (4 times I think, maybe 3) it disappears anyway.

HTH!
