Description
OF TIME AND DEATH'S FEAST
if you should fail, then a heavy price will be paid by all... even the dead.
Celain, former Archmage to the City and Cathedral Fortress of Corritan.
Episode 1
The White Tiger
Your uncle Owain "one eye" Jones lost his eye (and his best friend) to a huge tiger, and was lucky to escape with his life, if you believe everything he says. Now he runs The White Tiger Inn, but still regales the patrons with tales of his hunting days. Your uncle was a hero, you're going to be a hero too, and you know how. Some of his old hunting gear is in an unlocked chest in his room ...
What starts out as a simple hunting trip is destined to become a fantasy adventure of epic magnitude. Ancient wars, artefacts of power and beings of immeasurable evil resurface in a new era to challenge the bravest and condemn the rest to slavery, torture and death.
History is about to be rewritten.
About The Module.
I have lost count of how many D+D modules I've written over the years (also RQ, CoC, Traveller... ), but The White Tiger is my first NWN module. It was meant to be around six areas, as a learning process for the toolset. Then I had an idea! As I type this, it is over a hundred areas in two chapters and still has a way to go.
Though it was originally written for a single Fighter or Ranger (new character), any character with a missile weapon can play and that is only important in the introductory part. A character with less hit points might want to start at second level though I have played it starting with a 1st level wizard (not easy but not impossible).
.....
Version History.
V1.2.2: The Saint Cletus Day Update; 26th April 2008
Fixed an issue with a non functional key.
Removed the greater damage reduction belts as they made things far too easy!
A couple of minor cosmetic changes and clarification issues.
V1.2.1: The Saint Endas Day Update; 21st March 2008
Edited all the text in the module.
V1.2: The Saint Boniface Day Update; 14th March 2008
Addressed further issues raised by players and some minor cosmetic improvements.
The Saint Davids Day Update; 1st March 2008
Addressed a number of issues raised by players up to now
For detailed contents of earlier updates please refer to the post for that date.
Requires NWN, SoU, HotU, and CEP2
The folder contains the .mod file, readme file in 3 formats, a versions history and a module map (flowchart) should you get stuck.
I updated it in response to errors or even typos (which I hate). I moved on to PW building some years ago but still look in to make sure no one has found any game breakers. This was my first NwN mod and there are probably some things I would do differently now, but then I would want to use more haks, rebuild all the maps, it would become something else.
I was disappointed with the comments by Mirgalen but having looked around for some of his other reviews it seems he has his way of doing things and if a module doesn't fit then tough on the builder. He has not replied so I don't know what he has missed and can't even offer hints.
Try it yourself, see what you think :)
Best wishes and good gaming to you,

I hope you update the module using the feedback others have provided. _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them.
I'm so sorry you didn't enjoy this, but you really didn't to give a three after so much work, to think that previously I had been disappointed with an eight.
To answer your specific points, did you use a missile weapon in the first few areas? did you use the gradients to allow you to shoot up/down at enemies? There is a great deal of equipment that is not worth collecting unless you really want to, I made everything drop, if they had armour I made it drop, same with weapons, everything was modelled to resemble what they were wearing and carrying but it is not really worth much.
I can't help but think you have missed something important somewhere, have a look at the flow chart thingie enclosed with the documentation just check if there something there that you didn't see.
I wish you better luck with the next mod you play.

Not worth it.
Pros
+ Outstanding visuals and attention to details
+ Intriguing back story (it seems)
Cons
- become quickly boring (one should not have to spend too much time hunting stuff, collecting bits to sell at 1-3 GP. Two hours at most than hit lvl 2 or even 3 and start doing real quest
- I suspect that monsters are respawning, it's more heavy than medium hack n slash and combat balance is an issue (at lvl 1, birds are ok, a wolf is challenging but stuff like owlbear and multiple "fire bugs" can kill even a 20 Con dwarf in a couple of rounds)
- Real quests would be nice to give more depth to the story. I like the one about the missing guy but we don't get to know where to start looking for him. As somebody mentioned it is easy to venture where one (low lvl) should not and get crushed/smashed/eaten by wandering monsters.
Thank you for all the feedback, wow, I'm impressed.
This was my first effort with the toolset and I tried to make it as detailed as any tabletop game hence the reason it took me so long!
I didn't put map pins outside the areas that you would know as a villager, this was a conscious design decision intended to accentuate the feeling of exploring, leaving the safe environment and entering the unknown. I see each map note as a small victory when I'm playing and tend to sprinkle them liberally. The enclosed map was only intended as an aid for those who get stuck.
SPOILERS
The only areas with any number of bedrooms were the Inn (5 single bedrooms and the common room) and the hunter's guild lodges (6 bedrooms each). The Inn may be a little generous for a village and the lodges were intended to accommodate several hunting parties throughout the hunting season.
If you do not change area then the hills outside Ferndale are long and steep and I would possibly do them differently now though slight short-cuts can be made by swapping between the valley sides and the end. They were also a device to promote archery battles between the levels as some of the enemy would have been too much, particularly for non-fighter types.
The stormcrows used to appear every time, I reduced all bar one encounter to appearing only twice (if I recall correctly) after similar comments from other players.
The scripting could have been better, I am no scripter and it was mostly done using Lilac Soul's script generator and was my first use of that wonderful device. As for the +2 weapon from the druid and the girls buying gear this is the first I've heard of it!!! Well done for discovering something that has eluded myself and every other player since it was released :)
I tried to avoid rigid linear plots, though, as you found, some things are best done in some sort of order.
As for the next part, it has all the maps and most of the encounters but it is really just that, a hack and slash fest between the information gathering first mod and the final showdown. Having been criticised for releasing this with a mere 10,000 words of dialogue I was working on using henchfolks and such things but RL got in the way as it has a habit of doing. I am currently working on my own, as yet unreleased, Shards of Heaven PW, Shadow Mountain PW and doing some bits for The Awakening PW. Yes, the Multi-player bug bit me!
Thanks again, I'm so glad you enjoyed it and took the time to come back and vote.

Oh, and I forgot the most important thing: I really hope you do find the time to finish the second part of this mod. I am eager to play it :)

Hi Tyndrel - first of all, I hope you do excuse my choice of username ;)
I just played through this mod and enjoyed it alot, and recommend it to everybody. I believe any kind of playstyle suits it well.
The attention to detail (notably the 'Examine' descriptions, flora placed in caves, the Inn's main area,...) was outstanding. However, some areas, or parts of them, don't have any placeables in them at all. I guess the amount of time spent on 'decorating' areas is the cause of this, which is totally understandable of course.
While the area designs are great overall, there were some minor things I didn't like too much:
-the lack of map pins. I think I ended up placing 20+ map pins in this module for orientation. The map that comes with the download kind of contains spoilers, so it's no substitute.
-some areas were a bit strange (i.e. certain houses contained loads of bedrooms fit for a king, which they really shouldn't according to their description).
-navigating the hill areas was tedious since you had to walk through the entire area in order to reach the points of interest (no shortcuts)
!! SPOILERS below !!
The main reason your module didn't recieve a plain 10 from me is the lack of starting conditionals and similar in a couple of conversations:
-When I recieved Celain's key, I got a journal entry telling me about Sam and his wife - which, at that point, I had not even heard of, let alone met.
-You can tell Sam the same 'news' over and over again: about the White Tiger, about Celain's tower needing somebody to look after the place, and I think there was one more thing which I forgot.
-The uncle and the bard at the Inn keep telling you the same story of the White Tiger, even after you killed it/him, and told everybody about it.
-being curious, I snuck into the basement of the Inn right away (using barbarian stealth...tearing down the door in rage) and discovered the old abbey remains including the zombie portal. However, I couldn't address anybody about this until I found the note on the dead knight in the valley area.
Combat situations were quite interesting in general. There is one notable exception though, due to the game engine restrictions: the dragon in the end is a huge creature and as such he cannot walk on that elevated area in his cave (with that altar thing) - since he has no ranged attacks whatsoever, you can effortlessly kill him off with a ranged weapon - he will be unable to fight back. While you don't have to exploit this, the existance of an easy way to kill what could be considered the end boss spoils the satisfaction of being victorious, for me.
Also, the respawning stormcrows were killed effortlessly on first appearance, and became quite annoying in the course of the mod - with the music changing to battle for nothing etc.
-I thought it was rather strange that you could get a free +2 weapon right at the start of the mod. The druid doesn't even complain when you steal it.
-it's also kind of weird that the daughters of the trader, who are supposed to sell fashion only, buy all kinds of items, including weapons.
Now, due to all that criticism, it might seem that I consider this module garbage, but I really hope it doesn't, because it is great !
Let me list some of the positive aspects :)
-as noted above, the (partial) attention to detail.
-the storyline was very well done, though some conversations lacked conviction.
-the atmosphere was great - again, thanks to all the detail.
-not sure if it's coincidence or not...the layout of the ground floor of the hunter's guild reminded me VERY much of a certain guild in BG2-SoA ;)
-I liked how there was no rigid storyline, i.e. somebody telling you what to do step by step.
-the stories presented via the journals of the White Tiger guy, and that other person in the ancient city's ruins, were fascinating and extremely well written.
-and so much more that makes this module very enjoyable.
-(Spoilers end)-
All in all, this module was great fun ! Thank you very much for making this. Your mod even got me to register, which I was too lazy to do for a long time :P
Nothing good to tell you I'm afraid, sorry. It was looking nice enough but the story side was just not working out. I would like to finish it as so much work has gone in but I'm a bit of a perfectionist so I've stopped working on it for now while I concentrate on a new PW. I'm hoping that some time away will allow me to see things better but I'm not going to hold my breath. _________________________ All the thanks the designer gets is your vote, please use it.

Thanks for your kind words and vote they are much appreciated. I like things to make sense beetles should live in holes :). I try to make things at least appear to have a life outside of being killed by passing adventurers.

This module definitely gets a 10 for me; I like the game-play, and the encounters make more sense than most modules do. (Slight spoiler: when the firebeetles emerge, I *very* much appreciated the placing of a hole in the ground behind them!)
The use of graphics and CEP 2 content is outstanding; and even with playful elements like kittens and butterflies. Thank you - I look forward to more installments.
The only thing I can think of is it has to do with the Dire Tigger, I keep thinkin I wasn't suppose to kill it or something (I know I had to go bk to a previous save when I found the sqautters n didn't talk to them again about keeping where they were at a secret cause when I went bk to give them the pants they were all out to kill me lol)... I didn't harm anyone near or around the village, in fact my characters lawful good I believe so goin on mindless killing sprees aint my style lol. there was another thing that I was wondering about was the horse right before you get to the dire tiggers lair, I wasn't able to save it n when I highlighted it, it was red... I don't know what happened but I'll try n play this again but thank you for the help... _________________________ "Let the Dragon ride again on the winds of time. The Prophecies will be fulfilled. The Dragon is Reborn."
This sounds like a faction problem; if you attack one member of a faction then every other member of that faction will consider you to be an enemy. All the people and animals in the village are commoners and it seems you have managed to upset them somehow. Did you attack any neutral character or animal? If so then do you have an earlier save you can return to? I cant really think of anything else to suggest. I hope you enjoy it other than that.
Happy hunting,
Tyndrel.

Um I did something very very wrong here... I got the whole village pist at me n I don't have a clue as to why... I went bk to town after I did the white tiger quest n they are all on a killing me rampage lol... Do you have a guide or somethin... What did I do or not do? _________________________ "Let the Dragon ride again on the winds of time. The Prophecies will be fulfilled. The Dragon is Reborn."

I hope that all is well with you, Tyndrel, and that the hospital visits have ceased. RL can sometimes get in the way of things, and actually, it's probably good your not setting a schedule (look at poor Andarian! He keeps setting a schedule and misses it! I'm thinking he's gonna be emailing apologies to everyone!). I'll continue to keep my eyes open wide for the next part of this most fun and excellent story! _________________________ Well...who would have thought THAT would happen?

Great opening to what seems like it could be an excellent series. This module felt a lot like the first act of The Aielund Saga in that your character is kind of a no one, but there are hints of something bigger going on. Excellent work. I can't wait to play the next installment.
Hi Eva, Im not going to tie myself to ETAs anymore, I think its worse to say that it will be done by xyz date and then miss it than not to say at all. Ive been at the mercy of circumstances beyond my control and have spent too much time in and out of hospital. So Id prefer to just say that Im still working on it, splitting my building time between that and the PW. As far as progress is concerned the mod keeps growing and currently has somewhere in region of twice as many maps as part one. Ive just installed the first henchie (seeing as folks wanted them). I know that as soon as it is almost ready CEP 2.3 will be released and Ill have to update it all again! Grumble grumble. Nice to hear from you, keep up the good work.
Tyndrel.

So...any ETA on part 2? My AA is eagerly awaiting her next adventure? _________________________ Well...who would have thought THAT would happen?
A ranger is ideal for this but it is playable by any class. I think my favourite was a rogue with a bard level (the start of my favourite AA build).
The detail is probably because I come from a 30+ year P+P background. I like details though some may say I dont know when to stop ;-). Whilst playing round a table it is easy enough to improvise such things but with a computer module it all has to be in place at the time of publication so I erred on the side of caution and gave descriptions to loads of things just in case someone examined them.
Ah... the cow, she has a name you know and is very proud of it! She is Lulu and she only talks to rangers, druids, and characters with animal empathy skill. Its what happens when you are a cow that is raised by a druid!
I have to disagree with you on the dialogue but I guess you would expect me to. The module is described as role-play light but still contains 10,000 words of dialogue and if the reply in that conversation was as you quote it I may agree but it is actually Right, let me have the key and I'll do it now. You must admit thats a bit better than OK!
The early part is meant to be a bit of a sandbox adventure as you pick up clues to the areas history and there is no definitive right or wrong way to go. As regards pointers, it is probably more of my D+D roots coming through but of course there is no DM handy to drop a hint if you miss out an area. There is the module map in the documentation but I will include a walkthrough or hint sheet of some sort in part two.
Thanks for coming back and commenting, your time and thoughtfulness are appreciated. I have to admit to being a little disappointed with the vote, Im not sure that it is really appropriate to apply NwN 2 voting standards to a NwN module. It has long standing voting criteria of its own but not to worry, perhaps youll go vote on all the other mods and drop them down too ;-).
Good gaming too you,
Tyndrel.

This is a Good RANGER module I think. I enjoyed playing through as a ranger , really think that ranger is very suited for this. My habit of Looking at details is paying off.
++ Very beautiful and detailed environment in start, One of the best. I liked the animal heads in inn to small painting, rugs, the wall hanging or what ever its called, to the puny cat. In short Good details.
I liked the public sleeping room in the inn. with chests at the bottom. And what were you thinking when you made the talking cow. During night whatever those light insects are called looked good. Also Liked the greenery at the door of caves or other entrances, made things look more natural.
-- Lacks GOOD dialogues, really need work on that on your next mod. eg. - 'Uncle there is a zombie spawning portal in basement and a guys bones who died of starvation', Uncle- 'OK'.
Lacks the information about where to go. I went to the end of module in N area then I went to E area.
Bad map pointers.
Suggestions - Try to place some effects and dialogues with some hard opponents. Like when someone enters a orc cave and sees a strong orc leader some comment will be good. ALSO try to give some hints on where to go after west area I went to the North all the way to the end to the guard of way and Then to the east area.
In readme try to tell what weapons are going to be available through the game. If you make a mod try to tell that if feats like brew potion , scribe scroll or wand enchantment can be used through the game or not. AND what skills could and will be useful through the game. Also I think game is about 12-15 hours long.

I read your post and was suddenly struck by one of those déjà vu moments... So much so that I had to go and check. Your post is identical to one by baine 2 back in feb 08.
Your copy of the module must date from that time because I removed the ladder in the St Davids day update on the first of March that year. I should also add that I hope you are not too disappointed with the chest. I would recommend downloading the current version as a few more bugs were found and corrected after that.
I hope you enjoy the rest,
Tyndrel.
