Description
This version updates prior releases, hopefully eliminating the intermittent, if infamous, hall bug. It also addresses player concerns for improvements and fixes, especially the city gates bugs. Overall, this takes the original Prelude and expands the story line, adds areas and adventures, gives Aribeth a second suitor (you, please play as a male), and provides a reason a level 1 PC would get a personal invitation to the academy (PC is a U.S. Navy vet). Note: This module has explicit Christian content.
In the event anyone out there is still interested in what is going on: A new version is in hand that is a major re-do but progress is slow and life demands are many. Hopefully the 7/08 release dealt with the various issues. Will look further into the quest-breaking. A general hint is that conversations are primarily auto-fire, rather than click on, once one has their henchie.
After a long absence (have written 4 novels and working on number 5) am working on 'Creatures' again. It is in the same condition as noted earlier, so is being rebuilt area by area. "Aribeth and the Creatures - Beggar's Nest" is actually in test mode, so may well arrive. "Aribeth Betrayed" is showing breakage vulnerabilities as mentioned by players so is in hospital. Ch. 2 and 2E of the OC are also in hand and progressing well. For those of you who are Aribeth fans, her betrayal does not happen. The PC rescues her just before the fatal moment and she rejoins her friends in the battle against Morag.
A further note on "Creatures". The 'core', more like a temple district by two of the famous bridges, is over twice the original size and is an adventuring area in its own right. Not only is it larger but it is redone to be closer to the descriptions of the city in official D&D publications. The other areas, even if not made larger, are also being worked on to try to bring them closer to how they should be. The Christian theme, of course, contines. If you hate Desther, you will be cheered to know he gets a dose of reality in the Sanitorium that leaves him flat on his face. Aribeth is your henchie for the Peninsula, Blacklake, and Docks, while Arianne goes with you in the Beggar's Nest and helps solve the mystery of how the Eye cult could get so many troops in to attack the Academy without being noticed. This has many new areas and the nest itself has had major rebuilding. Won't say who the henchie(s) is/are for the core, but part of the adventure is pursing a plot line in the original form of the game that did not make it into the final release. The things you discover when you investigate odd scripts and conversations...
To be honest and fair, I have no idea when one of the projects will be posted due to time limitations. Am, however, aiming for at least one later this year (2012). _________________________ My dear friend C.S. Wait a moment US Navy vet? In Faerun? Christianity? In Faerun? You know that God would have to have believers or he would die? Hence he is not immortal, so it isn't Christian.
Will definitely play it some time. _________________________ Thanks Rolo:)

One of the best mods out there, I've lost it several times due to hard drive crashes, and it is the first module i am getting after reinstalling. I hope that Poltava finishes the others in the remake. it explains what happens after fenthick walks out of the school at the end of the prelude. and why if they knew a student was sent to protect the creatures, didn't anyone come to protect the student. BTW this works well with the PRC custom classes.
For those who have been asking, 'Aribeth and the Creatures' is in roughly the same condition as the late RMS Titanic. Just about every misfortune that a computer can inflict upon a programme has been inflicted. Am currently in rebuild mode as time and RL permit. It is is any encouragement, the Beggars Nest portion is essentially whole, and could be submitted as a stand alone fragment after polishing. The same may be said for 'Aribeth Betrayed', the re-do of chapter 1E (cure making and Helm's Hold quest). _________________________ My dear friend C.S. Still waiting to go fishing. Any idea when the next update will be? Anxiously waiting for more of your work. Thanks!

Great! I loved it! Way to work stuff together! 9.50. Excellent dialoge 9.50. Very good use of layout, 9.00. But all things considered: The story is the thing! The telling! Yea, I'm a Christian, so do your Christian bashing thing, and show your tollerance. Islams does (not!) Lots of story, plot work, and roleplay was key in important decisions. So, when will "Creatures" be released? Can you give us a heads up...?
OK Poltava, you long haired deck ape. I applaud your work! Thats saying somthing from an old USMC GySgt Grunt. Really looking forward to seeing the rest. God Bless. _________________________ Durned Elf..
Really hope there is more soon!! Anxiously awaiting an addition/sequel to this one. Chomping at the bit here. Please say more is coming soon.

I'm a big Aribeth fan and had some time to play NWN again, so I tried this out. Was skeptical at first, but I absolutely loved it. Didn't have any glitches ('cept I tried to walk past the gate once, but Ari put me in my place. Very funny. :D). The story was very involved and a lot of it made more sense than the bare OC did. The relationships between the PC, Aribeth, Arianne, and Val were great and felt very real. I still like Aribeth the best, but Arianne and Val are close behind.
Speaking of Aribeth, she was gloriously in character. Her temper is very endearing and she is portrayed as a very strong person. I look forward to working with her in "Creatures."

Nice Mod,, I over looked the Bible bits,, as the Mod is great,, Now waiting on the Place Holder to be filled with the next part :p _________________________ Dalethfc
I'm going to try to revert his Mac patch to 1.68 (and make sure he's not using one of my CEP "tweaked" versions of the mod) and see if that takes care of the problem. I'll let y'all know.
The reported conversaion bug (due to a master dialogue for all of Arianne's pre-Neverwiter appearances) has been fixed. Will hold off posting an updated mod for a while to give you all a chance to report more bugs/suggest improvements. _________________________ My dear friend C.S. Gwydion: Will look into the inn bug. Am still tending to test per normal, rather than trying to break things. Looks like time to put 3.6.2 into the toolset... On that area transition, it may well be a Mac thing. I have never had a problem, nor has anyone else. The only thing I know of that will prevent its firing is failure to complete all the dialogues first, and this is a deliberate 'safety' thing. I know nothing about console commands, so can not help. _________________________ My dear friend C.S. Having been an avid fan of Pilgrim's Progress when I was a Christian, I was delighted to see poltava's application of the formula in this module. Even as a non-Christian, I approve of the way he handles his allegorical tale. This module has inspired me to begin working on something similar for those of a more Pagan bent, like myself.
By the way, I'm still fairly early in the game. I'd like to let poltava know that there is a slight bug outside the Wayside Inn. If you try to talk to your companion _before_ going inside and _after_ the normal dialog, the module believes you already have gone into the inn and whisks you away on the "date," making you miss part of the story and leaving the player confused about the passage of time which never occured.
This module caught my eye, so I came back from NWN2 to check it out. I was raised a Christian but am not one currently. Still, I've been finding the module entertaining even though I would have personally preferred the religious references a bit more tongue in cheek (Think the Blues Brothers on their mission). I recommended it to a friend and, unfortunately, he is the one ending up with a technical problem.
We are both using NWN v1.69 and CEP v2.1. Mine is working with no problem. Unlike me, he is using a Mac. On the first transition (the one which seems to be triggered by proximity -- there is no blue transition area), his game crashes.
Since mine works, I figure it to be either a Mac issue or a Mac 1.69 issue. If anyone has any ideas, I'd greatly appreciate it. He loves the concept and would like to continue the game. The only thing I can think of involves using the console commands to "jump" to the next area and bypass that strange first transition.
I know enough to understand the concept, but I have no idea what the mechanics of such are. If it's not a Mac bug, or can't be fixed, could someone help with the console work-around?
Character: Player is free to pick any sort of character class they choose; paladin being 'prefered' only in that such a PC would have a more natural affinity with Aribeth. To provide a pre-made character seems overly restrictive. As for the portrayal in game, only a certain type of person would be selected for the mission, not the 'typical' type. Over the years, I have known several hundred folks (from several countries) who would fit the bill readily, and the church I attend has over 4000 of them.
The OC explicitly states that the PC is an outsider invited to come.
The world change is no stranger that that found in Narnia, which millions of readers over 5 decades have had little or no problem with.
Suggest that you relax and enjoy the game, there is more to it than what you have seen so far. As for the content, the description expressly states its nature; which, by the way, compared to the overwhelming mass of NWN modules (never mind computer games in general), is a tiny percentage. _________________________ My dear friend C.S. Just what we need, Christians demanding the alteration of mere game... ugh. Well, at least its not as bad as all those websites where their saying D&D is the work of the devil.
Okay, I'll sum up my opinion while attempting to be as open-minded as possible.
The storyline is unusual, and its logic involving the character is odder. I'd like to say that being the fellow is human from earth, and that the US military doesn't give its soldiers big suits of metal to wear, its an oddity for the favored class to be paladin. Considering the current path of the game, I'm thinking that usage of an entirely new class would be helpful, and allowing people to download this special character. We must also look at the moral code of 99.999999% earthlings. We are a chaotic neutral race, with anything outside of that rare. I suppose if your in the military long enough, you might be brainwashed into being lawful neutral. Now, I'd expect if our god was sending you as an avatar, he'd act as much as our god normally does as possible.
The god, our god, thee very god that made humans, prefers humans to work on their own only helping them in times of extreme need, rarely intervening on our before. He cares little of us worshipping him, because not only is he a powerful god, he is a god that does not need followers mindlessly following mortal idiots preaching to be loved or cared about (after all we are already grateful we exist).
In short the character should be lawful neutral or neutral good, as it matches the alignments commonly seen on earth. The character is probably along the lines of being a ranger with no divine spells and no animal companion. Next, Ariebth already had you as a suitor after Fenthick died, and considering how much she loved him, the theme of this 'love story' is bizarre.
Finally, I'd like to say the original storyline of the OC was more logical.
You were training at one of Neverwinter's numerous academies when your apparently superior skills attracted the attention of important figures (Aribeth and Nasher).
I mean, being teleported from earth to another dimension, another planet, with completely different laws of physics and reality, combined with being able to instantly be taken seriously by everyone and also gain immediate fame and prestige, sounds kinda... retarded.
Hopefully this gets entertaining. Right now it looks more like some crazy christian extremist is trying to get his whiny voice heard. _________________________ @===============================================@
Vinchenzo made a post here.
Plz check out my entries. I'm currently making a few simple modules, designing 3 special characters, and hope to someday be good this stuff.
This is Vinchenzo, finishing his post with the following advice:
Don't use Latin improperly (Lupis means grey, Rufus is red, Canid is dog, so on.) Furries annoy me with their improper usage of such. And I'm a furry!!! Ugh...
Don't vote for Beta things unless told they are finished, unless posted specifically by the author.
Don't abuse the vote and post function, don't vote for your own/friends stuff just to get a high vote. Don't flame vote either just to be an ass.
There is a voting system for how the points are used, even I forget, but we should follow it (and tattoo it to our forehead, lol)

The revised, and hopefully totally fixed, version has been submitted today. This addresses the known bugs, issues raised, and provides for backtracking to the forest for those who either forgot to see the girls again or declined to help but have a change of heart. _________________________ My dear friend C.S. All bugs appear to have been fixed. Currently doing a slow and methodical run through to make sure everything works this time. No more assusming.
Have also provided for going back to the forest for anyone who has forgotten to take care of things/wants to change their mind and help the girls after all. _________________________ My dear friend C.S. Time for eating some crow, without salt. Have been testing various fixes for problems reported, and been bitten by the mentioned gate bugs. Have found and squished the varments, and looking for more. Also working on a way to get back the the forest from Neverwinter for those who forget about helping Ariel & Nymphe with their problem.
Did not have a problem with the PC not being able to hit the balor, other than being too stupid to hit what he was told to hit. For some reason the AI has the PC go after the swarming little guys, rather than the big brute that is doing all the pounding. Interestingly, female PCs are quicker to respond to targeting instructions and less likely to just stand around watching.
Maybe I should have Nymmphe go to the Academy. That girl cut down everything in sight on two test runs throug that section, and suffered only 12 hit points in damage for the whole lot.
Will continue the hunt for bugs, and get a fixed mod out as soon as I can. _________________________ My dear friend C.S. Sorry for being missing; thanks to a 50 hour work week, 3 writing projects, RL, and loosing my log-in sheet.
To the problems: There is no in game reason to fight Veran until you get the quest from the mayor. The tables were put there to hinder such things. To get him to appear in his lair you must: talk to him in his store before leaving for the mine, let him leave.
To get the main gate to open: speak with gate captain, get shooed (recommend speaking with lady guard - this opens up a new mission later), do the mine quest, speak with gate captain on your return. Second gate: speak with guard. Have never had a problem with either gate in more test runs than I can remember.
The dialogue problem in the cave below the warehouse has been fixed. On Herban's office, battle music kills triggers. I do not know how to kill the music. Wait for it to end.
Current version does restrict to male and good alignment. Do not know how to do other restrictions.
Remember, there is a guide included in the download.
It is increasingly evident the NPC thing needs streamlining, will look at it to see what can be done. I may be assuming too much.
'Creatures' is being rebuilt to eliminate the problems you folks are finding. It was getting way too complex. No idea on release date. _________________________ My dear friend C.S. Finished 3.5 with no problems (forgot to go to the Pink*bleep*cat, again :( ) Tried to d/l 3.6 and got a corrupt archive. The mod file is evidently corrupt. Nevertheless, I loved the mod and am eagerly looking forward to the next chapter.
Loved the game as far as I was able to play it. Could not get through the gate. Managed to talk to guard on the other side of the gate and he thanked me for saving the druid that I couldn't reach. How do I get through the gate? I was given clearance but it was never unlocked for me. If I didn't do anything wrong, will this situation be fixed in an update in the near future?
I played a previous version with a couple classes. The ideal class seems to be ranger. More skills and less armor are a far better background fit (SEALS are survivalist and don't wear platemail) and the magic aspect doesn't really come into play at first level. Rangers are really a form of "divine" class so this (seemed to me) to fit as well. _________________________ "In life, one and one don't make two. One and one make one."

Actually the PC is 56 :) he says this to Arianne in the roadside cave. But I agree with everything else.
And I think it works better if the PC is a fighter not a paldin but that's just my own feeling as he's ex navy and fighter is the cloesst class. _________________________ The Knight Capatin's Rogue: Book 1

Okay suggestion time before I try this module again (although without a walk-through, I'm sure I'll end up like all 4 characters I've played).
First off, I love this plot mod. As a Christian, it's nice to see a D&D game where the Christian influence takes over :) I kind of dislike seeing the pentagram in the other mods (OC, SoU, HotU and other mods) or the use of another language's reference to Satan as Mephistophalies (sp).
Suggestions:
1. Might want to restrict the race character to male (since he is a 65 yr old retired naval officer and supposed to be the 'object' of women's affections.
2. New characters need not be younger that 65 (since plot wise he's that old)
3. MUST be human - seeing as how he's transported from Earth....and we don't have barbarians, elves, half-orc, etc. Now Dwarf I can kinda see....for those that are 'little people' would be believable.
4. Might want to remove a few classes on character's choices (I doubt God would want a Rogue or a Mage (especially Neromancer) as His chosen servant to Faerun.
Just my few thoughts when playing this the last round and actually thinking about my character.
Posted by OfficerDon at 2008-04-15 18:05:10 Voted 8.00
That's really odd. I have know idea why you seem to be having that much truble.
Though as I've said I have noticed that quests can be broken all to eailsy with this mod. All it take is talking to an NPC too soon and screwed quest.
