**SEQUEL NOTES**
If you have plans of playing the sequel, then it is recommended that you download it too before you start playing. This is because you will have an option of running the sequel once you have completed this mod.
The sequel to Calm before the Storm is called "A New Journey Begins" and has been released to the Neverwinter Vault. You can download it here (or simply search for it on the vault): Link
This rar-file contains the module, a read-me file, a walkthrough, a map of a specific labyrinth, a Calm before the Storm Wallpaper ( made by Archon = http://my.opera.com/DarkSunsGlare/blog/ ) and an original artwork created by myself. The module is now at version 1.1.

Nice story, I'm onto the "New Journey":P
Few things to be polished:
- maps form OC in Erik's store
- the sword terra gave me is a longsword, if I was supposed to take proficiencies in longswords, ti could have been stated in the readme, good that sword of evil storm is at least bastard - the one I invested proficiencies into
- 2 typos: Evil Evannia convo: "you're" instead of your, Ending: "titel-screen" _________________________ Thanks Rolo:)

Hello Berra! :)
I started playing this mod a long time ago, but just never finished for some forgotten reason. I was so glad to see you posted a "Remake" and it certainly did not disappoint! I had a great time playing and look forward to starting the sequel tomorrow!
Great job! :)

Upped the score a bit.

Found the way to continue (through akanos tomb).
Funnily enough the 3 remaining opponents were dead easy for my char.
Improved knockdown took care of Akano and the lady,
and the other lady's gift (which I didn't need for akano) took care of the final boss nicely.
No need to change my opinion. A well made pure hack&slash.

Well done hack&slash romp. Akin to jrpg's in feel. No plot worth speaking of.
Very nice visuals and atmospheric music.
Gave up near the end of the tower, after being cornered by the immortal (!) zombies.
I'd have had to start from an earlier save and just couldn't bring myself to do it.

From a mod maker's view, (not that of a reviewer) this was a really fun, immersing module. Loved the music, atmosphere, and characters!

I'm here to take some unfinished business with the voting bit. :)
Sorry I didn't vote before but I have been busy and now I have the time to do it.
Btw thank you for supporting my mod but I've decided to do a different approach with my series instead of being directed entirely into the Chaos Realm. its gonna be set in my own world called NirVass and there will be times where you have to go to Chaos to take care of specific villains.
Plus another main enemy on NirVass who is trying to take over the world for unknown reasons considering he was good king that turned bad.
I'm still working out all the details so players can fully enjoy the rich history of my world. _________________________ Life is but a Dream.

This was a lot of fun. The areas were very well developed, and it was easy to get drawn in. The characters were also well developed.
Loved the plot twists and enjoyed the whole storyline.
The games only point away from perfection was a small handful of spelling errors, but it didn't make the dialogues impossible to understand and did not effect gameplay at all.
Beautifully done!
I have already started playing the second one! _________________________ Stupidity kills people.

See my comments as posted on the "Old version" page. Either way, I enjoyed playing this version as well especially since I was now able to fully complete it. A bit tough in spots but nothing I couldn't handle.

I've been having quite a bit of difficulty getting into mods lately, but this one got me going finally. The only thing I thought was really holding this back was your writing. Normally I could just ignore it, but there were a lot of mistakes.
Still...I really enjoyed it. Your designs are pretty cool, and the overall ease of getting into it helped. :)

I gave a 10 for this also because of factors in this game that gave a good mood to it such the music to the atmosphere. The house and Inn music brought back my childhood memories for some strange reason. =P
The Monsters were quite good and balanced. The equipment was also balanced in order to make it a challenge.
For that you got a 10 from meh. _________________________ Life is but a Dream.
Thank you very much for your generous vote and for liking it so much! :) I agree that the story is a cliché but honestly everyone ... what's not to like about a cliché? It's something that wakes memories in most people since many have experienced a similar experience and can thus indentify themselves in various ways with the story. Like a fairytale. ;)
Yeah, regarding the Viriatus one, I like to put such things behind me pretty quickly and behave like I normally do once I've made my point. :) That's the best way to go, I think. :) And Viriatus, I won't won't get mad on you if you decide to post here again and honestly, I WANT you to post here again as long as you behave yourself. No point in having a grudge about it. I've made my point and I'm satisfied with that. :)

It's been said before, the story seemed a bit cliched, but everything else about this module screams perfect, so I give you a 9.75. And I also laughed at the little confrontation with Viriatus, "YOU have a glitch in your mod, YOU MUST HAVE TRIED TO HURT THE COMMUNITY", and your response, which was well thought out. I didn't laugh until I read the post after that little fight. You went from >:O to =D, pretty quickly. Anyways, great mod! _________________________ Back in action, been out of the community for a while.
Glad you finally got around playing the mod, man! :D Great to hear that you liked it. :) Regarding the game-play flow: I am very glad that you found it so play-able. That is what I try to do with modules. I've played many modules/games that tend to get a bit difficult like for example when you try and find an item/location/character or when the game fails to tell you where the heck you're supposed to be going ... and I guess my slight irritation for such moments have made me to create modules without them. :)
I also always try to create a module in a way that *I* enjoy playing it. If I make the mod fun for myself, then there's most likely a lot of other people that would find it fun as well.

Oh, yea, I forgot to mention one little bug - when you find Jevaj, and go report to Glarin, he gives you the reward and walks away, but if you keep egaging him in conversation, he'll keep giving you exp and gold, until he reaches the door. _________________________ =====================================

This is a pretty nice module, for sure.
The main star of it is, as in any of Berra's module, the gameplay. It flows amazingly and you can never get stuck. The areas are very well sized (except the inn), so you never have to run for half an hour to reach a minor character. The use of lightning and effects was alos very masterful.
The difficulty manages almost always to remain "just right" - when you can win all of the fights withouth counting on natural 20s but also can't win just by charging in. The statues were a really nice addition, though the unavailability of rest was slightly annoying.
The music was great. Reminded me of the wonderful days of playing square\enix RPGs. Thanks.
As for the story and the quests...
====SPOILERS=====
The whole story is linear and not to intuitive, being a slight cliche. I never liked the whole "save the entire world", "light vs. dark", "oh, I am so evil", "ancient prophecy", "we'll all live hapily ever after" type of situations, but that's just me. I'm kinda difficult when it comes to that.
Some of the quests and the dialogs were sorta silly (the whole Mother quest - though I really liked the way you get to end Brognar), but there was a few well made and interesting twists, like with Evannia. The end was to cheery for me, and the main villain failed to look evil, since his only reason to destroy everything was that he was evil. Sounded like a 12 year old with a grudge. But then again, that's only me and my conception of things :). The end fight was made easy with the hellball, but then again, it would have been to difficult without it, so everything is fine there.
=====SPOILERS=====
Overall, it was a very enjoyable module, with a really good feel to it.
I would rate it an 8, but due to the sheer playability and feel, I give it a higher grade.
Oh, and as(s) for Viriatus - don't get worked up because people like him. Besides, you said it yourself - "Being positive is a passion ..."
Thanks for making this sort of stuff, Berra. _________________________ =====================================

First and foremost, it is completely and utterly outrageous to even considering the thought that a module creator would WANT to annoy a player ON PURPOSE with bugs such as these. And even dare stating that a bug (that the author has nothing personally to do with) would be an INSULT TO THE PLAYER?! That's one of the worst insults I've ever heard about on this entire Vault! And trust me, I've been a member of this site since the year 2003, and I've read a lot of things since then. But your ridicilous comment takes the price. It is comments like yours that discourages module builders to continue making modules. If anything in the world would spoil a module, then a comment like that would fit perfectly.
You know what? A module builder makes a module in his/her sparetime with no kind of payment at all except for votes and comments that the builder get from players. I recommend that you THINK before you post any such comments in the future because I promise you, that a comment like that will one day make a module-builder stop making modules. THINK BEFORE YOU ACT. Or else you can count on that free-content like these modules on this site will cease to exist and that way you'll spoil it both for yourself and for everyone else.

Found finally a way to bypass the problem. Using LETO (!) with a save after destroying the altar I could check thet the portal indeed existed in the area. I had to manage to guess how to edit a specific *placeable* (not my character) and making the change in the saved game without breaking it. The portal appearance was set to 3## (I don't remember the exact number, but it seems to be an appearance not supported by the basic NwN) and by changing it to 160 (cyan sparks) it worked, as the "portal" became visible *and useable* at last.
Anyway, it is a serious bug which can spoil the game to many, so it should fixed to avoid it to happen again (by placing a *valid* appearance for the portal in the palette). Also, tagging the areas differently also could help people who does not have advanced knowledge of tools like LETO to bypass these problems (i.e.: with the easier dm commands).
I will change my vote, but the bug and the time used to work-around it have avoided it to be something higher. I will move now to the sequel (let's hope not to find something similar there...)

Hi.
I don't know if this is a bad joke, or what, but the "ending" has annoyed me the most thata any other bad (made) one in the Vault.
What are you supose to do? Stay there like an stupid, while the mod maker laughs at you?
Upon destroying the Storm altar, nothing happens, apart from some visual effects: no portal at all appears.
Upon tring to force (again) its apparition via console commands (dm_runscript), the same again. But worse yet: upon going to the toolset, I see in the palette that the EndPortal exists, but has no image, so it is posible that is being correctly placed, but as an 'etereal' placeable, so you could never use it.
"Well (I thought), let's see waht the teleport(3) script does, and let's go there with the console (dm_moveto area)". But this is outrageous: the final area is labeled 'Area001', the same as Erik's house, so you move here, and not there, making the game impossible to finish.
What are you playing to? Is there some visual (i.e. the portal) from a common override (maybe CEP-related) which you have forgotten to mention that is mandatory for the module to work? Copuld you check this? Or have you, plainly and simply, decided to annoy people who play the mod, spoiling all the fun one could have gotten to the moment (and it is a pity, as it was a good one).
Honestly, I think this is the first time I rate a mod below the minimum points, but I can't take it as a definitive fault in the mod (or as an insult by the maker). In the event of this being possible to be fixed (and the 'double Area001' makes me think that it could be difficult, if not impossible) I could change maybe the rating, but actually (in the current situation) I only can say that this is the most annoying, time-spoiling, and regretfull mod I have ever played.
I would like to think this issue is involuntary, though, but... :(
Great to hear you managed to play it and that you didn't find any new bugs! :) Yeah, the henchmen may feel a bit simple if compared to other work but if you compare the improved henchmen in this version compared with those from the original ... well, you'd get quite I shock I think. :D

Phew, took me a bit longer than i'd hoped. Work sucks, sometimes.
I think there are some nice improvements made in comparision to the original module, and it does have a very decent level of polish. No bugs found, except for the ones already mentioned by Hellix.
It's a solid hack'n'slash module, with a lot of hard but doable fights. Visuals and music are pretty good, though i'm suddenly feeling this urge to play some Final Fantasy again ;) Story, dialogues and henchmen are way too simple for my taste, but since it only advertises "low RP" it doesn't affect my vote.
There are some better hack'n'slash modules out there. To keep a little difference between them and your (still very enjoyable) work, i'll vote 9 points. _________________________ "Duty is everything - the greatest of joys, the deepest of sorrows..."
