With little hope, the heroes search among the blasted ruins of the Five Realms. They shall search out the last secrets of the old world for a scant chance to change the new. Many such secrets reside within the heroes themselves. From here, there is no set path. There are secrets to find, alliances to build and betrayals to be endured. And all the while, Amaryuu glowers down from his throne, horrible in victory, and awaiting the last meager strike against his total triumph.

Disclaimer

Vis et Virtus is not a normal Neverwinter Nights module, nor is it intended to be. It is, by design, a mostly linear adventure with a heavy emphasis on story and character development. It was designed to be a fusion of game genres combining elements from traditional Japanese console RPG games like Final Fantasy, with computer RPGs like NWN, along with devices that are unique to VeV.

If you are looking for a game that uses a non-linear approach with lots of dialogue options through which you can create a character of your choosing, featuring standard NWN systems, I encourage you to look elsewhere. There are plenty of excellent games out there that do an excellent job of this. I would also encourage you to look elsewhere if you don't have the time to allow the story and characters to develop. Like a great novel, the story gets better as it goes, and many questions remain unanswered until later in the series. In the beginning, you will not know the full history of each of the characters nor have a full understanding of their motivations, but over the course of the game these elements will become apparent. Finally, in order to add to the depth of the characters, Vis et Virtus uses pregenerated characters. If you are uninterested in games involving pregenerated characters, please do not waste your time downloading VeV.

If, on the other hand, you are looking for a game with a truly epic story, strategic battles, engaging party members, unique systems and stunning custom content that make you feel like you're playing an entirely different game, you will enjoy Vis et Virtus.

Hey Libita, good to see you again. I wasn't expecting to do another update either, but after I finally got around to playing it myself, I saw some areas for improvement. I would note that this is a MUCH smaller update than v2 and v3. It's mostly bug fixes and little tweaks here and there. The new macro commands are really handy though. I got a little annoyed at the way we did the AI b/c I couldn't change their spell casting or weapons strategies mid battle before this update. The looting systems work way better. I found the old methods of looting maps and identifying items one by one to be a touch tedious. The new boss death sequences are pretty cool, but I only did them for the really big boss fights on the whole. Anyhow, before I ramble on too much more, I just wanted to clarify that this wasn't an all but ground up rebuild the way v2 and v3 were. It's more like fine tuning. Jim

* UPDATE * I have decided to skip uploading VeV version 3.5 and proceed directly to 4.0. Although this will still be a smaller update than 2.0 or 3.0, primarily because the game is in good shape now and requires fewer large changes, there are still major improvements that I'm very excited about in addition to the normal assortment of bug fixes, difficulty adjustments, grammatical corrections, and xp tweaks. To give you an idea of what sort of additions to the game will be made in VeV 4.0 here are my top 4 favorite changes: * Tons of new unique items to be found throughout the game for those who explore. * Enhanced control over your party's AI during combat through additional macro commands. * Additional voice acting. * Cinematic finishes for the major villains.

Hey, I just wanted to let you guys know that I've been working on another update to the VeV series in my scraps of free time. Having finally, after almost 10 years of working on it, played the game myself, I felt that a couple tweaks were in order. This will not be an update anywhere near the scale of versions 2.0 or 3.0, but is large enough to deserve mentioning. This update will have a bunch of bug fixes, polishing touches, difficulty adjustments, and some added easter eggs for those who take the time to explore. I've also moved some xp around to make the level progression more even and added xp to puzzles that were previously missing it. I'm not sure when exactly this will be done, and most of the changes are subtle and would likely go without notice unless one is paying close attention, but I will say that my 'to do' list for the update has gotten fairly short at this point, so it shouldn't be all that long. I know what you mean, I managed to fill up my schedule to the point it's likely to break. I'm glad you finished this one in such a professional manner. The ideas sound promising so far as well - though as a Van Eisen fanboy, my priorities are pretty obvious... Well, don't hesitate to send me a private mail, just in case I miss something. Well, I don't anticipate anything happening for a while simply because life is busy for all of us. Justin (the writer) is in basic training for the JAG, Andrew's getting close to graduating from college, and I'm opening up a martial arts studio this summer. We have talked about directions we would some day like to continue this in the future though. Chances are, any future projects would not be a video game. We've mostly talked about doing either a novel or a comic or MAYBE a video series. We'd like to take the project in a direction that is more widely accessible since not everyone plays video games. I would also note that in addition to a sequel, we've considered doing a prequel detailing the time of the Red Prince. We also have talked about doing a prequel describing Van Eisen's rise to power and some of the characters he's had in his organization over the years like Hanzo. Another option we've discussed is taking the VeV story and writing it up as a novel, again to make it available to a wider audience than the few lingering NWN fans. So long story short, I don't anticipate further works for the NWN platform beyond continuing to support VeV as best I can with my ever busier schedule. I really do like the world we created and would love to do further works with it, but life is in the way at the moment! I'll let you know if/when we decide to do another project. Jim

Ah, okay. Thanks. Didn't mean to simply stroll off, but I'm fighting some personal problems right now. Then: congrats on the Hall of Fame status for the rest of the mods! Oh, and regarding the sequel hook: am I right to assume there is nothing planned as of yet? As an author, I don't expect anything for the next years, but as a fan, there's always a hunger for more. And the name "Studios" could or could not imply regular works. Good to hear from you again, Libita. The VeV prologue met the requirements to enter the NWVault Hall of Fame (2500 downloads and 25 votes averaging 8.0 or better) in February. The rules of the HOF also state that if one module in a series is added to the HOF, then the entire series gets in. Since this was overlooked by mistake when they added the Prologue to the HOF, they decided to wait until the next month to include the rest of the series. Jim
