Description
In an empire where tyranny and censorship reign supreme, history has been relegated to myth, and knowledge of the ancient tomes is subject to trial and execution. Despite the danger, rebels and discontented scholars still search the forgotten places of the world, yearning for even fragments of the forbidden histories.
Celestial Chronicles follows the tale of Serena, a young archaeologist whose journey for the truth takes her from excavated ruins to forgotten isles, and even into visions of the land as it once was before the temptations of magic rent the world asunder. The truth may prove to be more than Serena or her unsuspecting world are prepared to face
This module is intended as a writing and game development submission to Bioware. As such, the mod is story-heavy with rather limited/easy combat.
Any comments and feedback are greatly appreciated!
PS: This submission requires that you place the serenasunfire.bic into your local vault. It was not intended for and will NOT play correctly using any other character.
A low res, visually inferior version of the opening movie. Created using Fraps, Windows Movie Maker, and Bink and Smacker. Edited by the incredibly unartistic MadHenchbot.
This music is not used in Part 1, but is released to anyone interested in what I'm cooking up next. The new .hak already includes these song files, so you can actually go into the editor and test them out if you wish.
Updated: Some tracks removed and many new ones added. Includes a full directory of the new songs.
A higher res, much more visually appealing version of the opening movie. Created using Fraps, FinalCutPro, and Bink and Smacker. Edited by my very talented gf, Karalynn Miller.
Peripherals.zip
Here are all the peripherals that are REQUIRED to play Celestial Chronicles. Recently updated to include new music. Keep in mind that you need the latest version of CEP too!
Celestial Chronicles uses only unique, custom music. (Now with more reasonable volume.) The directory includes a list of the original songs and artists of my edited tracks. I do not claim copyright to any original materials.

Fantastic; definitely a must play. Hope to see the 2nd installment soon.

I sort of liked this, I liked the premise, it made for an engrossing few hours in between cups of tea. This is a Mod that has a lot of potential especially if you make it more adult orientated. Will we see a sequel to this that does this one justice? Some of the combats I found annoying but perfection in life is something that is elusive!

I really liked this module but it's one of the many un-continued great premises. The scripting is beautiful, it feels very smooth and almost novel-like (especially in the flash-back section).
I feel modules like this serve builders now-days more than the player, so I'd suggest this to anyone whom likes great cut scenes and scripting but not for anyone looking to embark on an intense adventure. _________________________ _________________________

This is an interesting little module. It tells the story of a young archaeologist who lives in an ultra-oppressive regime. While archaeologists aren't exactly known for their rebellious nature in most settings, here, historic knowledge is repressed and guarded by the regime. This can place a archaeologists in a precarious spot if they "dig too deep." In this tale, our protagonist uncovers an amazing artifact...but just as she does so, things go horribly wrong.
The story and setting are interesting, and has loads of potential. I wasn't as excited about the execution of the module. Most of this adventure takes the form of a linear escape run, where you battle your way through a series of (fairly repetitive) encounters as you flee. Combat is frequent, but not very challenging. There is a significant part of this module that uses an entirely different setting, which is a cool twist and I won't spoil it (though I will say it had a certain Ressikan feel to it--if you must know, look it up!). But even there, you end up traveling on a long, linear path, battling repetitive encounters once again. There are absolutely some cool moments in this module in which you, as the player, really don't know what is going on (in a good way), and a few characters that are interesting and could be developed a great deal. The custom music is nice, as are some of the scripted cutscenes. But overall, I kind of felt a bit lukewarm toward the mod. I would love to see a more well developed module in the future, however, because the ideas behind the story are terrific. _________________________ My NWN Blog FRW Character Creator

This mod is awesome, especially with its use of music and its main character. A great mix of light Grimdark and Indiana Jones.
My one suggestion would be that you include a Musical credit in the readme.

Sadly luday, yes, yes I am. It's been very slow going, but I have a clear idea where I want to take the story, and about a 50% idea of how to do it. lol. I promise to post an update when I have a chance. Thanks for voting! _________________________ MadHenchbot

Just posting to let everyone know that some musical changes have been implemented. I discovered a lot of songs over the last month or so that I think would fit well with my goals for the sequel, so Peripherals and Music_P2 have been updated accordingly. Feel free to check them out if you're interested. =)
Speaking of Part Two... I've completed work on the smuggling ship, The Envoy, as well as a sprawling rural town called Val Vista. Hopefully all the details will be smoothed out on those areas in the coming weeks... then it's on to making the rest of the Pendar Continent. Gulp.
Wish me luck. _________________________ MadHenchbot

This is a wonderful teaser, leaves one clamoring for more. Very innovative storyline. Hope you keep trudging away on the next installment. Reminds me of the Saturday serials at the movies. Most of you are probably too young to remember those, but they, also, left one coming back for more.

New updates are up! (Believe it or not.) Just when I thought Part One was all squared away, I found about a dozen things that needed fixing. So for those that left comments/suggestions, hope you notice the little details. And if you're new to the mod, I definitely look forward to hearing from you. =)
The music was also updated for reduced volume (around 50%). Guess I got a little carried away with the 'Amplify' button on the last go-round... _________________________ MadHenchbot

Hey guys, thanks so much for the continued feedback!
In response to whuetsi, the smaller size of the movie was a necessary evil. I just found the pixellation too much of an issue to expand the movie to full-screen, and the alternative was creating a file that dwarfed the actual game... (the original was around 20 MB, and still looked fuzzy.) Hope that answers your q. =)
As far as the sequel goes, the storyline is hitting some snags but still drudging forward. I think I get too caught up with technical issues and thinking, "What if I do this?" questions. As it stands, I'm looking at early next year as the earliest possible release date for it. I'll definitely keep you posted as it gets closer to a working model. _________________________ MadHenchbot

Moving soundtrack, atmospheric storytelling, and stunning animations. Enjoyed this mod thoroughly. The opening high-res movie had a very small display though, I was expecting NWN to expand the movie to fit the screen. Maybe I need to set some settings?

This mod was really fun! I liked the fact that Serena had a strong personality. I also enjoyed excavating things.
The only nitpick I have is that I didn't really know what I was supposed to do in the dark lord fight (which went on forever until I finally realized I should probably just drop my healing potions and get it over with). But that probably can't really be helped from a storytelling perspective.
Looking forward to the rest of the story! _________________________ If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar, a hoper, a prayer, a magic-bean-buyer. If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire, for we have some flax-golden tales to spin. Come in! Come in!

Ok, so I recently (well, not so recently, actually) had a major system crash and lost pretty much everything on my computer (installation wise, that is - the files were still there). This mod had me intrigued enough to reinstall NWN and give it a whir ^^
I really liked it, short as it may be. The story was, and still is, most interesting, and I hope you know exactly where you want to take it, since it really seems that way. It promises a lot.
The overall execution of the mod is great. The dialog is well written and implemented, the characters (what we could see of them, anyway) were solid, and the module played out real nice, with no glitches or bugs. At least I didn't run into any.
Seeing a female char who ISN'T dressed in skimpy clothing and DOESN'T act like a tramp is always a good thing. Kudos for that ^^
I also loved the effects - nice and just in the right amount. The body change was also very interesting.
The things that felt a bit of are the wholesale wolf slaughter (I really think that there should be less of them), an archeologist taking down trained grunts (though we don't know much about her past, so I really can't complain about this one) and a couple of kids holding back a dreadlord (though, again, I really can't complain about that either, since it is kinda explained).
The music was good though maybe too loud (or I just forgot my music volume settings from earlier) and it didn't feel quite in tune with the area in the last part (after the awakening).
The only bug I ran into was probably due to my CEP version and the hak folder being a right mess because of the afore-mentioned system crash - some characters didn't have heads. Namely, the commander and the footpads.
Anyway, great mod. Can't wait for the continuation :)
Now I'm off to download/play Torn Asunder ^^ _________________________ =====================================

^- That MadHenchbot guy is a moron. In future updates I'll actually test my fixes to make sure they do what they say they're gonna do. Eesh.
On a positive note, I've added quite a bit more dialogue, and better character interaction between Kay and Rena. Hopefully everything's clean enough so that if somebody from Bioware wanders over... (hint, hint) ...they might actually think I have some potential or something. Lol.
Anyway, if you're new to the mod, or just haven't voted yet, please feel free to leave me some feedback! It's always appreciated. =) _________________________ MadHenchbot

Yikes... This will teach me for getting complacent. On my last run-through, I noticed that if you don't follow Maris after the forest battle, you get ported back to the clearing... with NO ESCAPE! AAAGH.
Anyway, that's taken care of now. The other additions were minor by comparison. Enjoy! _________________________ MadHenchbot

MrGhosh - Basically you just need to fire off a script from the item's OnEquip and OnUnequip events. I figured out the hooded head model numbers from playing around with the character editor.
Here's some sample code:
//================================
object oPC = OBJECT_SELF;
int iRace = GetAppearanceType(oPC);
if (iRace == APPEARANCE_TYPE_HALFLING)
{
if (GetGender(oPC) == GENDER_MALE)
SetCreatureBodyPart(CREATURE_PART_HEAD, 9, oPC);
else
SetCreatureBodyPart(CREATURE_PART_HEAD, 3, oPC);
}
else if (iRace == APPEARANCE_TYPE_HUMAN)
{
if (GetGender(oPC) == GENDER_MALE)
SetCreatureAppearanceType(oPC, APPEARANCE_TYPE_HUMAN_NPC_MALE_04);
else
SetCreatureBodyPart(CREATURE_PART_HEAD, 143, oPC);
}
//================================
Just don't forget to revert their heads back to normal when you're done, lol. _________________________ MadHenchbot

MrGhosh - Fussing with item prices can be tricky. You can use a placeholder item, like "Box of Sword A" for 5000g that transforms into a sword after you buy it, but you'd end up selling it for its original amount again... If you mark the item as Stolen and deeply lower the price merchants will pay for it, that might be another way of getting around the price problem. As for the minimap problem, I'm not sure how to go about it. I know there are a lot of times when I wish I could just disable the thing.
Hope that helps. _________________________ MadHenchbot

I have some questions about mod bulding, I am very new to mod building,
Question Suppose I create an item and I want the game to consider a specified price for it , then what should I do? Like I create an armor whose price game puts as 15000 , but I want the whole game to consider the items price to be 5000 while keeping the rest of the items price unchanged then what to do?
Is there some way to disable the pointer showing our place in the map? _________________________ Neverwinter Balance Patch Balance Patch

This module is ALMOST a MUST HAVE. I can tell this . If people bioware had the same creativity as you SoU on HoU would have been way better.
The Environment is beautiful.
Storyline is engaging.
Very good use of soundtracks.
One question when the main character wore cape she got her face covered. How did you do that?
But one thing I am one of the people who gets really uncomfortable playing as a female character. When roleplaying as an opposite gender I really feel out of place. One of the same reason I played Resident Evil 1 at first , and played it only after going through resident evil 2. I would have given this module 10 (I usually dont give 10)but playing as a girl was really uncomfortable for me, but thats not really your fault.
Hope you can add male charcter option, You can use the same name if it makes change more easy. And may Part two get out soon. _________________________ Neverwinter Balance Patch Balance Patch

While the setting didn't strike me as particularly original and new at first, I admit it's actually all about how a story is told - and in this regard Celestial Chronicles scores high. It's gripping and entertaining, and I'm also really impressed with the attention to detail (like all the NPC and item descriptions). Plus, I couldn't help but marvel at the stunningly beautiful graphics, the cool area design as well as the NPC crafting, that is the accurate accordance of portraits and appearance. I also like the idea of playing an archeologist and that the mod has a certain anime feeling to it. I really hope the series is going to be continued, I'm looking forward to playing Part 2!
I've only got one minor complaint: I didn't quite see the point in putting so many hostile creatures in the mod when the PC doesn't get any xp for fighting them and can't really die anyway (at least I got this impression, I lost consciousness once and was immediately restored). I felt for the most part combat was just slowing the story down. I know you can try to sneak past most of them (and some opponents don't move at all, you might want to check on them), but still... (besides, you don't get xp for bypassing them either, do you?) It would be cool if there were some alternatives, some other things to do between dialogues and cut-scenes than just walking, fighting for no xp and collecting items, something a bit more rewarding. But that's really just a side thought, the mod is still great. Thank you!
