Description
Born into nobility, your adventurous spirit eventually leads you to the arenas of Waycross, an unlikely place for a Lady of the realm. Fame and fortune await in the midst of danger and treachery. Your success in the arena will soon be noticed by a mysterious, secret organization that has need of your talents, but your decision to assist takes you down dark paths.
WARNING: This module contains explicit sexual content. There are times when sexual encounters are played out and animated to their full extent, however, the player has the option to opt out of those situations based on decisions they make in the game. The module also contains full nudity and sexy, fantasy armor. If any of the above offends you then do not play this. This module is for adults only. Do not download or play this unless you are over the age of 18.
FEATURES:
- Custom and unique scripting, particularly in regards to arena contests featuring a no-kill system
- Your win-loss arena stats are recorded by the in-module statistician
- Extensive use of CEP creatures and content
- Nearly 90,000 words of dialogue
- Several possible ending romances
- Fully animated intimate encounters (Warning! Very little is left to the imagination.)
- Custom armor and clothing, some from the community and some of my own design
- You can play as Sierra Westhaven (found on the download page) or you can create your own character.
- Over ten months went into the development of this project.
CREDITS:
I'd like to give special thanks and recognition for the content below, which is not my own:
- The art of Luis Royo and Lorenzo Sperlonga (for Portraits)
- The creators of the Community Expansion Pack.
[Note that the above are included in the gladiatrix hakpak files for ease of setup. Only the CEP needs to be downloaded separately to play this module]
See the Gladiatrix_Readme.txt file for installation, gameplay requirements and tips to enhance your playing experience.
**SOME IMPORTANT PIECES OF ADVICE**
- Never escape out of a conversation
- Save often. Just don't save in the middle of a conversation
- Don't speed quickly through conversations. You could cause an important script to not trigger leaving you stuck in your area
- A fighter type build with a focus on strength is highly recommended. There are a lot of solo arena contests and you will need to build a character that can perform well in those. Two feats I highly recommend by level 4 is Weapon Focus and Weapon Specialization.
These are the weapons that will be available to select from in the upper arenas:
Longsword, Greatsword, Bastard Sword, Katana, dual-wield short swords, 2-bladed sword
I hope you enjoy the adventure!
Don't forget to play Gladiatrix II - In the Shadows of Darkness when you complete Gladiatrix.
You can play as the default character, Sierra Westhaven. Download sierrawesthaven.bic, place in your localvault folder and select her from the premade character screen at module start up.
Gladiatrix module version 1.6
Unzip and place gladiatrix.mod in your modules folder. If you downloaded a previous version make sure you see the 1.6 readme file in the zip to ensure you have the latest version.

@ Skald
I'm going to assuming you've done all the obvious things, like redownload and replace all the required files, and applied v1.69 critical rebuild. also assuming you're running a PC with Windows 7 or 8, you'll probably need to do one of the following:
------------------
1. install the game to your username's document folder(in this case to resolve permission issues). (I've had to do this with fallout 3 & NV and one other game along with option 3)
2. make sure it's not your video driver causing the problem.
we'll just go ahead and make #3 mandatory
3. you may need to set the executable "nwn.exe"(probably wouldn't hurt to set the rest of the executables this way too) via properties in the right-click menu to compatibility mode for XP SP3, and make sure you check the "run as administrator" box as well. I had it running on my laptop which had windows 8 Consumer Preview installed, and I think I might have had to do this option to get it working right.
------------------
I suppose it could also be worth while to turn off the skyboxes, water animation and shiny water in the video options. _________________________ jml's list of community addons/overrides, etc. Link
Hi Skald. There is definitely something going on that is local to your system. Here are some ideas to try.
- Make sure your override folder is empty
- Reinstall the gladiatrix mod and hak files
- Make sure your NWN version is 1.69
- It could be a video card issue. You can try running updates on your video card but do this at your own risk. I can't be held accountable if it causes your system to act up
Do you have an old laptop or PC around? I know I've got 4 or 5 around the house that I never got rid of because they don't resale well. You could try installing on an old system if you have one. Or maybe a relative or friend has a laptop that's 5 to 10 years old you can try? Unfortunately, I think the newer systems become less and less friendly to NWN as time goes on.
Also, I made the module with Neverwinter Nights Diamond. I've had 3 or 4 people tell me that the Apothecary cellar doesn't load for them. That's why I released Gladiatrix V1.6 and took the placeables out of that area. I wonder if there is a version of NWN that was released later that is missing some of the placeable files, such as Neverwinter Nights Complete Edition or an international version. I'd be curious if the nwn edition you are using is causing the problem. _________________________ Fame and fortune await in the midst of treachery and danger in this epic module: Gladiatrix The dark temptations of Nova's Cape threaten to cast a shadow over your soul: Gladiatrix II - In the Shadows of Darkness
Haven't seen this happening to anyone else but I am simply unable to play the module without crashing at the following points:
- entering the private grove
- anytime any animations are triggered
Have cleaned out hak folder, installed CEP like 4 times, even done separate installs of all the other builders you've referenced. Maybe I just need to get a crappier computer?
Would appreciate any ideas because I have really enjoyed the parts I have been able to play up to now...

heh.. good to know. also, I noticed the little play on words in the first conversation with cypher(instead of saying foul, it's written fowl in the conversation) in my last play through, well I'm assuming it was intentional anyway, lol. almost didn't spot it(it was the first time that I had noticed). :) _________________________ jml's list of community addons/overrides, etc. Link

Just finished both modules, and this one is really good. The second is better, in my opinion, but this one is pretty good nonetheless. My notable complaint for this module over the second, is the combat difficulty spikes a little after halfway through the adventure. Not unbeatable, but many reloads were necessary for certain encounters. Other than that keep up the good work - peace!
Yes, Kelvyn is a possible romance although probably the most unlikely one to trigger. The pc would pretty much have to avoid all the advances of the other characters while being receptive to Kelvyn. I have a poll on my blog and 11% of the players ended up with the Kelvyn romance. I was surprised there were that many. Anyway, he'll be making an appearance in G3. I wasn't planning on adding him but I don't want to leave people with a dangling romance that doesn't go anywhere. _________________________ Fame and fortune await in the midst of treachery and danger in this epic module: Gladiatrix The dark temptations of Nova's Cape threaten to cast a shadow over your soul: Gladiatrix II - In the Shadows of Darkness
heh, I just went over the walk through, and noticed a couple things:
------
1. sexton's delight is described as platemail(it's actually chainmail).
*semi-spoilerish, big shocker*
2. didn't know Kevlyn was even a possibility for a romance. the way the dialog was worded, I was certain I had seen the last of him after the encounter at the house. Never even gave him a thought afterword since he pretty much tells you you won't be seeing him again. I always romance Tessa and Kristaly anyway(Landon seems an odd fit), so I simply had no way of knowing. _________________________ jml's list of community addons/overrides, etc. Link
what's this? an update!? guess that means I can't go to bed yet. *clicks the download link* just evil. hmm.. personally I think adding a bed to the warehouse kind of eliminates the need for the waycross home completely. not so sure I would have done that, but I suppose it's helpful for those of us too lazy to run back to the house(I always spawn myself armor of fleetness so I rarely notice the walk). now to go fetch my flash drive so i can move it to my mac. *grumbles* _________________________ jml's list of community addons/overrides, etc. Link

Must say i had forgotten about this modul and only a comment on the Demonheart Blog reminded me of it.
Played through it and enjoyed it.
Texts are well written and the conversations are fun to read but there also is my biggest complain. You use a lot of words / sayings which don't fit in medieval times. Like in the beginning where the guard captain fear what the king would say if he bring the princess home in a body-bag. . .
It just reads oddly but i guess that's personal taste.
One minor point is that i get the feeling during play that the few decisions i make don't influence the game at all or only in picayune ways. But then again that's personal taste again.
The only real bug which i encountered is that sometimes the scrit which saves you during the show fights trigger in real fightes as well and leave you frozen even thought you still had 10-20 HPs left. Kinda annoying but reloading a old save fixed it in most cases.
Overall it is a very neat and well done modul. Worth downloading and playing it.

This module was a lot of fun. I'm going to offer some criticism because I think this very good module is on the cusp of being great. Know that this in no way detracts from my recommendation to other folks to play this module. I had a lot of fun!!!
(Now that I've written all of this, I see I ended up writing an essay. Sorry for the WoT everyone!)
- Character Creation. Okay, I get it - there is absolutely no in-game reason the player character should be anything other than a fighter. Their only trainer is the local guard captain. Any other class doesn't make sense - particularly the magic using classes in what, the dialogue suggests, is a low-magic "realistic" world. But you level at the end of the starter training and the armor you wear in the training (for one EASY fight) is light armor. Either let people play what they want and tell them they have to take one level of fighter at the end of training OR own your restrictions and make them play the SierraWesthaven.bic instead of having to chose between either Sierra or a Sierra clone.
- I ended up using the intended character after my Lvl 1 Rogue got booted on module load. She was a cool, well-designed character, but why does she start out with ranks in Persuade and Intimidate? That tells me as a player that there are Dialogue checks for these skills so I ended up Fighter 8/Rogue 4, figuring that a little rogue makes sense because my bestfriend is a rogue. I think that for most NWN modules, a 4/1 fighter/rogue is a lot more powerful (and more useful to explore non-combat aspects of mods) than a straight fighter but this multiclass only works if you start as a rogue to get the new character skill points. I took a lot of rogue levels to boost my speech stats because the included character had ranks in speech and I didn't see a single speech check in the entire mod! Now I feel like I gimped my Gladiatrix, not that there was a lot of difficulty at the end of the mod despite the first half being well-balanced and difficult.
- Use your starter/training areas to flesh out your custom scenario. I know absolutely nothing about Terra Gaia whereas many dialogues suggest that my character knows lots about it. Add a little backstory to my family. I'm playing a Princess, make me feel like a Princess! Just add a little something to make me feel like leaving home is in any way a hard choice. As it is, just staying home sounds better than becoming a sex toy for the boat guy that'll give me a free ride if I walk around naked the whole time.
- The first sex scene with the stableboy seemed awkward. The dialogue gives you the choice between grabbing your clothes on the shore or searching the bushes - yet there are no bushes. I thought it meant the reeds on the little island. Instead I have to walk back to shore (theoretically, right past my clothes I just chose not to grab in dialogue). Somehow, on the first try, I walked a giant circle around the trigger that spawns the stableboy and I had to download a walkthru to figure out what I was doing wrong.
- OMG So much walking and no boots of speed. Your areas are HUGE and EMPTY. Worse, what's there exists solely for the player. No one lives in Waycross. No one works in Waycross. Waycross exists solely to watch me fight in the Arena. Toss in some more sidequests. One of my favorite parts of ADWR is walking around Betancuria and shopping or exploring or talking to people. Sure, nearly every building in Betancuria also deals with a quest with the Princess somehow (that often trigger at later points in the module), but since there's so much to do it never feels like Betancuria exists solely to further the quests of the Princess. Just a few extra attractions like clothing vendors and a handful of sidequests could blow up your 10 hour module into a 30 hour module by encouraging the player to explore.
- Make the character feel overwhelmed when she gets to Waycross. Maybe it's my overactive imagination, but I think the mood of the module would be better served by making the player feel helpless so that when the character eventually conquers the Arena the player has a greater sense of accomplishment. Make the player feel like their only options are to duke it out in a dirt pit in the basement of a sleazy bar or that they have to strip or mudwrestle to make money. Lose the whole "benefactor" thing until later in the module when you finally establish yourself and make it to the Arena. I used to box IRL and you never made any money fighting because you're always paying for ringtime or your cutman. Maybe do away with rest completely and make the player rely entirely upon magical healing or slowly resting for your CON bonus worth of healing every 8 hours (while paying 10gp a day to rent the room, etc).
- The first half of the module is really well-balanced and the second half is incredibly imba once everyone is throwing magic and cash at you. There's a huge exploit where you can sell all of your team's equipment and every mission they respawn with their equipment again. I think I sold that stupid CLW 1/d harp 4 times LOL. I sold all the ranger's crap too, knowing that he would magically reappear with more uber magic crap next mission. Surprise! It worked! The counter of this bug (and how I discovered it) is when I put stuff on my teammates in one mission, they lose it for the next (I want my Ring +3 back Tessa!). Keep the "henchmen" version intact with an intact inventory in the Warehouse and if you need the NPC somewhere else (the bard as the announcer, etc) then just spawn a new one.
- You can cheat in the marathon by running straight to the end and waiting for Katani to finish and then running the marathon your self and picking up the stone.
- I understand the item strip script in the Arena due to the nature of the Gladiator contests, but why is it on the entry door? Put it in the dialogue with the Arena master. Put a chest in the Arena so I can dump stuff instead of having my potions magically disappear or making me hike it back across the Big Empty yet another time to ditch it in my house or the warehouse. My lazy butt just dropped my potions on the steps of the Arena since Waycross exists solely for me and I never worried that someone would wander across and grab my stuff.
- Give the player more control over the stuff they use in the Arena. Maybe create a dressing room where the player can get outfitted with Arena approved stuff. A Dex Monkey might not want to wear half-plate. Give cash bonuses the less she wears to reinforce the "you're just a pretty piece of meat" theme the module seems to be going for.
- You can take the Ring of Nine Lives into the Arena (essentially making 15-0 not only possible, but pretty easy).
- More interactions with other gladiators. The early fights had them. The end of the module seemed rushed. Subquests involving these gladiators that makes whooping them in the Arena that much more satisfying. Put Tessa in your room to talk to about your most recent fight so you have a reason other than just healing to walk back and forth between the pits and your room.
- I think you have the core backbone of some truly deep character interactions, especially with Tessa. You went to school together. Maybe you have to slug it out together in a rougher early Arena career. I imagined that she was your best friend which could evolve into an incredibly stirring romance with some more character interaction. She could also provide a more compelling hook to get involved with the Shroud. Maybe Tessa tanks in the gladiator fights and gets involved with the Shroud, bringing you in as an alternative to stripping or mudwrestling to get by?
- As it is, the Tessa and the Bard romances are essentially identical - even coming down to having the exact same dialogue in the Lover's Retreat. The whole romance hook is really facile - essentially whoever you choose to room with is your new lifemate. COME ON! Tessa deserves better than this! The good news is: there's a lot to work with here. She's your best friend - would sex spoil your friendship? What about the Bard who willing risks her job to save your life in the Labyrinth? The whole "I have feelings for you" the way it plays out makes me grind my teeth. When a chick I'm FWB with springs this crap on me IRL is when I stop answering her phone calls.
- WORST. ORGY. EVER. I exist in life for greater purpose than sucking Landon's*bleep* and getting man-handled. Come on! Throw some choices in there. You have three tough chicks, any of whom could probably whoop weenie Landon one-on-one, Spanish-Fly laced massage oil, and you're just toys for him to ride around on while the non-participants silently watch on? If you wanna do an orgy in your module, then go all out! Maybe the mod-designer gets off on being a bottom? I prefer to be on top!
- I ended up picking Krystal and the last fight with Katani was painful requiring about 10 save and reloads. This wasn't because Krystal was underpowered or ill-equipped - we could win the fight easily - but because when she got hurt she kept using CMW to heal instead of the heal potions and dying even though I toggled spell-casting off and had her melee only. Eventually I worked around by having her Heal Me until she was out of spells so she would use her potions to heal instead of her crappy spells. I appreciate modders that design around real character death but the whole NPC death = game over doesn't add anything other than frustration to the module. I'm naked with a crossbow and when we kill one of Katani's henchmen I can't pick up a knife off their body? I shoulda just gibbed Krystal's gear and tanked myself instead of playing the way the module intended where she saves me.
- This module is REALLY linear. I'm okay with this - your story is great, but the linearity of the module is reinforced by a lack of dialogue options or meaningful choices within the mod. I know there's an option to skip a fight because the animals were mistreated and that's interesting, but the vast vast majority of dialogue has at most, two responses, usually "Coherent" and "Stupid", or "Normal" and "Skanky", or "Boring" and "Funny". An interesting thing that this module has going for it is that the main quest actually feels like a sidequest and that's kinda cool. I was in the player mindset that I was going to fight in the Arena. This Shroud stuff is just on the side. It wasn't until near the end of the module that I realized that the Shroud stuff was actually the main quest and that was a cool little twist.
- Lose the F-Bomb and the S-word. Maybe it's just me, but it's jarring to see this in a module. The F-Bomb was invented in 17th Century Holland. It's your setting - invent your own curse words! It'll add more to the depth of the module.

So THAT"S why mod builders place these restrictions as opposed to those where you can enter with any character.
As a Mac user, I don't have the toolset so I wouldn't understand this type of stuff. _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them.
@Steve.
The game starts with all items removed from the character and she is given a few starting items. This is by design. You won't be able to bring items from another module.
The character really has to start as a level 1, human female fighter. I've made a lot of custom armor and clothing that are restricted to females and don't have a male counterpart design. That could be your problem. Also, the sex animations will only work with a human female PC, so the game will probably break on those if you are using something else.
I also think that starting with a level 40 character could be troublesome. There are encounters where you aren't supposed to be able to kill your opponent, but only damage them to a point. A level 40 will likely be killing everything with one swipe. Plus, that would be extremely boring and no sense of challenge.
I really recommend trying the game as it is designed. A human female is a must. If you verify that the game is working properly as a level 1 female fighter then you can try hacking the module with a different level character if you must. You would have to do this at your own risk though. _________________________ Fame and fortune await in the midst of treachery and danger in this epic module: Gladiatrix The dark temptations of Nova's Cape threaten to cast a shadow over your soul: Gladiatrix II - In the Shadows of Darkness

Well, it is true that Mac system is still being updated so perhaps updated software is causing the conflict.
I also wondered if being a level 40 man caused the problem as well: you CAN do this. At the start when it says the restrictions are required, start walking out the door for the first dialogue box and you can continue the game until this error with the clothes which seem to be female only? _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them.

The problem with neverwinter nights were causing by neverwinter, not the mod
Posted by lesommer at 2013-03-13 06:00:10 Voted 10.00 on 03/13/13
I give a 10.
I finished the mod using the character provided by the author using her roadmap for the leveling (warrior specialized in katana to be weapon master)
I had bugs with neverwinter nights 1 on a powerful windows 7 64 machine (problems with saving mostly).
I don't like the limited resting. I used to rest between fights. The power ring that I had in the last fight make thing easier.
I like the npc, the thief shadow dancer, the bard, the ranger. They make me wanted to play such characters. I usualy play a sorcerers in this game. It is too bad that the ranger didn't summon his pet.
The fights were well design. I had no problems with the npc except some hard fights where I had to reload. The fights in the inn and the pits were hards because I used a sword. It was easier in the coliseum where I used a shield and a katana.
The walkthrought was very good.
The author do a very good job desiging the clothes, the body of the npc and the sex scenes considering that neverwinter night 1 is an old game.
I play the second part and wait for the third. I am sorry for the crash.
Perhaps, the author will make a mod for neverwinter nights 2 who is better than neverwinter nigths 1.

To extract the portraits go to NWN\Utils\nwhak.exe
Open gladiatrix2.hak in your hak folder. Right-click all the files that begin with po_ and export. You can put these files in your portraits folder and they should be selectable as player portraits. _________________________ Fame and fortune await in the midst of treachery and danger in this epic module: Gladiatrix The dark temptations of Nova's Cape threaten to cast a shadow over your soul: Gladiatrix II - In the Shadows of Darkness
@Steve
Does that happen every time? There is something going on that is local to your system because no one else has ever reported it. Possibly something in your override folder or conflicting hak files. There are clothes change scripts that are throughout the whole module and it would be impossible to remove them all without breaking the module. I'd be surprised if you aren't having problems with other modules as well. Here are my recommendations depending on how far you want to go to try and solve the problem from easiest to hardest.
- Make sure you have the latest version of NWN 1.69
- Empty your override folder and put those files somewhere else. I'm leaning towards this being the problem.
- Clear your hak directory of all files except for the Gladiatrix and CEP files. The readme has the list of hak files needed to play the module.
- Re-download the Gladiatrix hak files and module
- re-download the CEP files
- Try the game on a PC or laptop. It works on ten year old systems and older systems are cheap.
I hope this helps. _________________________ Fame and fortune await in the midst of treachery and danger in this epic module: Gladiatrix The dark temptations of Nova's Cape threaten to cast a shadow over your soul: Gladiatrix II - In the Shadows of Darkness
