Description
Darkness Enthralled Part 1: Back Tracking

"After awakening in a field surrounded by bodies, you struggle to regain your memories and understand what exactly happened to you the night prior. Plagued by odd nightmares and unexplainable coincidences, you begin to realize there is something sinister at work here. The town of Darren offers you a safe haven and a chance to take back what's yours from the Darkness that Enthralls around you."

FEATURES:

- A huge focus on environment and atmosphere in 70 areas. I didn't stop working on an area until I felt it met my highest expectations.
- Extensive use of CEP to help make unique creatures, items, and placeables like you've never seen.
- 35 unique side quests, most of which chain multiple times.
- 15,700 words of dialogue make up an unsuspectingly dramatic story with twists and turns that holds you in tight.
- Creativity you won't see in any other series.

REQUIREMENTS:

- CEP 2.3/2.4
- Community Music Pack
(CMP_hak.zip, CMP_v1.0.A.zip, and CMP_v1.0.C.zip required. DO NOT USE .hak included in CMP_v1.0.A.zip!)
- Fresh level 1 character.

PLAYER'S NOTES:

- This module is very placeable heavy, some lower end computers may have trouble loading certain areas.
- Although there is a bleeding system, death is PERMANENT, save OFTEN.
- Rest requires an inn room or a tent kit. I did this to discourage people finding the closest free bed and continually go there rather than an inn.
- There are no henchmen with exception to certain sections of the modules. This module focuses on your character.
- This module REQUIRES a fresh level 1 character, scripts won't fire correctly if you tamper with XP.
- If you use a camera mod, I discourage having the camera extended out all the way before area transitioning. I've had crashes.
- This series is meant for a certain breed of NWN player. One that can enjoy roleplaying and take a second to look around at the details. There is plenty of combat but heavy hack-n-slash types may find it boring.

PERSONAL NOTE:

I put a LOT of work into the beginning of this series and truly only want it to bring some kind of enjoyment into your life. If you enjoyed it, hated it, or thought it was okay, please comment here so at least I know there was more than some non-emotional cyborg race downloading my module. o.o I expect there to be some bugs or issues, and I will try to update them as much as possible, but I won't have nearly as much time to dedicate for the next couple of months. This also played a hand in the time I wish I had to develop this module. I got it to a point I could be proud of but there still maybe some small mistakes (including spelling and loading screens). I just didn't have enough time to test and test and test. I apologize if this hinders anyone's experience. With this said, I do think a lot of people will enjoy playing what I've created, and I personally thank you for the download.

UPDATED:

(5/1/12)
- Fixed issue with Cave door, weird henchmen bug, Vald conversation after finishing the Nora section, and other bugs.
(4/29/12)
- Large update, fixes all plot critical quests and known issues as of this date. Extensive but not complete change log included in download.
(4/27/12)
- Fixed a number of issues, extensive change log will be available soon.

IMPORTANT:

If you are experiencing the bug of not having certain NPC's appearing hostile when they need to be, you can do the follow if you don't wish to wait for the patched module:
- Pause the game. Hit ~ and type DebugMode 1, hit enter.
- Hit ~ and type dm_setfactionenemy, select the NPC.
- Hit ~ and type DebugMode 0.
This is only a TEMPORARY fix. Waiting for the patched module is recommended as this quick-fix hasn't been tested.

(answering my own post again) Ok, I figured it out. I had visited the place he was being held before I was given the quest, so I guess a script didn't fire. Speaking of quests, I am supposed to bring back a "Shay Root" to the Coroner, but it was destroyed (by lightning) during the Satyr battle. Is there any way to find another somewhere, or perhaps spawn one in? Hoping to get a reply!

I have another question for anyone who's played a little further: **Spoilers Below** . . . . . I have found Tarv's Journal and I'm supposed to bring it to his brother somewhere, but I can't remember where to find him! A small hint would be appreciated. Oh, and speaking of Tarv, I actually found him (alive!) but cannot interact with him at all, he won't speak to me when I click him. . . . . **End Spoilers** Thanks in advance!

(answering my own post in case it helps others) I met a very "cool" NPC, and he was nice enough to donate his Ice Dagger(+3) to my cause. That did the trick, and my hat's off to Garford! :)

Hi folks! I'm having fun playing this mod so far, but I have a question: What do you need in order to damage Garford in the mausoleum? I seem to only land 1 out of every 10 blows, and by that time I'm a puddle. (Playing lvl5 Paladin with Lightning Sword, if that helps.) Thanks in advance!

@OfficerDon... You will need to get as close to the Captain?s door as you can. Move your camera to TOP DOWN and click on the Capt. That SHOULD initiate the required dialogue with him. I managed to have him on the far side of his desk and still got the dialogue going. ****SOME SPOILERS FOLLOW**** A couple of comments before I give my ?2-bits?. Firstly, the game is called Back Tracking for a reason. So you might as well get used to it. Most of the stuff going on are interconnected and related to the Storyline. Secondly, until the Builder gets an update uploaded, the Transition Triggers will need some getting used to. As will the dialogue ingame where your PC?s name is always used. BUILDER?S CHOICE. ?Sides, I DID ask. Now then... Aside from what I said above, it was truly a great romp. It did take a bit before I got used to the method used to Transition Area to Area [the first time I genuinely thought my character got his butt hit with a massive spell until the transition fired]. But afterwards... okay then, moving along. Area Maps: WELL done and thought out. About the only thing I couldn?t get over was the method used to name the various items. From the critters to the chairs. This could stand a bit of rethinking on the Builder?s part. Oh, don?t bother with the critters even if running with a Ranger Class. They?ll not bother you except to stop and face you. One or two of the area maps did seem to be a tad overcrowded and it did take me a while to get my character unstuck. Quests: There?s one Main storyline and several sides. Most of them are interrelated AND connected to the Storyline so you are going to need to do many, if not ALL. The Storyline will NOT let you advance until you meet certain requirements. Level being the biggest one. Doors, etc: Most of the shops etc are ?9 to 5? so don?t expect anything to be open late at night except the Barracks and the Inn. Many areas will NOT let you in unless you?ve gotten the particular quest. Just make a note and carry on. There?s a single merchant, near the Dock Entrance, that seems to be open 24/7. He?s got good gear and also has a long-ish quest. As you travel, when you find a door or area you can?t get in, make a note of and keep going. It MAY or MAY NOT open later via a key or trigger. Loot, gold: The gold drops could be better, so as you find sellable stuff, do so. As you advance in level so does the difficulty. So the better weapons etc the better off. Healing: There are two temples in town. One has a healing freebee and the other will sell potions. WARNING: As noted in the Description above, Death is PERMENENT. Period. So SAVE. Often. I?d actually suggest doing so as you enter new areas. Class and Alignment: As noted, Casters will have a hard go. I ran with a Rogue and kept her at that. But whichever class you opt for, if you can lace points in Open Lock and Disarm Traps. You?ll need that at various points. Don?t bother with an EVIL alignment. You will not be playing to it. So simply put... DON?T waste the effort. The game IS catering to GOOD. You will, however, at certain points along the way, be given an option. Stealing doesn?t seem to hurt you though as the NPCs don?t seem to react. Journal: READ it. It?s there for you. So if you?re running with a couple of quests at once, you?ll know where you?re at with them. Grammar/Spelling: You?ll see some things but never mind them. They won?t detract from gameplay. Overall: As I said, not a bad game, I did enjoy myself and I think if you give this a go, it?ll give the Builder the incentive to fix the problems here and get the next part out for us. ENJOY!!

Yep I've done everything for the Saint Alexis temple at least as far as I'm aware. Got the light thingy in the temple working anyway. I'll try talking to the captain through the door and see what happens. _________________________ The Knight Capatin's Rogue: Book 1 A Male Knight Captain/Neeshka Romance/Adventure A NWN2 OC Fiction

What section of The Meeting? You may be at the stage to meet him in Luxhold, not the barracks. If you haven't completed the quests for Saint Alexis you'll need to do that first. If you've done all this and can't get to Captain Vald, this is bug. I haven't experienced that bug myself but let me know if that's whats going on. If need be, you can actually speak to the Captain through the door when he wanders close enough to it. _________________________ _________________________ Darkness Enthralled, a unique creative NWN series being developed in 2012. Gruble, now I can't get into see the guard captain to trigger the next main story quest. I only have two active quests, The Meeting and A thurst for litriture. I'm also about 1500xp short of level 8. I've been in all the areas I can and all the beasties are dead. Now I'm tiddling my thumbs. _________________________ The Knight Capatin's Rogue: Book 1 A Male Knight Captain/Neeshka Romance/Adventure A NWN2 OC Fiction
