This utility gives users an easy-to-use interface for combining HAK files. It also provides functionality for editing HAK files individually, allowing users to add/remove files contained within them. UPDATE 1.3: In this version I re-evaluated some of the code used to combine the HAK files. The result is that you should now be able to combine larger files. Keep in mind that some files will still be too large to store in memory and may crash the program. I also added some buttons for manipulating the lists, as well as the ability to drag HAK files directly onto the main page.
ya know what would make this even better....if it compared the two haks and gave you a list of conflicting resources and kept the two column format so you could simply uncheck the ones you wanted overwritten

This is a wonderful little utility which makes life easier for the likes of us who have no idea how hak paks work. I will use it to combine several small haks into a bigger one so that anyone downloading my module just needs to do it once. Great stuff.

You know, the easiest (and cleanest) way to combine haks is to EXPORT everything into its own subfolders, then combine everything into 1 master folder. Don't overwrite anything, combine your 2da files into new ones, add them to the final folder, and rename/correct naming in 2da for the straglers. Solves all your problems, and If _I_ can do it, anyone can
This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 32 that made this score of 8.17 then rounded to 8.

I used this to combine 11 diff haks into one. Tseramed its pretty simple, combine in pairs, then combine the pairs, cuts down on the overlapped files as well, gives me the chance to really tear up a set of haks without all the hassle of extracting them and manually importing one... file... at... a... time..... I think this is probably the best tool out to date. Now we just need an automatic 2da splicer so I can stop editing things by hand... *shrug*

The greatest utility in the world... and it is not QUITE useful. I don't care about combining two HAK files. I care about combining 'n' HAK files. What I want is to open HAK#1 and then be able to add whatever I want from HAK#2 to it. Then I want to pick another HAK#2 and do the same thing. And again and so on. Now THAT would be useful.

Very useful tool. Thanks.

Here's an idea: make the compiler so that duplicate files
automatiacly get overwritten, rather than going through
every part to find the copy

Just a thought, could you make it so that files with the
same name are highlighted when the error files with same
names happens.

how about a readme file with the 2da's how too im breaking
my head against the keyboard trying to combine haks and

Alisondre, combining haks (including 2da's) is very easy.
But it takes a while. If you're combining tilesets or
something then its gonna take AGES! You have to export all
the tileset then add it to the other hak (most tilesets
have around 800 files!!!!).

I'll work on it some more Nizidramanii't.
My plan is to actually put together a studio for editing
HAK files and 2DAs. I make no promises, but it should allow
you to combine and manipulate 2DAs.
In my own testing, I was able to combine a 280 meg HAK with
a 28 meg HAK. It still used 100 meg worth of RAM, however I
have 512 meg installed so it wasn't really an issue for me.
If any of you want to give me specific examples where a
combine caused a read error, along with the amount of
physical memory you have, I'll take a look at it. If I
determine that something can be done to fix it, I'll
release a new version.

I was hoping that upgrading to 1.3 would eliminate the
stream read error I get when I combine a large hak ... no
such luck - I'm bumed.

Nice utility! Very handy, I concur with Ulef A combine 2da
feature would simplify alot, for that matter a feature that
would combine any files that are deemed to be of the same
file names. So combining anyone hak to another would have
no barrier. If it is possible.

I new to the hak combining, do you need a program to
combine any erf. that the two haks require? Is there a link
to a turtorial on hak combining? or a basic readme.
Posted by Ulef ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-11-05 20:24:00
Nice utility. One thing though: I know this would be
EXTREMLY hard or maybe even impossible (dunno). Would it
be possible that the .2da files would get combined also?
It would just save lots of time.
Thanks

Yes, Lord of the Beans. You can combine the product of one
combine with another.

Can I combine the product of one combine with another
hakpak, essentially making it a combine of 3,4,5+ hakpaks?

Oncerain,
Unfortunately, you will have to manually edit duplicate
files, like the appearance.2da. I don't know how to do this
myself, but I'm sure you can find out how on the Bioware
forums.
If you use my utility, you can combine all files except for
the appearance.2da. Then, manually edit the appearance.2da
and inject the finished file using the HAK Doctor portion
of my utility.

All you need to do is right click in the window with the
file listing and there is:
Select All
Unselect All
Toggle Selection
Easy as pie. :D
This little program has made my life so much easier. Well
done and thank you!

Great tool. I have to make one little complaint (which
has been made before) though: A select all or the ability
to highlight sections and select that section would be a
life saver. 100's of selections can take forever, and
give you real wrist strain. I'm not trying to sound like
a know-it-all, but if (on the really off chance) you wrote
this in VB or C++ it is pretty easy to set up the
selection boxes to support multiple selections at a time.
Anyway, thanks for the cool tool!

If the message your getting when you try to play is
something to the effect of hakpak not found, it's because
the filename is too long. If you shorten the name it
should work.

I tried your file and it worked. But when I combine haks
it still doesn't work. The comdined haks I download from
here work but not when I do it myself.

I was combining the the master sword hak and hyrule sheild
hak.
