First let me say - Great tool.

I too would like to see this updated to accomodate the latest nwn verions.

Is this going to be done? If not, are you / will you share your source files so that we can make the changes?

Thanks

Another downside, it only works for windows servers *crys*

Wonderful app. Just a couple nit picky things that were mostly already pointed out...

Level Limits: Restricted to level 20 on the chooser, would be nice to be able to select up to 40.

Module listings: Don't work if you have too many files on the server. Not difficult to work around (just delete some modules) but those of us who are module junkies love to have tons of them laying around.

Start as a service: This would be great to have running as a service on a server. That way in case of a power outage your server would come back online without having to physically log into the server and click the app to get it going.

Great utility, however, you need to add the ability to set max levels at 40. I would love to use this utility but all of my friends are above level 20 so I can not have the DM's using this to start servers as it will restrict most of our guests. Anywho, great start!

This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 10 that made this score of 8.50 then rounded to 9.

Will there be an updated version to reflect 1.59 soon? Mostly interested in the allow lvls to 40.

Server Admin Password if memory serves was never fully implemented...my understanding was that had Bioware finished it's implementation odds are something like RAT may never have had to be written. I guess a 3rd interface in Neverwinter would have been included to allow you to admin someone's server after linking it through Gamespy for example...this is all conjecture as I mentioned it's my memory we're going off of.

Posted by Josiah ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-10-15 22:50:00
I downloaded this because I thought it was going to give my DM's the Boot&Ban ability and perhaps the ability to restart the server with the exact same settings at the push of a button, instead, it would give them abilities I never wanted them to have, like the ability to choose the Module and what have you.

I'm sorry, I really dont mean to trash talk a program that I'm sure you spent a good amount of time writing, but does anyone have any suggestions.

P.S. does anyone know what that "Server Admin Password" does in the NWN Dedicated server application, I have'nt found a use for it anywhere on the net.

Posted by Merentha ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-10-10 14:10:00
ROFL, I answered my own question kindof...at least if the server box in question is a W2k server you can just logon with multiple terminal sessions and run RAT Server under one and various other server monitors or RAT servers under the other terminal sessions :)

Posted by Merentha ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-10-10 13:23:00
This program is very cool, but I can't seem to get it to handle multiple servers running on my single box. Is there a way to do this? I've tried getting one server to run with this and the others to run with NWMan or NWNProcMon, but the RAT if started afterwards will grab one of the existing servers and hose everything up! Aside from that it's awesome :)

MANDOS! Hey can't you just go ahead and use the command line switch -port 5122 ??? I run 5 copies of server this way and the ports MUST be correct or poeple would be sent all over heck! Just a though good luck.

Awesome program! My persitant world appreciates this ability. Only question is, any word on the next version coming out? The one where it will reload last module loaded? That added feature, in my opinion, is all this puppy needs to be perfect. Thanks for a great product!

Great piece of gear - a lifesaver!

I have one beef/request so far - my nwplayer.ini specifies port 5121 (I have two boxes each running a server behind the same firewall, one on 5121 and one 5122). But RAT starts up my first server with 5122 so I end up with two servers on 5121! Is there a way in the default setting to specicy the port, like you do "-module " could you put in a space and then "p-port 5121" ?

Ohh and also the possibillity to write server messages with the Rat Client would be good, and the ability to kick, ban, boot players, all in all it could be good if all the features which are in the orginal server setup screen should be added to Rat Client... if possible though

Posted by Koudelka-Dk ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-05-03 06:54:00
This program is absolute Suberb!!! Now i can connect and control the server remotely, however I've seached the web thin to see if there was a monitor for the servers too, so that you will be able to see what people are talking about. Makes it a lot easier to avoid shouting and you dont have to log on every once in a hour to see if all the players are behaving.. Would it be possible to add this feature to the Rat Client and server program?? Also the private messages, it annoys me that i cant see those while logged in as dm. Thanks For a really helpfull program!!

Hi,

Great idea and useful tool!

However I've encountered a limitation with the Get Modules
function. It seems that an error occurs when the total
number of characters for the names of all the modules
exceeds around the 500 mark.

I hope this is helpful information for future fixes. :)

The way that I've gotten around this is to make sure I
only have a few modules in my NWN/modules directory.

Thanks for a wonderful tool,

Sunny

I've gotten RAT to work mostly. My only problem is that
when I go to get modules on the client side, all I see for
local mods are files on my desktop, and nothing shows up in
the remote mods section. Is there a way to change the
targeted directories here?

I'd like to make it control a Linux based server, however I
have no experience in programming for Linux. If someone is
truely interested, I wouldn't mind providing them with the
information to code the server portion for Linux. I myself
however can't do it.

Posted by Aidden ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-09-09 17:22:00
I understand the application is windows based, but if you
could make this control a Linux based server, thousands of
remote linux server operators would /swoon

:)

etropic,

Thanks for helping to explain things! I hope you guys
like the program. If you have any suggestions, I am open
to hearing them! I don't even personally use this program
as I have direct access to the server, but I wrote it for
the DMs on my server. So their feedback is what really
created this program.

Any feedback from you guys will only help to improve the
program. I really enjoy coding so this has been a blast.
RAT has only been in development for about a week so...
there is a lot of room to grow I think.

Critisizms are welcome, just try to keep them
constructive. ;)

its windows....

MSI is a microsoft installer app.. :)

TO NGAMA, or anyone else as well...
test it out with IP 127.0.0.1 on both client and server
and use smething like port 10.
this way you can run the server and client from the same
machine to test it. After you get it working that way, it
might make more sense to you :)

thanks to Trekkan for his dev time :)

1) Is it Linux or Windows?

2) I don't recognize the extension msi; is that a
compression type?

Posted by etropic ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-09-08 09:47:00
to: NGAMA

they look exactly the same...

there are two parts... the SERVER and the CLIENT.

you need to install this on the machine where your nwn
server is running AND on the machine that you want to
access from.

run the SERVER part of RAT on the nwn server machine and
give it options that RAT will use to get to the net. There
is no IP, cause if its your server, you should know the
IP. The part of RAT does nothing but LISTEN for incomming
connections, from the other part of RAT.

Use the CLIENT RAT to connect to the settings you made on
your SERVER RAT and it will allow to you to connect to
your server machine remotly.

This is simply a glorifiyed NWN terminal service. If you
can connect to your server remotely, there is no need for
it. It is for people who cannot set up a remote
connection, to make it easy on them....

Again, run SERVER RAT on SERVER MACHINE and CLIENT RAT on
the machine that you are at to get to server.

clear as mud :)
