Version 3.0 now includes a new tutorial on Custom Races (like the Wemic), a new tutorial on Visual Effects, and an updated Creature tutorial that includes information on animation, danglymesh, and skinmesh. This version has bookmarks and clickable URLs (yay!). *** Have you wanted to try your hand at making custom content for NWN? If so, this detailed guide/tutorial is for you - it has everything you need to get started. The tutorial includes chapters on: - Tools, Weapons, Portraits, Voice Sets, Items Without Models, Spells, Custom Armor, Creatures, Custom Races, Visual Effects and a host of links to the more common tutorials on placeables, etc.). At the back is a summary drawing together the URL's for all of the tools you need to create custom content and then some.
One tiny suggestion. You might want to put the current
chapter in the footer of each page, the document is so
large now it's easy to get lost. _________________________ kobe bryant7

Firstly - great job, I have used the CCG for years and I'm glad it lives on! I echo the earlier comments about it being a timesaver.
Secondly, I've spotted a minor bug. The documentation for visualeffects.2da on page 152 includes the following:
ProgFX_Duration Duration for which the programmed effect plays.
I think this should actually read 'Programmed effect that plays throughout the duration of the effect' - e.g. for VFX_DUR_BARKSKIN this is the only valid column.
Cheers,
-Mith

Every time I refer to this thing to look up how another (something or other) is done, it saves me hours and hours of time researching even though it's years old. This is arguably one of the most important contribution to the Neverwinter Nights Community's longevity. It is certainly, even in 2009, the single most useful thing I've come across in regards to the more esoteric aspects of custom content creation. A 10 then, a 10 now, a 10 two, three, five (or more) from now!

As this is the very best and most complete source for CC builders, but outdated in many details, it would be a good idea IMHO to do a new version. It should be based on the original, and can leave it unchanged in many cases, there must just be some addtional information added here and there. So if we had a editable text document (e. g. in word format), this updated infos could be inserted by the various experts in the vault and Bioware forums. Of course it would be easiest if the original Author would publish such a Text doument. I made a re-conversion of the PDF file into word, and of course would gladly provide this to the community, but
1. as Word goes, the document's formation is very distorted and would have to be redone by hand before the real editing work could start.
2. I would feel better if the original author is behind the project.
So Eligio Sacateca, if you are still around, do you like the idea and would you prase provide us with an editable document?
And all of you out there, would you be interested?

An invaluable resource. Slightly outdated in some places at this late date, years after release, but covers all the basics better than any other resource I know of. A must-read for new content creators. _________________________ - Invisig0th

Quoting Thri Kreen:
"Please note, the CCG here has been superceded by the Wiki CCG located here".
The Wiki CCG has no downloadable version, you have to be online all the time. This makes it completely impossible to use if your online acess is not at the same computer as your NWN projects (like myself), and at least unconvienent for everyone else.

Definately deserves a "10" score for effort! And is a must for custom builders who need a compilation of basic to middle level information. The only problem is if you need advanced and concise information on various subjects you will find there is not enough information. The section on Skin meshes and bones is honestly not really much use. There is actually no information anywhere at the moment for this subject.Basic tutorials are not much use because they do not relate to NWN.Also you mention HI IK Animations which are really not transferable or workable with NWN.Sorry i am not having a go at you, or putting down your brilliant work.Thats why i gave you maximum votes. Its just that advanced modellers need a decent tutorial on skinmeshes for NWN.Apart from that one section your work is 99% excellent.
Does any one have a decent & concise Skinmesh tutorial for NWN? _________________________ Three Headed Troll Art Wurks
Hail! This is the only worthwhile custom content guide currently available. The online version that was hosted by DLA has not functioned for a long time, and the NWN Wiki version is woefully incomplete and inadequate.

The guide is quite outdated, which is a shame because I can't seem to find any as "complete" as this one on the vault by running a search for tutorials. Many things that this guide claims you can't do (and in fact, couldn't at the time of the writing) you most certainly can do now... and of course, that means this guide can't help you do them.
Feats, for example, it only teaches you how to implement in a very clunky manner, rather than through the GUI and Radial menus, which you can do now.

and no it's not a PEBKAC or ID-10T error before you start asking if i saved the file or something of that nature.

having a little problem:
NONE of the changes i make to the .2da files are reflected in the game or toolset. Yes i made sure i saved the files, and double checked the vars, but the toolset displays the default items in the wizard as though i had never made any changes to baseitems.2da for example. help would be appreciated tremendously
