Had difficulty with the lightning on this one, had to work a lot on it. A merge of several images, I think it turned out quite good. Better than the last attempt to make armor at least >_<

This is a really good picture, makes me want to build a fighter for my next PC character even though my last chr was a Fighter lol. Nice to see a good male portrait, they seem to be greatly outnumbered by the female ones =P

Good but that cut on his noise is distracting. Also, it seems to photograph-like.

Solid work! But somehow I have the fealing that the face and the amrmour doesn't fit exactly together. Perhaps it's the light, but I cannot say for sure.

Excellent work! I like the fact he's been in a recent scrap (cut on his nose). Makes it more believable he is a fighter. :)

What I meant by the armor clashing with the face is that it appears that you may have used a watercolor (or something similar) filter on the armor to give it a "painted look" (commonly used...and badly sometimes...). The face lacks this look... Look closely to the really shiny part of the armor (detailing). It's a little ... blotchy? I'm not sure what word is appropriate here. Also, in addition to the blotchy-ness (oh boy...love my vocab tonight), the armor has a strange grainy, streaky quality on the neck area. The skin doesn't match up for me.

You're under no obligation to listen to any of my babble, of course. You say you like critique, so I've offered it. Good luck on the next patch of portraits.

Very good. Almost there - I think (for what I like anyway) it could use a LITTLE more of a painted look in the face, and a little more work on the right shoulder plate (looking at the photo, not from the eyes of the model). Well done.

Thanks for the support ;) I think ill leave him as he is. I like him :) And thanks for your help Dave, ill take a look at it next time i have to make armor ;)

I don't think you should change the face, I for one think it's great just as it is. And I don't think it clashes with the armour either whatever Paraxen meant by that. It's shiny metal, of course it stands out compared with the skin :p"Light travels faster than sound, that's why some people appear bright until you hear them speak"

YOU KNOW WHAT APRICANE THIS PORTRAIT IS REALLY GOOD THAT WHY IAM VOTING...

Apricane, ignore those who give low votes for great work.
If you check their history, you will notice that they usually have contributed nothing to the community, and only give high votes to portraits that are nothing more than cropped pictures stolen off the net from other sites.
I'm going to email you a list of links to sites where you can find decent source material for armor and such.
Hopefully you will find satisfactory armor parts in them.
I've found that pasting the armor over itself in a layer that is 22% opacity, then using smart blur and crosshatch or angled brush strokes will produce a good base in which to start. :)"Me Go Beer!" - Mr. Dave

Paraxen-

I have only used two filters (which i used on the whole portrait), and the healing brush on this one. There is no filters to crash. As for the lightning, I think its fine. Maybe ill adjust the background, but the armor is definately brighter on the right side and darker to the left, as his face is.

Im satisfied with his face, so I wont change that :) Thanks for the suggestions though :)

I love critique ;) Thats what makes me better. Well, I think the armor is a big improvement from the last one, but its still difficult for me to work with armors, and I really want to make more fighters and paladins and blackguards.. :(

Relsh, I dont enjoy the sugar coated comments only, but your comment was a little harsh, and its okay, but it just made me in a bad mood. There's always a nice way to tell people that you've seen them do better (like I told ninelives recently), without having to sugar it up to much :)

I'll work on the scar if i feel like it ;) Thanks for all the comments, I really appreciate it ;)

As I mentioned before... the level of finish and polish is low, the lighting is off, and the various filters clash.

Posted by paraxen at 2004-04-15 18:03:00    Voted 5.00 on 04/15/04
I have to agree with Relsh. Generally, your portraits have a higher level of finish and manipulation. Whether he has a scar or a wound on the nose...it really needs a tweak. The armor has a different filter that really clashes with the face. I like the shadows on the face...gives it drama... but the light source clashes with your background. Try working on the face to have everything flow. And don't take a critique the wrong way. ;)
