I liked Selvan's idea to portray a mage doing a spell so I decided to do one also. I thought Cate would make a perfect Red Wizard, and I also liked her profile pose, instead of the usual frontal look in the camera view I normally use. Clothing created from a dress I found on the net, added textures, recoloured several area's and liquified. Lighting effects and background added. Hope you like her :) UPDATE: I have added a 'mullet'less version of Kia. Just with short hair :) Both pics are included in a new ZIP-file.

Great portrait. Since ignorance is rampant in this post, i'd like to point out that Red Wizards rarely shave their head when not in Thay, as they prefer letting it grow rather than leaving their head at the mercy of a random person. Know what you know before claiming to know eh? Oh and the Zulkir of Enchantment, Lauzoril, one of the rulers of Thay does not shave nor tattoo his head.

Yeah, just ignore the ignorant (sounds pretty funny). You all know how I feel about that whole thing... Backwards hands and all...
And ignore our little friend down there. I had to block him due to his ignorant, inane ramblings.

The discussion below is highly entertaining, although utterly meaningless. But big thanks for a couple of laughs, anyway. :)
The portrait is awesome. Period. And I don't think that her head is too big. Well, it is the dominating part of the picture so it appears to be oversized at first glance, with her clothes and the background being rather similar in color and brightness. But if you actually look at it you notice that the proportions are just fine (hint: compare size of head with shoulder). _________________________ "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. Time-out!
Phew, I had no idea this portrait would cause such strong reactions.
About the RW thing: I've said it before on other portraits where I strayed a little from the rules. I believe it is up to your own imagination. I did create her intended to be a Red Wizard, or at least one in training. I had a little dilemma, I really liked her hair, so I wanted to use it, but I also wanted to make a Red Wizard. Therefor I made the choice. I guess perhaps it is too confusing so I will remove the 'of Thay' part.
About the hair: yes, it is a mullet :) I usually make the same type of hair and I wanted something different. Maybe I will try a version with some different hair. :)
The legs: they were more visible on my computer than here. That's usually the case :)
Thanks for the comments everyone. :D

My only gripe is that the head and the hands seem like two seperate pieces of work. This still is pretty cool though.
Again I look at it this way, not everyone is going to have the same view on something. ie....just because Salvatore says drow eyes are violet does not mean everyone is that way. He's not the boss.
I think the same applies here. It's an artists vision that you guys are griping over. HELLO!!! Fantasy maybe?
At least if you're going to gripe leave a name and don't hide it--otherwise you look like a troll.
All in all Phae, I have to admit I like the goblin hunter the best of all of your portraits--but this one has a nice flow to it.

Despite the definition arguments, this is great, even stunning, art. Love the swirling red, but I'm a sucker for red. Thanks!!

I like it- though her head does seem unusually large ::shrug::

In all fairness I did miss that and it says here that my post was made at 1.15 am so I probably wasn't as alert as I could be.

Who the hell cares if she's bald, tattooed, red, green, yellow, orange??? As long as the portrait was brilliantly done, that's all that matters!!!! It's a FANTASY game for a reason!!!
Ok, back to the portrait...On thing I have a minor confusion about are her legs, or lackthereof...I can see some kind of netting between the folds of her robe, but it's seems to thick to be her leg, and her position doesn't seem to say that her leg is hidden in the front fold of her robe. Unless she's doing some kind of teleport magic, and her legs have faded away first??Timmy C.

With all this talk about hair, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned that this girl appears to be sporting THE fem-mullet of the century.
It could just be the way her hair is falling, over the far side of her head, but the viewing angle here makes a strong argument toward a short-n-spikey 'do up top, graduating to a waaaay longer back.
What say you, Phaere? Was the original pic mulletastic, or is that just a visual trick?

Yeah, whatever. Though I have to admit a bald, woman with head tattoos would present an interesting challenge...
I like this one. Great pose, creative use of hair, lovely effects.

Red Wizards in general shave their heads so they may have tattoos there, but make no mistake, there are plenty that don't... It's really a 50/50 type of deal.

Actually, not only are the Red Wizards of Thay bald, but they also tatoo their heads. At least the ones that hope to get anywhere in the political/social structure of Thay. That pretty much covers every wizard of Thay.
Who cares if the portrait is not bald. I prefer women with hair anyways. Great photo. If Phaere wants a red wizard with hair, then Phaere can have one. Sinead O'Connor had her day, but that was a long time ago. Guys, NWN is about freedom; enjoy the game rather than displaying how bored you are to bash people's great artwork.
I like the portrait; good work.If I can draw a map of Athkala better than Manhattan, does that make me a nerd? _________________________ No one crosses the Shadow Thieves... and lives.

Balgin you really should get your eyes checked. Considering you state that you did not see any reference to Thay in neither the name nor the description. But the name clealy says "Kia, Red Wizard of Thay" (hin: Note the "Thay" part of the name) I don't know why you missed this, perhaps you didn't see it, or you didn't understand it. But next time I suggest that you look over all the facts before you comment.
