This is from the final battle of "True Colors Of A Hero". Its a play on the theme from the World Map. Basically, with the World Map theme summing up the "Quest" as a whole, this aims to reference it and give it that "all or nothing" dramatic feel.
Might not be useful for that many, but I hope you enjoy it. I had loads of fun making this! :D

Updated - Now with new orchestral sounds. I think it sounds better. What do you think?
Thanks for the comments! Yeah, the intention was reusing the theme and making it more *hectic* (in a nutshell). It was sort of an experiment in trying to take an existing theme and rewriting it for a totally different mood.
werelynx2 - each to their own :). I felt having a breakdown in the middle would emphasise the louder / more hectic sections, but a few people have said they'd prefer it wasn't there.

Starts good, but the gap in the middle is unnecessary _________________________ Thanks Rolo:)

Not bad at all, just a little too dramatic for my taste. It feels like the theme of TCoaH with a little more hectiness added - which might have been your intention but I prefer your original battle songs ("Giants of the Sierra" & "The Sandstorm") and the use of the theme in "World Map". Still, worth checking out.

A pleasant one, that is. However, it's a bit typical "super-epic battle: good versus evil" and we've already heard and liked a plenty of those. _________________________ [...] And the world was created. [...]
I know what you mean - the track was meant for quite a big fight but there was room for character dialogue too. Plus I felt it needed a lull at some point in the loop so it doesn't just drone away into the background (because of the quieter bit you really notice when it comes back in).
I tested it in the game fighting some big boss-type baddies and it seemed to work though - but I guess it would be very particular to the type of battle you're fighting (I can't really see it working everywhere).

Sorry to hear that akibara.
I can't really put my finger on any specific area where i've gone wrong through reading your comments. Are there any suggestions you'd make to improve the piece?
With a vote so low it seems there's definitely something at fault with it so any further information you could give me would be most appreciated.

its quite minimal, and does nothing to inspire, at best I'd call it a high tension piece suitable for a tense portion of an RTS. but this does not give an all or nothing feel at all, its barely a battle theme.
At the moment i'm battling with the NWVault requested "Elven" theme (trying to make it sound different to any Elven music that's already out there - its a nightmare!).
I'm hoping to get some more music work done soon though.

Fantastic battle music. It really does sound appropriate for the final boss battle. You're a very talented composer. I hope you contribute more pieces at the Vault. Anyhow, here's vote #10 to land this composition in the Top Rated list. _________________________ Yay, I have a blog. Faithless: The Making of an NWN2 Module

As for the comments - strange you should say that! This was reshuffled to be the "final fight" of Chapter 2, as opposed to the absolute final fight, and I was planning on writing a more "epic" version of this to finish the mod on. However, I didn't really want to write a piece of music for a part of the game that was only roughly down on paper.

It`s good but not dramatic enough to fit the "final fight".
Maybe it is too soft and missing more orchestral-drums and some really loud and deep base -og some sort...
Cubase SX (an old version though - I don't like change!), Edirol Orchestral VSTi and EWQLSO Silver.
To be honest, whilst the EWQLSO Silver seemed to make a massive difference when I switched some instruments over to it, the Edirol original version sounds almost as good.
I love EWQLSO Silver though - there's quite a few really nice instruments in there. :)
Thanks for the votes everyone! And...I only just found out about this AME thing, and i'm shocked! Thanks to whoever nominated me! :)
Also....there IS more music on the way! :)

Can you tell me which programs exactly you used for this one? I'd like to know, because I'm currently working on music for a module of my own right now, and SynthFont's not my best friend in some cases. _________________________ No, I am NOT a Lotus Assassin! Definitely a super final battle track, and possibly the best track out there that I have found for this kind of purpose. _________________________ Works of B G P Hughes: Link
Dale Patten - that should suffice. Just remember, the EWQLSO Silver has a load of controllers that you can use with it. And if your machine struggles with the amount of tracks you're using (or want to use) then mixdown 2 halves of the song, containing half the tracks each, then re-combine them in a wave editor (you may have to drop their levels in order to get them to work).
I had that problem and it worked for me, but it did take a few attempts to get the balance right.
Also in respect to getting the EWQLSO sounds to work, try mixing different soundsets up. And don't be afraid to drop in samples to (even awful low-fi "got it off a dodgy site" sample. A simple bass "click" sample (ala 22kHz dodgy website bassdrum sample) can make a string stab really stand out, if you mix it in well.
Thanks for the vote and comment! :)

wow, it sounds great. Ive been trying to get my battle music to sound like that. Cakewalk and EWQLSO Silver are the only programs that I use though.
Yeah, I was a Cakewalk supporter for many, many years. But in the early days I ended up getting sick of the lack of VST support (with their focus on DXI etc. ). so I switched. :)
-Bluepowder - I've been using the EWQLSO Silver a lot more now and although its great and definitely an improvement, its not perfect. I've found that the snare lacks any body at all, the lack of viola sounds is a little annoying (viola being one of my favourites by far) and the Spiccato strings a little....abrasive. I guess i'm just too used to the Edirol sounds in those respects, but I've felt, along with others, that mixing both orchestral soundsets together produces the best results. For instance, in this track, using both Martele from EWQLSO and Spiccato from Edirol really mixed very nicely and achieved the effect I was looking for.

Oh, if you did say it before, pardon. Nah, I only ment the program which you used ;)
bluepowder - The Gold edition contains more instruments and articulations. I'd say it's probably worth it, OR getting the Silver and the XP with it, because there are a few articulations that I feel i'd like to have (for instance, the QLegato ones for strings / horns / woodwinds).
Xard - thanks Xard! I made this in Cubase (I think i said that before! doh!).
Um...using my keyboard and computer? I guess thats the best answer I can give. I'm not sure if you meant something else?
This should be updated soon with the new and improved sounds. :)

If you ask from me, this is awesome :) How did you create this?

Hey clarky
Do you think the QL Gold is worth it? Or aren't there too many differences between the Silver and Gold Edition? When I last saw the QL Siver some months ago (in Germany) it was pretty expansive, but the price has probably dropped a lot since then, like it always does with software in general. I'll check it out then =)
And I think you deserve the vote, cause I enjoyed your composition much more than most stuff that's in the hall of fame! _________________________ I'm a prof. composer/sound designer. Link to my myspace
I use Cubase. All my work used the Edirol Orchestral VSTi (which sadly is all darn synthesized!).
I've now got the Quantum Leap Silver which should help a lot. Its not very expensive really.
Thanks for the vote!

Hey there!
You've done a great job with this theme, I loved it! What samples did you use? And which sequencer? I write music myself, but I've got no decent orchestral sampler. Quantum Leap would be awesome, but who can afford this...
Anyway, here's your vote!

Great piece. Made me want to use my broadsword. Then I realised I would probably find myself vulnerable to fire of wrath. Those damn mages! Seriously though, an accomplished bit of music which rouses the spirit and provokes feelings of duty, valour, and the cold steel bite of sated betrayal... CONTINUE
