Features
Lands of Algia Warhammer is a mid level magic world, meaning that +2 weapons are usual with +3 weapons being hot finds, +4 weapons are attainable but extremely rare/mythical. The same goes for permanent stat boosting items. Items that grant permanent haste and immunity are non-existent.
Quests; Lands of Algia - Warhammer is very quest rich with approximately 40 quests already scripted for your enjoyment. These range from simple starting quests in town through to long engaged quests taking several hours to complete. Room is made in the quests for good and evil, lawful and chaotic. Actions in quests effect the way townsfolk may treat you in the future. Dont get too well known as a criminal or you will find yourself shunned.
In this type of world you tend to find that spell casters dominate other classes, with that in mind we have implemented an altered spell casting system that requires a caster to buy generic components to ensure they do not dominate other classes. Balanced with the player base, supply and demand will ensure that every other character is not a caster. Wizards will also have to learn that they are very weak alone at low levels.
Quest token rewards. Longevity is important. A common fault of PWs is that eventually the player base learns that this monster has the best sword and that the best shield. Everyone ends up the same. When you complete quests you get tokens, these can be traded with treasure givers that provide you a random item from a set of treasure pools. Do you want a weapon for a dexterity based character or a miscellaneous item for a caster? This means 10 people doing the same quests will not end up with the same set of items.
Custom XP scripts. XP is designed so that up to 4 characters can party before there are any penalties promoting party play without penalizing soloists. XP for killing monsters degrades over time from relatively generous rewards to much lower amounts once you have killed a few dozen of the same thing making those farming grinds pointless. This is compensated by comparatively more generous quest rewards.
LAW is a roleplaying world, however we are not the 'RP enforcement police' in that we do not expect everyone to RP to our predetermined specifications, that said we do expect players to be civil to each other out of character so if you are uncomfortable with someone elses roleplay which you are involved with then send them an OOC 'tell' explaining the fact. This leads on to...
CvC: Player vs Player is not permitted, this means that for instance if you as a player take a dislike to another player, you do not take it out on them through your characters. However this is Warhammer so Character vs Character is acceptable, provided that there is a reason for the conflict but please remember that conflict does not always have to be resolved with violence, you could use persuasion/successful intimidation etc. And remember if an NPC sees you commit a crime you may end up with the city guard on you.
Role-playing reward systems. There are 2 built in reward systems. First, DMs give reward cookies for roleplaying and adding to the server. These are player rewards and can be traded for special gifts and awards to further develop engagement with your favorite characters. Secondly there is DMXP this is a system where DMs can reward general RP. The effect of DMXP is to adjust the rewards from kills and the penalties from dieing. DMXP is persistent and effects your whole character life in game.
Character death has no penalties below 4th level; you do not lose XP or gold when you respawn so explore the world while its still painless. From 5th level onwards there is an escalating XP loss and a static 50% gold loss when you respawn, this is to represent the cost of raise dead/resurrection via various temples, locating the body etc.
Heeds Tools and DMFI implemented to further enhance the roleplaying experience. These tools together are particularly useful in supporting DM events where those PnP like rolls make all the difference.
Progression up to about 4th or 5th is quite quick after that it slows down. Non ECL characters can immediately gain 3rd level.
All characters have unlimited respawns with the following exceptions:- Certain areas that contain much better treasure (amongst other reasons) will be classed as mortal combat zones where if you choose to respawn you will permanently lose one of your 9 lives, once all these lives are gone you are permanently dead. Any such areas will be marked as such. Some DM quests will have this classification and as such any players will be notified beforehand. Raise dead and resurrection by another character is unaffected by this rule. Where players or factions have roleplaying reasons for conflict then a DM moderated event can allow the loser to lose a life token. This way duels and assassinations played out well CAN mean something. In the present Algia build there are only 2 dungeons that are mortal and one of those is the criminal punishment pit. Dont get caught!
There are no restrictions on classes or races in Algia. However if you walk into an Empire town as a Dark Elf (Chaosborn) dont be surprised when all the guards come charging at you. Thus, in Algia the result is the ECL races are weaker than the non ECL races. People should play these for RP reasons and not for advantage. We dont want a server where you never see a human.

Description
Every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end. Semisonic, Closing Time
Its true. The Lands of Algia, and the World of Algia have become a thing of the past. The team at Algia have moved forward with a new direction and have embraced what the Neverwinter Nights 2 toolset can do and used it to bring you a new Persistent Action / Roleplay World Warhammer Fantasy. Lands of Algia Warhammer.
We have endeavored to bring to life in the Neverwinter Nights 2 tradition, the Warhammer fantasy universe. We are using the world and traditions that the Games Workshop people have created through the last 20 years of Warhammer and bringing that to you in NWN2 to live in and enjoy.
Lands of Algia Warhammer (LAW) will still continue to be a vibrant world which takes the players actions and uses it to change the world itself. Nothing that happens within LAW is unnoticed. We also keep a forum going to help players and DMs schedule out events, roleplay on the web and not just in the game, tell stories of the fabulous and foul. There are systems in place for players to progress to hold office, form factions and build a civilization in their image. In short, we are bringing you a truly immerse world to belong to, and game in. And we invite you to join us.
We are currently in a BETA mode to make sure everything is running properly since we did the entire rebuild. We are also looking for Every type of Player - from average joe, to Beta tester, to DM, and Coders / Builders. If you are interested please come to the website and register and let us know.
The server has been down for a few months due to RL issues, but we are back online again now, currently running a beta test to iron out some hak/script issues. We will be updating to SOZ in a month or so. _________________________ Life is an Illusion - Death is the only Reality
Many apologies to anyone who has tried to play in the last few months. We had a lot of problems ranging from real life issues with several DMs to server problems. However that is now behind us and xmas is out the way. We have lost over 50% of our team due to RL issues/time constraints (currently 3 DMS and builders - so we are looking for a few new DMs and builders if you are interested) so our rebuild is going slowly. That said we are entering Beta again (we had some hak/other script issues) and need testers so please visit the forum and make yourself known so I can add you to our current list of testers. Thank you for your patience. _________________________ Life is an Illusion - Death is the only Reality
Is your server even up?
First, I tried WorldGate to get the files, but no connection possible. I then downloaded all the files directly for your site and tried to direct connect via he IP address mentioned in your forums, but the server does not respond.
Did the IP change again or is the server down at the moment? I'd really like to give it a try after the various good comments I read...

Thanks for all the compliments - I do appreciate seeing all the work we put into the server and the choices we make with our staff to be paying off.
As a side note - I have created a group in facebook for Lands of Algia. If you use Facebook (yes, I got hooked on it) you can search for LANDS OF ALGIA and join the group. It's an open group so no requests are blocked.

If you are new to multi-player, I would highly recommend Algia. There is so much to learn re communication, roleplaying, party mechanics, etc., that it can be very frustrating just starting out. I tried several different PW's, and this one was the only one I found players patient enough to help me get acclimated to the system and to the setting.
Special thanks to Sigried and Hignar for babysitting me as I slowly advance in levels!

I really recommend this server to everyone! This is what I have been looking for a long time; a creative server with a towards newcomers friendly community. I couldn't choose better.

With but a slightly higher population, this server has potential to be the best I've seen to date.
Dedicated DM's, lots of content, and very well made and scripted areas.
Definately worth a visit.

Actually carpot not having tried the server and voting anyway is kind of ignorant. Servers all have to start somewhere and just because the population is low doesn't mean there isn't quality there. In fact many people have said the flaws with the servers getting the most players is degradation in roleplay quality. Events are swarmed and players are either idling or hunting all the time. This server happens to have a lot of content others didn't even consider but I suppose you didn't read the features of it no less visit the website before passing judgement.

High quality server. Good scripting, and enthusiasm for all involved. The only drawback is how new it is and needing more population. Content added frequently.

I know I'm super worried that all these Persistent World Roleplaying servers live up to Carpot_Muncher(tm) standards. So lets review:
1) Must have lotz of playas during his hours of play.
2) Must not have 10's in voting section on NWVault.
3) Must have well-organized forum.
4) Must make mod changes based on player feedback.
5) Script creators must balance gameplay.
6) Module must constantly expand.
7) DMs must continually stamp out exploits.
8) Must be able to kill anyone he feels like (quote from '9' vote on DEX):
"Best of all... I get to kill anyone I feel like, which would be anyone who tried PKing my lowbies or uses exploits in pvp."
Shucks, I'm sure any Persistent World Roleplaying Server would love to have you on board! If only they could live up to the standards. :(

Well, at least you didn't have my original post deleted out of this thread (it was deleted out of the World of Talernon thread, curiously).
Whats wrong if I gave 6 servers the same low vote and comment? It is absolutely true; I often peruse through other servers, but if there are no players, then where is the appeal? I just checked Gamespy and again, this server has 0 players.
Have you reviewed the Voting Standards? If so, you'll notice that there has been a lot of effort toward preventing from so many people blindly voting 10 "genuinely groundbreaking", yet unfortunately, the standards are ignored.
i have asked maximus to delete the 2.00 vote after looking at some of the other top rated worlds. carpot muncher has purposely down-voted all worlds in the list in an attempt to drop their rating so the world he voted a 9.00 on (dungeoneternalx) would jump ahead of the pack. its so obvious he used the same comment for most of them.
Posted by Carpot_Muncher at 2007-06-05 12:29:00 Voted 2.00 on 06/05/07
I must give it a 2 "Very little appeal" just because I have never seen this mod via Gamespy. This is because I have a filter on which requires a server to have at least ONE player logged in for it to appear to me via Gamespy. For me, servers with no players on have no appeal.

The server is great to find a new place to start and really build something special. The focus is on partying but even my weeny cleric can solo because a LOT of time and skill has been put into making quests by npcs which eases you into the setting. In my first two weeks of playing (it's stilla beta too!) I was involved in no less than 5 quests :).
The admins, dm's and builders are all mature and patient lot and willing to take into consideration what people say because they're here for us \o/.
My thanks to the team for all the help and support. And to all for the fun! :) _________________________ Yum2
