Name  MotB Revert Pack
Author  Countless
Submitted / Updated  10-16-2007 / 02-02-2009
Category  PC Parts
Patch  1.10
NWN2Game  NWN2:MotB
Description
As anyone who has installed MotB knows, Obsidian saw fit to make certain aesthetic changes to a lot of the heads and the Warlock's armor. Since many people don't like these changes, I decided to upload this pack so they can get back to the way it was before MotB.

Installation is simple, you just extract the file into your My Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2\Override folder and play. It's a 7z file, but WinRAR and ZipGenius should be capable of extracting it, and if you don't have either I recommend you visit Link and get the latest version of 7-zip. Since this pack doesn't contain any 2das or other important files it should be fine with all future patches, but nevertheless it is still recommended that you move all files out of your Override directory before applying new patches.

If you know of any other things MotB changed that you'd like to have back feel free to suggest them, but keep in mind there's nothing I can do about the new spell/invocation chants with the Override, as much as I'd love to. That can only be done on your end, which is why I've included a .txt file with step by step instructions for getting the old spell chants back. WARNING: failure to follow the instructions in the file to the letter will prevent you from patching in the future.

It's also easy to pick and choose which changes you want and which you don't. I've put each of the files inside their own folders, so if for example you want MotB's Wood Elves, you can just delete the Wood Elf folder.

12/02/2007: Updated with screenshots showing the models changed by MotB, first the originals and then the MotB versions. Each screenshot is bald with the palest available skin tint to make it easier to see the differences.

The mod now removes the 2d portraits from the original Animal Companions and Familiars, and the spell chant instructions have been made available as a separate download.

An absolute essential that I somehow missed before. Why Obsidian didn't spend time fixing all those gawdawful anime swords and axes they stuck us with instead of mucking up the heads is beyond me. Thank heavens for the Vault

It makes drow and sun elves females... prettier? Less ugly? Ok, they are still nightmare fuel, but it's not the point of revert pack, and you done well.

Oh my this is still a sanity saver for me; motb made the game so ugly and unprofessional looking. What were they thinking?

Posted by meacodri at 2009-06-09 05:51:49    Voted 10.00 on 06/09/09
10/10 just for the chant instructions, though I think the MOTB heads actually look a lot better than the originals.

I didn't immediately realize what was causing those nasty chant clips, because I didn't remember them from when I first played the OC (before the expansions were out). So I was very confused to hear Grobnar and Qara constantly muttering something about raining Khomeini. It kinda makes them sound retarded. Kinda REALLY retarded.

Thanks for the chant revert, it was really annoying when you had a female sorcerer/wizard with all those strange chants. The old ones had a interesting voice and sounded cool with the magic effects and you dont want to destroy your computer when you had a spell caster in the group

(Belated) thanks Xaltar, and especially you Demonicson. I would have said that earlier, except I didn't realize 25th vote applied to things other than modules. I don't really think I should have gotten in when there are so many "haks" ahead of mine in score, but apparently I'm in on the technicality that this has more votes (even though they're lower). It's certainly helping my download count though, so I can't complain... that's what I really care about anyway, scores and titles come second to how many people are using it.

Thanks bunches, the new armors and voice set really suck. I'm grateful for the revert =)

Unfortunately, after thoroughly testing Viola's proposed Override solution, I have decided not to go forward with that idea. Obviously it would have been vastly preferable if it got the same results, but it does not. I knew going in that there were more new chants than old, but I thought I could get around that by copying the old chant files so they would be used in multiple places. Sadly, it turns out that not only did MotB increase the variety of chants, it shuffled some around as well. In addition to this, if the new chant system is being used chants will come from some ability uses too, which is especially annoying with obviously nonhumanoid creatures (such as a Wraith activating its aura). The Override solution would not be able to solve that problem. The only way to really make it work as it did before MotB is to trick the game into using the old system; just replacing files doesn't work.

That said, if Viola wants to go ahead on her own, that's fine by me and I'll even link to it. But I'm not comfortable using a partial solution, and I'm not willing to go to the (fairly significant) trouble involved in doing it right for something I wouldn't use myself.

Nothing new here but still good to have. Heres my number 25 vote ;)

Nice stuff. Usefull to have seeing as motb ruined a lot of the artwork.

@Viola, could you send me a PM on the BioWare forums re: exactly which files you're talking about? If it's true that would be great news, but I've been disappointed because of Warlock chants being handled differently before. I'm looking in Sounds.zip and the Warlock chants are the only ones I can spot.

Posted by Viola at 2008-12-23 18:48:55
I did some experimenting with the chants based on your instructions, and you can Override them. Copy the original chants from Sounds.zip to the Override and rename them to match the new chants. I only tried this with the warlock chants, but it worked fine. And I also used the Program Files location, in case that makes a difference.

Why were they wasting time altering perfectly good armor when they could have used it to actually add original armor for the new classes one wonders.

I did'nt like how MoTB changed certain things so thankyou for this.

A most desirable replacement for various features that were altered with the addition of the expansion pack. Perhaps someone will maybe make a version that focuses on little itty bitty parts rather than almost everything at once so its more customizable.

Vinchenzo made a post here.
Plz check out my entries. I'm currently making a few simple modules, designing 3 special characters, and hope to someday be good this stuff.

This is Vinchenzo, finishing his post with the following advice:
Don't use Latin improperly (Lupis means grey, Rufus is red, Canid is dog, so on.) Furries annoy me with their improper usage of such. And I'm a furry!!! Ugh...
Don't vote for Beta things unless told they are finished, unless posted specifically by the author.
Don't abuse the vote and post function, don't vote for your own/friends stuff just to get a high vote. Don't flame vote either just to be an ass.
There is a voting system for how the points are used, even I forget, but we should follow it (and tattoo it to our forehead, lol)

Some comparison of original/motb would be nice to have as a pic, some people bought something known as the "gold edition" while others might not have played with Warlocks until MoTB

I just have to say thanks a million for the tips on how to restore the cool warlock chant. It's bugged me to no end that they cutesied it up after the expansion. While I was a little disappointed in the new way the female warlock outfit now looks, I rarely use it anyway so it wasn't so bad for me. Undoubtedly other people are finding it a lifesaver though. Great work!

Excellent Mod, can't thank you enough! :)

Posted by Countless at 2008-04-27 02:55:50
The only way to do that would be to modify the Warlock armor textures to match the new heads. As-is, they simply aren't compatible, and what's more I believe doing so would cause a similar gap with the races MotB didn't change.

Posted by Amnon at 2008-04-26 21:40:15
What can one do if you want to use the MOTB races for warlock and also want it to look good showing skin? Is there anyway to do that without the absurd gap between the face and the rest of the body?

Posted by Ravenstar at 2008-04-02 20:33:15    Voted 9.75 on 04/02/08
Thank you! I think that most of the new heads are, well, just flat ugly.

Posted by Bardaholic at 2008-03-16 16:53:42    Voted 8.50 on 03/16/08
A good addition, though not one I think I will use. I have no problems with the new heads, in fact I think they're better looking than the original ones. What REALLY caught my attention about this, however, was the short guide to reverting back to the proper spell chants, and not those cutesy cartoon ones introduced in MoTB.

I give it an 8.5. If I used the heads, it'd be 10.

And, Nighroad, there IS a seperate fix for the Warlock armour elsewhere on the vault. Do a search and you should find it quickly.

Couldn't do without this!

After I had MoTB installed I was shocked by the new Warlock armor and how my Moon Elf looked like. So this was exactly what I needed to get the old look back.

Thank you for sharing.

Have Fun
