NWN2 ORIGINAL HAKPAKS

Name  Dragonkin (with additional specialized armor options)
Author  Camb
Submitted / Updated  12-28-2007 / 05-09-2009
Category  Creatures
Patch  1.22
NWN2Game  NWN2:MotB
Description
Concept (and motivation, ideas and endless brainstorming) by Zarvhak. Adds a new creature race (not playable) called Dragonkin to the game.

There are two 2DA files both with one additional line each very well padded, so very easy to merge with other packages. Explaining how to merge 2DA files is beyond the scope of this submission, but searching for it on the neverwinter night forums or the vault here should turn up plenty of results. The creature race's body is human, with 2DA-driven additions such as custom-fit wings (from whatbrick's Wing's Galore) and tails. The heads are simply the four OEI dragon heads scaled and skinned to the human skeleton (also 2DA driven), then tweaked a bit to make male/female differences.

The creatures are fully tintable, as is their special armor that shows some scaley skin (you can use ANY armor humans use, including any new armor that comes out, these are simply additional custom made armors for this race). To give them body scale armor/clothing options, I had to clone and retexture 8 of the human models (four for males, four for females). I appended the models with the unused numbers 71 to 73 depending on the armor (corresponds to 01 to 03, so for example P_HHF_CH_Body72.mdb is a modified clone of P_HHF_CH_Body02.mdb). There were some tweaks involved in the body models to make the parts that were supposed to be scaley skin look like skin. Most of the body work was getting the texturing correct.

Install Instructions FOR HAK VERSION

1: Extract the "dragonkin_v1-22.hak" file into your "hak" directory (.../My Documents/Neverwinter Nights 2/hak).

2: If you are a builder and you want this hak required for your module then assign it via the Module Properties and be sure to give players access to the required hak.

How to use the Custom Dragonkin Armorsets

Option 1: In the toolset (in a module with the hak installed) select the dragonkin who's armor you would like to change. In the properties window go to the Armor Set tab. For the "Main Type" select from either Default (clothe), Chain Shirt, Leather or Full Plate. For the "Main Variation" select the armor number that STARTS with a "7" (71 for example). That's it! Just change the rest of the settings for the other armor peices as you see fit.

Option 2: Make a copy of an armor type in the armor blueprints. Select your copy. Use the steps in Option 1. Give your dragonkin his/her new armor item via their equipment tab and equip it. That's it.

NOTE: you probably don't want non-dragonkin getting a hold of that armor you just made, so make sure it's not droppable or pickpocketable, and don't give it away in treasure chests.

A very good work. I hope there will be more creatures like that on the vault in the near future. We really need them

Maybe a yuan-ti race could be in the future..??? Actually a nice race pack with playable races.....Hey I'm no modeler, but I can keep hak packs organized and keep 2das up to date if that is the concern. So consider this an offer of help. I know the community is drooling for more playable races, as well as races for modules and pws like you've done with the lizardmen, fey, dragonmen, etc.... Oh. Tintable, cool looking half-dragons. And here I was writing down 'half-dragons' as something that needs to be found somewhere if I go into IWD2 remake. Say, you don't have chimeras and yetis stashed away somewhere? _________________________ Joinable NPCs in IWD2. I'm *not* kidding!

Camb you are setting the bar higher and higher! New models are just what is needed and if you manage to turn them into a playable race all the better. The addition of race-specific armor was a great touch indeed. Would it be possible to introduce specifc voicesets for these as well in the future perhaps? _________________________ Khalidine - A Unique playing experience for everyone

This is just... wow. I have no words for this. They look so utterly amazing... better than a lot of the content we had to pay for. I love it! It makes me wish the draconic race I use in my setting even remotely resembled this...

As has already been posted, the only thing missing here is the playability option. These look great. The wings (which I've already used for my tiefling) are superb and worth the download alone. Unfortunately, I've never delved heavily into the NwN2 Engine, lacking the memory on my machine to get it to run at any sort of reasonable rate, so I can't give you any suggestions on how to add wings at character creation. As a Red Dragon Disciple fanatic, NwN2 was even more disappointing when it came to player wings than the first game's implementation. Still, even if all you did bring this to a point where you could create the character from start up and add wings at a later point, I'd be more than willing to ignore the inconvenience to play one of these. Getting something similar in NwN1 required a combination of DebugMode/SetRace, a passive Sub-race which meant nothing, numerous .Hak files cut up and crammed into an already overwhelmed override, spliced and overloaded .2da files, and too many trips to Leto? and that?s only for playing non .hak modules or the original campaigns. Sure, realizing these in full would probably take a lot of file juggling, keeping .2da files up to date, and the character itself ?d probably leave one with a level penalty that?d make a Deep Gnome blush, but it?s a price I?d pay in a heart beat. This concept is possibly the most thrilling custom content I?ve seen since the CEP, perhaps even moreso given my tastes, and I?d love to see it realized in full. _________________________ Forgiveness is the true test of justice....
