NWN1 Style Familiars for NWN2
=============================

Before installing read the installation instructions provided in the download documentation. Even if you dont read anything else, please read this.

Welcome to the 1.1.1 version of this mod which is basically an update of 1.1 to work with Kaedrin's PrC pack 1.39.1.

What Familiars are added?
=========================
Panther, Hellhound, Ice Mephit, Fire Mephit, Imp, Pixie, Sylph, Eyeball (credit to Ree for the model), Clay Golem, Pseudodragon, Faerie Dragon, Winter Wolf, Homunculus, Bone Spider, Warhorse, Nightmare, Blade Golem

Compatibility
=============
This will definitely work with all expansions installed, updated to patch 1.23, and with Kaedrin's pack 1.39.1.

Optional Components
===================
Please take note of this section
In the optional subdirectory there are are number of optional components. If you do not want a component then simply delete it's directory.

If you have a previous version of my pack please remove this before installing the new version.. if you don't then you [b]WILL[/b] have problems.

Youre right, i don't check in often... but if you can use a custom TLK i don't see why you shouldn't be able to extract the TLK items yourself. Sorry if this just me being lazy. Got enough on my hands at the moment without maintaining this pack and handling requests.

I know you don't check this often but I was wondering if it would be possible to have you post a custom.tlk file for this so I could merge it with newer versions of Kaedrin's PRC pack or other dialog.tlk files if need be?

Other than that, this is one awesome piece of work. I'm not really great at editing but might look into the pixie thing. I also have noticed that she is lacking the disable trap/lock ability. Like all other things, they can still 'try' to do it but that isn't one of the natural abilities. My wizards miss their trap foiling, lock picking, annoy the monster friends! =D

In regards to the Pixie disable traps issue make sure you set the behavior to disable traps. I tested it and my Pixie disabled traps just fine.

Hi, sorry for the delay, i rarely check this these days, the aforementioned possible update is still kind of in my mind but as i'm mainly playing online these days there is little interest for me to keep things up to date or develop it further.

In response to your question zerit2002, i have no idea. If i gave the Pixie disable device skill then it should be able to do it... maybe i never gave it that skill.

If this is the problem then you can fix the problem yourself by opening the toolset and editing the pixie familar templates (all 15 of them).

My pixie picks locks just fine, but he won't disable traps. That option simply doesn't appear. Is this normal? I have patch 1.23 and SoZ.

@pittlers - read the instructions. It only replaces the summons if you keep the optional component which causes it to make all summon spells summon panthers. It was my fault for not putting the optional components outside the main install.

I've recently got back into NWN2, so i may, just may come back to this pack and get it updated and make further refinements.... don't hold your breath though for anything soon.

I love this, but I am a perfectionist, and I noticed one thing that's been driving me crazy.. when creatures are summoned (spells, like conjuring elementals and such), they are replaced with new creatures, which is okay, but the spell is still called "summon greater elemental" or whatever in the spell book. Could you fix it? :D Pretty please?

A great mod! only i too have a problem with dialog.tlk ik cant see descriptions.
im a real newbie when it comes too change thinges so i really wouldnt know how to fix it, i didnt even understand you explanation to those with the same problem :(
the skeleton familiar, he doesnt gain better armor anymore when im a pale master, can fix this?

@Society - Actually had my computer die and also got distracted with other things and family. Not found the willpower to return to creating more content yet. The one thing i keep nagging myself to actually do is update the pack for Kaedrin's latest release. It's really trivial when you know how (and a lot of people do), but not every person knows how to do it.... only takes a short time to do... just those damn distractions....

Mimics perhaps can work as familiars, i'll keep it in mind. As cosmetic familiars perhaps work well, but not sure what could be done with them in the more combat oriented engine without a lot of scripting (which i am trying to avoid like the plague) There are several more familiar types on the to-do list.

Wanted to update a little today for Kaedrin's .3 release. Not sure it is really necessary as there may be no real TLK changes and everything else remains the same. However, both IE and Firefox are for some reason failing to upload, so will try again later in the week.

Currrent plans at the moment are not set. Some more familiars i will do in the not too distant future but for the moment i'm not in any rush. There are a number of other things i want to take a look at as well but again, in no rush.

For those who are interested i should have an updated TLK to work with Kaedrin's 1.39 within the week. Doubt i can get it done quicker as RL is taking priority at the moment.

Just updated my Combo Pack or Drammel's latest but now the Faerie Dragon and Pseudodragon are broken...any thoughts? All I see is a huge tale in the character generation and no summoning in game. Help!

@Sieben Elfriend - Sieben is the name of a character from some of Gemmels books. A poet and a lover of women who mainly travels with a fighter called Druss (one of Gemmel's most renowned characters). He appears in two books IIRC, Druss the Slayer and The Legend of Deathwalker. Legend (not to be confused with Legend of Deathwalker) is a fantastic book about Druss (very old at this point) going to fight a battle at a fortress. It is really fantastic and gives a real good description of the battle and the feelings of the people involved.

Another Gemmel classic is Waylander. Typical anti-hero book.
*** spoiler alert ***
An assassin who is 'touched' by a priest and slowly becomes, well, not good, but no longer evil. At the same time the preist slowly transforms from being a pacifist into a warrior of light.

Overall i really enjoy Gemmel's books as you get some really good descriptive battles (without being long winded) and he really makes the characters feel alive and like real people.

Why do you ask about David Gemmel? I'd never heard of him, but now I know and will try some of his novels, since that's a style I like. Thanks for the tip. You're right about the werewolf, but I'll look forward to the nymph and to your collaboration with Cyphre.

Take a well-deserved break and enjoy the holidays. As long as the community has modders like you, NWN2 will never die!

@Sieben Elfriend - hi and thanks for the vote. First off... you happen to be a fan of David Gemmel by chance?

Secondly, Nymph is definitely on the cards, but the model is giving me issues (its related to what the familiar selection screen will actually display).

Werewolf i cant really see as a familiar. It could work as an animal companion so you may want to mention it to Cyphre over on his animal companion mod page.

Lastly, thanks for the compliment about the voting (yes, too many people vote 10 for anything) and thanks for the compliment about the pack. I've said it many times and feedback is the lifeblood of any project. If after you have played it a bit more you want to offer anything more specific then feel free to let me know either here or through the official forums.... because of a different conversation i have discovered an issue with some of the creatures resistances which now needs fixing.... possibly will do before new year, but taking a break now after getting the 1.1 release done. Still, in Russia we get 10 days holiday for Christmas (7th January is Orthodox Crimbo) so will get plenty of time to play.

I finally tried this out today and I love it. I would also vote for a nymph and werewolf familiar if possible. Speaking of voting, I notice you gave your own submission a vote of 8. After seeing so many jerks voting themselves 10 for garbage, all I can say is that you are a gentleman and a scholar.

PS: The male pixie uses the NWN1 pixie image which is a female. The new release will have a male image. I think this is your problem.

What rows in the appearance.2da did you update? I have manually merged your work with Kaedrin's and Cyphre's so knowing what needs updating would help allot.

I figured that I must be missing something as the guy fairy has a girls thumbnail picture.

Thanks for the suggestions. I dont think several of those fit, others do, but models could be a problem. Anyway, suggestions are always welcome.

Having a basilisk familiar could be a bit tricky though. Better have an apprentice with lots of stone of flesh scrolls nearby.

Other possible thought are:
1:Griffin
2:Pegasus(Horse model W/ wings, maybe a change in that they are smaller, and they have the feat that damage is calculated from Dex, and they would have high dex, low Str and med Con)
3:A Minotaur(straightforward hitter)
4:A Lycan(werewolf, bonus at night, drow-like weakness during the day)
5: Hydra(another lizard based familiar, for those RPing Yuan-ti spellcasters out there.)
6: Phoenix(a Good only type of bird, not sure if the bat template could be edited to resemble this or not, does fire damage, could steal the Hellhound cone blast, would make sense to have high Dex. Maybe regen as well, to make up for the "rebirth" expectation phoenixes normally have)
7: Unicorn(this might be more for Cyphre, but could get a nice touch based spell, could also be the offset to the nightmare. Unicorn is good only, does frost damage maybe. Also could stun on hit perhaps.
8: Roc (Neutral/Evil based version of the Phoenix. Note sure how to tweak the differences)

Anyways, these are some thoughts of some different ones. I by no means expect all or any of them done. I really enjoyed what has been done so far. Keep up the good work. I know some of these are very "classic"familiars, but, I find they are classics for a reason. I also read where you like to have some suggestions/inspirations. Hope this might help in some way.

I had a couple of thoughts on some possible additions to the familiars. I was reading some of the other posts and found the one about the possibility of a snake based familiar. I agree that snake only based creatures fit in with Cyphre's creatures better, but what about the possibility of a Basilisk. A snake(or lizard, depending on your mythological choices) that would have a good ab and dmg roll, and the addition of possibly a chance to paralyze/stun or poison(I would like to say both, but not sure if that would make it too overpowered). The basilisk could also benefit from some of the standard snake like skills, like move silent and hide.

@navyosteopath - hi, thanks for voting. Do you mean different coloured regular cats, or do you mean BIG cats (panther, lion, etc)?

If you mean the regular cats, its not something i am interested in doing as these are pretty weak, and the point of this pack is to make familiars that are actually useful.

I'm a big fan of cats (have 4 of the ****** at home), but what attacks could you give them? Claw in legs attack? Shed fur? Vomit Furball? Rub against legs until gets food?
