This module helped me to understand a lot about modding and how a campaign works and I dare say has done so for many other people too, so thank you for taking the time to create this.
The fact that the title says "sample campaign" should be a good clue about it's content so anybody that has picked holes in it and voted it down should really save their energy, open it up with the toolset and learn how to make a module themselves.
ps sorry I took so long to vote ( we're looking at about 4 years ).
Most of the scripts used are campaign scripts, not module scripts. So when you get the Toolset working again, when you open one of the SSC modules click on the campaign scripts tab to see the list of scripts. The module scripts will only include the scripts that were unique to that module in the campaign.

This is wonderful, and a 'must have' for all who love to build but are hampered by too little knowledge about scripting. I opened the modules in the toolset, but only a handful of scripts show up, and a search brings back *all* of the NWN2 scripts, too much for me to find the right ones, because I'm not good at scripting, and moreover, I have a hard time understanding it. But I won't let that stop me. The campaign played fine though.
I loved the torches, the idea of hiding the sword under-water, the night/day walk of citizens and guards, and the changing of Randall from henchman to companion. The animals turning and mooing, oinking, etc. when I entered their barnyard was funny, so was Malin. "Hunting rabbits"? Are you a Bugs Bunny fan perchance? All in all a good show of what scripts can do for a builder, thank you Brendan.
About the toolset, that is most likely something on my end. Almost all modules open incomplete, missing areas, convos, etc. My external drive went to disc-drive heaven while attached and it messed up quite a lot of things in the process. MSWord lost its English dictionary, trying to open excel gives me a CTD, Lilac Soul's script generator lost its scroll-bar, etc. So that had no influence whatsoever on my vote. Unfortunately I'm looking at re-installs of a lot of software, or worse, a complete formatting.
For those having difficulty playing, I have some suggestions. First, take the time to explore, there are many items and much experience you will only get if you do so. If your characters are level 2 at the end you have not explored enough. Second, consider downloading the walkthrough. Third, when facing enemies use the items you have, do not just go in swinging or you are likely to go down swinging.
Also, a reminder that the primary purpose of this campaign is not to create a great playing module, although I think it does a good job of that. Its primary purpose is to allow modders a simple campaign to examine that has many of the techniques and scripts in it that a campaign requires.
There are plenty of ways to take out the vamps. It isn't supposed to be easy though. Don't be bitter, just try again. I am proud of my writing skills, why thank you. Seems like you are allowing your inability to deal with a villain to impact your vote. That's too bad. Ironic, since the fact that you care so much to vote me down indicates that you did in fact enjoy playing the module. Sorry it was too difficult for you.

Okay, so a vampire lord kills your party of second level PCs just like that. You must be proud of your writing skills. The 5 is generosity. What were you thinking?
Gems of Power assumes a new character, but any low level character should be fine as long as you do not also import high-level items, since doing so will likely throw off the balance.
Hi, Brendan,
Thanks for the info. What is the starting level for Gems of Power? Justin Dana is a Ranger2/Rogue 2. If the level is appropriate, I'll use him for Gems of Power.
I'm spending my copious spare time ;) developing my Gems of Power campaign. I don't intend to expand the SSC, although I will add scripts and other things to it that I think would help other campaign developers and update it when I determine a better way to do something. In act, I will be uploading a new version within a week or so. If making it more helpful will require adding additional areas and quests then I will probably do that, although I have no current plans to do so.
Hi, Brendan,
Are you planning any additions to the campaign? If so (and I'd really like to see some!), I'd like to save my character. If not, I'll use him in other mods.
I'll give some thought to posting my scripts in some kind of document. The hesitancy I would have about it is that (1) as I learn more about scripting I change my techniques, but do not always go back and retrofit older scripts, and (2) my scripts are only tested in single-player mode and I only test in my modules, so I cannot guarantee they always work.

First off, I had fun playing this. And with the limitations you list it was very well done.
Second and most important, I LOVED the idea of awarding XPs for unlocks and disarms. I've cut and pasted them into my own works exactly as you entered the scripts, I'm new at this and wanted something to do just what you did. I've left the credit for you there (hey it is your work you should get credit for it).
Have you thought about posting a list of your "general" scripts - as an old Pacal/COBOL programmer I love how "clean" your scripts are. Would love to see more.

The roadwalker script works if you set the waypoints up correctly, otherwise the roadwalker npcs look strange popping in and out unexpectantly. I am now trying to expand it so that the npcs have more than a few waypoints to randomly choose from. Let me know how it goes for you. :) _________________________

I will check out the night watchmen, as I need some guards patrolling the streets in the evenings. Have you tried the road walker script yet? That's the one I am working on incorporating right now - to get the look of traffic going through the town. I've upgraded my vote to reflect the additions to your campaign...thanks for all the great work so far! _________________________

I've uploaded v1.4. This version adds in a night watchman in Hilltop that walks around at night (as opposed to other citizens that walk around during the day). It also includes the changes for v1.3 including a rest/wandering monster/constable script and enhancements to the walking around scripts.
I've released v1.02. It corrects a bug in the companion conversations, adds some trees, adds torches that can be lit manually or automatically at nightfall, and allows the citizens to walk to their homes, and open and close their doors. These are things I have developed for my Gems of Power campaign and thought I would retrofit them in SSC as well.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll try to include more flora and fauna and rocks in my Gems of Power areas.
Regards.

Sorry Kaldor, haven't been here for a while (there are so many other mods out there.. ;-) ), but to give you an impression of my perspektive: the Hilltop Hill seemed rather "naked" to me! I missed some trees and/or grass and/or rocks and the like, e.g. (Not to speak of events/encounters on the way up there..)
Same is true somehow even for the market area, although there is a much better atmosphere already.. _________________________ Aka Gront0307 - because of a second adress..;-)
Thanks for the comments. You are correct it is too short to be truly a "campaign", if by campaign you mean a long adventure. In NWN2 though a campaign is simply a multi-module adventure in which the modules are linked, usually by a world map. As a sample campaign it includes the necessary scripts and techniques to show developers how to create a campaign. I felt this was needed because (1) I am writing a campaign, and (2) almost all NWN2 uploads have been modules, not campaigns, indicating to me that authors may not be sure how to create a campaign. So while it has limited playability it is intended really as a developers aid and so did not need to be very long. I would appreciate more specifics regarding your "heavy need of area polishing" statement though. What do you think was so lacking in the areas? Your feedback may be helpful as I create the areas for my Gems of Power campaign. Regards.

Promising as a "sample", it's extremely short for a "campaign", has got a simplistic plot (although a nice little surprise in the end) and would be in heavy need for some area polishing.
Nevertheless - bugfree for me and certainly "deserves a look" ! _________________________ Aka Gront0307 - because of a second adress..;-)

If I hadn't read your tipps I'd never found this legendary sword - be it for the better or the worse. It's a beautiful weapon though.. :-)
Remembering the good old days of Baldur's Gate by the way where there was a strict level restriction for this kind of weapons and gear! (Which was then hacked of course... ;-) )
I'm not thru yet so my vote will follow the next days. _________________________ Aka Gront0307 - because of a second adress..;-)
sad_eyed,
Thanks for the comments, I'm glad you enjoyed it. The SSC was a proving ground for me to prove to myself that I could do something on a small scale with the basic functions I'll need for a larger effort. I have the larger effort (which I am calling The Gems of Power Campaign) plotted and the companions made (11 of the puppies, including Randall, Kallie, and Amie), but that is as far as I have gotten so far. I hope to make a lot of progress on it over the next two months. It should have enough in it to develop a new character up to 12th level or so and have many hours of gameplay. So it is indeed going to be much, much bigger. I'll try to tone down my natural inclination toward great loot. The "Sword of Cheese", incidentally, is based on the Dymondheart sword described in the DnD Weapons of Legacy. The characteristics are not a perfect match, but I thought they made some sense. I completely agree that it is not the kind of thing that should be found in a stream by a 1st level character though. I put it in SCC purely for fun.

Some elegant scripts, some very well done moments.
The loot level is way too high even without the "Sword of Cheese".
But it's a nice way to get a new character to level 3. I would really like to see something bigger by you.
buckwheezer,
No one has reported any bugs at all. It sounds like you are having problems with campaign items, almost as if there are items missing from the campaign folder. The conversations of the companions and the sword in the stream are campaign items, but Moe and the merchants are module items. Make sure you followed the installation instructions and copied the campaign folder into your NWN2 Campaigns folder and that you are starting the game as a campaign and not as a module.
Too many bugs. It is not just Amie but none of the potential henchpersons respond even though the other characters ( Mo, merchant) do. The sword in the stream - I cannot pick it up.
Amie will talk to anyone. Position the cursor over her and click to initiate the conversation. It doesn't matter what gender or race your PC is.
Like life there is no journal entry or manual telling you what to do. I suggest you explore and see what challenges present themselves.
There are enough weapons provided to allow you to take out the wolves. Look in any containers you find. In addition Amie and Kallie are available to assist you. If you cannot win a battle one way then try another.
