Yes, this is a remake of the original NWN's OC. Or at least the start of it.
Original story, original characters, all in the improved graphics of NWN2.
BUT...there are some things I should note before I get anyone's hopes too high.
1) First off, this is my first module to make with the NWN2 Toolset, ever! Also, all my script programming is self taught, done by trial and error and observing existing scripts. I still haven't discovered everything that the NWN Toolset has to offer, but I gave this my best shot. Constructive criticism is welcomed, of course, and I'll probably be getting a lot of it. Some helpful tutoring would be welcomed as well wherever.
2) This is a Beta version. I Alpha tested this as a Human, Male Paladin, my favorite class, and things seemed to work out well enough. How it works with others, I'm not so sure. I did alter the scripts to make this module Warlock playable, and they seemed to work okay. Not certain at the time of release, however.
3) Don't expect this to play EXACTLY like the original. For example:
a) This module is NOT a tutorial. I'm assuming you already know how to play using the NWN2 controls.
b) I've eliminated all the lengthy tutorial conversations. Bim was pretty much all this, so he doesn't make an appearance.
c) Pavel is a fully controllable companion. He doesn't gain any exp or levels, but he'll be gone by the end of the mod.
d) Dismissing Pavel causes him to respawn at spot where you first joined up instead of where you dismissed him.
4) This is just the Prelude. The mod ends when you exit the Stables.
5) Some assembly required. Please follow the instructions in the readme. You'll also need your own copy of NWN1 in order to see the opening and closing movies. This is not meant to be a copyright challenge, so I won't be making everything availible online.
6) Lastly, don't expect a remake of Chapter 1 to be released anytime soon, and please don't ask me for an ETA, 'cause I don't know. I'm just one guy who's trying to start college, and I have enough pressure from real life as it is.
I hope you all enjoy taking this trip down memory lane as you explore the NWN Academy. Seeing Aribeth, Fenthick, Desther, and even Pavel, in a new way really brushed the dust of this personal favorite of mine. Hey, it was the first module I ever finished. That's got to count for something, right?
My thanks go out to Nytir for the excellent rendition of Aribeth's armor. To Cyric_the_Dark for the Yaun-ti reskin. And of course to the Bioware team for making the original NeverWinter Nights.
WARNING!!!
This module has two points where it auto-saves the game! If you want to keep your current auto-save file, say, one for another mod, back it up before playing!
=======================================
Update 01/05/08: Some bugs debugged, at the ones I figured out how to fix.
1) Pavel will speak more slowly when saying good-bye.
2) Olgerd has learned the wisdom of finishing a conversation before opening shop.
3) Herban has gotten over his predjudice of monks and now accepts them as fighters.
4) Ketta will no longer speak in the cryptic code of "repeat one thing and mean something else."
5) Desther advised Fenthick that they should put away their crossbows before speaking, and, of course, Fenthick listens.

this is 95% close to the original but I enjoyed it more because it feels better when characters act as if they are real and don't tell you to press the rest button to rest because then you feel let down because I personally want to experience it as if I'm there (A more powerful version of me but that's beside the point) _________________________ Slayer

who cares about neverwinter? i fight for aribeth. (I really enjoyed the module but i have to add can you or someone make aribeth's armor as like nw1 it will be awesome)
I'm wondering why anyone would remake the horrible OC for nwn1... bioware admitted they threw it together late to 'showcase' a little of what the toolset could do. It's not a very good module.

Has great potential.
I agree that, though I love NWN1, I think there was room for improvement, Most has been said already. Considering the vast improvements between NWN1 and 2, I feel that 1 would look great with 2's engine/graphics and you modders here. After all, you all do a wonder service to us,, and I applaud you all. _________________________ Dalethfc
Okay, wow Oomo, that comment was completely uncalled for.

Trying to go by the voting standards here. Good and solid remake, but there's not that much game in it by itself. It's just the intro, after all. Seems like that "I can't let you through before you have leveled up" guy freaks out if you play as a race with LA, but the door opens nevertheless.

Well done, although I'm sorry that this project is now abandoned, I do understand that it is just too much for a single person. It is however, a great idea and hopefully due to your work, someone will pick it up. But it is definitely something that several people need to engage in.
Personally, I prefered HotU to all others, and not only because of (sigh) Valen Shadowbreath. Of all the NWN 1 & 2, this one is the only one with a great romance for females - and males for that matter - Nathyrra is nothing to sneeze at. Shame, really.
I was not going to rate this high, but for various reasons, I felt compelled to do so.
Thank you for putting out what you had done so far. Great effort, good work, and hopefully it is an inspiration for others to pick it up. All in all, thanks for a sweet glimpse of the NWN OC, NWN2 style.

"eyes bigger than the stomach" builder syndrome but surprised not. many too come to build with such unrealistic goals only come realize large amount of work that goes into making it happen.
the nwn remakes, iwd, bg... list grows but end result is always same.
5 for more than one can chew effort.

Yeahhh. You more or less recreated the prologue of the first NWN with 99% accuracy.
The problem is.. the NWN OC was pretty primitive and downright dull. Replaying this reminded me of that, only with better graphics. The simple and elementary design of the first game shows through in the second, which although somewhat nostalgic, makes me long for the story to be told in a more updated fashion.
I understand you're not finishing this project, and I can't blame you. The OC is very long. But I voted a 10 based on the accuracy of this recreation, which is what I assume the point of it was.
I was working on remaking HotU, but I will consider it. If anybody is willing to team up, I would appreciate it!

Shivarkah Viswords,
Thank you for putting this together, I certainly enjoyed myself.
I really enjoyed all the voice overs, they were extremely well done, are these from the NWN 1 O.C.? _________________________ Help is good when asked for,

Very good adaptation. Excacltly as NWN1. Thank you
I for one appreciate your letting everyone know your desire to put this project aside and the offer to allow someone to continue in your stead. I wish others that start a project would do the same. Many very good ideas just stop. If people would put what they have finished up for general use, I am sure many of these projects would see the light of day eventually. Thanks for what you have done and good luck on any future endeavors. _________________________ Failure is not an option

I dont't understand if I have to put all the folders, as they are in the override folder or if I only put the files in the ovverride and not the differents folders. Could someone answer me please ?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I'M MELTING!
Not really it is a great pity to hear that one such as your self has so easily "given up" the task that I think quite possibly would have been something great but I suppose thats the way things are.
Any way just so you know if you do choose to keep on going know that you will have some one waiting in anticipation and excitement and I am sure I am not the only one.
I've been reluctant to say this, but it needs to be said.
How to put this so I don't have an angry mob coming after me...
Sorry to dissapoint, especially for such a big item as this, but I'm going to have to put this project on hold...possibly indefinitely.
If anyone feels the desire to finish what I could not, please feel free to, and good luck with those city exteriors as I've discovered that the NWN1 and NWN2 buildings have NOTHING in common.
As for my myself, I'm bidding the community a fond farewell for now. My thanks to those that downloaded, voted, and commented, and my apologies to those who's hopes I've shattered.
It was fun while it lasted, everyone. Thanks again.

Surprised at lack of votes and probably downloads. This was based on NWN OC, it kicked off NWN!
Played through with a cleric (intention of becoming a stormlord) and OK for a few hours gaming.
Only prob for me is I must have downloaded incorrectly as no voices. My fault there.
Looking forward to anything new of which I will definitely give it a go.
thank you for your time

I demmand you finish this i have been waiting ages and i was getting really exsited comn man how long can it take!!!
A promising start, although I've got to admit that I was always quite so-so about the OC and would much rather see a remake (with a couple of missing dialogues added) for HOTU. (Sidenote to eric_the_blue - I tried the same as you and got the same problem).
I couldn't find any huge bugs with the Prelude and it ran smoothly. With the last couple of cutscenes it feels like there could be a few small tweaks. Fenthick needs to face Desther when he's talking to him and also Pavel's gestures during the 'you saved my life' talk were wildly exaggerated - perhaps cut down on the animations in that scene somewhat.
10 - A Masterpiece, Genuinely Groundbreaking 9 - Outstanding, a Must Have 8 - Excellent, Recommended to Anyone 7 - Very Good, Deserves a Look 6 - Good, Qualified Recommendation 5 - Fair, Solid yet Unremarkable 4 - Some Merit, Requires Improvements 3 - Poor Execution, Potential Unrealized 2 - Very Little Appeal 1 - Not Recommended to Anyone
