The Life and Times of our hero Jon Barleycorn.......... and a little voices project.............
*The advantage of a one-person team creating your modules, you always know WHO made the mistake.. !LOL!
Please let me introduce myself
My name is Michael Brown (GrandaddyBonegrinder). I'm a 58-year-old iconoclast, happily married to my soulmate, Lingaz.
My hobbies include metal-art, web-site design, computer graphic art and (of course) fantasy role-playing. I have been a DM, creating scenarios for my loyal fans, for more than 30 years. My take on most computer role-playing games
1. Censorship takes away from the "reality of the fantasy" ("G rating").
2. You always have to kill everybody (with few exceptions).
3. You are always rushed through the early levels (because you're so weak).
With the above three items in mind, I created The Ritual, my first experience with the NWN2 toolset.
My primary goals for this module were: First and foremost, the Ritual was created so I could learn the toolset, and create a fun and unique single player game for my wife, kids and friends to enjoy
My secondary goals were to incorporate a non-lethal fight routine, place
my original artwork in the NWN2 picture frames and begin the saga of Jon Barleycorn.
Unlike many of the NWN2 modules where you create your own character, The Ritual is designed to play the pre-made character named: Jon Barleycorn. Jon is an 18 year old, human male.
All the files for upload are below.
NOTE!... The Ritual is a work in progress and will be updated frequently...

Thanks
Even though I was my own team, I owe the success of this mod to many, many others
Much thanks to my soul mate Lingaz and all my family for their loving support!
Thanks to everyone on the Bioware, Khalidine and Citadel forums!
Special thanks to Hamster009 for the Fem Pack...
A compilation of Aleanne's Clothing packs 1,2 and 3, Jester's Chainmail, Zylch000's Base nudes, all heads from Eressil's plastic surgery pack and all female hair from Whatbrick's character customize collection.
Cutscene basic tutorial by jackyo123 - This is where I started reading and doing trying to grasp of concepts scripting and conversations in the toolset. An excellent place for the newbe to start I might add.
Akak - For some reason (maybe it was the 70's) I simply could not grasp the NWScript with all the includes and different commands, I was totally lost. Then Akak wrote me a little script using one of my own characters and suddenly the light bulb went off. I had been searching for a single way to write the code, when, as Akak showed me, there can be a variety of ways to accomplish the intended goal. This was a major hurdle overcome.
Sgt_Why - module back-up batch - THE MOST IMPORTANT TOOL FOR THE MODULE BIULDER!
I love this program and use it religiously... what a true life saver!

Not earthshaking but definitely a lot of fun. The first time through I somehow got down into the tunnels that lead to the end without going through much of the early game.

My feedback from The Ritual can be read from the official review, here are the points. _________________________ A good module author is PAG: Patient, Ambitious and Gutsy.
Alright, never mind, I found it... though I thought sure I covered every square inch of the place the first time. Guess I just missed the one spot I needed.
like khazard77, I'm also stuck in the room with lots of dead guys, with what seems to be no way out.
It's right after going down the hall from the fire girls room, ...then you transition and are in a room-like cave with a bunch of skeletons and two gates/doors. you can go through the one gate, and there are more dead guys, but just a dead end. But the other gate which leads to where you want to go, doesn't seem to be openable. I'll poke around some more, maybe I missed something.
And one other thing that I was curious about. upstairs at the end of one of the halls with lights, there was a chest with stuff in it, and one item was an amber colored vile that says it was warm and glowing (or something like that). Problem was, I couldn't take it out of the box. Just got this error message in my dialogue window saying it was not transferable, or droppable, or something. is this important?
Indestructible door and chests could prevent such confusion.
will do! Thanks for the heads up...

Still laughing! The story of poor Jon Barleycorn's quest to find his brother was so hilarious I just have to rate it at least excellent, though it was a little short and I do have complaints.
My opinion...
The module needs a beginning and an ending. The abrupt ending is rather frustrating, and it would be nice with a little intro, just loosely explaining the background.
The log and maps could be a bit more helpful with more details at some points, especially because you seldom can get the amazons to repeat their instructions. If you don't pay a lot of attention during the conversations, you can end up feeling a little lost.
Bugs...
I am in the habit of bashing everything, especially if it has a lock that I can't pick, but if you do that to the chests on the altars in the UnderChambes, you won't be able to complete the ritual, and can therefore get a little stuck if you promise to help the queen.
One solution is to also bash the door to the exit, but then you get confronted by Nathan's ghost, although he is not dead, and the living Nathan turns into an experience machine, giving 1000 xp every time you talk to him.
Indestructible door and chests could prevent such confusion.
After reading your comments, I have to believe that you have either a very early release of the mod or it was somehow corrupted during your upload
FYI
Spoiler
Obviously, the object of your quest is of course to find your lost brother that is indeed the only reason you left the safety of the family store to begin with
Whichever ending you choose will accomplish this goal

Ending choice #1:
a) Destroy the Vampire queen with the holy water and smash the bloodstones.
b) Placing the Essences you brought with you from above into their perspective chests on the altars will:
1) Summon in a benevolent Earth Elemental ensuring the success of the Ritual
2) Open the final door.
Ending choice #2:
a) Free the Vampire Queen and smash the Essences
b) Placing the bloodstones in the chests on the altars will:
1) Free the Vampire to feast on all those above, forever ending the Ritual
2) Open the final door
Exiting the final door will lead to a hallway encounter with your brothers ghost Mission accomplished.
Bummer that you had so many problems I know how frustrating that can be...
All that eye candy and no interaction, except getting my but kicked...Sigh!

Well, I said I'd critique this when I finished so I guess I'm obligated to do so. It's a long, rather boring FedEx mod; go here, get this, bring it back, now take a message to X, bring back a reply, go talk to Y etc etc. The scenery is enlivened by lots of tough-talking, semi-naked seven-foot-tall amazons for whom you carry out a variety of tasks. Several hours of this lead up to a non-ending (spoilers below).
There are some nice touches, like the cat and kittens that wander around the hall, the dancers, sparring warriors and clever humor that show the author put a lot of effort into the mod. But in the end, I felt I had wasted my time. The last scene hints at a sequel, but I won't be here for it. I'm voting 3.5 because it really falls between two categories: Some Merit, Potential Unrealized.

After all this running about, you get to the finale and (1) fight the vampire and die, (2) fight the ghasts to free her and have the game crash or (3) just walk out. Bash down a door and leave. No sign of the amazons you've been helping all along, no further mention of the tainted Ritual they were seeking to resolve, no resolution of the tribal rivalries you'd been patiently keeping track of, just level-up and adios. _________________________ Been a long day. I could use a drink.

DaNippers, how in hell can you vote 9.5 for a module you admit you haven't played, much less comment on its professional merits? This vote should be removed.
I have finally gotten it to run after months of hoping, am playing it and will try to give a more coherent and grammatical critique when finished. _________________________ Been a long day. I could use a drink.
thanks for the vote and the kind words...
It makes all the hard work worthwhile!

Haven't played it, and not going to play it, But wanted to give points to a proffessional job, done proffessionally, and I also liked the packs and Design ideas, besides that I agree WHOLE heartedly on the three disapointing facts made about most games lol So wanted to promote ya guy... But I don't play standard RPG's (Ones that say you are so and so, as opposed to let you be who you like0 but that aside I'd LOVE To see you put your talent to a module that didn't contsrain in that area :) this one sounded so interesting till I hit that snag, lol _________________________ "We came, We saw, we kicked .... OH MY GOD! RUN!!!!!"
I had the same problem when I tried to load it. I got it to run after going into the toolset and removing "ritual" from the hakpak line in the module properties screen

INSTRUCTIONS - This mod is designed for play on NWN2 with the MOTB expansion pack.
Install NWN2 and the MOTB expansion pack on your computer, and then fire up the game.
Choose Update from the NWN2 main menu. Please be sure your game is updated to 1.011.
Not tested at 1.012
I have the latest update and my override folder was empty. When I try to load the module, the load screen goes dim and it locks up. Is there a log file somewhere I can check?
Please don't fume at me, this is just a thought - have you ever considered modding for NWN1? I would love to see what you could do with 1.60 and CEP 2.1 when they come out.
Either way, I am really looking forward to the next installment of this series. I played it all the way through, and I loved it.
