"Know, O Prince, that between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities, and the years of the rise of the Sons of Aryas, there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars." - The Nemedian Chronicles.
Such half-legendary fragments are all that remain to tell of the Hyborian Age and its greatest hero, Conan.
This Campaign combines and updates the three individual Conan modules I uploaded earlier. There are many bug-fixes and enhancements, including a full Hyborian world range of items and fully custom Character creation, including custom races and deities.
You can play the Campaign as Conan, or as a hero of your own design, following your career from its beginning as a youth among the barbarian Aesir, to your eventual rise to claim the throne of Aquilonia, the most powerful Hyborian kingdom.
"Legions of the Dead", the first adventure in the "Conan Chronicles 1 - The Barbarian Chronicles" campaign, describes the first recorded exploits of the young Conan, when as a youth of sixteen summers he fled his home in Cimmeria to join with a band of Northern barbarians in the frigid land of Asgard. The original short story was written by L. Sprague de Camp and Lin Carter, based of course on the collection of Conan stories by Robert E Howard.
But you do not have to be Conan. Any class or race may be played. However in the Hyborian Age there are generally no demi-humans and classes that use magic are rare, and those that use priestly magic rarer still.
You do NOT have to be a barbarian; the name of the campaign simply refers to your exploits in the barbarian lands to the north of the Hyborian kingdoms. The Barbarian Chronicles continue with "The Scythian Pits" and "The Thing in the Crypt".
The adventures will take a single starting 1st level PC up to around 13th level.
This adventure continues with a second campaign, "Conan Chronicles 2 - The Zzamorian Chronicles" describing your exploits carving a niche for yourself in the civilised kingdoms and often at odds with local authorities.
Good luck.
IMPORTANT NOTE: When finished with the adventure, as for all modules with custom races, please remove your PC from the localvault folder when you remove the Conan custom 2das from the override folder. Otherwise, it can crash subsequent games when you enter the select/create character screen.

Awesome module.
Some Spoilers:
It's a masterpiece - no question. Also I seldom get to play modules where the player gets captured, enslaved and tortured (which positively was only hinted) in such a way that I really feel with the character and want to flee (or kill) the whole environment. ;>
Very immersive conan feeling (even while playing a 1.6m high female human rogue).
I'll definitely play it again! Next time less stealthy and more conanish. :>
The loss of my so loved items was first a bit disappointing but in the end it made me feel the tension to survive a hundred fold more. And damn was it hard! ^^ (in a good way).
Only had to use the console once to fix a quest bug where I had killed a certain golem before I got the quest to do so. (I always explore before doing the talk stuff ^^).
Really enjoying this mod. It crashes every time I jump off the log being chased by wolves. I loved being able to take everyone on even if it was highly dangerous.
This looks great. I really loved the comic books. But I can get it to work. I have both the expansions of NWN2. When I try to start one of the 3 campaings of Conan, it says it is incomplete or that it uses some new toolset. Am I doing this wrong? I just downloaded the SP campaing and placed the files on Override folder.

Awesome module. Very good reenactment of Conan's adventures if you play the original Conan or an opportunity to retrace his steps with another kind of hero. Lots of details and choices. The rescue of Rann is the ultimate NWN2 stealth experience. Also, the gladiator arena has overthrown Dark Sun and KotOR and is now my favourite arena part of a CRPG.
A suggestion: Falchion is historically a one-handed weapon. You already have a Great Tulwar magical item so you could use tulwar for the two-handed curved blade.

Outstanding! I loved every minute of it, except the door bug in the arena where the opponent fails to enter. I realized that I was probably causing that myself by clicking through the dialogue so that they never got time to get through. So after starting all over again with that in mind, never again had the problem. But really great stuff in every other facet.

I've just finished playing this having taken a brief modding rest, cleared out my override ( it's been a while ) and created a mean looking barbarian and off I went.
From a players point of view I'm not very good at combat but found this to be well balanced for my pure barbarian battle axe man with me holding my breath for the next blow on a lot of occasions but never hitting the respawn ( very rare indeed ). The only problem I had was with the ghasts so I just avoided them and left them drooling around in the caves and the floor of traps which I just about scraped through with no more potions left. But all in all found these modules to be thoroughly enyertaining and I'll be continuing my adventure with part 2 very soon.
From a builders point of view I am in awe of the ammount you have put into this from the detailed journal and lore to the custom items and scripts that would probably terrify me. Bug free all the way too, now with all the stuff going on that is impressive especially the scythian pits and the timing of events.
I don't know whether or not Mr Schwartzenegger ( I have no idea how to spell that ) would have signed up for the film role knowing how long he'd have to wear a set of "gimp" armour if he'd been my Conan ( I only found the armourer just before the last fight ) but I found it highly amusing.
All in all I had a blast and am really glad to have played this, keep up the good "work".
Masterpiece, Genuinely Groundbreaking ? Of course it is, to have me not cheating well that's a major achievement in itself without the other stuff that I cannot even start to comprehend how you managed to make work.
Hi John just found this after reloading NWN2 , I have updated NWN2 to latest version and notice a couple of things
I followed you instructions with deploying the mod but get a few textures missing during the race selection screen
Also having gone through the character creation and initial meeting with Mitra the game crashes to desktop as soon as it starts

Actually, I don't have to go back to the beginning, but I do have to go to the beginning of Castle Haloga. ouch

I have the same problem Tamkan had. So, I just have to start the whole thing over again? There's no way to remedy this? I hate to go all the way back to the beginning! Yikes!

Amazing game and storytelling. It was a pity that "The Thing in the Crypt" was quite short. I also found very awkward playing a barbarian. Maybe this game is more rogue oriented, but if so, it should be called "The Rogue Chronicles" haha
Being three distinct chapters this is a difficult one for me to rate.
{minor spoilers}
Loved the 1st and 3rd parts, the middle section not so much. I had no knowledge of Conan before playing but I appreciate now that the 2nd part is integral to the story and background even though I found it a bit repetitive after a while. That is not to say it isn't well done, the challenges in the arena present a variety of enemies and strategies not merely an increase in their level as you progress. Also I appreciate that it is integral to the story that Conan (or whoever you play) has to feel that escape is impossible and the only way out might be in a coffin! So purely subjectively, as a player without a fondness for combat and without the character build at the time to explore other avenues of escape or raise cash all the arena challenges got a bit relentless for me, and disappointing that I couldn't escape unaccompanied (after so much effort to make a special friend LOL) but to reiterate that it was very well implemented.
I would still fully recommend this though before moving on to CC2 and hopefully some sequels, because it does give you the background to the character. _________________________ Take me out to the black, tell them I ain't coming back;

Thanks for putting this together, and almost single handedly spurring me on to buy the Robert Howard books, with a little help from the movies too :-) Loved the incorporation of the soundtrack! Simply put, immersion generating themes and kept the mood tied in! Hi John,
For sure your reply is a bit late but thank you
nevertheless.
Meanwhile I played the zamorian chronicles and they are really among the best of the best.
Congrats!! _________________________ TAMKAN
Just some replies as I popped by the site, probably too late to be of help.
Tamkan - That arena bug drives me mad. Never been able to replicate it enough to fix it. Happens less than 1 in a 100, and something to do with the NPC not walking forwards in the cutscene if buffing I think, despite several failsafes. I thought I did a failsafe jump at the end of the cutscene. I think I do an autosave when going into the arena.
Ultron - I can't believe there could be such a bug, not at the very beginning which has been tested thousands of times I imagine. The old man is not the leader. You talk to the Jarl, or he talks to you, and only then can you talk to the old man.
Bach - No you are not supposed to kill the Queen, you are supposed to sneak out as you are 16 years old and not ready to face one of the 4 most powerful sorcerers of the age. Maybe in another adventure... in the books, Conan is in his 60s when I finishes her, I think. Just before he defeats Thulsa Doom. There's got to be some things you are not ready to face on your first adventure or what's the point in gaining experience over an epic lifetime?
Paul - you are probably right about prestige pack incompatibility. The Hyborian age has its own custom sets of races and feats.
Niemroth - I can't remember even how to set that, its not a switch on the campaign or module properties I can see, perhaps a flag on a loading script. Anyway, consider my module "default" behaviour. Posibly its something set when creating a multiplayer game. You could surely test.
Avo & MrKelevra - thanks! Re the enjoyment second time, I think its a mood thing. You might be going in with the idea you're going to test some new character build or its going to be like such and such a module, and then its much more story based with a different setting, a slow start and tough encounters. That's why I got annoyed when people voted a 3 or something because they said it was linear and they got as far as their first wolf! When you get to Arenjun, you might look back at how it all started with your raid on Castle Haloga so long ago.

Good work indeed. Unfortunately bug in the 2nd opus but still very intersting. Last chapter less fascinating. _________________________ TAMKAN

Dear Dr Sungh,
I'm really enjoying the scythian pyth but I'm facing a real Pb. When defending against Freya the fight is not possible as she stands behind the gates. I don't know what to do. Can you help me please ? _________________________ TAMKAN
Help! Think I've got a bug. I can't seem to get the leader of the tribe to talk to me. I've leveled up, killed and skinned the stag, gone and done the firewood quest with iggi, but no matter what I do, the old man won't talk to me.
How it was possible to kill queen haloga in the tower ?

I just replayed it to get in the mood for part 2 and in hindsight I need to raise my vote (from 8,5 tp 9,5). It's marvelous. A handful of glitches aside this is one of my best playing experiences in NWN2.
Went through it this time with a Sorc and it was really tough at times. I tried to make some different choices and explored some new storylines.
I've just played about an hour into Part 2 and I'm already hooked. It's really a great series. I hope there will be a part 3 at some point.

I really enjoyed this campaign as a stealthy warrior. The first section was very challenging, the Scythian Pits were refreshing, if time consuming and a wee repetitive near the end, and I thoroughly enjoyed the Crypts. My character was an INT-based fighter, so all of those undead really wrecked me. A great challenge, and a great feeling of accomplishment once I finally made it out. Thanks for your hard work! I've downloaded the second chapter already, and I look forward to experiencing more of your work.
I only encountered a few small bugs, nothing game-breaking. I did encounter incompatibility with Saralach's Warlock changes, though. The custom warlock feats show up, but the new spells are not shown. I know close to nothing about modding, but I suspect it's some kind of dialog.tlk issue. It's clearly not your fault, but I was really looking forward to seeing my enemies driven before me via infernal magics. I'd greatly appreciate any tips you might have to get yours and Saralach's mods working together.
To Dr_Singh, first of all thank you for sharing your Conan-modules with the NWN-community.
I've got one question, do your modules enforce legal characters?
I want to play your campaigns with a Conan-pc, who uses Conan's original D&D stats; Str 18 Dex 18 Con 18 Int 12 Wis 11 Cha 17. The only way to archieve that would be the debug codes, but I'm unsure if your modules accept a "cheated" pc.
Thanks for the comments. I'll look in more detail when I've done more polishing of chapter 2. Just to say re Symbia, there is a command SetScriptSets or something similar; if you set it to 3, any NPC you run this function on takes on companion behaviours.
Wil Connall - once he has let you know that you are a free man - approoach you and ask you to help him against Gurthak, or wil this option no longer be available?

Oops, forgot to vote.
Might as well give an actual review to go with the experimental one.
An excellent campaign but Scythian Pits was unbalanced and ludicrously easy for me (even without my previously posted tweak). I played a Shemite Favored Soul of Mitra. Finished at 13th level. Shemite gives Able Learner and (remembering Conan's rogue-type days) I took a few point of rogue skills which opened those plots to me.
SPOILERS
One complaint: I mowed through half-dozen or so Scythian Pit gladiators on one spell... Blindness. No one resisted it and I butchered to my hearts content. I rarely even took damage. The summoners did some damage but that's about it. I didn't even summon my own or un-summon theirs, though I could have. Basically, with Blindness and a few Cure-type spells I was unstoppable. Even the buffs and summons became optional for me. If you haven't finished that update yet, you may want to give some gladiators Blind-Fight feats or resistance/immunity to even things up. Just an observation. _________________________ "In life, one and one don't make two. One and one make one."
