NWN2:MotB
Description
First chapter of the campaign King for a Day by the team of CielosOscuros.com.
This campaign narrates the history of one of the most charismatic characters in the continent of Elenya: Belegia.
You will incarnate the soldier and hero whom its destiny between the legend of the light trees and the faith and war between the factions of the Gods looks for.
More information, please read the attached pdf for installation notes, contents and warnings to play this module, thanks.
This module only needs the MotB expansion (it does not require SoZ at the moment but is fully compatible too (but for the borked ai)).
This is a translation for the original module "Rey por un Día" written in Spanish, mainly done for the English people that trusted me and wanted to play in the enviroment and ideas of the Spanish Persistent world Cielos Oscuros.
Translation credits:

Qkrch - Scripts and production
Viriatus - TLK
Palafoxx and Rhaenys (ClanDlan.net) - Main translation

Many thanks to them and their exhausting work, you made it true in a single month. Bravo!
-Unrar the package in My Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2 (it should not override any file, so don't worry)
-Make sure your override folder is empty (I don't use overrides)
-Start the game. New Game, New Campaign
-Choose "King for a Day"
-Create your level 1 character with the given specifications or choose the character "Belegia" included in the package.
- Try to enjoy :)
GAMEPLAY NOTES:
------------------------
- Based on Cielos Oscuros custom enviroment: don't get confused with names, descriptions and some funny notes :) We love to be like this and say "good weather" instead of "good morning".
- You can only play a male human with melee class (fighter, ranger, barbarian, paladin, cleric..). Lore is recommended and to use a sword.
- This module has Autosave function, mostly recommended to use only these (for the moment).
- Strategy action, you will find only some places for resting. These are always near statues and possibly not so visible. After a rest you will recover your HPs and time will pass.
- If Belegia dies, game over.
- When you're playing the future role, you will find a "ghost" character in your party, this is normal, select the portraited character.
- Try to not get confused with the "time jumps" and its relation to the journal.
- About the sword panel: if you lose it, try to reequip the sword. If you're playing a poor resolution... maybe the panel shows in a corner mixing with other ui screens, you can move the sword panel clicking on the skull of the art represented sword.
- Bardelor and the future pcs cannot level up.
- The custom Crypt tileset by Witness has some camera problems, play it with strategy camera or you will get annoyed.
- There are no cities and almost no stores in this module, play strategically trying to keep your healing resources (otherwise would be too easy).
- Try to play it quietly and wisely, you will enjoy it more than running or xploiting.
AUTHOR NOTES:
--------------------------------
Read before commenting or voting.
King for a Day is a very special, personal and experimental project and possibly much different of what you can find in other modules. First of all is based on the custom world Cielos Oscuros that has been alive 6 years thanks to nwn. It's a gift to those builders, players and lovers that always wanted to know how was Belegia's life.
This campaign will be divided in 4 parts: Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring. And everyone of them will have a different kind of gameplay, from action until roleplay or strategy.
This first module (Summer)is a prelude to the next adventures where you will begin at first level and you'll live pure action and long cutscenes most of all. It is inside a "Hack n slash" category because I thought the best way to introduce people to the custom enviroment of CO was some good action.
So, as designed, you won't find a module with many roleplay options, a city for resting, a romance, or many quests and subquests.
Plot is linear, designed like this to act like a movie, but you will find some decision options and some easy puzzles. I'm trying to warn you of what you will find in this module and that the next chapters will change the gameplay fully.
The idea of showing the main character in a future was very risky and can be a little confusing, but the result is funny to play. I guess that this stuff , the number of cutscenes and the linear plot will never find their way in the next modules.
Mostly my work with NWN since 2002 has been mosty experimental, showing other builders what can be done with the toolset and KFAD I think will inspire many builders out there (custom content, scripts, systems, area design...), on the other hand, common players (and roleplay gurus) will feel odd, confused and possibly won't realize the work in the module. If you're a faithful and consagrated NWN player... my advice is playing it with an open mind.
About the translation, after testing it in English I realized that semantics were very strong, translating from Spanish to English has been a wicked work cause the original written text in Spanish was in a classic medieval style, full of phrased stuff that has no real translation in English (I read words in the English translation that I never imagined they existed). Of course, there will be always some typos (as I saw and fixed many even when there was a native speaker review of the text). If you're a good English linguist don't hesitate to ask me for the text if you want to help.

This module looked promising, but unfortunately I had too much trouble with glitches and gave up.
1. Brolgram did not join.
What happened was that the 'art_heal' script broke the cutscene conversation. In the end I removed the heal action from the cutscene allowing him to join properly, then ran 'art_heal' manually in debug mode later.
2. Did not progress to next area.
When I opened the door in the ruin I got the cutscene about the cleric + amulet but after that was over I was still in the ruin (only all the other party members had been removed).
3. Weird pathing(?) glitch.
The first time I went to the ruin I clicked on the locked door from a great distance and let my character find his way down. For some reason he arrived _inside_ the ruin next to the (still locked) door. This also meant skipping the massacre cutscene. I have no idea how he got there.
That was a very good review, thanks _________________________ The Ancient NWN Spanish Community Link

Now, that's something different. While most fantasy modules follow the same "baldursgatish" pattern of quest-packed exploring adventure, this mod is more akin to sympho-powermetal groups like Rhapsody of Fire and Thy Majestie, with its over-the-top heroics, cliched but catchy tunes and hyperspeed non-stopping action. It's not only the mod music that gives that hints, it's the overall style, and it works. In fact, it makes this mod one of the funniest action mods on the vault, and although I'm absolutely not a fan of action mods, and was very critical about mod's plot (just how more trips along with elf and dwarf to fight the old evil I should survive?) despite all this, I felt involved. It's mostly about visuals and pacing: grandiose (althouth sometimes needing additional attension) landscapes, atmospheric (although having terrible problems with camera) indoor tileset, and terribly cliched, but effective in its own weird "rhapsodish" way cutscenes. Good programming tricks, too. As for the plot two things I really liked was the time shifts and the way Marie was added into pantheon, thus making the mod closer to the real history, or, to be more precise, folklore about crusades and other medieval heroics. There's much more things about the plot I disliked, like following the same fantasy patterns over and over, but when the mod tries to break that heroic pattern, it agains comes out too obvious and too simply put, not really a plot hook but rather an unprepared attempt to make it. But that's just a cool action mod, after all, it should be played with your brains off
Bugs:
1. First action area: if Bardelor is selected as a current hero, cutscene breaks prematerely during healing, and dwarf doesn't join.
2. Flying castle: if Beleria is under a sleep effect, cutscene with defeated wizard won't start.
Typos:
1. Book 1: "family wrer suffering" wrer -> were
2. Book 2: dawarves -> dwarves
3. First action area, first cutscene: "Area is think with skirmishes" think -> thick
4. Crypt pits level: "unsure maybe Blasphemy will not turn the tide of the battle" This is an internal translation comment, shouldn't it be invisible?
Hi, Qkrch,
I've had more conversation troubles. This time I'm stuck in Puerda. I have killed Khlav and tried to talk to Knives and Patrick. This time, the conversation switches over to the petrified Belegia and then stops. All previous conversations switched back to the older Belegia, but these don't. I guess it's possible that Khlav's OnDeath script didn't trigger.
I can't progress to the epilog, unless I need to go somewhere else and do something, but the walkthrough doesn't say anything.
yeah, Ahlmar is very hard to defeat. My suggestions are to use Vinya as companion so he can keep firing arrows while Belegia is on melee... the druid store in the temple will also help you purchasing some potions or armors.
The pin map is a good suggestion but beeing a 4x4 interior is not a big deal to find it :D. (obviously lamenloth tolds you to look for the portal, but is a fact that if you keep running while a convo... this one dissapears _________________________ The Ancient NWN Spanish Community Link

Hi, Qkrch,
I've had more trouble. The Orc Mage was very hard to defeat, even on Easy setting. Then his final conversation broke part way through, when Lameloth had a line of dialog. It was only by chance that I noticed that the exit portal had formed. It would have helped if you added a map pin for the portal when it formed.
Try to surround that north-west building (wasn't north east? :))... there's a narrow road on the cliff, between the barricades and the soldiers you killed. You'll know you're in it because the dwarf will say some words and the sea is just on the other side of the cliff :)

Hi, Qkrch,
I'm stuck in Carch Dal Woods. I can't find Khlav anywhere and have been running around in circles for a real-time hour. All I do is go past bodies I've killed already. I have the dog with me. I know there is some sort of building in the north=west, but I cannot find a way to get there. The map is no help as everything is hidden by trees.
Thanks a lot for the comment and vote, really encouraging. I'll try to update the module soon to make it easier for players and hopefully continue the series _________________________ The Ancient NWN Spanish Community Link

The best nwn2 module I have seen so far. I don't really like nwn2 but this unique module is the only reason why I launch the game once and a while.

Well very good deserves alook indeed. Its just has so terrible amount of bugs. I got 2 saves corrupted so that i found my self in midle of mountain nowhere to go. Differenets save's but same places still. Well i got 3rd and tryed to get back but from the wizards floating castle i couldnt get forward anymore i tryed several times and he just keeps screaming and portal doesent open so this ends my efforts with this module. Sounds in this are really great makes good athmosphere and i hoped i could finish this. But but at this point hours of playing for nothing and possibly mayby getting forward isnt enought motivation to continue anymore.
I know the main role of the character is something that will dissapoint many people, but the story was forged before the module and actually the character you play is more than a simple reference in Cielos Oscuros. What was written, cannot be changed :)
Anyway, I'll develop Autumn with a stronger replayable attitude, the Soz party creation will help a lot without having to disturb the story... and the good story.. hasn't begun yet.
Glad you enjoyed it.

Hello, thanks very much for making this mod, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't normally like playing pre-generated characters (and I prefer playing girls as a rule), but the excellent story more than made up for any doubts I had (reminded me of The Witcher in that respect).
I loved the back and forth through time, I thought that really added atmosphere, as well as a sense of a continuing relationship with my companions. I have to wonder who the new guy is, though! I'm very fond of the sword and its unique powers, the world is obviously very well-designed with its own lore (I liked the test at the beginning, and the readable books), area design is superb, and apart from the save game issue (I played an early version), I found the experience refreshingly bug-free.
The translation was technically very well done, although idiomatically some bits sounded a little strange.
The only reason I wouldn't vote this a 'must have' is because there are some players who really object to the idea of being forced to play a pre-generated character, or a man or whatever and this probably isn't for them (though I would still urge them to give it a try). For anyone else, this is HIGHLy recommended. Thanks for making it.

Sorry. I missed it after encountering the Brothers. Sorry to waste your time with me being tired, dumb...; Still your Module is excellent (9.75 so far) and I'm enjoying this FR trip to maybe Northern/Northeast Spain even if that wasn't your intention. Even my fiance says the Spanish influence is there, and very cool! :) _________________________ "You take a look around and you see that the law is there only to protect power. I've gotten to the end of the Hammersmith Crypt. Unfortunately, no door to touch; no way out; I'm trapped. What do I do? This Mod is terrific! Can you help me continue? Thanks :D _________________________ "You take a look around and you see that the law is there only to protect power. You'll see plenty of law but what you won't see is any justice."
Thanks for the feedback Eric, much important for me
I guess I won't do any update until 1.22 is released. Some 1.21 scripting core bugs are driving us crazy and breaking many stuff in modules. That doesn't mean the module doesn't work, it's just those annoyances eric tells and can become into stoppers.
Thanks for your patience to Obsidian :D

Apologies about not explaining myself correctly. When I have used an Arcane Archer, he would use up so many arrows due to rapid shot etc. It's the same with any character using bow, point blank shot, many shot and rapid shot.
Even so Vinya does not have point blank shot at higher level, did so at beginning levels and Rapid Shot, Manyshot would not work.
Also played another game recently where the enemy npc surrendered and my companions continued attacking him and so there was no cutscene etc.
I should mention though that I still enjoyed playing the game upto the point where I had the problem and will definitely play it when these problems have been cleared.
I was worried about using the resting areas as text would appear stating that you had wasted X hours so I thought there may be a time issue.
Yes, the module isn't tagged much in replayability. We tested it succesfully with fighter, ranger, barbarian and paladin (rogue too but it is a mayhem). The main problem is to play it with a different race, actually SetAppearance() script function makes important glitches to the PC. I'm trying to find a way to do the "future flashes" more correct and that can make the game less annoyful.
An arcane archer? he's just a ranger (for the moment).
Yeah, the main difference in normal and hardcore is that "critical hits" from enemies are counted, anyway, to come back and restore all your HPs in a rest zone is not forbidden :)

Yes I believe you are probably correct about using a different character and the effects but it does mean that replaying it again is not possible. It would be very good if you could use different classes or even a different fighter build.
The positives in particular "Genuinely Groundbreaking" was the test and the dwarven door.
Did not mention another problem as well the higher level Vinya, does not have point blank shot anymore and I can not use rapid shot or manyshot. Although when playing with an AA your arrows tend to disappear very quickly.
Also I only play in hardcore mode, will not play in normal mode. That is another reason why potions, healing kits disappear very quickly. Although I have an idea how to play it again
I will wait for these problems to be corrected and then try again with the real Belegia
2-3: yeah, is a custom world so you will not find Helm and it's adviced to play the included character. You could also take Vinya's short sword-
4: as the notes say: play strategically trying to keep your healing resources. It's hak n' slash but not so easy.
5: that is unexpected (means that rapid shot keeps firing with friendly objectives?). I'll try to fix it then.
6: the SAVE bug is known and i'll fix but if you're having HP problems why don't you rest on the 3 places over that area?
hope can quit a little that frustration :) _________________________ The Ancient NWN Spanish Community Link

2 Decided to use a different Belegia so roled up a cleric and gave him Helm? as deity (War Domain, ie weapon focus B. Sword). So find out only deity is Marie try again
3 Cleric again no war domain but opening bit of combat no weapon for a cleric except Heavy Xbow. Had to use fist as well, playing hardcore so attacks of opportyunity.
4Quite a few prlems start happening now. Prior to facing Half Orcs the group has 1 hp each myself 3 hp. Had used up all healing kis, potions and converted spells. Having to fight 2 groups of Molochs, had to save and reload just for companions to be resurrected and fight again.
5 Finally meeting Half Orc brothers, Vinya using rapid shot and on both ocassions he would continue firing when they had surrendered, had to reload a previous saved game and back through again with 1 hp etc. Finally achieved that bit
6 High level Belegia big combat in front of gates to Perudia where we all are killed? reload game prior to this and we are now on top of a mountain with no way off. Once more though no potions had to give my banded mail to dwarf and wait for him te regenarate to max hit points. That can take a while
End of Game and very frustrated

A very well made module and translated mostly very good.
I did have the asme bug that when loading a saved game it puts you in a spot on a ledge where you can't leave it. I just went into the toolset and fixed the path and re-baked it. Then I loaded my game and it worked fine.
I loved the mages floating castle, very nicely done. And the teleporting mage was very cool as well. I also liked the music too. Some very nice map designs as well. Can not wait for part 2!
Peace,
