Rethild's Wizard -- By: seeker_of_rain
THIS REQUIRES 1.22 AND MOTB
=====================
In the depths of the Shining South - Rethild swamps located. The secrets of the wizard legend are hidden in this unexplored area, yearning to be unearthed. What ancient dangers of the past are yet to be find. Who is that wizard, and what the locals looking for in that vast swamp are mystery...
- Starting level of 1
- Ending level of 6
- 4 hours of play
- 4 potential companions, all
optional at most of the time(2 max at one time)
=======================================
Important Notes:
1) English isn't my first language. Therefore I'm sure that there are many spelling and grammar mistakes, despite my best efforts to correct them.
2) I did all the beta testing myself. As such, I am sure that there will be plenty of hidden bugs... I apologize if you run into any showstoppers, or even any minor problems. If anything seems strange or not working, please post a comment here and I will try to help you as soon as possible.
This module never tested with NWN2:SoZ - I hope that everything will work with it ...
3) There are four companions in an attempt to make any character class a feasible option.
The max party size is three including yourself.
=======================================
Installation:
1) Make sure you remove the files from their respective folders! For instance, DO NOT place the downloaded 'modules' folder into the modules folder on your hard drive. You must instead open the downloaded module folder and place WFM.mod into the hard drive (MyDocuments) modules folder.
2) place WFM.mod into your MyDocuments/Neverwinter Nights 2/Modules folder.
3) Place the WFM campaign folder into your MyDocuments/Neverwinter Nights 2/Campaigns directory (this is the exception the whole folder goes into the directory).
4) Place all the movies (.bik) files into your Movies directory (once again, under MyDocuments).
5) Place the all the files that under Override into your Override directory.
6) Place the all the files that under hak into your hak directory.
Playing:
To run the module, load Neverwinter Nights 2 MoTB and select New Game. Then, pick New Campaign and select Rethild's Wizard.
Have fun! =.)

I would really appreciate some help. I can't find the "ruined" well, nor do I see a boat on the island across from town. How do I get to the pirates? Please, where is that well?
Thanks!

Most of this is very good, But I didn't finish. It got very hard, very quickly on the druid island. 2 of the companions are much too weak to survive. The merchants offer so little gold in buying what you retrieve.
*SPOILER*
The sudden swarming inside the burial cave proved too much--a dozen enemies suddenly appear. Everyone in the party was killed while I managed to escape with my life. Unfortunately I don't respawn companions and certain death seemed to await me at that point so I had to quit. Too bad, I regretted it--but every time I re-entered I was surrounded with paralyzing ghasts. Too attached to my character to let him commit suicide. I'd ease up on that spawning a little.

An enjoyable module that I believe too many people will overlook. Yes, players who are picky about language and grammar (in English, that is) will not be happy. Those who look at the number of available modules and give it a chance will be pleasantly surprised.
The settings are interesting and generally well done. The henchman could be more fleshed out (even though a couple of them had some great lines) and it's rather difficult to gain influence with them. The merchants take a bit of getting used to, but once you get used to the fact that each one is a no-good rotten thief out to gouge you ... it kind'a works.
The ending will annoy the heck out of nearly all players, but in a "good way" ... as long as a sequel comes out relatively soon.
***Spoiler - Potential Crash***
If the player has a problem with crashing constantly once passing the lava bridge, check your hak pak. The original beholder hak used in the module might have been overriden if you have since downloaded the more recent hak on the vault. The two are not interchangeable.
***End Spoiler***
A good adventure. The ending does make me leary of scoring it, however. If a sequel comes out within a year, I'll bump it up a bit. Otherwise, I wonder if a score can be reduced? :)
I didn't check the module with SoZ, So I don't know. (Same about MoW) - Release the elf before examining the poster will not mess the quest. _________________________ Rethild's Wizard campaign

Whoops ... forgot: I have SoZ as well. Could be that or MoW, I guess.

Looks like I'm going to have to skip that quest. Glad to know it's not vital to the module conclusion. I reloaded my old save and even cleared out my override folder (save yours). The first time was with 1.22, this time it was with 1.23. The only other thing I can think of is that I also have MoW.
Also, come to think of it, could it have anything to do with investigating the house and releasing the elf even before examining the poster and the shopkeeper suggesting I go there?
The dwarf is vital to the trigger, but not to the module. "Gray" Side quest is now related only to the dwarf. _________________________ Rethild's Wizard campaign

Okay ... I still have a pre-Gray save. I'll try just a temp switch before handing in the head but can still revert back to the older one. Is the dwarf vital to the convo or trigger? If so, that would mean I'd have to dump the thief.
I know about this problem. I made a mistake and the trigger fires (somtimes it doesn't) only when Dordin is part of your group. I need to fix it, but I have problem with NWN2 CD. I hope to fix it soon. sorry about that. and thanks for your comments :) _________________________ Rethild's Wizard campaign

Hmm ... just read the walkthrough up to that point. Perhaps the problem is leaving by cutting through pirates rather than the way mentioned. I'll try that later and get back.

I think I may have found another "iffy" trigger. I've killed Pirate Gray a few times (once in a long running battle which ended up far from his room, and the rest in "his" room), but I'm thinking a new convo with the dwarf should fire. And -- if he is the pirate on the wanted poster -- the quest doesn't update and no recognition of his head is made by members of the Cromwell clan.
I don't know if the poster is about some not-yet-encountered pirate. I'm using MotB, SoZ, and MoW updated to 1.22.

In the process of playing it and having some fun. Thank you for putting it up. So far, it's entertaining and has some cute touches.
The "Pirate's Treasure" trigger seems to be a bit iffy ... I had to reload twice before it fired. I think I may have accidentally moved the PC while the NPC was walking toward me.
You had some interesting ideas for locations and the use of placeables. I liked the bar ... you might consider playing up the rustic and making the building an actual barn. As for the ship, I would suggest making all the objects broken and scattered around from having fallen to the "ceiling."
Just some thoughts, but I'd like to thank you for the module and I will return with a score as soon as I finish.
I'm still working on few fixes. Somehow I don't face the same probelm as reported here... About the "burried chests" you can't reach them. I forgot to change them to environmental objects :)
About the riddles - I'll add explanation for each answer in the walkthrough. _________________________ Rethild's Wizard campaign

As reported by others, Hezob did not know any level 1 spells when I hired him. No companion was ever a different level than me though.
Although she was in the party, Ping kept asking to be rescued whenever I talked to her.
If you open the door to the lich's room, you can trigger the "Deadly Games" quest, whether or not you have met the weird guy.
On the other hand, if the lich or one of the other monsters opens the door before you do, you will apparently not be able to complete the "Deadly Games" quest at all. This may also be true if it is one of your companions who spontanious opens the door.
Mendar did not seem to be interested in Gray's Head, nor did anybody else I asked. The "Swamp Pirates" entry in my journal never updated either. It kept telling me to go to Bog Cliff.
I could see two "Burried chests" inside a ruin in Murata, but there didn't seem to be any way to reach them.
I could not kill the beholder. Clobbering him a lot made the game evetually crash, perhaps at the point where he finally died.
You have to stand very close to the door to the Wizard's Tower, in order to open or use it.
I must admit I did not understand any of the riddles and clues. Might be lack of imagination or something on my part, but I found it hard to even tell which parchment clues was related to what. Had to turn to the walkthrough in order to complete.
The ending was a real downer, and very abrupt. The walkthrough says "Start to plan your revenge", but there was no chance for revenge on anybody, just literally game over. Needs some kind of final fight in my opinion.
Using Patch 1.22 and RW 1.04.
BTW. Never got enough influence with Keith to make her say anything. Wonder if it would it have made any difference.
1. True about keith, I probably have to add somthing to clarify where she is going.
2. About ping level, I've tried it few times and each time her level was the average experience level of the group. really wierd, I'll test it some more. And about dismissing Ping, there is intend delay from the moment you dismiss her until she disappear. How much time have you waited there?
3. About Hezob it's really wierd, I fixed that problem in RW_103 I guess that it slipped in again or somthing.
Thanks for your comments, I'll try to improve it and upload a better version soon. _________________________ Rethild's Wizard campaign
Hi Dave,
Which version of the module you downloaded? The problem you described has been fixed in RW_103. Maybe I made a mistake in RW_104, I'll check it out. Thanks for your comment. _________________________ Rethild's Wizard campaign
Hi, seeker,
Just started the mod and I have run into several problems in Black Peat. Ping entered as a Level 1 character, not the same as my party, who were L3. Hezob entered as L4 (one higher than my party?), but knew no spells above L0. So he has 4 L1 slots and 2 L2 slots that are unuseable.
Also, Ping does not go anywhere when dismissed. Keith doesn't say where she will be when you dismiss her. Dordin says he is going back to the shipwreck. I did not check that, though.
I don't think that it will work as it should in multi. there are many triggers that are referred to the NPCs. and play with them will make the moudle too easy.
But it is possible to change it, and I believe it will be minor change. _________________________ Rethild's Wizard campaign

has some bugs but they are getting addresseet and it's nice to see this module could it be played on Multilayer?
Vidal - Please try again. I didn't encounter any problem with it.
If it is continuing let me know, and I'll try to put it in another place. (I asked the administrator in the vault to replace the old file, I hope that it will be done soon) _________________________ Rethild's Wizard campaign
Okay, so which one do I download? Version 1.0 says: Updated 3.26.09 on mouse-over, but the later version, 1.03 says: Updated 3.25.09
Looks intriguing, and I really would like to give it a shot. I kept up with this on the forum, and you really poured a lot of blood, sweat, and tears of yours into it.

Pros - Amazing areas. One of the most beautiful exteriors i've seen. Nice story, good NPCs.
Buckwheezer - Thanks for your vote.
I uploaded yeasterday a new version, which should be much better then this one. (All the bugs that mentioned here are fixed)
I hope that the new version will be available today. And i'm sure you'll have better experience with this version. :) _________________________ Rethild's Wizard campaign

I will probably rate this higher once the author has smoothed it out. A walkthrough is fine when puzzels are involved or an occasional help is needed but having to refer to it for each step is bad. I tried without it and got into a real mess. I went to the Druid cave too soon and got clobbered. I never could get the ferry to take me to the pirate so I got there using the Debug Dwarf. I could not get rid of the pirate head back at the store. There were too many keys so I got stopped at the door after the Beholder. Rather than go all the way back to the Debug Dwarf for all of the keys, I called it quits.
The positives - great landscapes, great plot, excellent NPCs. I see great potential here but it was a little too much for me.

My pleasure
By the way I'd like to help with grammar, sentence structure etc. I have no idea how this can be done but if it is possible and reasonably easy to receive information I'll forward my email address.
Also when the small problems have been solved I'll play through it again with a ? and probably increasethe vote.
