Description
SEARCH FOR THE TEMPLE OF THE GOLDEN SPIRE.
As the cool autumn evening draws in, you arrive at the quiet forest village of Greywood. Starting out on your adventuring career, you're willing to take on almost any job to build your reputation (and pay for food and drink). Little do you suspect what's waiting for you ahead......
This is a conversion of an old (1983) AD&D adventure from White Dwarf Scenarios 2.
I've tried to keep the P&P feel as much as possible, and be aware that this was originally a competition module - some encounters are meant to be too dangerous to survive, so learn to scout & weigh up your chances before charging in sword first. In case you're not playing a class that can scout easily, there are companions of most common classes around the village, along with heavy hitters to help you out.
WHOS IT FOR?
Its aimed at a party of 1st level characters - either single player with the companions available locally, or a group of real live human players - whichever you prefer.
With a high level character you could run through the entire adventure in 30 minutes, but a starting level party will probably take a couple of evenings at least.
DEATH:
This isn't good for your health! I really didn't like the original campaign style of just waiting a little & getting up like nothing had happened, so death in this adventure is a bit more final - so save often and judge your encounters wisely!
HELP:
Speaking of help - most areas have some sort of help, if you can find them, in case you get into a sticky situation.
This is my first adventure, despite having played NWN since it first came out - and I've found the toolset a really steep learning curve - but the comments people have kindly left seem to indicate it came out OK :-)
CUSTOM CONTENT:
Finally, there are a couple of HAKs that are needed for this module - see files below for details:
They add a little extra content that I needed for this adventure.
Massive thanks to all the custom content creators out there - you're absolutely fantastic!
VERSION INFO:
V2- Original module uploaded
V3- Script after final encounter is now sorted (I hope) & doors made tougher so you really do need to find the 'keys'.
V4- Final version now - all bugs squashed (I hope). Ending script changed to be more reliable (But shout up if anything untoward happens), and the Priest's equipment in the temple is a little more 'secure' now - for those of a "chaotic-ahem" alignment who can't help looting other people's belongings.
V5- Now Uploaded- Changed the ending script to something that's guaranteed to work - although please shout up if there are any problems.
Companion's equipment checked to make sure they don't drop it when they die - careless fellows!
Father Zarkon's conversation has been changed so the exploit mentioned in comments won't work any more.
Checked with the gnomes fishing by the river & they're happy to help if you get into trouble.
Have fun!
Clyordes.
& Please vote / leave feedback - it really does make a difference :~)
I would appreciate some help please. I'm having trouble getting your mod up and running and I think it has to do with the tower haks. Your read me says to "import" the ERF, but how do I do it and to where? I'm on a Mac so I don't have the tools. Can I just place it somewhere and, if so, where do I put it? Thanks, Karen :)

Right, just had a look it seems that the only reason it wasn't working for me was that the RWS towers hak wasn't unzipped - now its all sorted all haks are in my mydocs/nwn2/haks folder its running fine in my steam laptop - if you see what I mean :-) So main thing is make sure all the files are unzipped (just in case its not obvious, they'll have a .hak filename, rather than .rar) in the right folder there shouldn't be any problem. If you're still having any problems after checking this, let me know see if we're missing something obvious. Hmm, should be Ok with those. Just checked by downloading the files onto our laptop which has NWN2 recently downloaded via Steam. One thing I noticed was that the cobweb hak is zipped up - don't thin the others are - so make sure all the haks are unzipped into your mydocs/nwn2/haks folder. Also - I got the same message, and I'm assuming that its a Steam thing - I think the hak folder is in a different place but I've not really touched the steam set up yet don't know how it works - so that could be your/my problem too. I'll try take a look at Steam later see where the haks need to go. Cly. _________________________ "Cor- a Beholder, Just think of the XP!"; Dave the Barbarian in the Demonweb pits, long ago. I would appreciate some help. When I try to load the game I get a message that I'm missing a hak. I have the following installed: giant_ant.hak adl_rws_towers.hak cobwebs.hak rws_towers_2das.hak rws_towers_main.hak I also put Giant_Ant.erf and RWS Towers.erf in the haks since I didn't know what else to do with them. Could you please tell me what I'm missing? Thanks - looking forward to being able to play the mod. Karen :)

Yay! - Version 5 just uploaded - a few minor changes as described above. Please let me know how you get on - if anything needs changing, I'm fine to have a go at it. Before the latest update, I've been trying to implement the same death system as I have working in my next project - the player teleports to a temple on respawn, but for some really odd reason I can't get me head around, its not working in this adventure. So for now, death is pretty much final - just like it ought to be, some may say. So save often, and chosse your fights wisely. Thanks for the comments Brutus - its always great to know how people got on. Glad you liked the landscapes - I can't claim any great geographical knowledge, but I'm pretty happy with how its all come out. The Gnomes were really just a random encounter I put in because I saw the fishing set in the toolset wondered how I could use it. In case you're not form the UK, plaster gnomes are a fairly common sight in some english gardens, fishing in people's ponds - I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to have some here :-) They may also help if you're struggling with any of the wandering monsters or the giant, if I remembered to set their faction properly. The Elves have a similar role - pretty much haughty NPC's in teh manner of those in LOTR, but will help the party if the wolves or the troll (or the goblins deep in the forest) can be lured back to where they're hanging out. Ah - the death scripts - Oh, I had so many problems trying to get it to do what I wanted! The henchlings lose their gear (I've just discovered) because its set as droppable in the toolset. I thought that meant that it could be recovered if they got the chop, but it turns out that it means that anything not in their hands when they die tends to disappear. Kind of pesky, but I've not changed it as its sort of a penalty for dying - that's my excuse anyway :-) Really annoyed that the ending didn't work for you - I really thought I'd got it sussed this time am really sorry it didn't work for you. Glad you managed to get it to fire for you eventually though. Dialogs - I've learned how to do a few more things in the second project, so they're a bit better. I'd have liked to have included skill checks in some of the conversations, and if time permits, I might look at it, but I don't know if it will really improve things. Infinite rewards from Father Z? Cor - I've not noticed that one before, and its easy to fix (I think), but I'm just about to release Reptile God, so I might not get around to it just yet. Thanks again for the great score - 2 more votes I'm into double figures! _________________________ "Cor- a Beholder, Just think of the XP!"; Dave the Barbarian in the Demonweb pits, long ago. i had fun wandering around in this outstanding beautiful landscape and looking for the temple. is there something to do with the elves and the fishing gnomes? - my greatest problem was that, when an henchman died and got up after the fight, quite often some of his equipment (weapon or shield) was missing, so here i lost some good weapons - this is really annoying. - i got no ending(played Version 4), but after reading in the comments,i tried again and fought close to the obelisk so then it triggered. - static dialogs, sometimes it would be better when the player could only ask one time the same questions: got infinte rewards from father zarkon when asking him about the mace again. thx for your work, now i'm looking forward to your next one Brutus

Aw, my first spam! I'm honored, although I prefer the Uggs advert. For anyone keeping track out there, Against the Cult of the Reptile God - sort of a follow up, but really aimed at beginning characters too - is almost done. I'm just sorting out the few niggly bugs that refuse to be squashed, then it'll be let loose on the vault - hopefully before christmas if I can resolve everything get it submitted in the next day or so. It may be too much to ask, but deadlines are good - I especially like the whizzing sound they make as they rush by (thank-you Douglas Adams for that (mis)quote). _________________________ "Cor- a Beholder, Just think of the XP!"; Dave the Barbarian in the Demonweb pits, long ago. He he he, thanks for the encouragement :-). The vanishing npcs have been tracked down and a poison dripping sword that strangely changed to cute little bubbles has been remade - I'm just about in a position to finish populating the first level of the naga's dungeon - what could possibly go wrong? _________________________ "Cor- a Beholder, Just think of the XP!"; Dave the Barbarian in the Demonweb pits, long ago. Good on ya Clyordes. Glad to hear you're going to see it through to completion--I know it must be a hell of a lot of work that's much appreciated. After that, take a break and do a mini-module or too (whip cracks).
