Nihil Trilogy: Awakening
Part 1 of 3 Final Version Update [007]
--------------------------------------
Nihil Trilogy:
(1)Awakening-(Released Fall 2010) Link (2)Chains of Misfortune-(Released Winter 2012) Link (3)Light at Journey's End-(Coming Fall 2013)
--------------------------------------
Meaning:
This mod is based on the concept of 'Nihilism', which is a philosophical doctrine suggesting the annihilation of the self, or the individual consciousness.
Is it a dream you are awakening to or a living nightmare? When you open your eyes, all you see is shadow, unable to differentiate yourself from the multitude of voices you wander. You may have once been a great hero, a powerful arcanist, or merely a lowly thief, but no matter what you were before, you are a Asper. So shall you remain until you discover the reason behind your cursed state, and more importantly, how you may escape it.
--------------------------------------
Setting:
You can play your own role, that of another, or mix them up, all is open to an Asper. Though it takes place in it's own world, it can be incorporated into most other medieval fantasy settings, which allows about anybody's character to fit in.
Note that the first area of this module checks if your level 5 and above, if your not it will give you the necessary amount of experience to get to that level, but note that Races with ECLs of +1 or greater will start at lower levels.
Step 1
Use Winrar(Choose one of the first two; depending on if you have 32 bit or 64 bit, on the top of the list) or 7zip or other extractor to extract the Nihil Trilogy Folder. If anyone has any problems tell me and I'll post a .zip version; though there should be a option to extract the files from a .rar with 7zip should Winrar not be viable.
Step 2
Open the Extracted Folder
Step 3
Cut and Paste the 'nihilhaks.hak' and place it into the folder under
My Documents/Neverwinter Nights 2/hak
Step 4
Cut and Paste the 'Nihil_Alpha' module and place it into the folder under
My Documents/Neverwinter Nights 2/modules
Step 5
Start up the Neverwinter Nights 2 game and choose the option called New Game Modules, and select the 'Nihil_Alpha' module
Step 6
Pick any character you wish, start up the game.
Step 7
Enjoy the game!

Final Updates: 03/24/2012
-Converted module into campaign
-Added a Teleportation Network to the Mindscape
-Added in some sound effects for a few key conversation nodes
-Made beach sittable for two on the cliffs above the port-city
-Some minor updates to handle a few spelling/grammar errors in mod.
-Added in subtraction system for giving out experience points at beginning of mod so characters that are above level 1 won't be given unnecessary experience points, but any character higher than 12000xp will be admitted without constraints as before.
-Thanks to Shallina on the Bioware Social Network for posting the solution to a problem that has persisted since Beta, and was since ignored as the mod was released. This bug concerned the fact that lights lose their tags after the game is reloaded, and the only solution is to use the SetLocalObject and GetLocalObject to repair it. For this I give true commendations as it finally allowed a perfect implementation of the end battle scenes for those who want to take a more leisurely pace through the game instead of relying purely on the all at once approach. Though not critical to completing the mod before, it nonetheless was a thorn in my side when it came to scripting the final battle scene, and I'm glad to say it is finally repaired to my satisfaction.
-Second, I learned enough about C++ to make a auto-installer for my mod; also something that has persisted since beta, and that was just released as well with the update, and is available on the link below.
-Third, a new mini-game was added to the Weary Rest Inn.
-Other minor visual changes, mostly to interior areas.
---------------------------------------
Updates as of 12/4/2010
-Added a walkthrough of one possible path of the game on Youtube. See the link above.
-Added a website for the game trilogy. Check the link above.
---------------------------------------
Updates as of 10/17/2010
*More spelling and grammatical fixes
--------------------------------------
Updates as of 10/14/10:
*Based on yldenfrei and JSelenes' suggestions, I added a couple extra ending 'events' based on gender and choice(this includes the Asper forms if you choose to use them)
*Based on yldenfrei's suggestion I added brackets for actions
*More spelling and grammar fixes
---------------------------------------
Updates as of 10/10/10:
*Addition of a scene in the lighthouse to guide people towards the stairs which leads down to the hidden beach. As well as a addendum to the journal entry to that effect.
*Addition of the Longbow as a Void Weapon
*Notification on the Rat-catching quest at the Bakery to click on rats to up the counter
*Deleted the windmill ambient sound loop on the east exit of the Bandersville area
*Revision of in-game text based on spelling and grammar; a never-ending process; though Ive spent months in Beta and at least a couple close usability testers to achieve, but a necessary one

My sincere gratitude for the notification, karen. It seems some files were misplaced on Dropbox. I just put all of those back in place, so everything should now be working accordingly. Sorry for inconvenience and thanks again.
In case there are any further concerns, there also exists copies of these games on the 'Neverwinter Nexus.' Enjoy. _________________________ My Website: Link
seraphimsage, I'd appreciate some help. I had hoped to play the whole trilogy, but I can't download the update for part 2 and the regular dl is an exe which I can't use since I'm on a Mac. Is there a dl I can use so I can put the files into my game myself?
Thanks!

For those unaware, the second part of the trilogy was released a couple months back and was titled, 'Chains of Misfortune.' Give it a try and prepare for the release of the final part of the trilogy around Summer 2013. Until then. _________________________ My Website: Link

[Download Links Fixed]:
My sincere gratitude to Asderuki, from the Neverwinter Nexus. He just informed me of the NWN-Vault database entry corruptions with the download section. To alleviate concerns, I've hooked the links to my Dropbox version. This should alleviate concerns for the near future. If problems persist, let me know. Thanks.
[Expansion Released]:
Also, for those as of yet unaware, the next part of the trilogy, 'Nihil Trilogy II: Chains of Misfortune,' has been released on the vault. Check it out! I'm sure it will be well worth your time. _________________________ My Website: Link

I have to thank you for this wonderful module. A great and original story, an excellent soundtrack choice, great environmental/comportamental/sentimental descriptions and the most beautifully created areas i probably ever played in NWN2. This is clearly a must have.
Of course, there are some cons:
* Although the dialogs with the companions and some NPC's are good enough, they could be deeper and more detailed.
* Sometimes i feel it needs little effort for the player to convince other NPC's to do what he wants, i mean, some NPC's and companions are easily convinced and start by loving the player almost from day 1.
* I'm probably being picky now, but there are some inconsistencies with the dark ambient of the game. For example, why so many exclamation marks in the end of the phrases (like when you pick the mushrooms).
As for bugs, i found one. The quest log related with the bard was incomplete. I don't remember exactly the text, but was something like "I knew a bard that..." and it ended with the "...".
A second issue was not related with the module, but with a doortypes.2da in my override folder that was keeping me for entering the second village. After i moved it out of that folder, the issue disappeared.
Thanks again and keep the great work seraphimsage!

Played through this mod once already to see if its something I'd enjoy and it was. :)
This time around I plan on taking my time and exploring more as I obviously missied some quests.
The only nit-pick I really had was when my char was being called and HE when she was clearly a SHE :) But its something I could live with.

*The Beta-phase for the second part of the Nihil Trilogy called 'Nihil Trilogy II: Chains of Misfortune' has begun.
The mod is a little cleaner than it was at the start of alpha, but I believe at least a few more updates are needed before it is ready for its final release. If time and convenience allows, I would appreciate it if anyone can do a play-through of the mod's beta-version so I can polish it a little more before its eventual release. Thanks.
I'm glad you enjoyed it furball, and thanks for your generous vote. When this sequel is squared away I'll begin plans for the third and final portion of the trilogy. Until then. _________________________ My Website: Link

The Alpha-phase for the second part of the Nihil Trilogy called 'Nihil Trilogy II: Chains of Misfortune' has finally begun. The mod is little rough so if anyone has some time to spare to look over it I would deeply appreciate it. The sooner the errors are identified, the sooner I can release the full version of the module and began on the final part of the series.
You can find the Alpha Version of the second part of the trilogy called 'Nihil Trilogy II: Chains of Misfortune(Alpha Version)' under the new modules section of this site. Thanks. _________________________ My Website: Link

Sorry for the delay.
I'm glad you enjoyed the mod Wretchedrick. The next part of the Trilogy is near its Alpha phase. I just need have some testers, on my end, to do a few run-throughs of the mod before I'm certain its ready for Alpha. This may take a couple to a few weeks based on their schedules.
As for the grammar issues, I can't do much about those, unless the exact errors are pointed out to me, but I'll take what you said in mind for this upcoming release. Still, testing the mod before and often after its release to catch those errors may take awhile, especially since I've gone through it so many times that often I think I'll blind to them. As for a proofreader, I don't have anyone to proofread, beyond myself, before it is released. Still, I'll do what I can on my end, and if you know anyone who would be willing to look over it let me know or if you like to help me catch some of those in the upcoming alpha before its full version is released I would appreciate it. Thanks. _________________________ My Website: Link

I REALLY enjoyed this one. Everything about it. If it's not the most original storyline I've seen, then I just haven't been exposed to wherever you got your ideas from. The areas are fantastic! I especially appreciated where we buried the girls' father. I liked being able to use various skills (including conversation skills) that are usually all but ignored. I especially liked the slap-in-the-face quirky ending with Cirri. Didn't see that one coming!
The only thing I found annoying was the incredible amount of typos, wrong words, and generally bad grammar. I hope you enlist a little aid from someone to proofread your narrations and dialogue for the next one. I was shocked to see that this is a later version where most of that was supposedly corrected.
Maybe English is not your first language. That's okay, I don't speak binary or computer code so I guess we're even.
I really did enjoy this mod immensely and am looking forward to the next.
Hello awesome looking module. What's that, you demand I download and play you immediately? If you insist.
Seriously, the areas look great, definitely checking this out :D.

I'm glad you enjoyed it dalker.
(Spoilers)
Seer's Quest:
As for the seer's quest, there are indeed 'seven' mushrooms. I believe you missed the one on the hill before you cross the stream.
Seer's Door Path-finding Issue:
As for the door to the seer's tent, it requires that you approach it from the front. If you approach it from the side or back the character's path-finding won't always walk you straight up to it which is needed to activate the object-conversation needed to enter. On that note, thanks for bringing up this issue, as it now allows me the notice I need to fix it for the second part.
Release Date:
Finally as to the second module's release date, it has been delayed. Admittedly the summer release date given a year back was wishful thinking, but I'm happy to announce that the next module has been linked from start to finish, all major events, conversations, and areas are accounted for. Now, provided all goes according to plan, I will have the alpha/beta-testing for the module around mid-November. Then depending on how that goes the release date may be around late-December to mid-January. Until then. _________________________ My Website: Link

I liked the storytelling a lot. There's one glitch (below) but the main reason I'm not voting higher is that the sequel promised for Summer 2011 doesn not exist... yet. :-(
--spoilish--
I only found 6/7 mushrooms in the forest, despite exploring it thoroughly several times. Also, if trying to talk back to the seer, his door is now closed. So basically I was unable to finish that quest and had no way to get a hint.

The author of Ravenloft Revelations strikes again! (A pity you took RR off, BTW)
Original and compelling story, stunning areas and inventive use of placeables. I really enjoyed playing that "multiple" character, so to speak. Story may be linear but that didn't spoil my enjoyement in the least. As for combat, it's true that it's easy, but the game is tagged as light combat so I don't see why that should be an issue. It lets you concentrate on the atmosphere and the story. Also I liked the ending, it was totally unexpected and so dramatic! It will be interesting to explore how my character will live with what happened.
All in all a great module, bravo and thank you =)

Well, I passed on that quest and finished the module. I pretty much agree with Eguintir's review, on both pros and cons.
Combat was easy, but there's little focus on it, so I don't mind a lot. There are some typos (many times you write "a" when it should be "an"), and all those exclamations seem a bit weird at times (also noticed this in Ravenloft Revelations). But overall I liked the module, so I'm expecting to see the sequels.

I can't complete the rat quest. I need to grab 12, but there's only 3. I tried to "talk" to them 12 times, but nothing happens. There's no notification nor counter either. I don't know if it's bugged or I'm missing something.

Hello Ailim, as to your question, Cira picked up her father's body and concealed it while you were talking with the druid. You may have also clicked passed it without realizing it especially as you were in haste to catch up after the crash. As for animation, Cira does have a run animation off the screen during that cut-scene, but there is no actual scene of her picking up the body. If for some reason you have trouble getting to the next village after those battles, for which there is one more cutscene once you leave the forest clearing that in turn references that action, then please notify me. As for why that is, as well as its later counterpart, will be discussed in the next module that will be released in late fall of this year, and for which Ill release some screenshots of at the end of this month. For now, lets just say, that has something to do with the protagonist itself.
Also thanks Eguintir Eligard, M. Rieder and I suppose the several spammers who have saturated the post over the past few months, for your interest and comments, hope you enjoyed it so far. _________________________ My Website: Link
Hi, loving the game so far, but I've run into a problem. I was in the druid's grove, finished the battle and Cira retrieved her fathers body. On my way to the next town to bury him when the game crashed (my computers fault, not your game). When I reloaded, I had to fight the druid again, all went fine, but then the cutscene with Cira getting her fathers body wouldn't trigger. Am I in the wrong place for that? I thought it was in the grove. Any suggestions?
Easy combat, eh? I guess this would be a good place to try out my one legged deep gnome bard with terets character. _________________________ The Wizard's Apprentice - A single player adventure for spellcasters guaranteed to rumple your robes and warp your wand!

I liked this. Some pros and cons
Pros:
-area design, unique use of placeables etc, generally "new" feel to the old toolset
-Storyline
Cons:
-writing is good but extremely linear (1 reply option), was also a little lost on who is saying what and the storyline was a bit lost on me midway. The romance relationship was also very abrupt and out of nowhere (you dont talk to each other ever but suddenly she wants to be with you?)
-Combat was too easy, never even took any damage in anything but 1 boss fight.

Thanks everyone for your interest. The next part of the trilogy is still in the works, though some aspects are taking longer then anticipated. In any case, should all go accordingly and interest persists the beta will be released next fall. Depending on the beta, the full game will be released in late fall to early winter. Till then. _________________________ My Website: Link

Glad you enjoyed it Jarandel, and thanks for voting. In the next part, I'm looking into some different ways of contrasting the logo font from the background of the loadscreens so it doesn't fade into the background as it did so in a couple of the pieces.
Also Elidiser will make a reappearance in the next module aside from being a asper-form. Just note he won't be back in same condition as he was previously so you will have to make some efforts to restore him if you want him back as a companion and possibly something more.
Lastly, the dreamspace will undergo some changes, including a reduction in its scale, in the next module as the ether becomes more recognizable and open to the the players' individual interpretations. Till then. _________________________ My Website: Link
