The Sahuagin Heel - The Crystalmist campaign - Chapter 3
Another classic aD&D P&P adventure first published in White Dwarf #65 back in 1985, written by Graeme Drysdale, now converted for NWN2.
Many years ago, a legendary hero named Escatha and his band of warriors defeated a tribe of fierce Sahuagin that gave the archipelago its name. Now something is once again attacking ships sailing through the islands.
The Baron Hochoch - patron of your previous adventures in the area - calls upon your skills once more to investigate the cause - and put an end to it!
Like previous adventures in the series, this is designed for Single or Multi-players, so there are Henchlings available in the starting town if any are needed to add skills to the party. Depending on your level, experience & play style, you may need more or less of them to help you on your way.
Death - Because of the way this adventure is structured, unlike previous adventures, death is now final - please remember to save often -(remember quick-save is F12 by default).
Your companions don't suffer that fate if they're overcome in combat - depending on how much damage they took, they'll merely be out cold for a few rounds, then get up & wander round a bit, or they'll be gone for good (although Resurrection or Raise Dead should work fine).
Encounters - Think tactically. Some opponents may be too tough for your party - before you start any fights, make sure you can finish them, and maybe take a look at your environment to find the most advantageous positions to fight.
Its not an MMO - Unlike MMO games, you may benefit from learning to scout, and pausing the game at the start of each encounter so you can best organise your characters. Running in & hoping for the best isn't what will keep you alive.
And maybe save often.
XP - you DON'T get much experience for killing things. What you DO get it for is exploring and completing both the main quest and the side quests that you may come across as you explore.
By the end of this chapter of the Crystalmist Campaign, your character/s should be level 6.
Custom Content - Like the other adventures in this campaign, Sahuagin Heel uses the Crystalmist HAK, plus a smaller HAK file with content just used by this adventure, namely:
Tridents

Finally, I know NWN2 is getting a little long in the tooth now, although I'm not aware of any other game allowing you to build D&D adventures in such detail (I'm reserving judgement on Neverwinter until I've seen the Foundry, but so far it doesn't look like much of a competitor due to the limitations of the game mechanics).
Therefore, I'm still building for NWN2 & any feedback is gratefully received, so please let me know anything you liked, didn't like, or just anything at all. If its major, or just easily fixed, I'll sort it.
Keep rolling 20's!
Clyordes.
ps - Next stop: Oasis of the White Palm...........
Enjoyed this little jaunt as much as Ch 1 2. Only bug was when I walked in on a group of Orcs and I think there was supposed to be some interaction that misfired. Took me from level 5 to 6, and there were some very interesting unique weapons to be found. Looking forward to the dunes............

Ah - thanks Nightmare - I'll check that out. In the mean time, as we did in PP, I was going to go with whatever 'miniature' I had available - so I was thinking dinosaurs! Nice big desert lizards might look great if I can make them look a little less "predatory"! Truly Clyordes, this series has great replay value. I will be playing it again with a different character. A note about camels, I dont know if I am fantasying here or whether it really is a memory but seems to me that I remember something about camels in one Tsongo's adventures. He made "Serene" and "A Fairy Tale", both awesome mods. I know he did use the pack horse hak, so you might want to check that out and see if you might be able to use it. I'll keep my eyes open for your next release.

Many thanks for the votes - glad you enjoyed the adventures. Now I understand the toolset a little better (I'm not a fast learner - clearly :-)) I may put in more interaction with companions, and probably reduce their number somewhat for the next adventure. Only thing is, they're mostly based on old PP characters I had back in the day, so I'm a little attached to them its hard to leave them out! Nevertheless, Oasis of the White plam will be quite a contrast - for those that don't remember the original TSR PP version, there's a bit of a clue to the location in the name, and it has some great characters in it - so expect a bit more interaction with the locals. Onlt thing is, there are no camels in NWN, so I'm thinking of alternatives, and the sandsleds could be tricky too. Still, 3 areas are almost complete, but like Reptile God, there's an awful lot to do. Someone estimated a while back that if you take into account everything involved in building - designing, placing, scripting, testing, fixing, etc. - it takes around 1 hour of development time to create 1 minute of playing time. I've never worked it out, but that feels about right - so you're right - adding things like more conversations with companions is something that would be great, but adds to an already heavy workload. Good job we enjoy building! No release date for the next instalment yet - I was vaguely thinking summer '13, but I'd be amazed if it happened. Cly. ps. - the bow - look for a rust monster head south..... _________________________ "Cor- a Beholder, Just think of the XP!"; Dave the Barbarian in the Demonweb pits, long ago. Just finished this one tonight. This whole series is great and I am very much looking forward to your next Mod.I dont know what it is but there was 1 thing in each of the Crystal mods I couldnt find. I found the sword but couldnt find the bow, lol. I loved the whole story line and the way you connected all three parts. I played a Female Drow Paladin of Tyr and had a great time! Some one else said you should make more interaction with companions, I agree with that, but I also see why you didnt. You made a very large selection of companions to choose from and I would hate to see the amount of writing to make good convos for all of them lol. Just keep making modules the way you do and we will keep playing and enjoying them. Thank you very much for making these and sharing them, you ROCK!

Thanks, Cly. Enjoyed this Module. Glad you saw what I meant, and I did find another way to get where I wanted to be. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback Karen- its always well appreciated. The Priestess's reaction is based on the state of your journal entries for the two weapons - Its never failed me yet so I'll have to take a look see what's going on. One thing - make sure that the person who wants to talk to the priestess has the weapon/s in their inventory - I set it up so that different people in a multi-player party could each have the reward specific to each weapon rather than one reward being given to everyone in the party - if that doesn't make sense, it may when you see what happens - assuming it works. Let me know if this was the issue here if possible - thanks Karen. Cly. _________________________ "Cor- a Beholder, Just think of the XP!"; Dave the Barbarian in the Demonweb pits, long ago. Just finished last night after finding the elusive sword (great hiding place btw - I didn't see it the first time I was there!). I really enjoyed this installment of the campaign - thank you! I don't know if this is supposed to happen or if it's a glitch, but thought you'd like to know that when I went back to the Priestess with the 2 weapons, she didn't acknowledge that I had them or that she gave us a quest so no xp was awarded. Then again, I got to keep them so it's not all bad!

Thanks Clyordes! Although I enjoyed the first 2 chapters, I think this was the best! I'll come back to vote after I finish.

Hi Karen, Well done finding the bow. *** SPOILER *** The sword is in the Sahuagin lair itself - take a look near the altar room where the obelisk is - its a little hidden, but should show up with a little looking around.... *** END OF SPOILER *** Let me know if you have any problems, and don't forget to report back to the Priestess if you want her reward!
