Description
Traveling on a Caravan bound for Sundabar, a terrible storm has whipped up forcing Caravan Master Sergei Wettell to pull in for the night in the tiny hamlet of Tragidor. But a sinister secret is brewing in this little town where nothing is as it seems. A town full of life where it's people hack their lives out of the wilderness bearing their children along the way.

A town where everyone has a story... some spanning generations. This is the remake of the old Tragedy in Tragidor updated for NWN2.
It was made for Good or Neutral Characters, not much choice for evil. In this, you are the hero, not the villain. You can play an evil character but it's limited in what you can do.

General guidelines are...
5th level character for Hard
6th level character for Medium Challenge.
7th level character for Easier Challenge.

This is a harder module and in some places requires some tactics. If you decide to play this with Bloom on, remember to turn down your brightness a bit, I have noticed the Bloom really brightens everything a bit much. Might want to turn down the shadows in the forest, they get a bit intense there. This module includes No Rest areas... they are...
Ruined Keep Dungeon
Ruined Keep Catacombs
Goblin Caves
Obelisk/Drow Caverns
Abyss
Tragidor Town Outdoors

Safe Rest areas: Moonwood
Moonwood Plateau
Moonwood Deepforest
Ruined Keep Secret Passage
Tragidor Buildings
Edge of Nowhere
Strange Room
This has never been tested for multiplayer so I don't know how that will turn out. That said if anyone wishes to adapt it to multiplayer they are more than welcome to. Partial Walkthrough can be found here... http://tragidor.pbwiki.com/FrontPage?doneSave=1

Late to the game and late to vote though still time to express appreciation to the author for his contributions.

If you never played this mod in NWN1 or you are unfamiliar with it - download and persevere through

Having read and reread many of the authors comments in the early days of the game I understand better his viewpoint in what the NWN2 toolset brought to his vision. A more complete vision of what he imaged.

The ending of this mod remains one of the most poignment (spelling?) of all the mods ever produced by the community (in both games) and is a must have in any collection.

I realize the Tales of the As may never see the light of day; however it would be brilliant if the author or some kind community soul suggested / posted instructions on how to seuccessfully convert this entry to an SOZ party editor game as a party of 2 would actually per-fect the experience.

For its size and age, this module is absolutely incredible. Even though it has been out for four years, very few modules have come close to this. Phoenixus is to be commended for assembling Tragedy out of the OC Toolset.

There are far too many Pros to list individually. One that stands out in my mind was the scene where the Halfling joins the Main Character. Given the scope of Tragedy, there was enough character interaction to develop some attachment. As the Module points out in the end, the PC has only known anybody for a few weeks and the Mod covers mere days. The final scene makes it clear that relationships continue with the survivors for years afterwards. That finale should have been a lesson other modders took to heart. All loose ends are cleaned up, and everybody's story is told. Too many just peter out, or worse, leave the tale unfinished.

Special mention must be made of the terrain Phoenixus created. Many Mods, including much of the OC, feature very little terrain varaiation. What little exists is usually designed to channel the Player into set encounters and goals. Tragidor is different. My Ranger was able to use the terrain as cover while scouting out most objectives, and also to control the terms of engagement. I could choose to either try and tank my way through, or use the surroundings to skirt the enemy and set up a battle where a large force was funnelled into an ambush or kill-box. There were also a few times where enemies held decided tactical advantage due to occupying favorable ground. The lay of the land also made sense, it was internally consistent. I would almost hazard a guess that Phoenixus modelled it after real locations he knew instead of saying "hmm, this would look nice over here".

I can think of no Cons for this at all. About the closest I can come is that it was made before most of the Community Haks were developed. This really only shows in the Hamlet of Tragidor itself It could have been much more developed had Phoe had access to what we have today. Judging by the comments I read through while trying to find a hint about a problem I was facing(improper instal on my part) I found that Tragedy was the FIRST full blown module for NWN2 from the Community. I certainly can't deduct points for Phoenixus blazing the trail everybody else followed. In that regard, Tragedy is the very definition of Groundbreaking and I vote accordingly. If you are still following this Phoenixus, know that your creation still stands at the head of the class after all these years. Thank you for a great adventure.

Wow, this was really good. I enjoyed this a lot. Good story, good companions and wellw ritten dialogue. This was almost flawless. One of the most immersive modules I have played so far.

I decided to go through this with a level 5 lightning-themed wizard and found combat almost too easy. I guess area effect spell are the way to go. Still lots of fun. The goblin fight must have been one of the most entertaining battles I ever played in NWN2.

My only criticism is with some of the dialogue. While the words were exeptionally wellw ritten the contant "internet speak" irked me to no end. among all the *grin*, "smirk* and *bow* I wouldn't have wondered if somebody actually said "lol". Put me out of the mood a bit...

In the end, probably among my top 5. Outstanding.

Hello there,
I played this story with my 4th level Fighter Dwarf who finished 7th. Solo until the Drows' caves, took the Drow for story purpose and the thief for too many traps there.
The Abyss were not funny but it is my only con.
I encounter a bug in the end when taking the Stone, Drows there refuse to talk to me and so I don't know what they wanted.
Excellent story and dialogs. But in the end it would be nice to export the character.
Thanks for the job. I give a 9.

Indeed, a well-made module, with good pace and good storytelling. Character dialogue options are limited as stated in the review (not that my Paladin will do otherwise anyway). It was entirely bug-free for me so that was a blast. My only complaint will be that some of the areas are too big for my laptop (which ran fine on OC and expansions), worst of it during the goblin ambush when I'm getting less than 1 fps (it took me over 10 min to finish the fight). I have played it on NWN1 but it's still as good in NWN2.
The ending was too grim to my taste, worse when there isn't a sequel, it's also too short (which is entirely personal since I like building my char and I have only managed to level once throughout the campaign), also there is a lack of vendor for identifying towards the end (everything I got after the first half of Abyss stayed unidentified towards the end).

To conclude, it was a few hours that have been enjoyable. Thanks a lot for the module.

Again I just like to praise Phoenixus for a great module. The storytelling is superb, in the best tradition of DnD. This is a must-have for NWN2 fans!
I played with an Aasimar Paladin of ECL 6 on Hardcore rules and with all three companions. The game was just right in difficulty (that goblin cave is just whoa! I had to try it several times before I succeeded). Again I was impressed with the good use of terrain features in making combat interesting.
The mundane and magic items found were just right in number and power.
I could have wished for even more skill checks during conversations and exploration. Moreover, I always wish that modders would included at least 4 possible companions, in order to cover all the essentials roles in a party (tank, thief, healer, arcanist). But this time it worked well even without a mage in the party. But it's a bit frustrating not to have anyone who can put that Wand of Magic Missiles into good use...

I sincerely wish you will make a sequel, Phoenixus!

I must say I'm looking forward to replaying this once again, I played it long ago, but remember it as very well done, a true DnD-ish adventure. It's just like I feel the rain making its way inside my coat, standing there in Tragidor at the outset...

But LOL, I just find a tiny, nano-sized bug: When my Paladin talked to Rogath at the start, he urged me inside because he was worried about me catching a flu. Like, a seasoned traveller like him didn't know I was Immune to Disease?
I just had to mention this, as someone just said the module was flawless. But as I said, this is a perfect module, such items like I mentioned are just there to remind us that nobody's perfect...
I'm going with a girl this time, I'm looking forward to seeing how this will influence my perception of the module. It's so heavy in atmosphere, I'm kind of expecting it to feel different this time. Here we go!

Perfection in every aspect. I even enjoyed replaying it a couple of times too =)

Found no issues with it in a technical, storyline, polish, atmosphere and ect at all =)

Definately something I reccomend to everyone =)

Top notch indeed!

I'm rating this a 10 because I myself found no flaws, I enjoyed the game so much so that this would prob be the second or third time I've played this lol. It is a game that keeps you hooked, every area had something different n unique in it. All in all its def a game thats a must to play, posibly more than once lol.

But I got a question about the Ruined Keep. Are you gonna have a way of maybe being able to go bk n put those spirits to rest, that was the only part that I personally felt was unfinished n I hope maybe that you were planning something like that in the sequel. Looking forward to seeing this done n can't wait. Thank you for such an excellent n exciting game. Keep up the good work.

Excellent module! Especially if you keep in mind that this was one of the first modules for NWN2, so there was not much community content to use. The areas are made with love to details, and the NPCs are not only decoration like in some other mods. Fighting is challenging but balanced. The story is good, but nothing special. The only thing that really could be improved is the journal, that is almost used in the beginning. Later, you can get lost when you try to remember if you still have open subquests.
SPOILER:
When I entered the abyss, Delacya told me that I need cold iron weapons. I didn't have one, and there was no way back, so I had to reload. It would be better to learn this before you pass the gate.
I also found that the abyss chapter makes the story a little bit odd. If you play a good character, it is totally unlogical to enter the abyss. You would rather look for a way to destroy the Asberdies stone, maybe ask Old man Wilkers for advice.

A very decent module marred by an inability to get the ending to trigger. Also no message at portal.

Very good little adventure with nice environments and tight story. I liked the different locations and the small amount of intrigues.
Kept me hooked until I finished it a couple of hours later.

Posted by Dzwornga at 2009-07-08 09:01:18    Voted 7.00 on 07/08/09
The Outstanding : Few, if any errors in spelling / grammar - serious points for that. Every NPC had a name - it's a small thing that adds a lot to the atmosphere. Some areas under the old keep were friggin' creepy. I felt like my exploration of the map was actually rewarded. Beautiful use of colored lighting in the caves.

The Good : good inter-NPC dialogue. Not any randomly lootable crates and chests around town to distract from the story. Well-designed map.

The Bad : Bugged and unable to enter the lizard man well. Never found the orc chieftain, so couldn't finish the module. Packs of monsters regularly spawned on top of me, which is a rather huge design flaw IMO. Endless river of goblins slowed my frame rate to a crawl.

Overall : voted a 7 because it definitely deserves a look. If bugs and design flaws are cleaned up some, I think it could go much higher.

Nice work! I really enjoyed this module. The opening was just excellent. Truly atmospheric! Great job with the landscape and environment. I totally disagree with one of the negative reviews that complained about the plausibility of the landscape.

My only suggestions would be to add more random encounters in certain areas (that felt rather desolate) to help low-level characters level up to face some of the difficult challenges you've set up. I went through it with a 1st level character and it was tough!

All in all, great work. Thanks!

Good story. Well balanced combat. What I really liked was the fact that the story has an ending for each character. This really adds a lot to the experience.

Phoenixus, when can we expect to see the sequel?

Posted by Phoenixus at 2009-02-22 08:28:06
Yeah it should work. It was made when the game first came out and so far no patches have broken it.

Lariam had offered to test it out for me and pretty much confirmed it's doing ok and playable.

Posted by smdkeef at 2009-02-21 11:33:39
Phoenixus - I know you're working on a sequel to this module, but is this one updated for SoZ and current patch? The current patch version is quite old.

Posted by Apricane at 2009-02-21 02:54:12
Sorry, closed down the module after the first couple of conversations. I was immediately recognised as a ranger by a villager, who all of a sudden offered me 1000 gold for clearing a camp of orcs outside town, so that his men could earn their living coins. Thats quite unrealistic, since a day of labor is generally worth a single silver coin for an average laborer in Faerun. I know this is a game, and there isnt even silver coins in game, but how a commoner all of a sudden gets 1000 gold, and chose to spend it on an adventurer, so he can get back to work, is a mystery to me. Also, these first conversations seems pretty limited, and i have to click on (more) in a dialog to continue the conversation, it just seems rushed.

I wont vote since I havent played for more than about 5-10 minutes. Unfortunately, these first minutes scared me of, from playing the rest of the module.

Really enjoyed this mod. Good balance of hack/slash and interaction with NPCs. (What, no romance?) And a sad but interesting storyline. Looking forward to more of your work, Phoenixus.

Posted by Lariam at 2009-02-11 13:46:40    Voted 9.50 on 02/11/09
Well, I think my earlier comments already sum up pretty well my thoughts on this module. I've now finished it. To repeat, I was very impressed by how everything in this mod felt somehow *real*. The quests really managed to invoke some feelings, the NPCs aren't just NPCs but individuals with stories, the areas allow for free exploration and look good, the fights are challenging and fun (I probably should've played with a 5th level character, though). The story was interesting, and rather moving, at times. Phoenixus leaves it to the player to figure out some stuff. Not everything is made explicit. But the story, the locations, etc., aren't confusing, if one takes a little time to think about things. So, yeah, the mod seems pretty unique in these respects.

I thought coming back to Tragidor later on included some great moments. Like the visit to the inn, etc. Not going to include any spoilers here, but I thought that this was very well executed.

Any constructive criticisms? Well, not really. I already mentioned the typo-style stuff. Upon meeting Delacya I would've expected some more dialogue - being able to better ask her what she's up to, and so on. That was the only moment where I felt the story didn't really flow very smoothly. The Abyss was pretty disturbing (which is good), but the fights perhaps got a bit tedious at some points. Well, I'm not even sure about that.

So, I guess that's my impressions. Thanks, Phoenixus, for this memorable adventure. I very much look forward to experiencing the tale of the Asberdies.

Played a bit further, and I'm very impressed. This seems rather unique in some respects. I haven't seen such a realistic game world - I'm talking mainly about the area design here - in any other mod (including the official campaigns). Roaming the woods is absolutely great. A wholly different feel from anything else I've played, as far as NWN2 is concerned.

I'm also liking the quests and the characters. The latter feel rather genuine, real. Some pretty moving stuff. I really felt pretty sad when my character had to deliver some bad news, and so on.

The fights have been fun, too. And I know I've yet to experience some "legendary ones". :)

I also don't really see why some have complained about the companions being silent. I've been glad to notice they've got a lot to say about all sorts of things - you just need to talk to them.

There's one thing with regard to which the mod could be improved upon, I believe. There's quite a bit of typos in the writing (names spelled differently on different occasions, etc.). I know some feel that's not important. And it hasn't bothered me, really. Not much, at least. But getting rid of such things can sometimes have somewhat surprising effects - add a feel of a new layer of polish, even if one doesn't really miss anything having not experienced such extra layer.

But yeah, the mod's pretty awesome. Good stuff.

Cheers!
Lariam

I'm *finally* actually playing this. I was very impressed by the opening scene - it feels very real and immersive. The dialogue and the cut-scenes create a nice feeling of the folks really being in hurry. One can almost feel the rain pouring down and soaking one's armor. Also, the characters feel real; I love the little details about the different beer brands, the dice games that everyone's so excited about, and so on. A really effective opening.

I'm still only at the very beginning; I just entered the woods. The areas look good and seem to allow for relatively free roaming. It looks like you need to think about what to do for yourself. Which seems promising.

The only downside thus far is that my low-end machine really seems to have trouble running this module. I've never encountered anything remotely like the lag that I'm getting (for instance with the skeleton attacks in the ruins) here. The forest also seems very taxing for my computer. I'll try to fiddle with the settings. (And I wonder if I might have some sound problems, too, that might be causing the lag - there seems to be a lot of happening on the audio side, too.) But yeah, that's my problem, and not really the module's. I'm below the recommended, after all. I was just a bit surprised, given that this is one of the earliest modules, and I've been doing okay thus far with the official campaigns and all the other modules that I've played. But I'm fine as long as my system doesn't crash. I've got not only a three-and-a-half-years old laptop (it was pretty powerful for a laptop back then) but also a lot of patience. :)

I'm looking forward to continuing this one, and I was very glad to see that the sequel is in works. Indeed, that's what provided me the motivation to finally give this seemingly most excellent module a go.

Cheers!
Lariam

Thank you, Phoenixus, for a very enjoyable play experience with your module. I stick to the Voting Standard and rate it at 9.00 for a "Outstandig, Must Have" module and I recommend it to everyone that hasn't yet played your module.

Thanks again. Surely a "Must Have" that you did here. I really liked that you managed to combine story with challenging combat and outstanding area design like few others manage to do.

It played PERFECT in multi-player! That alone deserves a 10. It's the first mod for NWN2 that played flawlessly for my wife and I (D & J) in multi. We played NWN1 religiously but J had entirely given up on NWN2 because of crappy multi and various bugs. I convinced her to come back and try again and this mod hooked her :)

NOTE:We even had several overrides (SexyOC and SOC-Hammer, Charlie's UI/Modifier/Appearance, Spell fixes and classes to start a mystic theurge, sneak attack touch spells, modified 2das and my customized undead turning for classes and holy symbols).

That said, I myself played it twice. I also played it single player with Tanithiel (FRW persistent companion) as part of a FRW "campaign" (Subtle Thay/Tragidor/Night Howls). She played flawlessly as well. I estimate I got half-way through her "mod" in Tragidor. This fit her perfectly as there was limited hench interaction. You should recommend running her in this to anyone who gripes for more roleplay.

SPOILER**************

My one gripe would be the afore-mentioned system lag in the goblin cave battle (and we have decent systems). However, even then, the mod didn't crash like others in multi :D (We got our @zzes handed to us but hey, it didn't crash.)

This was an outstanding module. The storyline was well done, and many different people within Tragidor had sub-plots with other people. There was even underlying stories, like that of Prescilla.

The battles were scaled very appropriately, even when hordes of bad guys ran after the party. The NPC's were well conceived and played excellently into the storyline.

I cannot wait for the sequel. Any idea as to how long it will be? Just curious, so I can mark it on my calendar. :-)

The only part of the module that I really did not like was the fact that the henchman were with you one minute, and then just gone the next. I found that annoying, because I had equipped them with everything they had, and I did not know if I was to see them again. So, I had to reload and then strip them, and then proceed. Also, at the end of the module, the script should either export your PC, or give you a choice to do so before ending the module.

Still I loved it all in all. Keep up the good work.
