Here is the first module of the Asylum-Trilogy and I'd love to welcome you! I'm very nervous, because I've never been in front of such a big audience before. In fact I spent the last few months in a top-secret laboratory as a slavery guinea pig of an insane nameless creature, who only called himself "Builder". These are also the reasons for my pale skin and my uncountable amount of gashes. You need to understand; my tormentor was just a freaky perfectionist, always putting new dresses on me and cutting and inserting pieces out of my flesh while putting me in front of his mirrors, lightning every single inch of my body and crying and shouting at me the whole day mean things like "You are too fat!", "You are too buggy!", "I don't like your friends!" and so on. Oh! In addition, I beg your pardon for the horrible smell. I'm sweating pretty much everywhere, because of my adventurous and dangerous escape. The laboratory is the place, where I won't return ever again and the reason why I'm talking to you: As you heard I was having a hard time, so please, please hide me on your hard disk from my hostage-taker if there's anything like a heart in your brea...uh-oh...
HAHAHA! GOT YOU, MODULE!
Oh, please! No! Have merc...
HEHEHE! I JUST KNOCKED YOU OUT, MY MODULE! AND NOW I'M GONNA PUT YOU BACK INTO MY LABORATORY, LOCK YOU INTO MY MACHINE OF REPRODUCTION AND SPREAD YOUR LITTLE BROTHERS AND SISTERS ALL OVER THE NET!
ALL BECAUSE IT'S RELEASE DAY! YEAH!
SO MY DEAR PLAYERS - DOWNLOAD AND PLAY THE FIRST MODULE OF THE ASYLUM-TRILOGY: "A BET, A CORPSE"!
IT'S ABOUT SOMEBODY POISONING YOUR MIND AND YOU KILLING YOUR FATHER, KING TRISTAN CARROLL III. OR PROBABLY NOT. BUT WHO KNOWS EXCEPT FOR ME, THE ALMIGHTY BUILDER?
I'm playing with NWN2 in version 1.23 without any extension.
But I can't use egg or wings to help my competitor. Must I have the 3 objects to interact or is it broken ?

I am a big fan of weird games, but this was just a bit too vague and freaky even for me. Needs to be reworked so it is less cryptic. _________________________ Mediocrity ain't so bad!
Would someone be able to give me an idea of what level the following character would end up as after completing this mod:
Level 10: Barbarian 6, Warlock 4 - Genesai (sp?)
I think I have some experience penalty resulting from the uneven multiclasse. Not sure for Genesais. Hope I do anyway - trying to slow down level progression.
Thanks a tonne

I really enjoyed playing this. Can't wait for the third part!

Despite lots of custom scripting this was bug-less for me with patch 1.6.
A word of warning - these are not typical modules and no normal considerations matter.
It is a quirky, creative, exuberant experience that one follows. There is little for the player to do but to take it all in - adventure elements are very slight.
In fact, Asylum is more a performance than a game. But given the quality of the offering, it was more than enough for me.
A weird, but engrossing story, good original music, fantastical area design, evocative custom loading screens and amazing visual effects, all kept me glued to my computer from start to finish (always excepting some unavoidable RL interruptions).

Very interesting implementation of the NWN2 engine. What you have here is a surrealist interactive film. I don't know if it's entirely successful, but it certainly is a good attempt.
Strengths:
*Really nice scripting, very original implementation of ideas.
*Original Story
*Original Soundtrack
*Original Load Screens
*Basically, a transformation of NWN2.
Weaknesses:
*Extremely linear & short.
*No real "gameplay." The puzzles aren't really puzzles, and the combat isn't really combat.
*Sometimes the desired effect (such as the quick fade outs in the beginning) don't quite work as intended. Scripting can also be clunky at times. _________________________ Smorpheus' Toolset Visual Index Link

Nicely done psychedelic experiment! After playing this I actually saw nightmares where places and people shifted without apperent reason.
I haven't played the second part yet but hopefully it fixes the couple of flaws in this bizarre diamond:
- more lenght
- not so sudden ending and
- actual challenge (possibility for failure).
I also hope that third part is coming soon. _________________________ A good module author is PAG: Patient, Ambitious and Gutsy.

I'm giving this a ten - and, given the fact that I take the NWN2 voting guidelines quite seriously, that is not a decision made lightly. However, I truly consider this module series to be "genuinely groundbreaking" - the things Christian has made the Toolset *do* are nothing less than astonishing. A totally mind-bending experience that really made me think deeply and enter into the spirit of confusion that the character must be experiencing under the circumstances. Thank you for this excellent piece of work! _________________________ KotOR Heads FR Deity and Faction Cloaks Fall-from-Grace Soundset

A hard module to get my mind around. Some nice change in area design, good direction. Great use of custom music to fit and create the mood of the story. Played A Bet, A Corpse and right after, A Corpse, A Vote. Going to vote on that one next. :)

That was fantastic! One of the most original, outlandish, fantastic modules I've ever played! The atmosphere was fantastic, and I really sympathised with the character. I loved the disjoined plot progression and the music was perfect.
I didn't encounter any bugs, so my sincere congratulations on this ambitious and unique project. Awesome, awesome, awesome.
Can't wait for the third installment!

Great mod, I enjoyed the bizarre locations and clever dialogue. I, for one, don't really care that it didn't have any real "D&D" in it. D&D rules don't translate well to CRPGs at all anyway, especially the combat system. Not to mention that formulaic "kill evil X, save helpless Y, and become the hero" plots get really old. Really, really, REALLY old.
I was considering rating it down a bit due to a few minor glitches and text goofs, but the amount of originality and creativity demonstrated more than make up for these issues. The vault needs more modules like this one, and I look forward to playing through the next two chapters.

I'm going to be voting this for module of the year. It may not have the wide appeal of others, but it is truly unique for a bunch of reasons I'm sure everyone already knows, and more importantly it is part of the only module series I'm genuinely eager to play. I'm sorry if that's insulting to other authors, but I simply can't relax and enjoy the story/atmosphere if I'm worried about optimizing for combat. Since in this module the character I choose doesn't matter, I can just enjoy it without all the baggage that comes with playing most modules.
I didn't vote until now because I wasn't quite certain what rating to give, but now I'm sure. Congratulations Mr. Mayr, you've made an outstanding contribution here and I hope you'll be recognized for it.

Outstanding example of what someone can do with the NWN2 platform to tell a creative story (or at least the first part of one) where the player participates and experiences it firsthand. It's not D&D (and therefore not everybody's cup of tea, as it were), but very well done. Great use of custom content as well, and making ordinary content seem quite extraordinary.
Author has English as a second language, so not all the dialog is grammatically perfect; however, the surrealistic/dreamscape/insanity setting actually sort of benefits from the occasional linguistic mismatch. A sophisticated level of dialog overall.
I thought a brief appearance by the author as an NPC early on was a bit out of place; others have done it in mods (e.g. Stefan Gagne) but at the end, rather than breaking immersion. A minor point, however.
Thank you for an extraordinary experience.

Played this last nite before bed.
Lol WOW its entertaining.
Much different then I expected. It was refreshing to see that killing monsters wasn't the basis of the mod.
Would like to see more mods with less attention to fighting and more attention to puzzles and game world.
It wasn't perfect but was very entertaining so I give it a 9.
Its also my first played NWN2 mod from someone else.

It's the most original and funny adventure for NWN2 I've seen by now! My respect to the creator for the characters, conversations and visualization. Now downloading second chapter. _________________________ "Where's the rest of my noose collection, Max?"

Just THE BEST experience in NwN 2 until now ! No more, no less. If you look for something different of the others, just jump in The Asylum... _________________________ Ooooppppsss, I've mistaken your pocket and mine, no big deal, buddy... Hey, man, could you stop punching me when I'm talking to you ? Ooooch !
on the one hand it is a hall of fame module with lots of votes... on the other hand the crux of the description is all caps shouting to download and vote (thats a bad thing btw)... I am really not sure if I should actually try it... _________________________ I do not have a superman complex; for I am God, not Superman!

Well, it's a absolutly different adventure, not long enough to make too many conclusion, but the series has quite a bit possibilitys. I'm eager to play second part and see if the serie is really good.

Just replayed it before trying "a vote". Hum...didn't I vote the first time around? Anyway. Liked it a lot. And I love David Lynch... you don't have to perfectly understand something to be entertained by it... Excellent - 8, plus 1 for great music and amibance minus 0,25 for some ugly annoying lighting. And the most annoying Christian Mayr character.
Errors I've seen in v 1.5 (SPOILERS)
Upon entering the hive "they prefer dead..." shouldn't it be "they prefer death" ?
Back in bedroom, after choosing "I want to see my father's face...", you should delete the weird "edited for proper english..."

You have to kill one of the drones to continue. I did it out of my own initiative. Killing weird bugs makes sense even for an insane person ;)
10 - A Masterpiece, Genuinely Groundbreaking 9 - Outstanding, a Must Have 8 - Excellent, Recommended to Anyone 7 - Very Good, Deserves a Look 6 - Good, Qualified Recommendation 5 - Fair, Solid yet Unremarkable 4 - Some Merit, Requires Improvements 3 - Poor Execution, Potential Unrealized 2 - Very Little Appeal 1 - Not Recommended to Anyone
