This plugin converts an interior area with one of the tilesets "City Interior", "Castle interior", "Drow interior", "Illithid Interior", "Mines and Caverns", "Dungeon", "Crypt" or "Ruins" from NWN1. It attempts to convert everything in the area. Not all tiles are correctly converted, because not all have a NWN2 equivalent.
The plugin works using a database file where for every NWN1 tile ID, the NWN2 equivalent is noted. The plugin simply searches the database to convert the area. I made the database by making a special module for NWN1, containing all the tiles. By rebuilding the same area in NWN2, I could build the conversion database. The module files I used are also downloadable here.
Version history:
1.0: Initial release
1.1: Added support for placeables and added Illithid Interior
1.2: Fixed compatibility with NWN2 patch 1.10 (build 1115)
1.3: Added "Mines and Caverns", added placeable inventory, added more placeables, and fixed bug with placeable orientation
1.4: Added conversion of triggers, waypoints, doors, creatures and stores
1.5: Added "Dungeon" tileset (lava is not converted), added more placeables
1.6: Added conversion of sounds, added Crypt tileset (without pits and bridges), added more placeables
1.7: Added conversion of encounters, creature skin/hair color, added more placeables
1.8: Fixed bugs: now correctly works when saving module directly after conversion; checks correctly for missing resources (expect longer log files!)
1.9: Better conversion of items, Added "use existing area" feature, various other fixes/improvements.
1.10: Added "Ruins" tileset (without pits and bridges), even better item conversion (for armor).
1.11: Default tile selectable, Standard door added if no specific door found.
1.12: Fix crash on custom armor, fix memory leak, retain area ambient music, variables on objects, added more placeables
1.13: Fix encounter conversion bug, added encounter spawn points, added more placeables
1.14: Better tile conversion and more placeables for City Interior tileset.
1.15: Fixed encounter conversion crash (thanks Ransom), added more placeables
Areas containing all tiles and placeables in both NWN1 and NWN2. This is not needed to use the plugin, only download if you want to see how I made the database. You are also free to use these files to help me improve the conversion database :-).
I love your converter but I am having trouble with converting crypt areas. Has anyone else had this trouble? It says that it cannot identify a matching tile set?
I like this but I have a request. Can you make it so it copies exterior areas too? And maybe , since I am asking, add an area continuity tool ? I am afraid to vote because it can use improvement, but it is a groundbreaking tool too...It works,is a seven ok for now? guess we will see. I will raise it if you can get exteriors in.

Thanks a lot for your answer Sothis B. I tried to follow the footsteps of MikeLM9215 who used your tool to convert a few bioware contest modules. Let me try again with a module with a single interior area.
@Mirgalen:
I tried to convert the kami mod. Since it is an exterior area, this tool cannot do very much with it. The only thing it can do is copy the objects into an existing NWN2 exterior area. So I created a new empty area, and used the converter to select the NWN1 .mod file. In the converter, I selected the option to use an existing area. The result is not very good as I expected, but I encountered no error.

4 - Some Merit, Requires Improvements
This is my vote for the time being.

Still does not worked. I installed the latest version and now can see the plugin in the toolset. If I try to import/convert a nwn 1 module using the plugin I get a java error. If I open the nwn 1 module and save it as nwn2 before applying the plugin when I apply the plugin everything seems to work except that I get no tile (all black). May be it the way around but it sure does not work. I tried to convert the module kami as it was converted before. Clearly if I need to export an area as an erf and use the plugin to convert it why not say so?

thanks for the update. This is one of my essential tools...
Anyone know how to get this working for the latest patch?

I would be happy to give this a high vote but I found two strong reasons not to:
1. It does not work and need to be updated or at least that the error message I get.
2. I did not find a single place with some basic info about how to use this thing so something that could allow a lot of people to try to port nwn module to nwn2 seems to be reserved to the "experts". There is a tutorial about "Importing NWN1 creatures into NWN2" something similar for this tool is a must if the author would like to offer this to a larger audience. Just my 2 cents.

This plugin saved me hours and hours and hours of work converting my old NWN1 interiors. What a welcome relief to find this little gem after taking 2 years off from modding.

Looks like all those hours spent building aren't in the trash after all. Nice.

Outstanding contribution to the community. Very helpful in converting existing NWN1 modules and also in speeding up design and building of NWN2 interiors via NWN1 prototypes. Thanks very much for creating and maintaining this plugin.

Wow. This is the kind of thing I wish that had been in the initial release. For those of us with existing NWN1 content we wanted to migrate this is a god send...
Many thanks!

Worked for me, good stuff.

Placeables are causing many areas made by several tilesets to crash frequently. You get the walls and floors, but nothing else. Unchecking placeables solves the problem. _________________________ The road to Ravenloft is paved with good intentions.

Well, thanks for trying. I tested the new version with the same area and got the same error. Maybe it's got something to do with the particular NWN1 module I'm using. No big deal. I'm doing massive editing on the encounters anyway, so creating them from scratch isn't any more work.
@Ransom:
I have done some testing with encounters, but unfortunately I have not been able to reproduce the bug. After reviewing the code I did however find something that could possibly cause an error, I have fixed this. Also, I noticed that encounter spawn points were not converted, so I have added that. Version 1.13 is uploaded.

By the way, I like that plug in now retains area ambient music. Thanks.

Still having problems with areas containing encounters. The symptoms are slightly different now, but the end result is the same.
1) Import area
2) Plugin reports an unhandled exception (Input string not in correct format) and conversion stops. However, the log looks like it converted everything up until it reached the end of the last encounter in the area... It doesn't say "Conversion completed." at the end, but everything before that is as usual (a bunch of Encounter creatures not found at the end, of course).
3) Open area. Everything looks ok.
4) Close and save area. Toolset reports problems.
5) Reopen area. Everything still looks ok.
6) Save module, then reopen it. No problems reported.
7) Attempts to open the area show problems and the area will not open.
8) Delete area and reimport, deselecting the option to convert encounters.
9) Now everything's okay; no problems saving etc.
Since most encounters need to be rebalanced for NWN2 anyway, this isn't a big deal, just thought I'd report it.
