As I am sure some of you have spotted, Obsidian/Atari have decided that we should be spared the more "creative" words in the English language - words such as cockerel and shitsu - which they feel are not right for inclusion in our character names ;)
It has also come to my attention that players wishing to list certain professions in their name have been prevented! For example, "Gregor the Analyst" was unhappy to find his name become "Gregor the lolyst".
Further more, fans of ice skating were horrified to discover that they were unable to make a character based on their favourite skater, Irina Slutskaya - "Irina ladyskaya" just didn't have the same ring to it!
Here is a UI modification that lifts the restriction on the names of our more amusing wildlife and professions in our player character names :)
At any rate, it's easy to dodge the censorship in character naming, at least in my version of the game. Just insert some random letter in the middle of the word you know is gonna be censured. After finishing typing the whole name, position the cursor back to that letter, and delete it. The game will accept it as is.
For an example, instead of "Slutskaya", type "Sleutskaya". Then, just put the cursor back in front of the "e" and delete it.
Bah... I eventually managed to downlaod this, but dropping it in the My Documents/Newevinter Nights 2/ui folder did nothig. Ditto when I tried dropping it in the Override. _________________________ Adventure! How do I install this? Drop into Override Directory in NWN2/My Documents or what?
I'll vote once I figure out how to install it. _________________________ Ugly_Ducks Portfolio

I so agree, and what they fail to realise is that we're not all from english speaking countries and so are not OK to have our traditional names flagged as being naughty just because they (or part of them) have some other, not politically correct meaning in english!

NWN2 Voting Standards:
10 - A Masterpiece, Genuinely Groundbreaking
9 - ......
That should say all.

Just amazing, as others have said I can understand censoring the campaign they built, but this is just ridiculous.

I would characterize this as "a must have", thusly 9 / 10. Censorship is *bleep*ing moronic.
NwN2 isn't censored in Scandinavia... I created "funny" PC names without any problem. Even 'real names', eg. Adolf Hitler, Iosif Stalin - the game didn't object.
Maybe in US of A. _________________________ ::RAWR::

only a moron censors language in a game, it pleases no one, not the parents, and not the players.
The only game Ive seen it done well in was Dewprism.

Freedom is an illusion, And there never was such a thing as free speech it does not exsist. So what ever happen to free speech? It never happend in the 1st place and religion is the the biggest opposition of free speech. Take a look at history and all the people the church killed for speaking the truth :D
Hi, 'shitsu' is not a word in any language. What you're looking for is 'shih tzu'.
Not that it isn't totally *bleep*ing ridiculous that *bleep*ers put profanity filters in all their *bleep*ing*bleep*. But Bioware is not the only *bleep* that does it.

Well I was the first to post and I want to be the first to congratulate you! You did us all a great favor and now it has reached the Hall of Fame... well done!
Though I must add: I wish one day things like this UI modification won't be necessary anymore.
People should start to study History... the road which starts with censorship usually leads to a rather unpleasant end... it is better to avoid it.

I'm not likely to ever need this as most of my character's names are based on Welsh history/mythology or are just ones I think sound good! However, being dead against censorship I'm all for this mod, whilst I understand the fact that Obsidian HAVE to censor to get a certain rating, that doesn't mean I have to like it. Score one for freedom. _________________________ "Never be afraid to be the first one to resort to violence"

Props for making this! We should be able to choose our own names. Plus, the censor "tool" is biased language-wise, censoring legitimate names in russian, polish, etc

That they want to censor themselves is silly, but respectable... that they want to censor others (meaning each one of their players) is intolerable.
Great work... a pitty it is necesary.

Yay. 1000th download. Do I win anything?
Anyway, a 10. Because this genuinely IS groundbreaking and therefore definitely fits the 10 in the voting standards. It IS groundbreaking to all the censoring christian *ssh*l*s who try to ruin the world for everyone else because they're too ret*rded to deal with life.

I never thought I would need this hak, until I did need it. It's a lovely humble piece of work, and I love it for keeping my names and phonetics looking "right". Thank you!

I say that there is quite enough censorship in the video game industry as it is. We should be able to choose our own names. Good work! _________________________ ADK

People who vote a 1 on this for no reason are the cause of game companies getting away with censorship in the first place. If the parents of a child are lax enough to let their kid play the game and not care what the child uses as a character name why is it the game companies job to step in and parent for them? _________________________ "Save Early, Save Often"

This deserves a 10 for being a ground breaking acheivement against evil corporate christian America, which is slowly suffocating not only all sources of fun, but all sources of imagination, creativity, knowledge, and society as we know it.
I reccommend all people please download this now and rate a 10.
All people who come to this download and rate it less then 8 are obviously complete *bleep*ing morons with no sense of honor, dignity, or even intelligence. _________________________ @===============================================@
Vinchenzo made a post here.
Plz check out my entries. I'm currently making a few simple modules, designing 3 special characters, and hope to someday be good this stuff.
This is Vinchenzo, finishing his post with the following advice:
Don't use Latin improperly (Lupis means grey, Rufus is red, Canid is dog, so on.) Furries annoy me with their improper usage of such. And I'm a furry!!! Ugh...
Don't vote for Beta things unless told they are finished, unless posted specifically by the author.
Don't abuse the vote and post function, don't vote for your own/friends stuff just to get a high vote. Don't flame vote either just to be an ass.
There is a voting system for how the points are used, even I forget, but we should follow it (and tattoo it to our forehead, lol)

jeff_m, you are using such an exaggerated definition of "censorship" that the burden of proof is on you to demonstrate that you are not in fact trolling.
Your game? Evidently you've never read the EULA. You purchased the privelige of placing the software on one computer. They still own the software so they can censor anything they like since they still own it.
Besides, this is a silly argument: everyone censors. Anytime you believe something, you must censor its opposite. You can't believe two opposing docrines (at least in a sane manner) at the same time. You can't even have law without censorship, since laws censor actions that it deems morally, politically, etc objectionable.
10 - A Masterpiece, Genuinely Groundbreaking 9 - Outstanding, a Must Have 8 - Excellent, Recommended to Anyone 7 - Very Good, Deserves a Look 6 - Good, Qualified Recommendation 5 - Fair, Solid yet Unremarkable 4 - Some Merit, Requires Improvements 3 - Poor Execution, Potential Unrealized 2 - Very Little Appeal 1 - Not Recommended to Anyone
