Broken file links pulled. Only version I still had was for the original game. Sorry, I couldn't locate the versions for the x-packs.
This simple mod allows you to multi-class your companion into any class they are eligible for.
There are a couple of display bugs I cannot figure out.
1.. Avatar shows class specific armors instead of current armor.
2.. Will occasionally highlight a class the character is not eligible for. Ineligible classes cannot be selected though.
** WARNING **
If you decide to multi-class your companion into a caster (e.g. wizard), and their casting stat is not 11+, then you will not be able to cast spells.
==> Installation <==
1. Download the file. Right click the file and select "Save Link As..."
2. Place file, levelup_class.xml, into folder: My Documents/Neverwinter Nights 2/override
3. Enjoy
levelup_class.xml Modified levelup_class.xml file. Avatar shows class specific armors, but that's a cosmetic thing I haven't figured out yet. Re-upload of original mod.
@Tellos: To dl the file you need to right click on it and select save as. Left clicking on it will cause your browser to try to open it, which you do not want.
However, since the chance of any updates beyond 1.23 is nil there is no further need for this as long as you are playing the Windows version. Just open the toolset and select the Campaign Editor from the Plugins menu. In the editor select the campaign you want to alter on the left and then in the right pane change AllowUnrestrictedLevelUp to True and then click on "Save Campaign". That should do it. Bear in mind that Khelgar has his class changed in the OC anyway, so you should probably not multi-class him.
Bump The link seems broke any chance of it being fixed Thank

To enable it in expansion, you need to make two copies of the file and rename them to levelup_classx1.xml and levelup_classx2.xml.
This way works for me.
It doesn't work for me :(
I'm sorry guys, I know it's been a long while since anyone used this/commented here, but I would really like my stupid companions to be able to multiclass :(
I'm using the last patched game, with MotB and SoZ installed, and it won't work. I'm trying it both with saved game and with a brand-new game, although in this last case I'm skipping the tutorial and trying to multiclass bevil and amie, don't know if it makes any difference. In both cases, it doesn't work. I've tried everything, from changing the name of the file to manually edit the line 161, as mentioned in the previous comments. Any idea of how I could have my companions multiclass please?
P.S: I've tried other mod that should allow for companion multiclass, most of which involved editing packages.2da, but they won't work either... What should I do?
Thanks! :)
I've pulled hte broken links and re-uploaded the original mod. I no longer have the changes made for the x-pack. _________________________ Companion Multi-classing
I did the save as, kept original name, put it in the My Documents ... override. Started new OC game, Brought Kelgar up to Dwarven Defender stats, Neeska to Shadow Thief of Ahm stats, nothing happened. Neither Opera nor IE 7 will display file. Here is copy of what I have from Notepad++ xml view. Sorry it never kept the color highlights nor line numbers.
Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give.

Are there any other options than changing LEVELUP to CHARGEN?
I'm going through the OC right now, and whenever I level up a companion(say, neeshka) I'll actually take me through the character creation process. Choose a background, alignment, etc, and even renaming. It resets my skills (Everything is at 0, but I could place *all* my starting points in say, Hide), aswell as my attributes(Could go as high as 20).
When I decided to try and go through with it, it decided to try and replace my character (didn't save obv, but eh).
Are there any alternatives at the moment?

Copy levelup_classx2.xml to your override folder and change LEVELUP to CHARGEN to enable companion multiclassing post-SoZ. At least I'm assuming it's SoZ that's causing the problem. I have MoW and SoZ installed.

This add-on works fantastically. I haven't been able to accomplish much yet, but I am almost to the point where Khlegar can take his first level of Dwarven Defender (and thus become invincible), and I haven't decided what I will have Neeshka take. Elanee will probably be a shifter I am playing a drow wizard (+2 LA is hurting for the time being). Just a general question, does LA make my drow's level cap 18 instead of 20? Because I want to go Eldritch Knight and don't want to miss out on 9th level spells.

@grimmwor: No. Don't do that. I'm using Vista 32-bit, and it works exactly the same way. Put it into your equivalent of the "My Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2\override" folder, which in Vista is "Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2\override" (the base dir is now "Users" instead of "Documents and Settings").

Absolutely fantastic, and a must have. Being able to multiclass all my companions in the OC as a serious amount of fun. A real must-have after playing through the OC once. Neeshka was always kind of useless to me before since I play as a rogue/bard, but now she's a damage output champion as a Rogue/fighter/tempest. Khelgar as a Frenzied Berzerker? Bishop as an Assassin? Casavir as a Shining blade (with 1 level of rogue!) Yes, please. I'm already planning on what awesome things I'm going to do with my companions the next time I play through. Thanks so much for this.

Brilliant. So simple, adds whole new dimensions to the game.

This is the best and easiest to use mod out there for multi-classing companions.

The system is interesting and very creative!
Good solid work and I'm sure that it can only get better!
Cheers

@ dichotomy - Same way that you multi-class anyone else, wait til they level up and then pick a new class they are qualified for. _________________________ Companion Multi-classing

This is good.
How would you multiclass the following: Gann and Bishop?

Christoph Gasser: Thanks for your solution for MotB,I got it working now.
DMCain: Now I see what all the fuss was about, this is awesome.
Thanks

DMCain: Does this work with saved games? When I opened a save game after installing your file nothing happens when I level up.
