This system includes all-new material as well as modern-related resources from the NWN community (compatible with CEP 2.0 for 1.3 and 1.69/CEP 2.1 for 1.4), a complete translation of D20 Modern rules to NWN, and a detailed manual on how to play, DM, and build using the system.
To install the D20 Modern system for NWN, you'll the haks/material located on this page and the base module. The class system is optional, and may be omitted.
Unzip or unrar all .hak files to your nwn/hak directory. Unzip other material to the directories included in the archive files: the .mod file to nwn/modules, the .tlk file (mdrn2_tlk.tlk) to nwn/tlk (you may need to make a directory), the .wav ambient sounds to nwn/ambient, and the .bmu music to nwn/music.
Important: When creating new characters, you must create them locally, not on a server. The base module may be used to do this, and has a levelling chain in the Test Area. You must use the following technique exactly:
Load NWN, select New -> Other Modules -> choose Modern Base -> select Use Premade Character (do not select New Character from the first menu) -> then, select New Character button below the Show Pregenerated Characters checkbox. If you don't do this, the game will crash, so be sure to do it as described. The use of Recommend should be avoided, as in some classes this can cause points to be placed in skills not used in the D20 system.
You can then save your character (Export Character) and provide your .bic file (from nwn\localvault) to your server host. To run a Server Vault game, you'll have to have players send you their character (.bic) files that they made locally and put them in your nwn\servervault under their player name.
Update 09/11/08: Update 1.4 is complete (we hope) with a partial compromise compatibility with 1.69/ CEP 2.1 systems. You'll need mdrn4_top, mdrn4_class, and mdrn4_music (courtesy of David Johns fine work) as well as the new mdrn4_tlk file. The new base module utilises all of these. The update also includes some corrections for the Search skill as a class feat, corrected models and textures and improved heads.
Known issues for 1.4 update:
- Introduction of 1.69 has overwritten many of the creatures and the blueprints in the base are not all correct. We're working on an ERF and new base module to change that.
- Portraits are heavily affected by new 1.69 material. Existing PCs and creatures with D20 portraits could need to be reviewed.
- New 1.69 and CEP material has overwritten existing D20 placeables. We have preserved reverse compatibility for 1.4 in existing D20 modules, and so some CEP blueprints will not give the intended appearance.
- Clashes with door blueprints may impact on the style of doors used by new standard tilesets.
- There's a known issue between the D20 skill and the newly introduced standard riding system. It is the source of compile errors, but does not affect functionality. This is currently being examined and we hope to correct in an ERF shortly.
NB: Those who want to download in full then Berra has compiled them here Link We are keeping the 1.4 release haks separate to lessen the download for those using mods designed under the 1.3 release.
HAK list:
mdrn4_class (if using class system)
mdrn4_top
mdrn3_class (if using class system)

NOTE: The latest version of the modern system haks can be found here.
Updated version of module including 1.4 files. Note this is the Gray Sector module, with Forestwolf's areas retained as the excellent examples that they are, but does NOT update the original material for the Gray Sector campaign in anyway.

Great stuff! I used the current version in my recently almost completed fun module "A Hippie's Tale", and I hope I will be able to include version 2.0 in my future module.
I especially like the clothes and heads and then there are plenty of very nice placeables (my favourite is still the toilet ;). Thanks for this wonderful piece of work! _________________________ "A Hippie's Tale", a colouful little module: Link

The Alpha of the 2.0 version of the haks has been released for testing via the D20 forums. If you want to be involved in the quality assurance process taking place over there then use the link above to find out more.

Just an absolutely essential mod that finally allows us to think outside the fantasy-themed box! I've been working with this content for some time now and am still amazed at the quality and thoroughness of the content offered (They even have every kind of street sign!).

"Work begins on D20 Modern 2.0 and, with the gracious permission of the CEP team, will include a dedicated set of CEP haks focusing on content most useful to a modern/sci fi setting.
Keep your eyes open for discussions on the key content to include." -quoted from the d20 frontpage news by VanyaMia.

We'll be holding some discussions on the d20 forums, and postings the lists of content to choose from.
The community members on our forums will play a large part in selecting the final content, so feel free to join in and have your say once the threads are up! :)
With CEP 2.2 and its new format + finally noticing in this sea of downloads a more recent base module, I was able to get a builders module that seems reasonably problem free at last. But as other comments after me point out-your download page is getting to convuluted. I understand your reasoning for seperating your files, but there comes a time when you need to archive your older stuff, and clean up your rooms. This is a great achievement and it sucks that 3 out of 4 newcomers are going to scratch their heads and walk (click) away. You have a major new release coming out soon, why not set it up on a new page with prominant links to this one? And while the all-in-one download may be allright, its STILL to much of a mess on this page to figure out what is new add-on material, and what is not needed. Not trying to be all WTF or anything, just suggesting that you will get more new fans if you make an effort to be more user friendly. _________________________ LeClaire

Gondana, the reason for splitting the haks is the same as for any other system; there are elements of the modern system that builders may want but not others. There are a few who want the placeables and/or clothing but leave everything else as vanilla NWN, and lots will go for the full modern setting but prefer not to use the class system. As a result each element has always been kept seperate. The system also suffers a little from being 3 stages of development, with 1.4 still requiring 1.3, and both still requiring 1.2, and as there are some mods which use each of those three stages independantly it's necessary to keep them available as separate downloads. Version 2.0 is under development and will remove this, but it's a fact of life if you look at systems, such as CEP, that are developed over a long period of time too.
Biren, if they are not there it is an oversight. The modern system should work with the full CEP 2.1 install. It will be looked at.
Claire, the link is to a full download, we decided to do that and and not clog the vault with a repetition. As for the other comments I'm not sure what you are experiencing. The list of haks is complete so if you have them all then you have everything. What you may be experiencing is the issue we have described previously in that the modern creature blueprints are out of date because of CEP 2.1 and 1.69 changes. A new base module is under construction which will address that. With a small team, and limited time, we decided to launch 1.4 before the base module was complete.

Whats with the bit where you spread all the content over as large an area as possable? _________________________ Short term project: Need more -monsters-
I took a look at the haks in the Modern 1.4 base module...and the CEP2.1 haks dont match with the CEP instructions. The phenos_{3,4,5} and the core{0,6} haks as well as cep_custom.hak are not present. Is this correct? Did I miss some instructions somewhere which indicate that non-standard CEP installation is correct?
Perhaps I used the wrong terminalogy (and frustration was certainly making me ruder than I normally am for witch I apologize). I ment a single download (preferably an executable). I use haks and multiple haks all the time and after four attempts at using this thing to try and build a module, the best ive been able to do is see about half of the content in the toolkit. The rest is always gibberish, invisable, or bits and pieces of scripts. And then thinking about trying to add in others content---shudder. Many of us have broadband, a more compact download would be immensly helpful for all of us who are not experts. Thats all I ment. I dont mean to belittle their accomplishment. And the link is just a zipped version of all the files and not even up to date. _________________________ LeClaire

Arrghh!!! I checked every day on the module entry waiting for 1.4, never realising that it is up for almost 2 weeks. Damn you, Mary Jane!

There is a link to the all in one download in the description. Not really sure how more clear it could be.
For christ sakes will you guys please release a VERY clearly marked all-in-one download for the most recent (as of Nov. 2008) version of this thing. Dont worry about those who cant handle the download all at once, thier files are up. I have downloaded and tryed to install this stuff three times now and I just cant seem to be able to manage dealing with this many files at once. Inevitably I end up with a wrong version of this-or a conflicting resource with that! And I install custom content and remove it all of the time! How many people need to ask for this over the years? _________________________ LeClaire

is the mini gun still upside down? also, the flamethrower should be a separate weapon class. other wise you end up being able to use shot gun ammo with it.

1.4 is now available for download from this page. This is worked to give as much compatibility with 1.69 and CEP 2.1 as we can include without creating problems for existing 1.3 based modules. Compromise was necessary because of the extensive models included in the 1.69 release and as well as CEP. As a result there are unavoidable issues for creature blueprints in existing modules, but we have sought to avoid conflict with placeables and prioritised reverse compatability on that front.
We don't expect it to be bug free, and welcome any reports of such. Reports are easier to track in one location so please post any over at the D20 forums!

Thank you for having them split into several different downloads so that people don't have to grab the whole thing when the server they play on only uses a handful of them. :o) _________________________ Don't ask me what I think of you,

so... when will the new haks be here exactly? is there any forum to look at progressing updates?
@Berra: all PCs and NPCs should automatically have a reload feat. But it should also appear in the radial menu. Come to the d20mm forums for help if you're still having trouble.
@Graymaster: Thank you for your encouragement. At the moment we're working on compatibility with both 1.69 and CEP 2.1. But that said, we've also just began discussing things with the CEP team to keep things compatible between our next big release and CEP 2.2.

No one else having trouble with reloading guns? No matter what I try, I can't reload them! Kelkesh12345 said that there should be a radial-menu for that kind of thing, but I can't manage to find anything like it.
I'm very new to the d20 overall, so I may be missing something obvious.
