Port Maddog, a lawless, fog-shrouded port city teeming with thieves, villains, scoundrels... and endless opportunities. You've come to the city seeking to join The Shadowdwellers, a guild of rogues and mercenaries known for their skill, honor and unique brand of justice. But it is a dark time for the guild. One of their own, a highly skilled 'second story man' known as Otto 'Grand Theft' Cutpurse, was captured while looting the royal coffers. The guild must find a way to break him out of the palace dungeon, and soon. Tomorrow at noon he's going to be executed in the public square. In The Company of Thieves is an inner-city campaign for rogues and mercenaries who enjoy working outside the law, and was inspired by fantasy works like the 'Thieves World' series, the 'Lankmahr' novels by Fritz Lieber, and the 'Riftwar' novels by Raymond Fiest. Nice mod.
As always few complaints:
- no XP for traps, locked doors(there were few only) etc.
- no char export at the end
- doors need keys - so why a rogue, when you cant pick locks?
- when I stepped on conversation trigger it always says everything twice in a row
- almost nothing to pickpocket(only random "drops" from like 3 NPCs in the entire town) _________________________ Thanks Rolo:)

To be honest, the spike trap reminded me of Mario Bro. I'm not sure if it is me or a bug, but I was never able to get Otto ...once I got the key, (I didn't speak to him first I just noticed the gate needed a special key and their was only one door in the room)I opened the gate and talked to Otto. He talked as if I had never opened the gate and I should look for it. I think you have to talk to Otto THEN go to the door. Other mods allow you to get around such things.

A very good mod. I'll play the follow-up. A few problems : the fights were WAY too hard for my poor pure rogue in my opinion. I could barely dent the final boss...so I went past him and didn't kill him ! But I might play it 'properly' again. Overall very nice.

A Masterpiece.
Even six years after being released this module is still a keeper. I just replayed it twice in a row, once with a rogue combo (easier) and once with a pure rogue (a bit harder).
Visuals and Sounds are a bit outdated compared to the latest modules (nothing compared to Desert Rose for example) otherwise it's still worth it's "8" and HoF status.

One of the first modules I played. Fun module, with a good sense of humour. It's an older module, but I think it's aged well. Also, I liked the video game pun in the title.

Hi,
just start playing this mod and dont know if I have encountered a bug?
I accepted Ophelia's quest to save the thief, but cannot get into the residence with the key she given. I tried to lockpick it but it said it was barred from the other side.

Woop, sorry, I figured it out.
Anyway, I've finished, and I must say, I had a very enjoyable evening playing that. Like a great short story, doable in a single sitting, fun humor, interesting antics. I see no reason not to give this module a 10, if not just to offset the lower scores others have given it. What more could you want, honestly? I'm excited to play the sequel tomorrow night, and I find myself wishing there were more than two.

I'm stuck! *spoilers*
I did the painting quest, got it from the vault, go the "mark" from the little fella. Now how/where do I use it so I can meet Reese?

This was a short, fun little module. The city had a nice, seedy feel to it, and I liked the descriptive names for the various wandering NPCs. Normally I don't like jokey dialog, but it fit the flavor of this not-so-serious module, and generally the dialog was pretty good. Overall, it's good for an evening's entertainment.

Brilliant piece of work. I loved the atmosphere and really got into the story. If I have one complaint, it's that I couldn't get enough of the "Grand Theft" series.
Uhmm..hasn't anyone noticed that Port Maddog or Portmaddog is a real life town on the west coast of Wales in the UK?
Hope you enjoy the mod as I don't play rogues too well unless they are bards.

Really fun little mod. I thought the dialogue was the strong point of this mod, but the rest was pretty solid too. My only complaint is that I felt it should have been a bit longer!

It is very clear to me that at the time I write this, Grand Theft Otto is an old module, but the fact of the matter is it didn't age well. The execution is unpolished overall, and many of the mod's attempts at humor fell flat for me. I'm happy I played it, and I appreciate the effort, but I cannot say it was a great gaming experience. GTO was probably great for it's time, but why play it when there are so many newer, sleeker, better scripted mods out there?

I absolutely loved this mod (it was one of the first I downloaded way back when). Loved Rainman. :) _________________________ [My (Important) Submissions][My Website: Link]
Killing innocents is just stupidity ! A thief is not an assassin, and he kills only if needed and never his contacts, like his buyers. So don't do non-sense act to cry after...

Good intro module for COT2, but the dungeons required too much fighting for a pure rogue without any henchman.
"Though you do specify good rogues in this game, some people like myself, sell our unneeded merchandise from previous mods and kill the shopkeeper to prevent buying stuff back at a higher price."
My ShadowDancer made his way through this good little story. Dialogs are good and mood captivating. A bit hack'n slash perhaps sometimes but I managed my quests without killing a guard (except in garou form but it is not my fault RRRRaahhhhh... :p )
I will play the sequel soon.
