This is a sequel to 'A Halo of Flies.' It is assumed the PC has played through that module or else this one wont make much sense. A month has passed since the tumultuous events that befell you in Silvermist. You have moved on and life has returned to normal, as it always does. Yet you can't help the nagging feeling that something was left unfinished...

Sometimes brilliant, sometimes lame. The module like his predecessor can be quite frustrating or very good depending on certain parameters the player should have known.
My advice for those wanting to fully enjoy this module. If you continue the story from "Halo", before starting this module, load a module with a merchant and identify/sell the things you need. Also, given the resting restrictions, fighters or fighters combo (I played a rogue/barbarian/fighter lvl 7 from start to end) are the most suitable characters for this module.
7: A good module with some issues, but worth the download for almost anyone.

Great story and atmosphere.

Improved over the first part. In both parts the scripting is bug free as far as I noticed, but the nice additional touches in this one are more apparent. Unlike the previous one, there are no obviously pointless areas; everything does something even if not every area is outstanding. Combat is still easy, except of course when you're supposed to run, but that doesn't count, does it? :)
Although I don't get the feeling of creeping dread some other modules have given me, there is still a fairly sinister feel through parts of the module. The descriptive language used is effective, although some of the characters who employ it don't seem like the type to do so. (Certain people I'd expect would be rough spoken.) Not that that is automatically a bad thing. On a technical note, pop up text isn't perfect for this sort of thing, but I guess it's just a tradeoff which had to be made in this case.
Though I normally like, well, robust character interactions, even the one liners are worth reading. Characters do have new things to say as events unfold; clearly a nice chunk of time was spent on this alone. Also thankful is that even though the module is just as linear as A Halo of Flies, you are not lead by the nose by an NPC.
If you'll pardon me for saying so, the good end is a bit deus ex machina. Even though that possible outcome is lampshaded, the bad end is surprisingly somewhat more satisfying. It's certainly not as annoying as a certain part of A Halo of Flies.
Though I haven't played the author's other modules, this pair still seems experimental. His plot crafting skills and scripting ability could well be eventually put to use making a masterpiece, though I'm not sure if he even still comes here.
Shadow from a Soul on Fire in particular is an above average module well worth playing.

Nice mod :)
Excellent story... a bit linear bit I suppose it sort of had to be.

The railroading is not for everyone's taste, but the writing is absolutely brilliant.

Oh, I do have to say that I played a 7th level fighter(3)/cleric(4) and didnt raise a level at all..so xp is a little low as is treasure (I gained no useful items that I could use other than potions. But still a good mod.

Alrighty, I can give this one good marks. Yeah, it was a little linear and the end took me by surprise (I didnt read the description to a certain item) But I enjoyed it.

Excellent sequel! Loved the beginning. I got goose-pumps :). Creepy, mysterious, intriguing. The dialogs were great, even better than its prequel. Each character had something interesting to say. Towards the end I felt the weight of my decision. Granted, the choices were limited but in a game of a celestial chest you can't really know what's forced upon you and what is not.
I have to admit that I was dreading the moment when the Destroyer would show up :). And when I confronted him and his mother, Azag, I was both excited and scared as to what will happen. The whole story scaled nicely till the very end. I agree that the finale wasn't as satisfying as I would have hoped but everything else worked out nicely :)

Like the previous chapter, _A Halo of Flies_, the main strength of this module comes from the intrigue and tension that never lets up. It plays like watching a great movie. If you are looking to flex your character's combat prowess, or even use a lot of skills, this is not the module for you. If you are looking to roleplay, this module isn't for you either. Only at the very end is there even the illusion of choice. Playing this module is like watching a movie: You can guess at what happens next, and probably guess at different options, but the fact remains that you are powerless to change the next scene and act (although, you will probably find yourself so engrossed as to be racing from one event to the next too quickly to reflect on this).
GOOD
.Aside from what has been said, the cutscene that starts this module is absolutely golden. For it alone, this small module is worth the download.
BAD
.An unfortunate module name.
.An implausible resolution to the crisis on the PC, whichever choice is made at the end. I'm sure there is some kind of internal logic to this, probably game-world stats or background or what not that makes it all hold water, but not enough of this comes through to make the ending plausible or satisfying for someone who knows none of it. It is not too in-your-face, so if you don't pause to think too much about it, you probably won't notice.

A great sequel to a great Mod. Yes, it is linear and yes, it may displease those wanting to have more freedom. But for the rest of us the experience is worthwhile... well done!
You people need to look at how old this is before posting comments.
And yes, like the guy below said, it is intended to be linear. That doesnt mean "no roleplaying". Final Fantasy games are called RPGs even though they are totally linear, with no dialog choices.
A wonderful classic.

I'm also going to comment on some of the negatives introduced so far (no spoilers):
"It's too linear": This is a design feature, not a fault. After all, one can't always choose their own fate. Walking around and choosing between good and evil isn't part of this module; the story that is in the module held me in until the end; I couldn't leave my computer!
No XP/Loot: There was plenty of magical items, but not ridiculous amounts of gold from every monster you kill. At every point that you deserve a reward, you get it. Same for XP; doing the module with a higher level character butchers any XP gained, and I did it as a level 6 fighter, and the fights were challenging but not impossible.
Set in a made-up realm: The fact that anyone that plays the module and know that Hell is the bad place and demons are evil helps the immersion in my opinion. Many people who play aren't going to know what the Forgotten Realms name for alternate planes or the underworld is; they would just know they were going to "some place."

Absolutely no roleplaying; absolutely no dialogue option (keep pressing 1); no other option for that matter, linear to a fault; sleep restrictions aren't consistant (can't sleep at the Inn but can sleep outside on one map); no loot; little xp; I can appreciate the effort but not my cup of tea.

I also enjoyed both Halo of Flies and Shadow from a Soul on Fire because the stories are good. Soul on Fire, I thought, was much better than Halo due mainly to the cutscenes at the chessboard and the decision at the end. But I feel that both of these modules were extremely linear which makes them feel less like a game, and more like a passive experience. Of course this is also my problem with Bioware's product. So its not that you've done a bad job, just that the potential of NWN never seems to be reached. Well, keep up the good work. I look forward to reading more of your NWN novellas. _________________________ Vault Submissions | Arnheim | Beyond Vives

Stuck (modules design issue)
I have been playing "Surviving Horror", "Doomchild" 1 and 2, "Crypt of Terror", "Valgard Keep" and "A halo o flies" with the same character.
I am having here a bit of the same problem I had while trying to play "The Castle of Wind..." (or even the OC chapter 2). Guess what? I never had the chance to get/find a bag of holding. My character does not have that many items but he has been moving in slow motion (max weight 116 pounds but currently have 180 pounds or so) for the last five or six modules!
Now in this module like in "The wind..." module you may have to run and if you cannot you die.
There is a momne tin this mod where I did guess what I had to do (grab that thing and use it) but it was impossible to do in my case. You must use the pause button, locate the item you need to escape, take it quick and use it before getting killed.
I am now at one point in the mod where the same creature is after me. He may be slow but I am even slower. At this point it looks like it is game over.
Also the plot is becoming a bit tough for a paladin in terms of RP.

This is much better than "A Halo of Flies," and that was a good one!
It's well-written, with minimal errors that don't detract from the experience. Encounters were challenging enough, especially since I played with a bard that wasn't designed for melee combat at all.
The ending was particularly nice. Thanks for making this!

Never posted before. Just got back into playing NWN. Really enjoyed both your modules Halo of Flies and Shadow from a Soul on Fire. Normally a Hack and Slash guy, but story was excellent and a real sense of fear was conveyed. You had me guessing at many spots and wondering who to trust. Going to try your other modules. Keep up the good work.
