Description
Description: You have come to Eshpurta to answer the call of Barsus Bryne, captain of the western army of Amn. The commander of an important military stronghold has vanished with all his men and Amn needs answers. Your task is to find Lieutenant Tallanvor and his men. Rescue them if possible but above all determine if a new threat to Amn has materialized. Quests: The main quest is the search for Tallanvor but there are numerous side quests and over 40 areas to explore. Remember, not every foe is easily defeated and some can be dealt with non-violently. Of course, if you wish to kill them, good for you! Setting: The Forgotten Realms. Nation of Amn. All locations and some of the NPC's were taken right out of the 'Forgotton Realms Campaign Setting' Book by Greenwood, Reynolds, Williams, and Heinsoo. Excellent source book! Watch out for a cameo by an NPC from 'Shadows of Amn' by Bioware! This was designed for single player but there should be no multiplayer problems.

Loved this a long time ago... the goblin innkeeper was hilarious! _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them.

Found the module unplayable with a monk lvl 10+. Stuff like multiple half-orc bandits (BAB 10) or stag beetle (3 at a time) impossible to defeat alone.

Nice module although it's outdated. I wanted to know what really happened to Tallanvor though I got to say that I didn't find the reason behind all of these convincing enough but still I had a good time. Narrating the story to the bard was a great idea. Wish I could have taken her along. I also liked confronting the Overlord. I took the gift, often greed exceeds wisdom, and was anticipating for the moment he would show up and claim what was his but that never happened. Maybe for the best :). Some areas seemed long and empty. I played it with a level 7 fighter. Reached level 10 at the end. Most fights were on the easy side. In fact, the only encounter I remember giving me a little more of a hard time, was the Sythillisian agent but overall I enjoyed the module.

Considering its age, this module was surprisingly good. The difficulty level was about right for my 9th level Cleric/Ranger, it wasn't overly hard but I died once or twice when I rushed into battles. The dialogue was for the most part quite good, although there were frequent typos. I found the story very interesting, it makes a great companion mod to Alazander's 'Crimson Tides of Tethyr', since both refer to the Sythillisian war.

This is a neat little module that starts off being a fairly straightforward "fight the bad guys" type game, but at the end turns out to be one of those fairly rare (but not unwelcome in my opinion!) mods that have a little "moral" of sorts that is nicely incorporated into the story. I do not wish to elaborate about it here because it would spoil the surprise. It's true that the ending could be seen as anti-climatic, but honestly I thought it was fitting.
This module does show it's age, although not too badly. There are no henchmen for hire, and therefore prospective players would be wise to bring in a tougher (most likely a warrior) character, and if they have the ability to summon "pets", they should choose one that can hold it's own in a fight. To be honest, I played a DEX-oriented ranger and mostly did pretty well with a wolf companion, although some fights were still difficult because there are many instances where normally managable enemies are coming at you in a huge group...and it's up to you can whatever you can summon to fight them all off. I enjoyed the character Jani and would have enjoyed having her along as a henchman. Lastly, this module is not *really* a "city adventure" as I understand it--it just starts off in a city. Most adventuring takes place in the wilderness. Overall, I liked Tallanvor's Pride and the moral of the story gae me something to think about at the end.

Good to hear that you're still planning to build for NWN2, Guard Dog. The projects that you listed in the NWN2 forums some time ago seemed all very interesting. And there'll be demand for mid-to-high level modules, for sure...
Also, as the modules will be set in FR, you might want to check out the link in my sig. :)
Yea! 10,000 downloads at last. It only took 4 years, heh! For those who have asked, I have done other work, on the Red Tower PW for a time and I've statred building several modules that never get finished. But, when we get NWN2 I'll get back into it. Thanks to all who played and voted on Tallanvor's Pride.

I guess I never remembered to vote... I don't remember much of the details anymore. I do remember that I enjoyed the module a lot. I thought that the story was good, as well as the writing and the dialogue (putting aside the possibility of some typos).
I remember having had some qualms about the area design (I recall that there were pretty big areas that were relatively empty and had long quite direct paths to run) as well as about the slightly too quick pace of leveling up.
All in all, this is a very entertaining if a bit aged module. I'd be enthused to check out any new FR modules from the author.
Very creative! Had a lot of fun playing it! Thanks D! :-)

A bit linear and definitively shows its age compared to the newest modules: no henchman, shops opened 24hrs/day, limited dialog options, no alignment shifts. My druid/fighter/shifter started at lvl9 and is 2K pts short of lvl12 at the end of the module.
The story was interesting and well-presented, with many references to the BG series, although the number of typos was distracting! I wish a follow-up module existed to discover more about Jani the bard and the potential interaction with the Overlord of the Grey slaads.
BTW, when fighting the blue slaad, there's a risk that the spectre guarding the door a few steps away will join the battle, in which case the PC won't be able to get to the next level.

I'm playing this old module with a Druid7/Fighter2/Shifter1, under version 1.67, and didn't encounter any bug so far. Many, many typos though...

I found this module very good for a vintage one. Had no problem except a couple of lamps floating in the sky and a nasty summoned water elemental I could not defeat thanks to new drowning rules.
The story is original I wish I could continue South with the Bard ;-)

Fun mod, great story, and well planned! Only thing I didn't like was some of the groupings of monsters, ie worgs near lions etc...wouldn't they eat other before the PC got near them?

Pretty good module, lots of options. Some of the dialogue was over-dramatic.

Good mod, sidequests tied neatly into the story and setting and few, if any, bugs. The end was a bit ... different, an anti-climax rarely seen in games.

Good mod, a bit too linear, particularly in the latter parts. Very fun overall, though.

A nice and tidy little module with a pretty good backstory. It could, however, benefit from a bit of elaboration. For example, the "this door is barred from the other side" message gets a bit tiresome. The end seems a bit abrupt. But good, solid work over all.

That is funny Frankie! When I was putting this module together I had set up transition triggers to test most of the important game areas right in the center of Eshpurta in front of the temple. I was testing the Balagos conversation to make sure the right sequence would make him hostile. When he became hostile I ran through the transition back to the city. Well... he followed me! That was fun to watch because he made a mess out of the city.

Just wanted to mention a hilarious moment I had in this module. There's a building in the city that contains a pair of large monsters (name starts with M). I went there at too low a level and had to run away. One of the M's was right behind me, and it managed to follow me through the door and rampage the city streets!
I ran off to one side and pulled out my bow. It squashed a little boy, killed a city guard, and was beating on a merchant before I put enough arrows into it.
After resting I tried to do the same with its twin but I couldn't get the timing right, had to kill it the hard way.
BTW, nice module. Some of the dialogue towards the end was too melodramatic for my taste, but overall worth playing.

Great overall story, but it's a bit linear and the combat isn't as compelling or strategic as it could be. Excellent mod overall.

Hi Zamboni and Pmiller, I appreciate your comments. Not much progress lately. I've been tied up with a big project at work and then my wife bought me Knights of the Old Republic and it had me hooked. I did not think I'd like it but it is fantastic. I trashed one of my henchmen in my new project and created a new one based in large part on Jolee Bindo. Anyway, I'm making a big push to finish before Feb When KOTR 2 comes out I'll be useless for at least a month.

Hi D. Jordan,
just wanted to cheer you on with that set of modules you're working on. I really enjoyed the overall plot structure of this mod (maybe a little linear and hack'n'slashy in its particulars, but a very engaging hook to encourage players to complete the story-- reminded me a bit of Moby Dick). Anyhow, I'm really looking forward to your next project!

Enjoyed the module. Did not encounter any major problems or bugs. However in the caves to go down the mine shaft with the ropes, the transition did not want to work easily. Took me a few minutes and a reload of a quicksave to finally get it to take, but it did work in the end. I have both expansions and patched to 1.64. There was no problem with the end transition back to the city.
*** SPOILERS ***
I played it solo with a 8th level Ftr(4)/Brd(1)/RDD(3) and gained 2 levels of RDD and am just 500 XP shy of 11th level now. Overall I thought the module was too easy on the combat side. The only battles I had any trouble with were the Drow mage in the sewers and the two Minogon in Andros's house the first time facing them. For the Drow I was thinking I would just quickly kill the spiders first then whack the mage. Once the mage got going, it wasn't that easy. I was busy trying to beat through the damage resistance of the Stoneskin Spell and the summoned Greater Water Elemental she brought into the fight ended up combining to eventually bring me down before I could finish taking her out, close run. Second time, just ran past the spiders and knocked her down, it was smooth sailing after that. The Minogon got me dazed and I never recovered before they wittled me down to nothing. Second time I bought a potion of Clarity then it wasn't much of a problem.
In the later half of the module, with the Mithral Splint Mail, +3 Ring of Protection, and a +3 Natural AC Amulet I was sitting at an AC of 30 wielding a +1 greatsword. I hardly took any damage after that. Most bad guys couldn't touch me outside of a 20 on the die roll.
Loot was pretty good, but out of proportion to the strength of the bad guys. Quest XP could have been reduced as well, because I really did not need the boost, as the end did not have a final boss to really take down.
This is a good module for anyone wishing to take an existing character and play a short/medium length module before moving on. If they have decent items and a strong melee character build, I would recommend starting at either 6/7th level for the right challenge, however with the XP progression they will still probably not be challenged at the end unless they want to try their luck against the Dragon. However that sounds like suicide to any characters short of level 13-15.
Happy adventuring and I look forward to the final version of your next project.

Enjoyed playing this module. Definitely worthwhile.

Okay, I thing because the transition out was conditional based on a local variable set in conversation. If you had spoken to Balagos, you tranited to the city, if not back to the canyon. Neither works but the conversation still works fine so the game can be finished. After the meeting with Balagos the game simply sends you back to Eshpurta and you have the final conversation with Bryne. I believe this kind of conditional script was broken by SOU. Anyway, fixing it is a low priority because, to put it plainly this mod is old. Old and to bring it up to a level commesurate with my ability today would require a complete rewrite. That would take too much time for something no one is going to download again anyway. I am still working on my current project and have been for almost 2 years. It is a 3 module campaign in the scope of SOU. I am writing all 3 mods at once and will put them up as one download. I am proud of it and my playtesters have loved it so far.
