Hmm... Let's see... Paladin... Not many options here.
Description
Twilight is the beginning of my Paladin Trilogy. It starts modestly enough with your character preparing to take on the Paladin Initiation. While this is a humble beginning, I am confident that you will find the path to its conclusion a long and winding adventure. IMPORTANT: Please read the Readme before playing. There is useful information (including solutions to common problems) on Twilight in it.

@Manos - not that it's likely he'll be back here.
I believe you've hit a bug, what you describe shouldn't have happened. Pirotase doesn't just randomly de-level herself like that at any point in this module. what overrides do you use? I've never seen this happen in this module. the horde of zombies, don't bother trying to fight them, there are too many and you'll very likely die along side your squire...like a good paladin :P On your point of not finding a vendor, it's because the street vendors don't sell anything, they are just annoying space fillers. there is a building(I believe it even has it's own pin on your map) near the east(the one leaving town) gate that has a bunch of merchants that DO sell you things, including essential supplies...not that you often have the money to buy much. I usually spawn an astral blade or some other high value item, and sell it, so I can stock up. Pirotase tends to use way more potions then you ever will(she's a fragile little thing, but a damn fine archer), so early on stock her up heavy on them.
As for those who have given this mod a low vote, you should keep in mind that this was intended as a CONTEST ENTRY to showcase the author's skills originally. I think people forget that ;) then Bioware hired him shortly after the completion of Midnight, and the series was left unfinished due to being kept busy(which still makes me and many fans of the series rather sad).
I agree with the majority though, regarding the bow restriction, but when you learn about the various other paladin orders it sorta makes sense. I still don't like being forced to use close-combat unnecessarily, but *shrugs* not our call. and there is nothing remotely hard about the time trials, ive walked through them in detect mode a few times, with plenty of time to get through the door. it's the trial of light that irritates me. _________________________ jml's list of community addons/overrides, etc. Link

I am not a fan of Rick Burton's work. He is certainly talented but DnD is one thing and Diablo another. They are a number of things I do not like in Twilight/Midnight but the part about restricting the use of range weapons he got that 100% right.
My previous vote was 3.5 given how unplayable I previously found the module. I have just replayed chapter I and II with a fresh character and I found this one a lot more playable and even vaguely enjoyable with the following:
- the walkthrough nearby (you need all goodies to survive)
- the paladin mount (not working in Midnight)
- the removal of the somehow ridiculous resting restriction (not possible in Midnight)
5-6: A good effort that fans of the style will find worth the download.

The puzzles are good. The scripting for the cutscenes excellent. The story great. Some of the actions made no sense what so ever. Using Turn Undead on something other than Undead??? Seriously? Since this is and old module, I won't rate it.
I was okay until I was checking the walk-through for one of the puzzles and came across actions that made no sense to me. The penalty for using a missile weapon was way out of line.
For starters, this is definitely a module for paladins ONLY. Forget about multiclassing, if you arent able to turn undead by 3rd level, youll miss at least one quest. I found this to be restrictive.
Unlike some of the other posters, I found the timed quests at the beginning to be both fun and exhilarating, and certainly not impossible to complete, given the instructions for the initiation were both clear and complete.
Overall, I was impressed by the quality and creativity of this module as far as I got. First sour note, the combats become difficult very quickly, and there are relatively few possibilities in-game to remedy this. Second sour note came as a result of the combination of the builders policies and a script bug which was a surprise, given that the rest of the scripting was not only bug-free but quite creatively done.
Unfortunately, the builder sees the use of a ranged weapon as a chaotic act (try convincing the organized ranks and files of archer soldiers in feudal times of that...), so when I picked up a bow and started shooting at my opponents rather than running in to get slaughtered, I found my alignment penalized. Even more unfortunately, due to a bug in the alignment modification script, *any* deviation in alignment will result in the PC being summarily sent to an OOC zone where the player is informed that the only recourse from that point on is to reload a previously-saved version of the game a policy I didnt agree with at all. This made for a quick end to what had at first appeared to be a promising and enjoyable module.
In sum, a module by an obviously creative builder whose nonetheless rigid judgment calls may dampen your enthusiasm.

horribly frustrating at times, visuals aren't great, but that's to be expected of such an old module
screw this. I've spent far too long on the light room puzzle. I'm usually pretty good at this type of puzzle, but this one has me beat. Since I can't get out without solving it, so much for this module.

Played it again - Very good, but spoiled by too many fights & the module just stops & doesn't progress to the next one.

May not be worth it.
Pros:
+ outstanding scripting, cutscenes and visual effect.
+ Pirotase
Cons:
- often frustrating (combats)
- not very paladin like (more like a shady knight)
- the author has as a rather biased view of a paladin forcing the player to play a rather one dimensional character without flexibility in terms of style, stats, skills, feats...
- story (3rd chapter) not complete
3-4: It is clear the author tried to make something interesting, but still fell short. With more work it might be worth the download.

I'm ok with challenging modules. However, I don't care when they start skirting the edge of ridiculous. If the mod wants me to go face a whole horde of undead, that's fine, but at least give me the tools to do it with! Within fifteen minutes of going into the eternal graveyard, Pirotase was dropped to 1st level and about a 7 STR ...effectively making her nigh useless. I thought ok, I need potions or scrolls of restoration. Upon returning to an earlier save point, I discovered that none were sold or offered in the entire town (unless I completely missed a vendor). A 1/day restoration rod as a previous reward would have been something, but no! I guess this is meant to be challenging, but it's not ...it is just frustrating which only forces the player to quick save after every little fight. Otherwise, this is an engaging and well written mod. _________________________ Well, she turned me into a newt....

Adding some to what I just wrote about this h... of a d... Light Room puzzle, which I finally went through with half of the walkthrough and half Debug jumping... I quite enjoyed that classical but very well done module, more than enough to be willing to play Midnight, the following one.
Lots of interesting inventions in it, very custom, even if I hate having to play a paladin, especially that goody one. But the henchwoman just by herself greatly makes up for everything.
Yin and yang I suppose.
One of the greatest NWN module around...
beside the puzzles, which I hate even more than paladins, not enough though to not enjoying that fine game.

Excellent module with good puzzles and quests spoiled by too much hack & slash.

Anyone a console command for the Light Room? A nice puzzle for graduating at school maybe, or getting a job, not for a game.
The first time I ever had to quite a module.
I hate puzzles anyway. BUt what I hate even more is not having a decent walkthrough, no workaround, no way to get any help from the author.
It's a take it or leave situation.
Okay, okay, I'm leaving then. Against my will.
Too bad a couple of interesting things in it. Nice henchwoman quest...
And as much as the Dark Room is probably my favourite puzzle, I even kept a savegame to be able to replay it, the Light Room one killed everything.
Sorry.
I won't vote as I don't want to be unfair. On my side.

Good module.
Quick Pros: Great cutscenes. One of the best modules for companion/henchmen. Great pacing and story telling (although the actual plot rather ordinary)
Quick Cons: Repetitive and unchallenging combat, puzzles can be more fun and relevant to the class. No choices/actual RPing possibility, even with the LG paladin factor taken into consideration.
Compared to some of the other incredible modules that have been released since this classic, Twilight feel dull. For its time, however, this module's scripting and visuals were absolutely top notch. My biggest complaint about this module is the lack of choice and consequence, the unavoidable railroading towards a predictable ending, and the absence of morally ambigious situations (most scenarios are pretty black and white - meaning when in doubt, select option 1).
Nevertheless, I had fun playing this module and will recommend it to anyone who enjoys H&S and a well told but simple paladin story.

Hmm something is wrong, people may not like this module but this mod doesnt deserve 1. And puzzles are very common and old puzzles, given to 7 ,8 year old kids. This is one of my fav mods. _________________________ Neverwinter Balance Patch Balance Patch

Utterly dismal module. The worst I've ever played. Buggy, poor scripting. The roleplaying is poor, the obsession with puzzles extreme.
Unfortunate, because I thought the idea of Pirotase had true promise.

Very bad start, instead of trying to immerse player into story and character, the module began with a paladin trial that is basically a random puzzle (search-keys-match-doors, you know the drills) and H&S fest, and as if it isn't bad enough, you have to finish it within a limited time period or start over (no penalty fortunately). BTW the author made it so that saving during the trial will break it so you cannot save either. Just after you think you are done with the trial, there comes the second trial - which is similar to the first trial except being harder, even more H&S, though fortunately less random.
* Minor Spoiler *
Now after the second trial, our paladin should be on some real quests right? Well sort of, the third trial is to find a suitable squire for your adventures onward, which sounded cool at first, until you search all over the city and found no squire material. The first trigger for this squire quest, you guess it - play hide-and-seek with some kids near the fountain... logical eh? Well you may think those kids have some connection to the squire but no... they are mere fillers, only after playing with them which involves running around the city's corners, a man will approach you for help in a burglary matter. That's in that man's house where you will meet your squire... or squiress, a female drow thief who supposedly you are to deal with. But as the event turns out, it's no longer a simple burglary, that man is a necromancer and a servant of a greater evil. In this case our paladin instinctively perceive that this drow hottie has the potential of greatness and glory. So he accompany her to deal with this necromancer... which just means another 3 levels H&S fest.
* Spoiler End *
This module has some really bad gameplay design decision right off the bat, and it persists for the almost 2 hours gameplay I had been through. I stopped playing thereafter because it was obvious that there will be more and more non-sensical designs like mentioned above. I do not know if the "heavy role play" is justified later in the module, but from the 2 hours I've played there were very little RP, and much H&S. It could have been a decent H&S if you were not limited to one class, and were allowed more customization to your character equipments. But as it stands, your character bagan with little gold to buy anything except some healing potions. And frankly, how much H&S fun is possible with a level 1 paladin? This module is sorely overrated and I'd recommend it only if you are a fan of paladin RP.

Overall the story is good. But gameplay is very restrictive and often time the experience is more like chores than enjoyment. I have no problem with the puzzles. They are very interesting additions to the game. But here are my pet peeves which prevented me to give it a higher score:
1. The DM interrupts the story so frequently that it is almost intrusive.
2. Little variation of gameplay. Money is so scarce that I can hardly buy any items from shops. Not that there are many items to be chosen anyway.
3. One enjoyment of playing role playing game is simply to equip your player with various items & weapons. This game offers no such enjoyment. The weapons are set. The items are set. Your henchman & the player have only one set of items which means there is only one kind of paladin you can play. This makes the game kind of boring in this regard.
4. The game reminds me a lot of Diablo's play style, except that much less variety of monster types. Just like Diablo your player will heal up to full health once it is level up.
5. Many time limited quest which requires you to rush and rush.
6. Before entering the santuary, the DM popped up once again to Autosave the game and then told me: "You will need it". I can't keep myself exclaim it: "What? Such a loser design!"
Not that there are any good points, e.g., the dungeons are relatively small. Otherwise the game would be quite a boring exercise.
Let me see if Midnight got any improvement.

Nice scripts and story, but your puzzle obsession simply ruins it. An horrible frustrating experience
Perhaps the worst module that I've ever played, taking that mantle over from Adam Miller's 'Demon', and for the same reason. This isn't Roleplaying, this is being an actor for a control-freak director with a puzzles obsession. The storyline, and the character of Pirotase, could have made it worth putting up with the tight scripting and the lack of opportunities to play a character. Unfortunately the pointless and annoying puzzles made the game into a deeply unpleasant playing experience. _________________________ "You do well to flee, townspeople. I will pillage your lands and dwellings. I will burn your crops, and make merry sport with your more attractive daughters!" (Olaf the Troll, in 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer')
Just to confirm the problem - every time I reset, the central brazier does not re-light. That also, if my pen and paper work tells me right, makes it impossible - no?
Really enjoying this so far, but stuck in the Trial of Light. I came up with my own solution, used the walkthrough's solution, but none of them work - even once when the map suggested I had everything lit (using my own solution - the walkthrough always leaves the bottom left corner unlit?), but the door just wouldn't open!
I presume when I reset the first time something got mixed up - is there a console command I can use to just get through this thing? Both of my saves are in the light room.

Thanks, Rick! Really great module, I loved it much. However I didn't use to like the paladin class, this very modul changed my opinion. Well, the mod was amusing and exciting, full of good ideas.
Here I can tell, Midnight also really good - although that low gold problem made it little more difficult to survive. (My potion supply were always running low.)
So I'm very disappointed to hear that maybe Dawn will never comes out... _________________________ "Oh, bless me, angel!" asks me a guy.
